We recently moved to the area and have made many stops at Safeway in the short time we've been here. We never had issue with parking, carts were sanitized and ready for use, employees and customers were all wearing masks and social distancing was respected by employees and patrons. Aisles were clean and shelves stocked. Produce was fresh and fully stocked. Not a bad selection either. I found everything I needed in all my visits. Safeway was a God send as we settled into the new house and got familiar with the area. Employees were always helpful and welcoming. My husband, who rarely goes grocery shopping with me, even noticed the great customer service. read more

If I could give this Safeway a ZERO score, I would. I went into the store to shop and saw rotten avacados that were even past the point of guacamole. The hamburger is so overpriced. This is just a couple of examples, and this isn't the first time that I've seen Safeway, who states that their quality is second to none, have the worst products. DO BETTER. read more

On this visit I was most interested in the $5 Friday specials. I like to research which items I will purchase prior to visiting. The deli was busy. The chicken is always a hit so there's usually a wait. I was surprised my roasted chicken selection was available. They also had the coleslaw. There were no potatoes which I understood however, it they were in the processing of replenishing, it would have been nice if the counter person mentioned it. Next I visited the bakery for the advertised cake. There was only two left so not too much of a selection but I picked one as I really wanted this cake. I went to check out and the chicken and coleslaw calculated correctly however the cake did not. I involved the teller since I was at the self check out and she came over to assist but wasn't sure about the price either. She went to check the bakery and came back and said the cake was in the wrong location but would still offer the sale price. I mentioned the advertisement for $5 Friday at which time she went to customer service to check the paper. I helped her to locate the ad and she fair about it. Due to the length of time waiting, she offered me the cake due to the lengthy checkout process. In my eyes, this was a great example of customer service. I certainly appreciated it and it made me feel that customer service does still exist. read more

This Safeway is the nearest to my house so I always shop here. Usually I have no complaints but the cashier in the 15 items or less lane was so rude and unfriendly I had to say something. My receipt says that his name was Landon. I said hello and thank you and goodbye and he just grunted at me and looked completely pissed that he had to be there working at all. He was also playing a game or doing something on his phone while he was waiting for my receipt to print out. This happened today 10/4/2023 5:23 pm. That cashier should be fired or he should quit and get a job he likes because being a cashier at Safeway Is definitely not the job for him. read more

I have always liked this Safeway, but I found that every single bottle of the half-dozen Roederer Estate Brut I bought last September were "heat-treated" to the point of undrinkability. I presume that they may have had issues with shipping or storage, but a bottle of the same that I bought at a Safeway in Peoria AZ two days prior to my purchases here was fine, and the temperatures there were WAY hotter than in northern California. The staff here were very nice to me, and I really hate to put out the single star, but maybe they can get this issue worked out. read more

Stopped here for some snacks on our way east after a show in the City. One checkstand had a light on, but when we got up there we saw someone had ripped some cardboard off a box and written, "back at 1:15" and stuck it to the counter thing. It wasn't even 1 yet. We and other shoppers walked around the store but couldn't find a single person working there. We still had over an hour to drive and just wasted our time. Properly staff your store or close earlier! Otherwise, standard Safeway. Seemed clean, has the same stuff that you expect at Safeway. All owned by 1-3 companies, none very interesting. It's not my favorite. read more

Another bad bakery experience at Safeway. Last year was Vacaville Safeway Bakery this year thought let me stay local. Showed up to order cake young girl took our order she asked us what size, what kind of cake, what kind of filling, what kind of frosting. We selected a cake out of the book that was colorful our total was $45. Showed up to pick it up did not look anything like the picture at all had to ask for them to decorate it UNACCEPTABLE then the cake was super thin. I questioned it and they said Carrot Cake has no filling we were told it did apparently a few of the cakes dont. This cake was in no way worth $45. Now lets discuss how it tasted absolutely disgusting!!!! We threw it out went to costco and got a carrot cake there for a fraction. My main issue is how i was treated in the bakery the customer service was UNACCEPTABLE the manager i dealt with you could tell was annoyed i was complaining. Im sorry but train your staff appropriately or have a cheat sheet for them so they can inform customers. $45 for a half sheet of dry cake no decorations is just not ok. She said well ill give you the cake for $20 see i already paid never again cause if i hadnt paid i would have walked away. I am reviewing my overall experience at my local Safeway. Every time I go to my local grocery store (I have no other option, as this is the only grocery store near me.. unless I wanna drive a 15 minute drive to another grocery store) Products: Their produce area is a hit or miss in being fully stocked. One day, I was planning dinner for a few of my friends and needed to buy ready packed salads. As soon as I went to the bagged salad section, there was nothing stocked and it was 95% completely empty. There was no employee around for me to ask for help and see if they had any inventory in the back. Or even ask, why is it so empty? Meat/Poultry Section: The butchers are always willing to help whenever I need to grab things out of the displayed case. Even when they are stocking, they always ask if I need any help. Deli Area: This review is specifically for the sandwich area. Whenever I order a breakfast sandwich, they are ALWAYS out of stock on bread selections. So that makes your bread options very slim. Also, they are not the best at customer service. It is ALWAYS a hit or miss on the employees that work here. The employees that I encounter area only there to make your sandwich and be on your way. They don't want to converse with you. They just make your sandwich and tell you to go the cashiers, since they don't have time to ring you up at the Deli department. Fried Food Area: Whenever I am craving for some JOJO's aka Potatoe Wedges, about 80% of the time they do not have it on hand. The workers would always say, "Oh! We didn't kept shipment in today for JOJOS" To me, why is it every time I go there, thats what they always say. Its kinda hard to believe that Safeway never has a stock of potato wedges, specially when its one of their popular items. The only two workers that have been helpful and always provided me with excellent customer service was Israel and Jessica. Floral Area: There is rarely anyone at this area. AND I feel like their floral arrangements are overpriced. Most of the time, the flowers are welting and Safeway will price them at retail price. Checkstand/Cash Lanes: In my 10 years of going to this Safeway, there is a lack of cashiers. Lines are ridiculously long, doesn't matter what time of day you go. One day I had to pick up donuts for my work and it was 7a in the morning and there were two cashiers. One cashier was stocking, while the other cashier was ringing up other customers. The cashier that was ringing up had to call for back up. Don't try going to this Safeway on a Sunday afternoon. Everyone is preparing for the week ahead and there are not enough cashiers to ring everyone up. I can recall waiting 30 minutes, one time, at the fast lane. All I had was to buy dessert. I was bringing it over for a friends gathering. Too bad Costco, which was across the street from this Safeway, was closed. Overall, if there was another grocery store in my community, I would most likely choose that store over this store. But, since this grocery store is convenient, I have no choice. Once customer service starts to improve, have more cashiers, and more produce on hand, then Ill consider updating this review. read more

It's open twenty four hours a day seven days a week which is really cool for life's just in case and personal emergency "I need it now" moments! The folks here were nice, friendly and helpful. I'm here almost daily because of its location. What I would give for a Fresh&Easy, Winco, Andronicos, or Raley's to be here instead. There are never enough cashiers after 6:30pm, which is crazy, given how many of their customers are commuters. I regularly waste 20 to 25 minutes waiting for the checkout. I'm sick and tired of having to bag my own groceries... this isn't Winco and I'm paying Safeway prices so I *don't* have to. Today I had one item in express; the woman in front of me had 22 and asked for cigarettes. The cashier assured her it was fine that she was in the express lane, which had a line. When I asked the cashier why it was okay, she said, "we only have one cashier until 10am so everyone is trained just to come to this lane." Give me a break! I walk with my co worker everyday we usually get a quick lunch but today we decided to pickup lunch and get a gift for our AA. So we grab the gift cards and head over to the flowers .. great display we took a photo of a few display flowers for our coworkers to send back at work. We were approached by one of the florist asking did we need any assistance we said no and she proceeded to inform me that we couldn't take pictures of the displays because they have hate groups towards Safeway on Facebook.. i told her that we come in everyday we are shopping for Admin day. She tells that we can't take pic of the displays just the individual displays .. which is the same thing but more pic. Then she still talking and talking about the issue. As an African American woman I've been exposed to more than i like to discuss when it comes to being treated and lied to about issues that would not be addressed to someone of a different race. wow- what happened to safeway? So far, three of four deliveries were late. One was five hours late. They stuck smoked salmon that had expired a week ago into my shopping list, and it was ROTTEN and nasty. Two weeks in a row items were charged but not included. The only good thing is that they refund quickly and easily. But, sorry, Safeway, I can't do it any longer. Raley's is much better in delivery and shopping service. read more

Unsafe for patrons due to the high crime rate in an otherwise nice neighborhood. The lines are long and not enough registers open. Goods are overpriced and there's really no upside except it's the only grocery store closest to the Cordelia/ Green Valley Area. I avoid going to Safeway and often drive further out. read more

The worst Safeway I've ever visited. Items in seasonal aisle are never in their correct spot. I bought a '$3' chocolate bunny that ended up being $9.99. Then they would not even accept a return. I waited in line to get a sandwich with my girlfriend, and we had been there for quite some time so like anyone would do we started looking at some of the nick nacks they had on display and inched closer towards the cash register. A lady walked in behind us and started waiting after we had been there for about ten minutes. Finally the people come over to "help" and quite literally walked pass us to help the person who got there after us. For how hungry I was I'm sure a vein bulged out of my head and I turned a few shades of red, because I'm ignored in almost every aspect of my life as it is. Quite frankly being ignored when I'm hungry is where I draw the line. I cursed a few times and settled with grabbing some pre made snack sandwiches. Those are probably tasty, but I'm not home yet. In and out of this store for quite some time service is always great one of your clerks James is super nice with a great personality another Carlo is another nice guy always greets my wife and I everyone so friendly and helpful except one young individual cashier I have dealt with him only three times and he lacks in people skills he won't greet us he never smiles and after my purchase he won't say Thanks today there was nobody in his line and my wife went to him I told her not to but we were running late so I agreed when I showed him my rewards card he scanned it and didn't say hello because he was too busy looking at some video on his phone then he began scanning our items he did a sloppy job at that to he has Super Chip on his shoulder and a look on his face that he's mad about something and doesn't want to be there at the store maybe management needs to train him again I don't like to be treated like that especially when the price of groceries are so high a simple Hello and a Thanks goes a long way in my book and there are other grocery stores down the road so I hope the manager has a long talk with this cashier who's name starts with L read more

I love this Safeway. The staff are almost all so friendly had helpful. It's a bit smaller and does not carry some items other Safeway's have and they did stop carrying quite a few things when the change of ownership happened, but it is generally well stocked (outside of all the pandemic craziness now). Worst stock, worst lines, moldy/expired/dried out food. DISGUSTING! The fact that this is the ONLY grocery store around here means they don't care about anything. Only 2 cashiers at all tomes, cistomers be damned. And, they are now no longer 24 hours?! Neither is CVS, so if we have an urgent need in the middle of the night, we now have to hit the freeway. Screw this place. They are always out of stock of things we need (like baby formula). It has been WEEKS AND WEEKS! I asked Customer Service what was going on, their answer was literally "I don't know, maybe a supplier problem?" Target, Babies R Us, and all the Safeways in Concord/Walnut Creek always have it fully stocked. Just not our local store. She said "we can special order it for you". Uh, if I wanted to order it, I'd Amazon Prime it. The whole damn point of running to your local store for it is YOU NEED IT NOW. Had to drive to Target to get it. I went to get a deli sandwich on Sunday. The Asian woman (the sushi maker woman) was making sandwiches. I looked in the counter, all the sliced cheese was dried out with edges curled up! I pointed it out to her & she said "it's just on top", and proceeded to BREAK OFF the dried out part! Told her NO THANKS! Be careful with their cheese in the refrigerated section too, have had mold a few times Bought a box of Entenmanns donuts for the kids, got it home to find it infested with ants. Disgusting. Went to restock my supply of Luna Bars...they had a mixture in a box on the shelf of new ones & ones that expired LAST YEAR. I pointed it out to a girl stocking the shelf right next to me. She apologized & took it, sayjng how awful it was. The following week they were STILL on the damn shelf. It's now such a traffic mess to get here, and when you do, the store is a mess in so many ways. We're doing our shopping elsewhere now. Time for some damn competition around here!! read more

Worst Safeway I have ever been to. The only decent interactions I've had at this store were with the butcher, and the ladies working the deli. All the cashiers, and whoever you have working customer service are horribly rude and unhelpful. Went to cash a check today and the lady practically snatched it out my hand saying it couldn't be cashed, I've had a cashier not allow me change the number for my rewards (my partner accident mistyped one number) which made me miss out on a $300 trip worth of rewards because she "already scanned a couple of items," another cashier is rude to me every time the only words in his vocabulary being "bag" and "receipt" with a constant stank face like he'd rather be anywhere else, another cashier that didn't ring up a single item of mine until they were ALL on the belt so he could stare at me then give me a massive attitude because his lane was express only (there were only 2 cashiers working and his lane was open. I truly didn't notice), and these were all separate instances with different people in only the span of a month. I try to get in an out of this store without speaking to a soul now. I'm not quite sure what's in this locations air that makes everyone so freaking cranky. Being a Safeway cashier seems like the worst job in the world by the cadence of these people. read more

They had an ad out for crab, the store never received any so another Manager offered a rain check. She was so upset about giving me one because she was told earlier that no rain checks would be given. This store never received crab so the other manager thought a rain check was the right thing to do. Well, this didn't sit well with Yvette. What really got me was her lack of self control. She made it extremely uncomfortable and obvious that she was NOT happy about the other managers decision. I thought all Safeways/Von's had either Starbucks or Jamba Juice Inside :( btw it's so weird for me to call it Safeway now that I moved back to NorCal ha ha it's been Von's for me for so long! Went to the deli to place an order for a sandwich during my lunch time. Not only was the lady making my sandwich rude and brief, but she also made my sandwich wrong and was not clean at all. Used the same utensil (used for other customers) to spread the mustard on my sandwich and instead of tossing the plastic utensil or washing it she threw it back in the sauce pan. Not clean or sanitary in anyway. Talk about cross contamination. Absolutely disgusting. read more

This is a beautiful location in the plaza right off the freeway (80). I came in 8pm on a Wednesday night and saw a few workers there... Walked right past me in fact.. hmm.. I guess they don't greet you here.. No matter. I go around looking for some engine oil because I need it.. and look and look.. and well i can't find it. But nobody offers to help or anything.. ooook.. So I grab a drink because I'm parched and head for the checkout stand. Where did they go? grrrr.. oh here's someone. A young man... who also doesn't say hello or stop his conversation about whatever it is that must be so important... rings me up and hands me my stuff.. That's it! What, the, heck. Maybe I came on a bad night? But there's no excuse. Safeway employees should be held to the utmost in Customer Service Standards. I guess I'm too spoiled to expect a greeting and an offer to help find something. and to expect to be thanked and have my change counted back to me and asked if I need help out.. even though I always say no and thank you... Really amazing sushi that is made fresh in-store. As a Washingtonian, we often have machine made sushi in our stores with bland tasting rice and indifferent preparation. Here they make really good rolls at amazingly fair prices. The sushi rice, and I'm all about the rice, is pretty decent with a sweet-tangy taste of good sushi rice. The types of rolls are amazing too with several featuring fresh crab! You can't really get to-order sushi, just what they make, but what they make is amazing! read more
