I have shopped at Safeways in other cities for decades. Golden, what's up? Produce:0 Literally moldy. The manager told me to let the produce guy know, but this is beyond a one-time event. It is a pattern. Pharmacy:5 Checkout: mixed. The nosey person is overly "friendly" but is trying. She seems lonely and may not be coachable. Overall service: 3 Some of the managers seem to try, but they need some corporate support around service and produce. They are always out of their sale items or only have one of them left and they never have enough staff. Those who are doing the stocking really don't care to go look to see if there is anything in the back. Oftentimes, I have come home with mismarked food, expired and/or rotten food, and I don't even try to buy meat or seafood there. I will buy chicken, but only fresh and before the sell by date. Their 1/2&1/2 almost always goes bad before the sell by date, too. The pharmacy is great, but even the most basic of household supplies can be missing or never sold there. I know a lot of the people who work there and I like most all of them, but someone way high up just thinks they can make it by selling to the poor college folks, which offends me. I have supported them for over 38 years and they still don't care. This all has gone on for years and I guess I will just have to bite the bullet and fight traffic to head elsewhere. Golden wants us all to get rid of our gas vehicles, but how can we when the stores won't sell us what we need and we have to go searching in Lakewood or even further. read more

There is no rhyme or reason for how the store is organized and their shelves are stocked with EXPIRED FOOD, over a month expired! I purchased on 5/19 a box of Mac n cheese that I came home to see it expired MARCH 30 2026. OVER A MONTH AGO! gross how much other stuff is on the shelves that's old???? I have had worse customer service here than I have anywhere else. I was shopping at Safeway yesterday and left my headphones at a register. I called the next day to ask if they had any headphones at the lost and found and they confirmed they had my Bose headphones. I come in around 9 pm asking for it and the guy working at the self checkout tells me they don't have it. He 'calls' his manager and his manager also says there were no headphones. I tried explaining that I called earlier, however he refused to check and kept telling me to just write my phone number down. After having to insist having the manager come over, I was met with a lot of bad attitude. He stated they didn't have it, and after having him go back and check for my headphones TWICE, he suddenly "found" them and handed it to me. Genuinely no clue what is going on with the employees who work there at night. Both the manager (Mike) and cashier (glasses, tall, brown hair) were absolutely terrible to interact with. read more

Wow. This store seems to always be on the brink of disaster. It's hard to understand how it stays in business in such a fantastic neighborhood. Tonight the woman manager physically turned her back on me when I went to ask about the location of something. So I walked over to the next employee who seemed to be doing nothing, and I as I approached him, the same manager interrupted me to give him an on the spot correction. It embarrassed both her employee and me. And I still couldn't find what I was looking for. Maybe.... Take your employee to an office to correct him. Or at the very least make sure the customer's needs are addressed first. Weird. The younger employees at this store seem wonderful and helpful. The older ones (including management) could use a little adjustment. read more

Better from when I wrote my last review years ago. I'd give them 5 stars but what really docks two stars is their Starbucks. Ok I get it working sucks. Boo hoo it's called a job not a free money handout. The Safeway Starbucks girl was a nightmare. (long curly hair and loooong eyelashes, very young) I asked Safeway staff to call someone to the Starbucks counter over and over. Another woman in line also had to beg Safeway workers to get someone at the counter. Line was standing there for about ten min waiting. I used the Safeway Starbucks app for the $2 grande drink, clipped that deal. This girl finally came and was such a jerk. Her attitude was fire-worthy. She was insanely rude. Then on top of that the mocha frapp was a joke. It was basically milk blended with ice. No chocolate. No sweetness. Are you kidding me? Learn how to do your job even with a fake smile. The rest of us do. I'm starting to avoid cashiers or workers under age 25 because their work ethic (mostly not always) is disgusting. Safeway looks bad with workers like her. I fixed my frapp at home so I saved the drink but shouldn't need to fix a drink that's worth $6. Do better. This is why people are sick of tipping. Tip for what? Blended milk? read more

SECOND EDIT: Just found that the yogurt we bought from here expired February 4. YOGURT! This isn't a stale box of crackers, its a dairy product that will make someone sick. Thank god we knew to double check now after the wellness drink before she tasted whatever rotten yogurt tastes like. Does this place even have a management? I just moved to town, so my partner and I did our first grocery run in town at the King Soopers after reading the reviews about Safeway. But then we decided we better give Safeway a shot because people are usually harsh towards Safeways. I don't know, it's like a time warp in there. I've been to a lot of Safeways around the country and they're usually in better shape. This one is just in disarray. I included two photos which feature some areas in need of attention. Lots of things were stocked in a way that was like someone rummaged through everything and didn't reset it. I know I know what a privilege to expect a neat shelf right? Safeway GOLDEN I like, but its more for Hubs liking. When we came to this SAFEWAY, Golden location, the first words that came out from Hubs mouth were, Man, they indeed bring up their game aka, the store was indeed kept clean. I guess the last time we ever came to any SAFEWAY store was like way back in 2005. That was many moons/years ago. Since I am unfamiliar with this SAFEWAY, this was what I could recall. On the very RIGHT wing of this store, is where you can find the BREADs, DONUTS department. There is also a STARBUCKS inside this Safeway. On the LEFT Wing of this store, is where you can find the FRUITS and COLD stuffs, like SEAFOOD, MEATS what nots. The rest I cant really recall coz we were in a hurry to get back home. The layout of this SAFEWAY, is slightly "confusing" to me but oh well. Boy indeed we are glad, to be in this SAFEWAY in case we need stuffs normally grocery items or snacks that we cant get @ King Soopers etc etc. We managed to get what we need for the following morning we need for work etc etc. Our latest venture to this SAFEWAY Golden, was on a Tuesday Evening of March 27th 2012. I am not a fan of the Safeway/Albertsons stores for several reasons and this location is NOT an exception. I live near this location and recently I was given a $5 gift card so I decided to pick up a few things. Upon entering, I got the sense that the store was dirty, I also sensed an indescribable odor. I couldn't find something I needed and asked the only employee I could find if he could direct me to what I was looking for, he shrugged. I finally found it, after walking up and down the aisles. Furthermore, the produce appeared to be old and expensive. There was only one checkout open so I waited rather than checking myself out. The cashier was not at all welcoming and when she finished, she did not give me my $10 change. When I brought this to her attention, she haphazardly apologized. I grew up going to a Safeway store, so I know them well. Came here after a tour for some hotel room essentials. Everything was pretty easy to find and even more so customer service was great. The only thing I had an issue with was buying stamps. I did not want to buy the booklet, so I bought them per piece. The staff member was so certain that they would not adhere to the piece of paper. Annoying enough they did and therefore I did not have much adhesive left to get them to stick to my envelope. Other than that, I enjoyed shopping at this store again. read more

This store is just sad. I was at this store just after 9pm this evening. This was my first time there in well over three years, I nornally go to a store much closer to my house. I was passing by and knew they were having a good sale on eggs so I stopped in to get them. I walked in and immediately thought 'wow this place is dirty and makes the K Mart in Arvada that closed last year look nice.' I went over to the eggs and was looking for the ones that were on special, an online coupon I had to look for so I was standing there awhile. There was one employee sweeping (shockingly) and he didn't ask if I needed help. He either was talking on a Bluetooth or to himself, I wasn't sure which one but he was talking to someone and no one else was around. The cashier had zero personality, she didn't even bother trying to smile. She was too busy talking to the self checkout cashier even though I attepmted to be friendly and ask what she did for the 4th. The bagger, I guess is what this man was that actually did nothing, was standing at the end of the register next to the one I was at. He was hacking (not coughing, there is a BIG difference) he looked like he has not showed this year and smelled like it as well. If I lived by this store, I would drive the few blocks over to King Soopers or Vitamin Cottage...anywhere else! read more

Service here is consistently frustrating. Check out cashiers are nosy or inappropriate, giving unsolicited advice about how to raise my kids or her political views. The front end manager took away and held all of my groceries (like a self proclaimed law enforcement officer) until I showed ID (I'm 42) to prove I'm 18 to buy children's cold medicine and then wouldn't give me my receipt. No professionalism here at all. Not shopping here any more after 7 frustrating years of bad service (for both my husband and I) even though it's close to my house. Their pharmacy staff are awesome, and I held on this long because of them, but I honestly can't take it anymore. I'm done. read more

They have all the basics like fresh fruit and veggies, frozen food, baking supplies, cooking supplies, a deli, etc. I've noticed their meat is a little pricier than King Soopers, but it's conveniently close to campus. read more

Safeway pharmacy is the worst I've ever been to. They've never got my prescriptions done correctly nor on time. If you call in advance to make sure the prescriptions are there they act like you are an inconvenience to them. They don't answer the phone in a timely manner or else put you on hold and disconnect you. They always have an excuse as to why they screwed up your prescriptions. read more

Here is a short list of things that have made my experiences less than: Poor selection Shabby fruit and veggies (brown and wilting) Long lines No checkout clerks, self scan only No clerk at self checkout (good luck getting approval for that coupon) Higher prices than competition Awful selection Deli closing early Not open 24hrs Shitty selection (really trying to send this point home) Despite this store being the closest to our home, my shopping experience is consistently, over years of shopping, much more satisfying and more cost effective at King Soopers. This place has a pharmacy so that worked out great for us. Not a far walk from downtown Golden either.

This is the only major grocery store in Golden proper, but I would advice everyone to avoid it as much as possible. This is a smaller store than most Safeway's, and their selection suffers accordingly. They're prices, while being comparable to other Safeway stores, are higher than King-Soopers/Walmart. However, all of that pails in comparison to my biggest complaint... No matter what time of the day is, the wait for the checkout lines will always exceed 10-15 minutes. They only have a maximum of 3 lines open at any given time and their personnel are some of the slowest I have ever seen. They will take time to personally go get forms/applications for customers, while they have a massive line waiting. Since this store doesn't have any self-checkout lines, there are no way to go quickly by yourself and therefore bypass the frustratingly slow checkers. As a result, I recommend that people only go to Safeway for quick purchases and save your massive trips for a more efficient and better stocked store. read more

Due to the proximity to my home, I wish this Safeway was better. They seem to be running on a shoestring budget, there are too few employees staffing the store at all times. I frequently find products that are expired (cheese last time, eggs today, etc.). The checkout lines for self-serve and full-serve are backed up and slow unless the store is empty. On another note, the store is never fully stocked. Usually it seems like it was picked over before a hurricane. I expect to find only 60-70% of the items I am searching for. Over the 5 years I've lived here, this store has continued to go down hill. Whether it is poor management or they have just given up, it is a guaranteed disgusting and frustrating experience every time. Do yourself a huge favor. Take an extra minute and go up the road to King Soopers, much better experience. read more

They get pretty surly at closing time, don't delay or else you'll get the cold stare-down! This place is pretty stocked, although the cheddar jalepeno bagels are popular and tend to go pretty quick. I'm a fan, but I guess I'm not the only one. The organic aisle could be a little more impressive, but I don't spend too much time there anyway. Also, the veggies are a laid out strangely, some are kept in the fridge and others are kept along the wall - where are the peas? Oh, they're not fresh, they're bagged. As long as someone is there to help me, I'm fine. The lady at Starbucks usually judges me because I like super-sweet drinks, but she's just a little lady looking out for my young arteries.
