Don't get me wrong although i like Safeway and this branch of Safeway is very clean, organized and has friendly staff but the prices in this store are well towards the north side. I mean seriously, $7 for a gallon of milk when you get a gallon of milk for about $3.50 from nearby well known grocery outlet chain. Its not just the milk, almost everything is almost double priced than competitor stores. Feels like, Being in a prime location gives them the liberty to charge whatever they can manage. The variety of Organic produce and groceries is very good and the produce is always fresh, been shopping here for months. This is the only reason i give 3 stars. An indoor ATM, Starbucks, gas station and a restaurant is very convenient for the overall one stop shopping experience. Although these are not any selling point for me. read more

Better than the one across town! Has more food or items than the one across town as well! I love their breakfast burritos

I wrote couple of years back, about Gwendolyn, the sandwich maker at the deli in this store. I want let you all know she still works there and she still prepares for you, wonderful sandwiches with such care that she makes you feel you are a family member of hers. Way to go Gwendolyn. read more

The deli sandwich/breakfast burrito making staff is incredibly slow. I have made 3 attempts and each time they move at a snail's pace regardless of the line piling up. The sausage in the breakfast burrito and French fries for potatoes(?) the half melted block of cheese and then the microwave are pretty gross. The tuna comes out of a pre-made peel the plastic container. Not mixed fresh. I'm done going here. I'll head to Bagel Street cafe in the same parking lot. Much friendlier, very fast(!!), fresh ingredients and a wee bit cheaper. Bye Safeway! read more

Ever since Albertson's bought Safeway, their customer service is non-existence. Just past Sunday wasn't an exception. I went to shop in preparation of the 4th and a lot of dairy stuffs were out. I needed a heavy whipping cream. I backed up to see if there was any. I saw one way in the back. If someone from the back could push it down, I could reach. I saw a lady walking out from the back. I asked her. When she opened the door to the back, there was a young clerk with rolled plastic bags in his arms was about to walk out. She asked him to push it down and he said, "I AM TOO BUSY. I AM THE ONLY ONE BACK HERE." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Just then, another lady came. She ordered him. I was standing in front of the dairy fridge with the fridge door open and I saw the clerk jumping up and down as if he was on the trampoline. He said he couldn't reach. I asked him to use a carton of half and half to push it down. He finally understood it after I repeated 5 times. Unbelievable. Worst customer service ever. read more

This is a nice Safeway: the store is well-stocked. But I give this Safeway a 1 star because of the safety hazard in its parking lot. I stepped through the area where the trees and shrubs are planted to get to my car. Because the shrubs are over grown, I did not see that the area I was stepping into was not level with the cement wall, but was in fact at least 9 inches down. None of this shrub planter area has been properly filled in with packed dirt. So I stepped into this hole, and lost my balance on the uneven ground. I hit the cement wall with my back. When I spoke to Safeway, I was told that they were aware of the safety hazards, and in fact the property owner also knew about complaints that customer's cars were getting their tires damaged in these islands (there are gaps in the cement walls). I remarked that this was a far more serious problem than just tires getting damaged. I had severely bruised ribs. Nothing broken, luckily for me, but as I pointed out to Safeway, it could just as easily been a senior customer, child or pregnant woman taking a fall. I realize that Safeway does not own the land, and therefore is not directly responsible. But the attitude of Not Our Concern is troubling. I was told by Safeway in all seriousness that the property owners MIGHT be more impressed if a complaint came from me, and not from Safeway. (Really?) Safeway took my email address and said they would send the property owner's contact information. I was so impressed with Safeway's take charge attitude. That was in late June, and nothing has come from Safeway, not even a note of concern. Wouldn't take much to get those areas filled in properly, but I understand: it's not their responsibility. Think about that when you shop here. I certainly don't come here anymore. I like to think that the store I shop at values me more than just taking my money. read more

Awesome customer service at the meat department. The staff there gave me recommendations how to pick and cook good steaks!

This Safeway location continues to excel. Today I unwisely went in to purchase a bottle of wine. I knew the variety, maker, location the grapes were grown, and even the Winespectator rating. Aside from organization by variety, I found a complete absence of any rational thinking for the department's organization. I met a nice man wearing a shirt and tie who informed me that he was Safeway's wine person and "he lives in the wine department". When asked about where I could find a particular brand of wine he informed me that "there is no organization in the wine department and wines are place on the shelves randomly". At Bevmo or Lucky's it takes me less than 30 seconds for me to find my selection. At Safeway, if I am lucky and they actually have my choice in stock, it can take me a half hour. I now do all my alcohol shopping at Lucky's (because they have a brain). read more

I live near this store so I shop there often. I am amazed the store is as bad as it is given its close proximity to Safeway's Corporate Headquarters. I was happy when the store first opened but its problems are myriad and never seem to get fixed. Specifically: 1) The parking is inadequate and drive through the lot at your own risk. Horrible design. It will only get worse as the city recently approved building of apartments and more homes in the adjacent open lot. The same is true of the gas station, horrible design. 2) Many departments do an extremely poor job of "distressing" expired goods. The cheese/dairy section, the meat department, the lunch meat section, the bread section, etc. The worst I have ever seen. If you shop there, make sure you check the dates before you buy anything perishable (even the canned goods.) 3) There are almost never enough cashiers to handle the customers. Wait times are often long. 4) There are almost never any baggers. I end up bagging my own groceries 90% of the time. Once a cashier stood there and watched me bag without even attempting to help me. Amazing! 5) Out of stock is common. 6) If you have to go to the customer service desk, expect to stand there at least 5 minutes before you are even acknowledged, let alone helped. 7) Prices are often not clearly marked. No excuse for that. The general manager of this store is not doing a good job at all. The above problems are obvious and easily remedied if anyone cared. Pretty obvious that they don't. The other Safeway's in the area seem to be much better managed. This store has a lot of problems and they never seem to get fixed. read more

This is for management of Safeway. I have called and left messages with no return call. We used the Safeway GAS STATION at BERNAL on 11/4/15. Our Debit Card was comprised after the gasoline purchase. I finally was able to get someone on the phone today (assistant Manager) who told me the attendant just watches traffic but she is sure it was not one of their pumps this occurred with. We had not used the card in months and never used online. There was over $1,600 charges the next day. Bank notified, card closed but what a huge inconvenience and lack of response from Safeway. read more

Sorry folks, but I cannot agree with some of the positive reviews. I have been shopping at this Safeway ever since we moved to Pleasanton 1 year ago. This store RARELY has enough checkers to accomodate the number of shoppers. Today I was shocked to find 11 people in line ahead of me and only 1 checker. 10 minutes later another stand opened up with no bagger. This happens just about every time I visit the store- no matter what day or time I shop. The management needs to take a close look at their staffing practices. read more

big big store, lots of stocked aisles, and a big ol parking lot to boot. took us a while to find a couple things (no one on NYE there to guide us through the store sadly.) i'd happily shop here again. looks like they're adding a gas station too, woo! OH! and their bulk food aisle was pretty solid, i'm just happy to have another store nearby that offers organic sugar by the pound! read more

An update some months later: This Safeway is improving in its customer service and a broadening of it's inventory. They had start up pains like all new businesses but seem to be headed in a better direction. I've started splitting my shopping between this Safeway and the local Raleys. read more

Supposedly this Safeway is the flagship store for the whole corporation, but in my opinion it does not make a cut. There are expired products on the shelves specifically yogurt in dairy dept. I spoke to the store manager but nothing has changed. One time I bought soy yogurt that expired 7 days ago. Luckily it tasted very funky so I did not eat it. I got another apology and another refund but I do not trust that store anymore and have to check the expiration day on almost everything I buy. That takes time and makes my shopping longer than it should. Very irritating. read more

Horrible experiences recently, especially at lunch time. I work nearby and Safeway is convenient but now it is just becoming ridiculous. Who runs the Deli/Sandwich area? Why does a sandwich take 15min on average!? That is if someone is even there in the first place..seems like the only manned area is the asian food, but you have to really work to get their attention. On multiple occasions I have spent over 25 minutes waiting to get me pre prepped food. I often just resort to Jack in the Box or another place in the plaza after waiting. Sorry but I am done with Safeway for lunch. read more

First time to be at this Safeway. This store looks very new. Nice and clean. It carries almost all the grocery items. The nice thing about this store is it has its Safeway brand gas stations. Gas price is a little cheaper than other gas station on the street. read more

I came in with a pasta sauce I had just bought that had a popped top asking for a replacement. The girl working the customer service window refunded me and asked if I would like her to look in the back for more. I waited for 45 minutes for her to come back out until I finally asked the butcher to look for her, only to tell me she wasn't in the back. Without coming out to tell me anything, she left to go back to the front of the store through a different exit as to avoid me. I got a different pasta sauce and checked out, only to find her sitting at the customer service window as if I had never asked for her help. I asked her what happened and she said "she couldn't find it" ... no apology or anything. Her name was Makayla or something similar, short girl with brown hair. Awful customer service is an understatement..... read more

Seriously, get your ish together!! I work across the street and find myself here often for a quick lunch when I forget to pack on. Not a SINGLE worker in the deli smiles, and they have ignored me on NUMEROUS occasions to hold personal conversations. Today takes the cake though. Due to the lack of customer service at the deli I started trying their hot lunch options. The Chinese food is pretty decent and cheaper than panda Express. I waited for about 10 minutes behind 4 people who already weren't being served. Finally I asked the girl by the deli meat if she could help. She did. right before my turn was up an older Asian man approached the counter and asked if he could help the next in line. I stepped to the food display and told him what I wanted. I had to repeat myself 4 times before finally one of the sushi chefs told him in another language. He couldn't work the machine that prints the stickers for your items and I had 3 people who were behind me in line get helped by the first girl and were already gone. it took a solid 7 minutes for my small chow mein and sticky bun. I got back to my desk and the chow mein was great, I took a bit into my sticky bun and there was a dark black hair baked into the dough. I will NEVER go back to this Safeway again. No customer service, no comprehension of English, and worst of all no health and sanitary standards. I have never been so disgusted in my life. Shut this store down already, or get a new staff! read more

Well, I'm a Safeway shopper and have been going to Dublin and the Santa Rita location for years now. I was sooo happy when this one opened closer to my home. I am still a fan of Safeway for their selection, quality, and prices, but I have to deduct stars for the following reasons: First, hire some baggers!! We do not want to bag our own groceries, especially large cartfulls!! This is a problem at all of the Safeways from what I can tell. Very annoying. Raley's wins hands down for bagging. Second, the poor lady at the deli who has helped me several times is just overwhelmed. Very sweet Asian lady but evidently no one else works when she does! There are always several people waiting for deli meats/cheeses. She always has to apologize and then thank everyone for waiting. We HAVE to wait if we want our deli meat! Last but not least, there are no where near enough spots to put your cart after it's unloaded in the parking lot. I have taken to leaving it in the nearest open parking space, just hoping if enough people do that they will create two or three more areas to park them. Still, I will continue to shop there and hope that it gets better with time. If not, I'm off to Raley's! read more
