Greetings to All!! Today's Safeway visit in Idaho Springs was most pleasurable due to two employees. The pharmacist on duty @ 12:00 today, October 3rd, was very helpful, kind, & enjoyable!! This is my neighborhood grocery store and every time I come here I feel welcomed but I wanted to give some recognition to SUDA for always going above and beyond for me. I go to this Safeway so often because Idaho Springs is a small town in a pretty remote area & they almost always have what I need. If they're out of what I need they've got something to replace it. I get that they're not able to have EVERYTHING ALWAYS. I mean, the stores in town right now aren't even able to keep their shelves stocked. Two cashiers on a busy Thursday night. Spent 30 minutes in line. Should have just walked out.

We had just visited this location and all I can really say is DO NOT GO HERE. The service is HORRIBLE along with the people around the area!! We had my 2 year old nephew in the store with us and he stopped at the balloons because what kid doesn't like balloons?! After awhile he decided to throw a fit once it was time to continue shopping. A few minutes later a worker (I'm assuming the manager) had came over to where my cousin and nephew were, got RIGHT in my nephew's face saying " You're not allowed to cry in my store" in like a SERIOUS tone. We didn't say anything because of how shocked we were since nobody had spoken to him like that before. My mom was in the bathroom at the time while all of this was going down, so we didn't have an adult with us at the time but once she was done, My nephew wanted the balloon, so we got him the balloon, after we were about to continue walking, the same lady came around the corner really fast and asked my mom "Are you going to be buying that?!" We didn't want to cause a problem so we just said yes and left. While shopping, a really short guy that was an employee was basically following us the whole time. (we are also assuming the same exact lady from before sent him). Fast forward to as we were leaving, a guy with purple hair and a blue flannel shirt, outside of the liquor store, basically was giving us a thumbs down, booing, and giving us the "L" while we were driving away. And I know this isn't the store's fault but this little "town" is extremely rude!! Definitely not visiting again!! read more

I'm doing countdown for kickoff for the super bowl - getting the celery cut, the carrots sliced, the wings....oh crap - the frozen wings we bought last week at Safeway EXPIRED 3 weeks ago!!! Out the door I go back to Safeway to see if they had any more - they did, but they were ALL EXPIRED!! So off to Bergen Park King Soopers I go for some frozen wings that had 10 good months left. How long were expired frozen wings in the Safeway Freezer? According to the date of manufacture on the package they were in there for close to THREE YEARS!!! Meat and fruit selection is always low or not stocked, the line is always long with one cashier working.

It is the only store in town, but who the hell runs this place. On any given shopping day I would say 20% of the product (and I have to check each one) is expired or bad. To the point I just take them off the shelf and leave them in the aisle so some other individual doesn't buy expired food. YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE SOMEONE SICK! Examples of things that have been out of date or simply rotten from the last 6 mo: - Lemon juice concentrate (dude that stuff lasts for years). It was over a year past due. - Apples I just bought (rotten) Darn those were like a buck a piece. - Light Ranch Salad dressing, expired. Again that stuff lasts forever. - Dairy is constantly expired. Milk, 1/2 and 1/2, and whipping cream. - Yogurt? Well you better look hard. - Frozen vegetables. Yep expired. - Pace Salsa, expired. - Cheese. Be weary on dates. - Dried nuts, they were 7 months past date. - Cold Medicine. Yep expired. That could be dangerous. - Canned Veg and Soups you have to always look, constantly getting bad stuff. This place is more Brooklyn Bodega then Grocery store and it forces us to drive up to King Soopers (Kroger) all the time. All a Manager would have to do is send a courtesy clerk through the store for a day and check merchandise. They either don't care or are grossly negligent. Again we have a lot of Seniors in town who may not be as diligent. One case of botulism could be DEADLY. Come on Safeway. Care enough about your community to give us food that won't make us sick. The whole town is begging you! On a side note, the people are always friendly. read more

Never more than one line open (ok, ok, maybe twice on a holiday weekend there are two or three checkout lines open), so it always takes forever to check out. Check your own items for dates -- we have unwittingly left with things past their sell-by date more than once. Good luck finding the sale items or standard butcher items -- seems they don't like to stock them often. I will say the pharmacist was friendly when we needed a particular item, but beyond that, steer clear if you can help it. read more

This store is pretty well stocked. It would be nice to have more wild caught frozen fish options and organic chicken, but selection is pretty decent considering the location of the store. On the way to the mountains, there are only a few places to get a few snacks for the road or your next picnic lunch. On I-25 west, there are even fewer. This Safeway, while nothing special, offers all the basics and has easy access back to I-25 once your spree is complete. There are also the typical mountain hippie-type characters working behind the cash register, so you are guaranteed a bit of entertainment during your visit. Perfect for short visits, expensive if you end up with a cart full. read more

It's tough living in a small town with only one grocery option. Safeway is it for us and it is a saving grace. My favorite is our meat department, Ken really knows what he is doing. He is always very helpful with any questions I have. The department is always well stocked and easy to navigate. This Safeway produce department is very well stocked, there have always been fresh fruits and vegetables with organic options available. I'm forced to pay extra for organic by the food industry because of the pesticides used on non organic options. My mouth itches and blisters and I have digestive issues when I select and eat non organic foods even when I wash and dry them thoroughly. I really appreciate the selection options. Being a mountain town the freshness is great as I know it must take longer for food to be delivered here than in the larger cities. I've never not found what I'm looking for to make a meal. The non perishable items are beyond expected as well. The options cater to hikers and backpackers as many products are offered in both large packages and smaller trail friendly packages. The staff has always been friendly and helpful to me. Sometimes the lines are about 4-5 people waiting but they move very quickly. It must be hard to staff a store in a small town such as Idaho Springs however I feel they do a great job all things considered. There's even a small garden section with beautiful house plants and succulents in nice pots and containers. I'm happy to have this store as such a close shopping center. read more

Went through there about an hour ago. The cashier didn't hand us all of our bags. And nobody is answering their phone. I can assume an honest mistake, but kind of sucks since we needed those items and now have to drive back to a different town to buy the same items again. Perhaps the cashier was distracted by the attitude she was giving me over a price adjustment based on what the pharmacist told us to relay to them. The difficulties I discussed in my earlier review happened before Chris was the deli manager, but I did get to know Chris at the time and feel Safeway made a great move in making Chris the deli manager! At 5:00 PM on a Sunday, there was 1 checkout line open. Approximately 10 to 15 people were waiting. This was unfortunate as I did actually find everything I wanted to purchase. I ended up leaving everything there since I did not have 30 minutes to wait in a checkout line. There is no excuse for this level of service. It is a waste of everyone's time. This grocery store is so bad. Do yourself a favor and go to the Georgetown Market or Bergen Park for your groceries instead. Always understaffed, so the workers are stressed and grumpy, and more often than not, there's only one checkout line open and customers pouring into the aisles waiting to check out. The management clearly does not care. You don't have to look hard to find food that's gone bad (moldy pizzas et cetera) or expired. Good luck getting out of there without overcharges from the posted and advertised prices, and you'll definitely get Monopoly trash pushed on you! I'd give zero stars if that was an option. This is the first negative yelp review I've ever created, but I just left this dump because once again, the solitary open checkout line was a dozen people long while employees and managers are doing whatever they can to avoid interaction with customers, leaving the elderly checker to deal with the masses of irritated locals and tourists. Safeway has done a fine job of walking that fine line between lcal grocery and tourist stop for years. I don't know about the other reviewers, but I've found the produce to be fresh, the prices fair and the staff excellent. They do what they do and make it possible for me to get what I need locally at a good price. I appreciate that. read more
