I was bummed when I moved to Pacifica that there isn't a Tjs or Whole Foods. I was pleasantly surprised to check out the Linda Mar Safeway... they have a great selection of products, especially tons of options in the loose dry beans and legumes sections. And -- an exceptional wine selection. Plus, they have a Starbucks. And a full service Wells Fargo. Plus, the checkers are super friendly. And best of all, it's yards from the beach! read more

it's nice that there is a grocery store in the area, but it would have been nice if it wasn't a 'chain' grocery store... the setting just doesn't fit with this strip mall in general... but i guess it's just a reminder that you're still in the united states... read more

i places an order for cupcakes for an upcoming bridal shower. a dozen costs $7.49. i needed 30 cupcakes so that came to $19.67. not bad. i specifically asked for chocolate cupcakes and "light" pink frosting. she said it will be light pink and that they are airbrushed. when i picked up the order, it was HOT pink. i kinda got scared but i couldn't really do anything since i never really seen them before. anyways, i wasn't happy but when i saw pictures from the shower..they looked pretty good. the theme of the shower was pink/green but the hot pink stood out and looked really nice. so i was happy! i heard the cupcakes were good, but the frosting (buttercream) was a little heavy but that's up to each individual. i give them a yummy yummy! read more

This is a big name store in a small town, and its like a small town store and I am so thankful. Safeway Corporate has been my client and they're rough. I grew up with one as my neighborhood store too (Midtown Palo Alto) so I am not without more than one experience. Visitng stores beweetn the coast and Sac regularly their people often act the way I would expect them to working for a business like Safeway with what I know about them. It aint easy. And then - there's Linda Mar. If you're bopping at the beach or just passing thru on Highway 1 you might miss the true charm of what has been built here. Its a neighborood store FIRST but they will make sure you get what you need patronzing our beautiful beaches and skatepark and cool stuff. It is "The Coast" after all, and in that spirit, anyone who lives here knows they are a "steward" at some level to sharing this goodness while getting to live here inbetween a visit from anyone coming down from SF or "over the hill". So Safeway - take notice - I love this store - its bakery, its deli, its florist, its starbucks, its Customer Service counter - Its a small town and this store is tweaked for the perfect fit within a grocery behemoth with a penchant for pushing down hard on their employees (and vendors!). Linda Mar is not perfect, but it rocks and its getting better and better in its healthy-choice food selections. And look out - here comes "Fresh and Easy" accross the highway opening in March - but here in Pacifica things come and go and some thngs do not - like the Linda Mar Safeway and the people who work there and make it PACIFICA. Thank you! 14 years raising a fam here and spending almost as much time there in your store as in front of this puter - thank you!! read more

I've never reviewed a grocery store before, but I went in with a question and had the best treatment by the friendliest man behind customer service. It's so rare to have such an above & beyond pleasant experience - had to post it. Plus GREAT organics, more choices than one needs. I love my Safeway!! read more

although a chain-grocer, this safeway retains that small town feel. the friendly and helpful staff really make the difference between my choosing safeway over the small market two doors down. read more

I'm a local and very fond of this Safeway. It gets crazy busy here, not a lot of places to shop in Pacifica and its across the street from the beach, and the first stop after Devil's Slide for those coming back from Half Moon Bay, so you get a lot of weekend travelers in addition to those of us who are trying to just buy food for the week. The Wells Fargo inside is amazing, I would rather go there than to a regular branch, the Starbucks is almost always good with the drinks and I have to stop myself from buying their bakery cakes on each visit - they are so good. The only downside I usually experience is the milk case never smells fresh, always suspect stale spills, and there could be a bit more of a vegetarian selection for certain items, but it is Safeway, and not an organic type market, so I really don't think I should complain much about that. Much better selection than Manor Safeway as they have more space to work with (not to criticize manor, that is just a smaller store). read more

I shop at safeway with regularity and have begun to notice a Sharp jump in their prices. Everything that used to be reasonably priced. items that normally stay on sale now list for almost double the price. new low price for safeway brand soda 1.25$ per 2 liter, w/card .89 each. Do they really think we are that stupid that nobody remembers .89 per bottle regular price. Or this great BOGO promotion in (buy one get one) value pack their meat dept. Has. Totally not a sale or a deal if you mark the regular price to double and throw a buy one get one free advertisement on it, I'm just buying 2 at your regular price. Example 1 London broil 7.99$ @2.99 per pound while the value pack with 2 in it lists for 25.00$ WTF! Time to keep the money in the community and out of corporate hands. No appreciation for our patronage. read more

Re: The meat department, which seems oblivious to the concept of weights and measures, labelling, etc. Today's adventure involves buying a package of boneless/skinless chicken thighs. The package I wanted was the smallest (and for that very reason), but all you could read of the label was the weight, 2.99 lbs. I took the package to the meat dep't counter, asking for the label to be re-marked. He took the package, and when I got it back, it weighed 3.17 lbs , so it went back to the case. Then I went to buy something else, a package of pork chops, which were clearly and obviously pork chops, but were just as clearly marked as 'beef cube steaks'. I gave that package to the same "butcher" (meat technician?), simultaneously complaining about his fudging the chicken weight, and the mislabel of the pork chops. I had to point out the beef/pork chop error to draw his focus away from the weight of that package. His response, "Oh." Safeway meat departments seem to have issues with their product labels, often mislabeling their products, and in my experience, the mislabel is usually to a higher priced cut of meat, like lamb blade chops being designated lamb shoulder chops. Hopefully they are better on the issue of hygiene than they are on proper labelling...but, who knows? This has been going on for years. My letter to Safeway management some years ago prompted an audit of the store and it agreed with my assessment. They said something would be done about it, and maybe, for a week or two, something was. But it's right back to totally untrustworthy. When you shop at Safeway be sure to double-check every item you take from a case or shelf. It's good odds that they put the wrong item over the (would-be-empty slot on the shelf) price tags. Apparently the Safeway policy is, "It's better to put a wrong, misleading, not-on-sale item where a 'sale' item should be, than to leave the shelf space empty." Caveat Emptor, indeed. read more

I moved to Pacifica 5 years ago now. One thing that never ceases to amaze me is what a great little Safeways this one in Linda Mar is. The selection is really pretty robust but it's the staff that make this place so special. The service is remarkably friendly and makes it my top pick for a supermarket in Pacifica. read more

I have lived in Pacifica for over 40 years and to my dismay was very unhappy with Linda Mar Safeway. But since Carlos Cesar has taken over as manager, the store has never been so fully stocked. It is a pleasure to shop and find all the products you are looking for. In the past the shelves were always empty and the manager,Rick Garza, could care less. I hope this is the beginning of good things to come for Safeway and their customers. read more

Worst store I've ever been in. Just went back twice in a row because (2) different bottles of wine had turned. Clerk's response:, "Well, we don't bottle it here...". Really...? But you do store it improperly and let it sit on your shelf too long! Lines are also atrociously long here. Customer service is non-existent. Save your time, gas and money. Go somewhere else. read more

The lines are typically so long they stretch into the isles. This happens so often I finally have to say something. There are usually only 2 or 3 people working the registers and almost not baggers. Even if you buy something hot you usually have to go get in line behind 5 or 10 people. read more

I'm sorry to dish Safeway because they have the nicest staff anywhere, but the staples of a healthy diet are overpriced and of poor quality. The produce is by far the worst produce in the area. I throw away more than we eat because it's bad. They will replace it, but what a hassle! One day, I looked at my bill and thought, what did I buy? I looked over the receipt and realized I paid $15.00 for a watermelon (off season) Because they import produce from out of the country on a regular basis, you lose sight of what is actually in season and you pay dearly for non-seasonal items. The idea of 'seasonal best' is completely absent from this store. Frequently, they over stock and the produce is moldy/bruised. The prices seem to have gone up to pay for the remodel and they were expensive to begin with. Safeway in Tahoe had most cheese at HALF the cost of our local Safeway! Another reminder this is an overpriced store that dominates a geographic area. I do notice some promotional items at a good price and due to time constraints and geography, I have no other choice :o( They do have a good liquor selection with good prices.. just what Pacifica needs LOL They added a Starbucks in case you're too lazy to walk across the parking lot. The primary perks are: they have just about everything you need, they have a very good deli, and as I said before, an awesome staff who should consider opening a comedy club in the after hours. read more
