We are huge fans of Safeway! We have yet to pay full price on our groceries. Discounts are so easy to apply via their app. Plus you get 20% off coupons for filling five prescriptions there. Plus 10% for getting your vaccinations done in store. Oh and add on the free stuff that you can get via their app. Yes the store does need a bit of love, the freezers have dings, and the floor could do with retiling. But the food is in date and at great prices. Other stores tend to be less than fastidious about removing out of date produce. (I'm looking at you Giant!) Everyone is friendly and we barely have to wait at all at checkout. If there is a line of any length, customer service will open another checkout. read more

Just left this store. Apparently their "system is down" so you can only pay by credit or cash, no debit. Which is fine, things happen but they need to make that clear when entering the store or at least possibly put signs up at the registers. Having to wait in line, go through the checkout process, and then after the debit card is not authorized have the cashier rudely state "you can't use debit" and when asking why she THEN states the system is down. I suggested that they need to have that information posted somewhere so that people are aware coming into the store. Did she even bother to acknowledge my suggestion? Nope didn't even look at me. Again, things happen but it's how they are handled that matters most. read more

The Meat and Seafood Department is a joke . 2 Visits in 1 week and never again . 1st visit- waited 1/2 hour to get a cut of filet mignon , the seafood guy wasn't able to help because he only does seafood and the meat guy evidently went on a very long break . Wound up leaving and getting my meat at Food Lion . 2nd Visit - Rang Bell ,waited about 5 minutes and nobody came ,so i resumed shopping for about 30 minutes and then went back . Still nobody at counter . The seafood guy shows up with a major scowl on his face and asked what i would like . I order 2 pieces of tilapia . He grabs raw rainbow trout and i tell him ,i need tilapia and with the same piece of paper he grabs tilapia . I ask him for a new piece as he just cross contaminated my raw fish . He then calls me a jack ass ,and then tells me he's been doing this for 30 years , and that's not cross contamination . It absolutely is cross contamination ,and he's lucky i didn't jump over the counter after he called me a jack ass . If that's what you get with union employees ,wow !!!!! . Better off with a bunch of high school kids that appreciate a guests business. read more

Thanks to the department that provides curbside pick up for internet shoppers, I have been able to stay out of the store . Everyone has been so kind. This store is not the closest to me but it is the better option. read more

I used to go there all the time For great produce and meat selections. When COVID-19 shut down the stores as we know them and I started using Instacart I selected you as my option for one shop. I was amazed at how much you had raised your prices during this pandemic.I visited your store once in early April at 7 AM so no one would be in the store. Your prices were so much higher than they ever had been and there was one other customer in there using the same cashier I had to use who was ahead of me basically using an old Kleenex as a mask. When I got up to the cashier I asked if that was an appropriate face covering and she told me it wasn't her business. I probably won't be back until I get a vaccine and you get real about your prices. read more

Safeway is promoting the online shopping/delivery/pickup. So I tried it today. Added 16 items to my cart, after phone call #1 to help set up the account with a new phone number. Delivery wasn't available for 2 more days, so needed to switch to pick up, phone call #2. Tried to check out and couldn't put my credit card number in, phone call #3. So 2 hours of my life gone, they couldn't help me, and here I am with no groceries. Only tried it cuz I injured my knee. I'd rather limp through the store than go through this again. Please stop promoting a product whose website has bugs and is nonfunctional. read more

Talk about price gouging! Their club card specials reduce prices to about 50% higher than Walmart Super Center costs for the same items! Employees are clannish and the Bakery staff are not customer-friendly. Plus, here it comes, if you shop at night, plan on seeing roaches scuttle under the bread and cupcake shelving units!!! read more

Delivery is an awesome option, to bad Safeway in Mount Airy cant get it right. We have been using there delivery service since it started. That being said out 50 + deliveries they have not gotten 1 correct. The orders are always incomplete/ missing items, unauthorized substitutes and today they delivered to the wring house and the food sat outside in the heat for over an hour. Long story short if you use this service still plan on having to go to the store to finish your order. read more

I love safeway! My family does most of our shopping there. Here's the thing. They are currently renovating and moving things around. It's very confusing. There are razors and feminine products in the bread section even though there are still feminine products where the health and beauty section is? There are a multitude of empty shelves and remaining signs of old products even though they have been moved to a different place. It's all very confusing right now. read more

very high priced store and i cant stand all the displays in the aisles. they are ridiculous because its normal stuff like mayonnaise. things they can put on the shelf but it's some scheme to get you to go through the store slower. stop trying to make an extra buck and give your costumers enough space for two people to go down an aisle. i flat out dont buy anything off of them read more

This Store is dirty, the sale signs do not show the accurate price pertaining to that weeks sales, when brought to the attn of the staff they do not give the customer the sale price, which then is considered false advertising. The waiting in line after self checkout is closed (8pm) is @ least ten min. absolutely horrible experience every time. Will drive all the way to Weiss for my groceries! read more

Clean modern grocery store, lots of variety. They have a great bakery, competent pharmacy, and very good meat products. Produce is usually good. My only real complaint is that ever since they installed self-checkout stations, the regular cashier lanes are markedly fewer. Since I am a regular here and rarely have less than 1/2 cart full, self-checkout isn't esp. helpful for me. I know they added self-check for the Super Fresh customers who lost their regular store when it went under, but I sure wish they'd remember the regulars who REALLY liked the fully staffed cashier lanes!!! read more

Nice enough store, some things are difficult to find, but for the most part navigable once you get the hang of it. One cashier talked rudely about my boyfriend and I under her breath rather audibly while we were trying to use the self-check-out, but I don't fault the store for that bc most employees are nice. This is the worst Safeway I have ever been too. It is filthy dirty and I have numerous photos taken over the course of 2 years to back it up. The bathrooms are dirtier than any gas station and the Milk/Dairy Cases smell so bad when you open the doors it knocks you over. The head management is rude, arrogant and condescending. I just phoned them regarding chicken breast I bought with a Sale By date 7 days from the date I purchased. That means that chicken is good for 7 days. I don't think so. When I called and asked I was told not to believe everything the government tells you and that if they only put a 2 day sell by date they would have to throw most of their chicken away. I have reported this store numerous times and have never had a response from Safeway Corporate Headquarters. One of the saddest grocery stores that I have visited in the US. read more
