I went to Safeway this morning. The cashier was good but then I went to customer service and stood there. A few employees acknowledged me and said someone will be right out. That's when I saw sign opens at 9:00am. It was 8:59 am. Another woman came out and asked if I had been helped at 9:02. When I said no she asked someone else and was told she was at lunch.??? I still don't understand if she was at lunch at 9:00 am why someone else didn't cover. I will not return to this Safeway again . There were plenty of employees walking around by the way. . very disappointed and will let others know of my experience. read more

horrible,made a special trip there in the broiling heat and of course the sale items I wanted were no where to be found and the "free" item didn't exist - again. Too painful to do a 5 mile hike on concrete when my limit is 3 different items at safeway at a time due to the constant tendency of being overcharged there. Will continue to drive further away to a smaller store where I do not have to subject my very painful foot to mile of concrete to NOT get what I came for. The deli is not very good. The chicken is all over cooked and leathery. You buy 16 pieces and you might get 2 edible pieces and 14 dog toys. I've made the mistake of buying from this deli about 6 times with the idea that maybe I'm just coming in at the wrong time or something, but there doesn't appear to be a time of day during the week where the deli food isn't completely ruined. It's a shame, because many other Safeways have excellent deli food. Other than that the rest of the store is good, service is friendly, and overall a solid 3 star experience. Just be cautious of the deli. read more

I usually like shopping here with the food choices and deals. But tonight I didn't appreciate when a customer walked up to the door with no mask on. The cart guy just angrily said...just go ahead, hardly anyone wears a mask anyway. It doesn't matter. Umm...it matters to me and I'm sure other people as well would appreciate others taking a role in helping prevent the spread of Covid 19. With an attitude like that, I don't think much of Safeway if they hire apathetic workers who tell people, oh it doesn't matter if you don't wear a mask. read more

Has a bakery, deli, pharmacy, Starbucks, and fresh fruits and veggies. This safeway is very clean and has a gas station outside. Only normally occurring problem is that they get so busy that line wait times can take quite awhile. read more

I made an order to be picked up at 7 pm on 9/6. First thing in the morning, I changed my pickup time to 4 pm. By 3:45, I still not get a text about my order. When I checked, my time was moved back to 7 pm. I'm 43 miles from Safeway so I headed out around 6:15 pm. When I get into Kelso, I got an text that my order was delayed. I have problems seeing after twilight so I called the store to move my order to 9/7. I headed down to Safeway at 3:30 pm. This is a 86 mile round trip for me. I pulled into my spot and let them know I was there. I was told I was third in line there was only one person. Ok, I have to wait. I understand. But when all of the cars before me pulled out and new ones are getting their groceries, I called again. They said they could not find my order. But no one told me they were having a problem. I told them I was coming into the store because I could not trust that they would cancel my order as requested. When I got to customer service, I explained what was happening. They finally put my groceries in my car. Afterward the guy told me he just forgot about me. After driving home 43 miles I realize they never put my frozen food in my car. When I called, they offered to cancel them but I need my groceries! This has cost me a tank of gas and 240 miles on my car plus I didn't get home until 5:40pm. This is why minimum wage should never get high wages. Higher wages need to be earned. Horrible experience in one of my favorite stores. read more

I only stopped here to pee and get a drink at Starbucks on my way to Portland from Seattle. My coffee was actually well made considering I usually get crap drinks at the Starbucks inside of grocery stores, but the bathroom smelled like a cross between garbage dump and a sidewalk outside of the bar (meaning: vomit,) not as if someone had just done their business, but like... it probably always smells like that. It was really putrid and I had to practically hold my breath while I was in there. *breathe through your mouth!* Also; it's the only grocery store in town, so lines can get weirdly long, and rather than everyone waiting in individual lines, the people of Kelso have decided they'll all line up in one big long line and go to the next checker available. Statistically wait times are actually about the same as if everyone went and waited in individual lines, but it's flipping weird. I'll pee somewhere else next time. read more

(Am I really reviewing a grocery store? Oh well.) Anyways, I think that if you wa t to get a fresh handmade cold sandwich, come here and not Subway. I do admit that Safeway is a lot slower at making sandwiches than Subway, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, right? It's about the same price as Subway and I can assure you, their sandwiches taste a million times better. The bread is fluffy, the ingredients are hecka fresh and you don't usually have a condescending employee making your sandwich treating you like an idiot like at Subway. Plus if you're not in a rush, you can eat there and then get your grocery shopping done too. Also, you can pick any drink you want, I mean there's an entire store of drinks. (Just make sure to bring the empty bottle to the cash register to pay for it.) Stop in at Safeway for a sandwich and anything else you need for at home. read more

Mostly I've only been in here to hit the Starbucks or grab a couple quick things, no real grocery shopping. We did stop in one time and grab sandwiches though, and that was interesting. The lady making our sandwiches either hadn't slept in three days or was on something. She literally asked my friend three times if she wanted meat on her sandwich (you know the Vegan crowd in Longview!) and what kind. They claim to have wi-fi though I've never checked it out. Even the Starbucks is a little shaky; one time we went in there and they didn't have any large cups. How does that happen? But I'll give them a break since I had my first Starbucks iced tea at that location : ) read more

Popped in to grab some quickies before heading to the fireworks show. Compared to the Safeways I have been in, this place is friggen huuuuuuge!!! Easily one of the largest, cleanest, well-organized Safeways I have seen. Makes the Astoria / Seaside / Tillamook (all Oregon) locations look very dumpy in comparison. Clatskanie, OR is like a Safeway on hospice......very sad and dying. Staff here weren't out of their way helpful, but that is OK. We were in a hurry and knew what we wanted. read more

Two days ago, I ordered a delivery of food to my friend who is homebound in Kelso. The computer took the information and charged my card. The food never came on day one. When I called Safeway, the woman stated that she specifically called the grocery store and promised the food will be there between 6 and 8 PM tonight. My friend, who just got out of the hospital and as I stated is homebound and had no food in the house, just let me know that the driver, Thomas, called her and said he would not be able to make it tonight for the delivery. What kind of an organization would leave a homebound sick woman without any food in her home? I am her best friend in California and could not get up there to grocery shop for her. Safeway, you should be ashamed of yourself. And I would never recommend this to anyone. read more

Safeway has been a member of Kelso, Washington for over 30 years (At different locations). However, this is also a problem when Tops was the only other grocery store in Kelso it forced Safeway to have a price war for their customers attention, since Tops left Kelso in 2002 Safeway has had the monopoly in Kelso for groceries meaning that the prices have been slowly raising over the last 15 years. In 2002 I recall the price of a double layer cake from the bakery at a price of $7.99, now it's nearing 12 or even 13 dollars, depending on the time of the week. Safeway fails to realize that their competition is winning over their customer base because of the options that they are offering. Walmart, Winco, and Fred Meyers all have installed Self Serve checkout after Safeway led the way in that field, only for them to know take it out and replace them with two "Express isles" which are never open when I go to get some food. There is more I could talk about, it's sad to see that Safeway is unable to see how they are losing the current price wars with their competition. The only reason I honestly go to Safeway anymore is to get my prescriptions filled and for the Sweet and Sour chicken. Other then that, I don't do my business there any longer. :( UPDATE 6/12/2017: About two weeks ago they reinstalled the self serve stations, which makes me scratch my head as to why they took them out to begin with. Hopefully, this is a turn around and maybe price drops will be next. Only time will tell. UPDATE 7/3/2017 On 7/1/2017 I went to Safeway to get some dinner, I was checking out the cold deli and they had a cut up sub sandwich priced at $4.00, I viewed this as a deal considering their all american subs are $6.99 so I grabbed it. I headed over to the checkout and when they scanned the UPC it came back at the price of $16.00, I told them that the sign said $4.00. I refused to purchase the sandwich at 4X the price that was advertised. Be careful, if you go to this branch of Safeway, make sure you visually confirm what the price is it seems that they are trying to trick people into paying extremely more for cheap objects. Pros: Self Serve Checkout Pros: Even though I didn't mention it, the pharmacy is decent. Pros: Courteous workers. Cons: Prices too high. Cons: Not enough open check out lanes. Cons: Major graffiti issue, also major panhandler problem. Can't get off the bus without being asked for cigarettes or money. Cons: The day before a major holiday, it's hell trying to get out of the store in a decent amount of time. Christmas Eve 2016, at 4pm, they had 3 lanes open on top of the self serve checkout, we only had two items and had to go back to the deli to cash out. Very sad. read more

This review is for Garren in Produce. I had a last minute need to find some chocolate covered strawberries for my daughter's birthday. When I asked Garren, he was extremely helpful and said the kitchen was not set up for dipping strawberries since February but that he would see what he could do. When I called back a bit later he had made arrangements to adjust one of the employees schedules and had approved this through the manager to have the strawberries completed by the next morning. The customer service, kindness and helpfulness were incredible. I am so impressed by Garren, the lady he arranged to dip the strawberries, and his manager for approving all this to please the customer. Amazing. It made my day. :) read more

This review is for the pharmacy only. Had two very unsatisfactory experiences with this pharmacy in the past week. I will never use this pharmacy again. On one visit, after waiting in line for 30 minutes, I was told it would be a 2 hour wait before prescription could be filled. My husband just got done having surgery and was sitting in the car in extreme pain! Waiting 2 hours was not an option. Personnel was not helpful at all. "Sorry, my hands are tied." I asked for my prescription back and went to a nearby business where they had the prescription filled in 20 minutes! And they were friendly and helpful. I wish I had gone to the other business first, rather than wasting so much time at Safeway. Never again will I use Safeway for pharmacy services and I would not recommend to anyone. read more

Went here to grab a bite from the deli. I got a 1/4 lb of potato wedges in which the clerk loaded the bag to a pound then mashed them while using tongs to get to the appropriate weight. It was 7:00 pm and the hot food was all burned and dehydrated, c'mon. Furthermore there were no healthy options in the cold case just starch, starch and more starch. Very unsatisfied. read more

In the past, I have frequently gone to the Safeway in Kelso, WA for my grocery needs. Tonight, I went there specifically to get some ice cream for a Father's Day celebration my family is having in a few days. On one of their frozen food end-caps, they had Nestle Drumsticks on sale for $3.99 each. "Great," I think, "two of those should be just what I need." I head to checkout. The two items ring up for $7.99 each. I ask the cashier about this and he tells me that the price will go down once I slide my Rewards card. "Ah, my bad," I say. I slide my Rewards card and the price for each item goes down $1.50 to $6.49. I tell the cashier that the price shown on the end-cap is $3.99. He then tries to convince me that the price now displayed on the screen for each item, $6.49, is the price before the $1.50 is taken off. I calmly explain to the cashier that this is not what his screen is saying. At that point, without a word, he starts walking away from the register. Assuming that he was headed back to check the price himself (regardless of the line of people behind me), I tell him the drumsticks are on the big frozen food end-cap. He returns a moment later and tells me that the displayed price is for the 4 to 5 count box, not the 8 count boxes that I have. I tell him that I understand, but all of the product placed behind the price sign is the same as the boxes that have there at the register. Once again, he tells me that the price is for the 4 to 5 count box. Getting somewhat irritated at that point, I still try to calmly explain to him that Safeway has stocked their end-cap with an item and place a sign with a price directly in front of it. The product he was talking about, the 4 to 5 count box, was nowhere to be seen. The mistake was Safeway's, not mine. As such, they should honor the displayed price for the item. At the very least, they should have admitted they made a mistake and apologized for the inconvenience. The cashier did not do any of these things. Instead, he argued with a customer while a large line formed in his lane. For those interested, I've posted pictures of the end-cap. Ultimately, I decided to just leave the store without the ice cream I came for. I've worked as a cashier before, and I have also worked at customer service in a store. That is not how you should treat a customer, especially when the store has clearly made a mistake. I don't think I will be going back to that Safeway again. read more

This review is for the Kelso Safeway Pharmacy only. We have been customers for four months and every time we have had an interaction with this Pharmacy it has been negative. Today was and will be the last time we interact with this Pharmacy ever I will never recommend it to anyone and I hope that somebody reads this and something changes. My second to last encounter with this Pharmacy the woman at the register put in more than what I was there to pick up when I told her that there was more medicine than what I was there to pick up she said that's alright and messed with something on the computer I signed for the medicines and I left. Today when I went to pick up my son's prescription they said I had already picked it up and then they were extremely snotty with me the young blonde woman behind the counter and she produced a piece of paper saying did somebody Forge your signature. I assured her nobody had Forged my signature and I told her and another lady about my experience the time before and that I had stated that I was not picking up these additional medications and I have been told it will be ok and then these are the medications I need to pick up today unfortunately my son will have to go without this medication due to their screw up which they did Bill our insurance for. The blonde girl behind the counter was extremely rude. Customer service is not their strong suit nobody else tried to make this right they acted like I was a pill Seeker which I am not I was extremely upset I was almost crying. The lady behind the counter suggested I contact my doctor and see if they could give me pills for an emergency until the next time the prescription was ready to be filled in six days. This seems absurd to me since I could not picked up the original prescription to begin with their system is obviously flawed since I do not have to scan every single prescription that goes out they just push the button on their computer and it seems like something should be changed in this Pharmacy it is inaccurate and they are committing fraud. Beyond the fact that the customer service is extremely lacking. I will never return to this Pharmacy. read more
