Found two bones, including a rather large one, in a chicken salad sandwich made at Safeway in Damascus Md., on 3/22/18.

You could say I have a bone to pick with this Safeway store. In fact, two bones. This store has better prices than the nearby Weis. And I haven't had too many problems until March 22 when I bought a chicken salad sandwich for my daughter. She ate about half of it, then discovered an almost two-inch-long bone. It's the longest bone I've seen in a 7-inch-long sandwich that should not have any bones in it. I googled to see if anyone had found any larger bones in a chicken salad sandwich, and the largest I found was a puny one-inch-long bone. She continued eating and found a second one, about one-inch long. That's when she stopped eating the rest of the sandwich, which is understandable. I would have stopped after finding the first bone. I have heard of people finding one bone in a chicken salad sandwich before, but two? It seems careless, to say the least. Good thing she caught them without choking on them.

    Storefront at night.

First, the fresh fruit section was small and the fruit was very expensive. So, I deducted a star. But, the store itself was pretty large. I did buy some strawberries and bananas. The surprises came in the ready to eat section. There was a ton of homemade soups, which looked delicious. I thought the prepared salads also looked really tasty. I ended up leaving with a Greek salad, which was fresh and delicious. Lots of feta cheese, lettuce, red peppers, olives and Greek dressing. Another, pleasant surprise was the bread section. There were a lot of freshly made breads. I bought a sourdough bread that was really good. It was hard to choose from the many different selections. The vegetable selections were plentiful and looked really nice. The service was excellent. I was checked out in a jiffy. My grocery helper was so nice and accommodating. The store was clean and well organized. I am sure the quality of food is higher, than a regular supermarket. I would probably return for the prepared foods and breads. But, the cost is pretty high. So, shop carefully.

I still decided to go and buy some from the farm stand and to see if they at least still had some of my favorite products. They did I was happy to grab some up. They have Taharka Bros ice cream and some flavors I had never tried before so I grabbed a couple, don't judge. Not stating if they made it home or not but why would anyone let perfectly good ice cream go to waste on a hot ride home. Come on now, make it make sense lol. If I'm back in the area during harvest time, I'll definitely go back to grab up some fresh produce.

I've also never picked either fruit before, so I was very excited. The farm is huge, with many different sites. We stopped by the farm market first to look at various produce. There were so many fresh fruits and vegetables (if you are lazy and don't want to pick any, you can buy it here). We were very enticed by the strawberry milk (which sadly, I didn't end up buying). I did buy a bag of dry ingredients to make corn chowder for 14.99, which I enjoyed four meals of! First, we went to pick blackberries. I got one of the cartons for 9.99 (there's also a smaller one for 6.99) because I got greedy and wanted lots of blackberries. Unfortunately, it took me at least an hour to fill up my carton with the blackberries that looked ripe since most of the ones we saw looked more like raspberries (bright red, incredibly tart, and most definitely not ready to be picked). Very occasionally, I'd find a really fat and juicy blackberry, which immediately got plucked off the tree and straight into my carton. I tried some of them after picking and a lot of them were pretty sour even though they were ripe. I was quite sad that I labored in vain. Overall, it was a very hot day and with the scarce amount of ripe blackberries, I should have just bought them at the farm market. Finally, one of my friends and I went to pick peaches while the rest of them went to stare at sunflowers. We were done in less than 15 minutes since we picked ~30 for the 19.99 box (the cheapest option). The peaches were great, 2-3 days after picking. I've been enjoying them with other friends so far. If there's anything I'd recommend picking from Larriland, it's the peaches. Fun time at the farm, the prices are a bit steep for picking, and I'm still kind of sad about the lack of sweet blackberries.

But the food is in date and at great prices. Other stores tend to be less than fastidious about removing out of date produce. (I'm looking at you Giant!) Which is fine, things happen but they need to make that clear when entering the store or at least possibly put signs up at the registers. Having to wait in line, go through the checkout process, and then after the debit card is not authorized have the cashier rudely state "you can't use debit" and when asking why she THEN states the system is down. I suggested that they need to have that information posted somewhere so that people are aware coming into the store. Did she even bother to acknowledge my suggestion? Nope didn't even look at me. Again, things happen but it's how they are handled that matters most.

Not very Common for a market!!…read more Everything here is exceptional. I love all the fruit, I literally just ate a peach and was so compelled to write about it. The staff, while is mostly comprised of college age hippies are knowledgeable and actually care. The whole store is very clean and the meat counter while very small screams old school home made!! The sausages looked so good I had to buy some, and after cooking them up with some onions and peppers my neighbors above me who are vegans were peeking as they chewed their grass and had to rethink their decisions on eating food that my food eats. There are fresh made sandwiches that they will press for you and give it that grilled awesomeness that only comes when your doing something special with meat and cheese and good bread pressed with 400 degrees of steel resulting in a sandwich that makes you want to light a subway franchise on fire. Now on my most recent trip, covid is rampantly knocking off people so a lot of the fun stuff has been put away. Normally they have fresh cooked food that you can box up hot and take and eat. The selection ranges from American favorites like loaf of meat and spaghetti to Indian food to soups and salads ( spinach salad is good, the dressing makes it the bomb dot com ) and fresh cookies and breads oh my. ( Public Notice: no lions or tigers ) You will spend more money per item here than Walmart. They don't have as good of a selection as Wegman's. They don't have a coupon app thingy that makes you think your saving money like everyone else. But you will feel like your saving baby seals and once you leave and start to load stuff into your vehicle a rabbit will wink at you in a attempt to say thank you. The lesson here is pay more money for food that tastes like food and not canned crap. Yes, we all like to save money, and that's noble. But there is a time to eat your extra long chili cheese coney ( much love sonic ) and there is a time to bite into a peach and feel like your a little kid again and have wonderful sweet juice roll off your chin and life is once again, is worth living. Stay hungry my friends, - JW
