I called ahead before bringing my wheelchair bound mother in for a flu shot. When I finally got through after holding, the pharmacist gave me a smart aleck answer about how they had so many callers they didn't have time to give flu shots. She just lost our business. Want a smart mouth pharmacist? This is the place! read more

Not a bad store, just some inconsistent customer service in my experience. I suggest never going before 1 pm because they routinely only have the express checkout open. It gets you great looks from your fellow customers when you roll up with more than 15 items. My favorite time was being turned away by the express lane clerk and having no other lanes open. Produce was good, lasted through the week; meat spoiled quickly and needed to be prepared soon after purchase. Be sure to check the expiration dates on perishables. Other than a few hiccups, they always had the items I needed. read more

I would normally NEVER even think about writing a review for a Grocery Store, but with that said I am bored and was so underwhelmed I figured why not. Sooo here goes... If you are at all familiar with the phenomena that surrounds new business' that open in the Olney area you are probably aware that there was a lot of hype around this Safeway opening, probably fueled by the fact that it took forever to finally open. So I decided to stop in at lunch yesterday to do some light shopping. I was sooo under impressed. It looks huge from the parking lot but doesn't seem that big on the inside. Yes, it is clean. But I walked in and noticed two things: 1. It's dark in here and 2. This looks a LOT like the old safeway...which is strange considering they had ripped the old one to the ground. The deli selection was horrible, there is a sushi station full of horrible looking grocery store sushi mostly cooked options. Which I didn't try so I can't comment on. The only thing that this Safeway has going for it is that it is the only grocery store in the area selling beer and wine. Otherwise...with so many options around I would stick to one of those instead. read more

My Safeway experience was five stars due to the excellent and very knowledgeable sushi chef named Mawi. She really knows her stuff and gave me a great customer service experience. It was like she anticipated what I was looking for when I hovered over the sushi section. I was hoping to find crispy shrimp roll but it wasn't there. She came out to help me find but it wasn't in the case so she made me one right then and there. It looked so inviting, I ate it in the parking lot and it was surprisingly good, like restaurant quality. I also got olives in containers that were also top notch. The store has a very good overall selection of products I buy at the best overall prices and quality in the area. The produce I bought was fresh and well priced. I will be going back and prefer the Safeway store in Olney to lower quality, overpriced Giant and high priced Harris Teeter. Thanks Mawi, you made my day with excellent sushi and now I am a loyal Safeway customer. read more

Wonderful selection of well-priced wine and cheeses! Love the touch of occasional wine tastings. The deli makes great salads and party trays. The little lady who replenishes the salad bar is a real sweetheart. Great ambiance for a Safeway! read more

Very frustrating. All Safeways in the area have run out of monopoly tickets. There were no signs informing the customers the tickets ran out but they still had all of the signs promoting buy more get more tickets. read more

This Safeway has gone downhill fast. Their produce goes bad quickly after a purchase. Their seafood is terrible. I bought a pound of wild shrimp on Sunday and on Monday it had gone bad. I believe they are refreezing old shrimp and then sell it as "previously frozen". The meat department has also deteriorated and they are pushing their own "Signature Brand". I'd compare their pork chops to eating rubber. Other than the pharmacy and paper products, I am done with this store. read more

These idiots that gave this Safeway 1 star rating obviously just looking to post something for the sake of posting. I see a lot of complaining and no real explanations for their so called concerns, and I know for 1 most of these things that they're saying our allies because I live close by this Safeway. They have thenicest people out of any grocery store in the area, and the reason why they only have one cashier at night is because not many people shop at midnight. read more

I ordered a sheet cake from the bakery for my mom's 86th birthday. Ordered by phone on Thurs for a pickup on Sunday 12:30. I arrived at 12:45, and there was no cake and no paperwork could be found. The staff in the bakery were confused and frantic. They said they would put something together for me asap. (Meanwhile 30 of my mom's friends were all waiting for this cake!) The disturbing part was the managers response -- he said he would talk to the staff about it later in the week. No sympathy, no apologies. Clearly this manager does not have a customer focus. 5 stars for the staff in the bakery who did their best to give me a replacement cake quickly 1 star for the store manager. 1 star for the "bakery manager" who took my phone order, but didn't seem to tell anyone about it. read more

I've had troubles with both CVS & Giant giving me the wrong dosage before. So far Safeway's been right on the money! Folks are nice too.

A bad shopping experience for the most part due to poor design and mgt practices! Love the extensive inventory and the cleanliness of the store. However, the isles are way too narrow; there is just enough room for two carts to barely pass. So if someone is stopped, scanning the shelf and someone is coming the other way the it is an instant traffic jam. This is often made worse by the practice of taking up isle floor space with product displays. Additionally the ends of rows are jammed up with floor displays - making turns difficult and jammed if someone else is coming around. The crowding is also very bad up front at the registers. If there are two carts in the check out isle then the third one jams up the front so traffic up and down the isle is more congested. This is made worse by very slow check out procedures. It seems that all of this crowding and congestion contribute to making shoppers rude and aggressive as they try to maneuver around. read more

Amazing selection of food. The pharmacists are very helpful. They could use more cashiers.

I generally like this Safeway, but they have some really unfortunate labor saving practices that I don't find to be very customer friendly. Early in the mornings, for example, even on busy shopping days like Sunday, they will have ONE register open. They don't open the self-checkouts early either, so if you're trying to run in real quick in the morning, you're screwed. And often the only lane they have open is an express lane, but they'll let enormous orders through because nothing else is opened. On a Friday afternoon they NEVER have enough cashiers. The waits are ridiculously long; long enough that I generally avoid Safeway on Fridays and try to shop elsewhere. read more

The staff here is incredible! From the lady (Diane I believe) who suggests the cheese to the wine/beer guys who are ever so helpful, the sushi man, the deli peeps and that pharmacy is incredible-I've never felt so safe at a pharmacy! You can tell the head pharmacist is on top of it - and she's so professional and patient. A small town feel within a huge chain. Love my Safeway! read more

Horrible customer service at the Olney Safeway ! I shop here at least 3 times a week because of the convenience. Every time I'm shopping here, I'm amazed at how unfriendly and rude the employees are. There is a huge difference between Safeway and the other area grocery stores as far as the customer service is concerned. Giant, Harris Teeter, Roots and Shoppers all have friendly and helpful employees. At Safeway, employees act like you are bothering them.Self check employees are the biggest offenders. Safeway employees should take a class in manners and basic respect to others. read more

Horrible! Only go there as a last resort and kick myself for it. Stopped by on my way to work to pick up something quick only one cashier that's it! Customer had a FULL order on the belt and kept going back to get more. The cashier had to stop and look at many of the items instead of just scanning, not to talk about the items just to look at what it is, the line was quickly backing up. Thought I'd try again a couple of days later the exact same cashier had the line waiting while he stopped and talk to a customer about his union contract. We have 4 grocery stores all pretty much across the street so you would think Safeway would step things up. Apparently there's only ONE cashier until 8am. That's crazy! Won't go there anymore! At least open the self service! Bad move Safeway! Bad move!! read more

Deli counter only has one staff member to slice things to order, and line is 4 people deep. Ridiculous. I've been waiting over five minutes and still not being served. read more

The new Safeway is fabulous for so many reasons. My main compliment is that they have all the imported cheeses I love, but buy at Roots, for much less money. Being able to pick up wine, great desserts, and wonderful produce is great too. Unfortunately, they must have kept most of the original staff. All that smiling and "welcome to Safeway" that was in the ads are non-existent. You still get a lot of attitude and help chatting in the back ignoring you. Then this morning what really made me doubt the service was one, "Wayne" who left my husband and I standing at the express line with no eye contact, totally ignoring us and not bothering to explain there was a shift change, leaving us hanging trying to check out a few things. His replacement wasn't much better. read more

If you have been putting yourself through the hassle of dealing with CVS and Giant for your perscriptions, give yourself a break and let this pharmacy take care of you. The lead pharmacist does an incredible job as well as her supporting staff. If they don't have it in stock they will order it and make sure they have it for your subsequent refills. Stick with these guys! read more

I agree with the other reviews about the staff at the Olney Safeway. They follow through on promised deadlines and work to get unusual meds in store promptly. I have been there many times when they are busy and they never lose their professional and caring attitude. Other pharmacies could learn from them. read more

I should've wrote this review 5 months ago but have been so busy that I haven't had the chance. The bakery at Olney Safeway goes above and beyond what I would ever expect or hope for as a customer. Last April I ordered a birthday cake for my son at Giant(I know, what was I thinking right?) I placed the order almost a week in advance and called twice to confirm that everything was set for my pick up time just before the party. I received a call from Giants bakery less than 2 hours before the party telling me that they weren't going to be able to make the cake. I was devastated because I knew that my son would be heartbroken. After calling grocery store after grocery store no one could help me with such short notice. I then remembered that there was a Giant in Olney that I have driven by a few times( I live about 20 minutes from Olney so I'm rarely there.) I took a chance and called them as a last resort. With an hour left before the party they said 'come on in and we will take care of you. " As soon as I arrived they were waiting and assured me that I would have the cake of my sons dreams soon. When I asked them what time I should be back they said "don't leave, I'll have it ready in 15 minutes". Sure enough 15 minutes later they handed me the cake that I desperately needed done even more perfect than I could've imagined. The entire staff was so kind and so helpful. I had never had a cake from Safeway and to my surprise it was absolutely delicious. Everyone at the party agreed. I have never gone anywhere else since. Every time I order a cake the staff is on point. Even when I've been in a rush, last minute, unannounced, you name it. It's never a problem. Absolute perfection! read more

lately they've been clogging the aisles with product displays. it's the equivalent of single tracking on the metro and makes it hard to keep moving sometimes. the quality of the meat seems to have dipped significantly lately, too. i've switched to a different (nicer) grocery store, and was surprised that almost everything i buy is cheaper there. i can't think of a single reason to shop at safeway. read more

I always use this pharmacy for prescriptions that I don't mail away. The pharmacists are very helpful and I don't have to wait a long time. I can do my shopping while I wait or the doctor can call the script to the pharmacy or fax it to them. read more

I can't express how much I love this grocery store. It took awhile to visit because it was so popular that it was packed the first few days it opened. I grew up in Olney and am well versed in what options area available as far as grocery shopping. The new Safeway was revamped to compete with the Harris teeter. They did what they set out to do. I genuinely enjoy shopping here more than ever with the new improvements and larger always fresh selections. Also they always double coupons up to a dollar. I'm a mother and wife and need to save money whenever possible. Their new just 4 you program is phenomenal. I save on average 30-40% each shopping trip without additional coupons. The new wine section is quite large and extremely well priced with sales often. I literally get high from the adrenaline of saving so much money. We have family in the industry and even though they're in management for competitors, they love our store. The store is large, clean and has plenty of everything. I recommend this store to all of my friends and they all love shopping there when visiting when in the area. I used to bounce from store to store, but I now stick to the Safeway and the just for you program unless there's a ridiculous sale somewhere else. read more
