Basically been coming here since I was born over 20 years ago. Never ran into any problems that I can think of. This place is just a basic neighborhood grocery store in a small town. Nothing really spectacular. I always get what I need. However, on my last visit, like 2 weeks ago, some of the alcohol here are more expensive than other Safeways in SF. I came in 1 day and it was all one price, then I came back the following week and the price for the bottles went up like $5. I don't know why but just a sidenote I thought I'd mention. But, nowdays, there are other grocery stores like Sprouts in Daly City that have cheaper produce but if you're like me and you live walking distance from here, why would you drive to DC for some groceries? So this is just a good walk in-get what you need in 10 minutes-walk out type place. read more

This review is mostly for the deli. Every time I come in there is an older Asian gentleman and a middle aged Indian woman working in the deli area and the gentleman is always very angry and hostile and slamming things around or talking very rudely to the woman that works with him. 1 day he was grabbing items from the hot bar for me and a friend and he starts in on the woman saying "ooh are you just gonna stand around or are you gonna help me??!? What's wrong with you??" Last time I checked it only takes 1 person to weigh out the food items... then he turns to me and my friend and says "Uggh some women am i right?" we didn't say anything back to him just gave him the wtf? stare and he replies back "ooh sorry" because he could see it made both of us very uncomfortable to be involved in there argument. Then just this Wednesday Sept 29th I was in there to get a few sandwiches before a concert and the same 2 employees are behind the deli counter together, I was in line and I could hear the man already going in on the woman "why are you staring at me? don't you have better things to do?" The man seems very unhappy to work here and is always upset, I have never heard the woman be anything but nice and professional to the man and to all her customers! After the man finished his customers last sandwich, with about 4-5 people still waiting in line for sandwiches and the hot bar, the man grabbed his items from the mini fridge and took his break without saying anything or having somebody relieve him, leaving the woman by herself with all the waiting customers. She looked so sad and miserable, when my turn came to make my sandwiches, I made sure I told the woman she was doing a great job and working very hard and I notice the mans actions every time i come in and it's just not right. She damn near started crying because I could tell she was so so frustrated and just the reassurance that she was doing a good job was comforting to hear. I worked as an assistant manager for a retail clothing store for years and years and I would have never ever let my employees treat each other in such a disrespectful manner, especially in front of customers. Safeway's manager needs to step in, have a presence on the sales floor, be a leader, and terminate or retrain there employees on customer service and professionalism. P.S. On a more positive note, the fish selection is always really fresh! :) read more

It really only gets a bonus star because I live close by. Like many places in Pacifica, it feels like you've entered some sort of time warp when you walk in. Every other Safeway I've been to in the recent past have all been remodeled. Not this one. It looks like it's been neglected for at least twenty years. If you shop here, you really, REALLY, need to check your expiration dates. I've been burned too many times already.. (fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...) It's saving grace is that they actually have stuff that is on sale. (Unlike Safeway in the Sunset) I guess the lack of customers is a good thing for me in this regard. Common things are often sold out though. I switch between whole and 2% milk often, since they're slow to restock, or the expiration date is too close on one of them.. read more

I've been going to this SAFEWAY for about 2 years. It's a great convenience being so close to my apartment, but there are several issues with the store: 1st, there's always a line, usually because there are only 2 check stands open most of the time, 2nd, the selection is pretty slim (compared to other Safeway stores), I've been there before when they didn't have a 1/2 gallon of milk. 3rd, there is no bakery and the deli and butcher choices are also slim. read more

This place was remodeled end of 2007, it's just okay. On weekend mornings before 9 or 10am I don't think they have anyone manning the customer service desk unless you ask. I go early at 8am there is no one there, they also bag your stuff for you! Also, bring your own bag and let the cashier know and you get a few cents off, which adds up over a year. I like looking through their almost expired meat section, got a few nice roasts for cheap. No lottery, Boooo! Bathrooms are a nasty, wait until you go home if you have to. No double coupon days, but if you cut and save it's not that bad. read more

It is ok . . . the remodel does make it prettier. I have yet to experience them being out of things (milk, what?) but have to agree that the staff is not friendly. They seem to hate working there . . . and it shows. i do like the Starbucks in there. They had this VERY nice older gentleman that was just so kind and happy. i felt like he was forced out of retirement to work there . . . but who knows. It was just a feeling. I prefer Linda Mar. While the bakery/cafe workers and baggers have always been very helpful and polite and nice, the cashiers always seem really upset. Rarely do I get a smile or a how are you today. I've had bad vegetables from here like rotten celery but I should have inspected it better on my part. But I come in with a good mood and leave kind of depressed since everyone looks so unhappy. Its a very crowded store and there's usually only a few lanes open so its not uncommon to have to stand in a line of 6 or 7 people and for a really small store, it gets really crazy. read more

This store has failed its customers more then once. This store doesn't have a bakery on site therefore it must must ship it's bakery products in from somewhere else. Not once but twice as it's baked items been found with flying gnats and flies in the cabinet with the open pastries. Notify employees they didn't seem to care called customer service to get some resolution store manager did call me back and ensure that it would be taking care of. today I was back in the store and it was not any better. this is the second time I've been in that store with the same issue in the same situation. Again stores has failed to see the complete and hazard of this issue told me they didn't know what to do about it. it was my first and the laast time i will be here every counter has a cashier but there is only long one line for all the customers waiting eventhough theres a n aisle available for each cashiers that customers can line up cashiers preferred to hold customers in just one line at the side of the starbucks i dont think the management in this branch know this or instructed this to the cashiers to hold only one long line because this is not a shopping store like ross, marshalls that dont have an aisle for each cashiers they have limited space but groceries stores has space just the other safeway that i have always visited even lucky, smart and finals, walgreens other super market store read more

Their produce section is quite poor as the selections are meager. However, once in a while one gets lucky and sale items like the avocados, for instance, are quite good. I must agree with the majority of recent reviews regarding customer service. I find this branch to have hit or miss clerks. The cashier today was weird in asking me what my thoughts were about Prince Harry & Meghan Markle (I was purchasing this week's People). I mean what kind of 'thoughts' would the clerk have meant I surmised later on? That they are biracial? I mean this is the 21st century. But maybe Pacifica is still in the past century?? read more

This Safeway is closer to my house and out of laziness I find myself at this location on a regular basis. If I have time I will drive across town to the other Safeway because the selection is better and the lines move faster. Like other reviewers I've found that this location offers moldy produce, understocked shelves, and long waits at the check out (not just occasionally but on a regular basis). read more

I work for instacart and grocery shop for a living. I'm in at least 2 or 3 different Safeway stores on the peninsula every day. This one stands out as the the worst by far vand not because of their limited inventory or the unkempt aisles and displays but because of the employee attitude and or morale. Frequently my requests are met with sarcasm, wisecracks, etc. it's been my experience that these sort of pervasive personnel issues start at the top, otherwise the bad apples would be singled out. So I won't name employees for I don't believe it is their fault. Good luck Safeway your gonna need it with sharp competitors like Sprouts and Trader Joe's these stores actively attend issues that come up in the normal course of business much more effectively. The problems that this store has are not easily dealt with. I look forward to shopping at Sprouts, Trader Joe's, and Costco I dread the thought of shopping here. read more

They have a thief in this store. He is a black guy name Dion. He is about 25 year old working as a cashier there. The first time he tried to steal my money, he told me the total came out to be $63 and few cents. I gave him $100 cash. He then gave me back $3 cash. Luckily I counted the money right in front of him and asked him "Why did you only give me back $3? It should be at least $36 dollars in change." He said Oh I must have dropped the rest of the money on the floor. Then he just took out another $33 from his cash box and handed it over to me and said its OK now. You can leave now. I went home and called Safeway to report this incident, and the guy who spoke to me did not take me seriously. He said he is sure Dion just made an honest mistake. But my question is how the hell would this man drop $30 on the floor without even noticing it? I have been a cashier before. And if I gave customer $30 short that is a big deal. Then this asshole Dion tried to steal my money again yesterday. It was the same gag. The total was around $52. I handed him $100 cash. Then he just gave me $4 cash in return. I was shocked when I counted the money in front of him. I asked him "Why did you give me $4?" Then he studied the receipt and gave me back $47 and took back the $4 he gave me. I called Safeway again and reported this right after I got home. I hope this take me seriously this time. That guy Dion was hoping that customers would simply trust all of the employees of Safeway, thinking that they will get back the correct change everytime. But among them are thieves like Dion. And when he robs you he robs you not just a dollar or 2. He tries to steal like $40 or $50 from you. If you simply take the cash and put it into your wallet and walk out like you are in a hurry, you just lost shitload of money to this thief. read more

Bought $200 worth of groceries today. I opted not to use bags stating that I would gently put them back into the cart. Yes, I used the word gently. Once I started arranging the groceries back into the cart along came a bagger where he began to THROW my groceries. I squealed a little "aaa". He looked at me, I looked at him and he began throwing harder and faster. Hard enough to remove the cap off the Pam can, hard enough that it opened my bread and cracked the glass on a jar. I should have spoken up but was so dumb founded that this was happening. So disrespectful. read more

This Safeway is dingy, smelly, and quite rank, but since it is in walking distance from my house I keep going to it (great for the last minute forgotten ingredient list), however after last night I will make the trek up to Linda Mar Safeway. Ok, I can handle the white employee with the cornrows, the latino checker hollarin' out to a random girl out in the parking lot, but when they refuse to honor their OWN COUPON and berate me (the customer) for trying to rip them off, that is THE FINAL STRAW. My boyfriend and I came in with a GM or Kellogg's cereal 4 for $6 coupon last night. No where on the coupon did it have any specifics on which type of cereal to get so we spent about 10 minutes trying to decide which 4 we wanted (hey, it was Sunday night and we were bored). Get up to the checker, original checker was in a hurry and didn't know what to do when the coupon ringed up incorrectly. Got this old white guy in a shirt that rang the cereal up seperately, then tried to give us a 4 for $10 deal. After we corrected him and told him it was actually for $6 (he couldn't even read the damn coupon cuz he didn't have his reading glasses on) he decided the coupon was valid only for certain cereals although it never said anything like that on the coupon. Then he said, "You should've taken the $10 when I first offered it to you". What the heck??? Like we were trying to scam his store or something. SHADY!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could say we will never shop here again, but since they are like 2 blocks from my place I probably will. But I won't be happy about it. read more

Their sandwich maker is an idiot - The guy cuts my roll in half and than asks what condiments do I want on my sandwich and I reply "no mayonnaise or onions". He repeats it back to me and then proceeds to put mayonnaise on my bread. After I point out his mistake they are now out of sourdough rolls. I settle for a dutch crunch. It's conveniently located. Very close the freeway and you have the ocean just around the corner for some fresh air after your shopping needs. Never had any problems at this Safeway they usually carry all the organic vegetables and fruits that I'm shopping for. Comparable prices and the clerks are pretty friendly mot of the time. The sushi guy especially is super personable; I would order a brown rice roll and after he's done rolling it he would look for me and deliver it to my basket. I'm a vegetarian so I rarely purchase any meet or chicken unless I'm cooking for friends and family. Their fish selection is rather small however they do carry salmon and catfish which are the two fish my family enjoy to eat. Appearance wise this Safeway is rather clean and there's many selections of nuts and flowers which I do appreciate. The only think I don't like is their carts are dirty sometimes and hard to separate. read more

Nearly 25 years ago, I was in the Czech Republic over a holiday weekend, during which the stores would be closed for several days. People literally lined up for hours the day before closing to clear their small corner markets of virtually every single item, as though they were preparing for the Apocalypse. As an outsider who had failed to secure a prime spot in line, I couldn't find a loaf of bread or carton of milk to save my life. Store shelves were completely bare. Usually I go to the one in Linda Mar because it's bigger, updated, and has a better selection of food, especially produce. Since September my husband and I have been trying to get this store and it's manager Tony to remove the obstructing shopping cart stalls placed in 3 van accessible handicapped spots out in front of the store and nothing has happened despite being told by Tony in September he would sort it out "immediately". We contacted SafeWay HQ who responded that they spoke with Tony and the matter should be resolved by 10/2/14. I can tell you all three spots were still obstructed 10/12/14. I am in process now of contacting the ADA and city council. My husband already wrote the local paper. We contacted local PD twice and they say they can only go in to the store & request he sort this out. This is no way to run a store or block (violating ADA law) 3 van accessible spots for the disabled. We were told by Tony that contractors were required to come out and unbolt the stalls -- if Safeway HQ says it should have been resolved by 10/2/14 - why is it not??? read more

I just want to add after coming here for the three years that I've lived here the people who work here are very kind and hard working. I've gotten to know some of them not on a personal basis, more of a acquaintances basis and it really impresses me of how much abuse these people take. The girls who work at Starbucks do an amazing job, and the workers especially when they get swamped. Again I'm really shocked at all the negative things people say, but I guess they don't have anything better do with their time. This rating is only for the Starbucks. I went there thinking that the line would be shorter than the regular Starbucks but it's not. The people that were working there were grumpy and full of attitude. I ordered a couple of coffees and to my dismay, the barista and the cashier were outright rude. I asked the cashier lady for a cup of regular pikes peak coffee. I said "ill have regular coffee?" and she just gave me a WTF look saying " i'm gonna have to make it so youre gonna have to wait". ok, maybe shes having a bad day..ill let that pass Then the african american chick that was making the coffee seemed irritated when I confirmed for my other coffee order when i asked "hi, is this xoxoxox?" and with a disgruntled expression, eyes rolling back and a twerk in her head motion "uh huh", and throwing spoons on the counter and kicking the bottom shelf. ummm...really? i paid a lot for the coffee that i buy...you know....if you hate your job, seriously, get another one. There's no reason for you two irritated disgruntled pompous chicks to give attitude to me and the other customers. And what is with that throwing spoons around and kicking stuff? GTFOH with that attitude. Didnt your parents teach you manners? I'd probably expect this type of attitude if the Starbucks was in Tenderloin or Bayview, but certainly NOT Pacifica, out of all places. I come here pretty much every other day. For the most part, I have no problem waiting for a few minutes but lately its getting worse. OK so I am writing this because I just can not believe how many people are bashing this store. 95% of the workers there mean well and will go the extra mile to make sure you are happy. The employees are people and just like anyone they deserve the same respect you want from them. Just watch and see how many customers are rude to the cashiers and then expect to be treated well in return, it is sickening. I like the cashier Kathy , she really helped me with my wife's flowers & balloons for her birthday. She must have gone through 30 plus balloons to find me one that was not even known to be an option and it was perfect! The store is small and they make the most of the square footage they have and have on 2 occasions began carrying items per suggestions, you can thank me partly for the Hersey almond bars 6-pack & Orowheat Italian bread! That sounds bad, I do eat veggies too. I think this is a solid 4 star place. 5 stars is reserved for the truly exceptional like the Oakland Whole Foods with 15 different hot fresh soups and 5 different salad bars! read more

Came to send money through western union this morning, the clerk named Julianna was rude, turn-slamming the cash register monitor when i told her she would find the receiver's name in their data base. loooked at her name tag and she told me her name was julianna in challenging way. Hey safeway, you are that big of a grocery chain, you need to train your worker on sensitivity issues. This is not the first time she did this, there were other customers complained about her rudeness, you do not behave that way in customers service. Yeah this Safeway sucks big time. The only thing that salvages it is the location. The one in Linda Mar is way better. Way bigger, cleaner, nicer, better staff, and better selection. This Safeway is dirty, you have to watch for expired items on the shelves- this is the Safeway that was forgotten along the way. The Safeway brand should really come down and fix this place up- it embarasses the proud Safeway name. The Farmer's Market next door is great- for most things, I would much rather shop there. Safeway is only good for last second- do or die type stuff. It is always FREEZING in there. Pacifica is cold already- you don't need to blast the AC as high as it will go 24/7. I really want them to fix this place up so I can shop here more often, but I don't see that happening anytime soon.. So Farmer's Market here I come... I'd rather pay extra than deal with that Safeway read more

Dingy, depressing, desperately in need of updating. Food selection basic. # of checkers sparse. Have bought a few dairy products here where, once got home, saw it was out of date by a month and spoiled. I avoid this place now unless its an emergency. Love the prices and how clean the store is but the manager Patrick has to be the most rude, insensitive, arrogant man i have ever meet. Wouldn't give me eye contact or even a conversation will ringing up my items. Worst of all after i payed and was trying to put my money away he pushed me aside and started ringing up the next peson. My feelings were so hurt i cryed on my way home. Patrick needs to be trained in customer service oh my please don't let him work the check stands i would rather wait an exstra 10 minutes in line then to be treated like i was nothing. read more

Please don't change! I like the staff here. You really care for customers. By contrast, the new Safeway at Fairmont Plaza and the big Safeway at Linda Mar seem much less so. Perhaps some of that has to do with the buyout of Safeway stores. I'd currently rate other local Safeway stores as a 1 at most, in terms of customer service anyway. That's one of the reasons I rarely shop at Safeway anymore other than to get the sale prices on basics like Treetop apple juice and specialty items like Lu dark chocolate "Schoolboy" biscuits. :) It's highly unlikely that any Safeway could ever entice me to be a Safeway-only customer, but Manor Plaza Safeway comes much, much closer than the others. read more

This review is for the Starbucks only: Staying at my in-laws house, and I had to have my morning run to Starbucks. We usually go up to the Fairmont Center location but it was right across the street from Walgreen's, we just came from Walgreen's basically it was much more convenient and closer. We went inside Safeway and the line to Starbucks wasn't too long, altho the line waiting for drinks did seem like a bit of a wait. I got to the register and the first thing the Barista asked me is "What would you like?"..No how are you or anything of the sort..I ordered my drink and moved on, I said thank you and no have a nice day or anything..As I waited for my drink, I noticed there was only one person making the drinks and she seemed to struggle. I waited a couple minutes and finally my drink came up. I asked her for a sleeve but she said they are all out, and then for a stopper but they are all out of it as well. =(. It was fine..I guess I'm just use to the A+ service that they provide at the other Starbucks. I've been to other Starbucks/Safeway location, and they always seem to have an alternative to stoppers (ex. straws). Next time I would take the extra time and go to the usual Starbucks spot in Fairmont Center, at least I know they are always stocked up. read more

Ok. I've given this store chance after chance because it's close to home but I'm now breaking the ties and shopping at Lucky up the hill. The cashiers and baggers are great but the specific department employees need to check their stock before adding new products to their shelves! I literally have cleared out the yogurt, milk and cottage cheese stock and put it all in my cart because it was all expired and taken it to the check out stand and asked for the mgr!! I got, "oh sorry, let me take this cart for you.." Wtf? No thank you or anything. I have bought countless items that have been expired but I didn't realize it at the time! Usually an ok convenient place. Hey it's manor in Pacifica, not exactly pacific heights. But tonight I bought a bottle of mid priced wine that was on sale for $15.00 within minutes of opening it I brought it back. It was brown and smelled of vinegar and oxidation and rot. There was maybe 1% missing. The lady in customer service said they could do nothing. She said she was the night manager. Wouldn't exchange it or give me store credit or anything to make it right. I had my receipt and everything. This location just lost a customer for life. As far as I'm concerned they robbed me. read more
