This is a review for the bakery at Safeway. We used Safeway to make our wedding cake and cupcakes for 100 of our guests and it turned out fabulous! We would have never thought about using Safeway, but after seeing them at the Seattle wedding show and trying their samples, it was a definite must! There cake is not too sweet and super moist and they have the ability to customize pretty much any flavor or any style you want, without adding a ton of extra money to the bottom line. Susan, who works in their bakery is a must-see person. We actually live in Everett, but were recommended by several Safeway employees that Susan in Bellevue is the best - and they were right! We came in for a cake testing and then came up with 4 customized cupcake flavors (Lemon Lavender, Blueberries & Cream, Chocolate Truffle and Raspberries & Cream) and a flavor for the top cutting cake (White cake with Strawberries). I'm a huge fan of lavender, and Susan worked with me to create the custom lemon lavender flavor that was out of this world! Keeping costs low was also a priority for me, since I was a bride on a budget, and Susan worked with me, to help cut costs, which meant I provided my own cupcake wrappers, decorations and any special flavor ingredients - which was super easy to do! We even had them deliver all the cupcakes and cake, and set them up for us at our reception venue in Seattle, and everything went off without a hitch! During the past 3 visits to my hometown, I have been staying in Bellevue. This Safeway is very convenient for me to walk from my hotel to this grocery store. Employees are helpful only when you ask for help. A Starbucks is inside as well as hot food from their deli or the Chinese fast food. Plenty of choices for alcoholic beverages and fresh fruit or vegetables at a reasonable price. The parking is free but located in an apartment complex. The self check stations are best to use if yiu are in a major hurry. If you don't have a bar code, you can type in what you have, a picture along with price appears. Watch out for the high school skate boarders who hang out on Friday nights near the side of the store. read more

I love my neighborhood Safeway! Friday wine tastings, Starbucks cafe and conveniently located by my place! Recently they reorganized the aisles which took a bit of adjustment but now I'm back to knowing where everything is, which makes for a quick trip every time! I love their bakery - I recently got my red velvet cake from there and it was beautiful and more importantly, delicious! The bagels and bread loaves have also been fresh and a very good price every time. There's also a full-service deli, sushi bar, ice cream counter, florist, butcher and large wine/liquor selection. The breakfast burritos from the deli are a go-to for us, as they are cheap, fast and tasty. My favorite time of week to visit this store is during their complimentary Friday evening wine tastings, where they generally feature a couple white and red wines and serve cheese & bread. I'm able to find most things at this store. The only item I haven't been able to find is pistachio oil, which my hubby recently discovered and likes. During Girl Scout cookie season, you will find a table near the main entrance where you can stock up for the year. Though we generally walk, there are two parking areas - one underground and another one that's partially an open lot connected to a covered garage on the same level as the store. There's also bike parking in-between the two store entrances. This store is also conveniently located near a Chipotle, Korean restaurant and Sushi Me (conveyor belt sushi) if you get tired from the grocery shopping and no longer want to cook your meal. read more

Wow, Safeway is nice! I stopped by here to do some shopping before a movie over at Lincoln Cinemas. It seems to be brand spanking new! nice area to sit and use the wifi with Starbucks, pretty decent produce section and a rather prodigious wine selection for a chain grocery store. I did not encounter any strange smells in the meat and fish section which is always a good sign. I came here expecting to pick up a few items ended up with 4 grocery bags full. They have their own parking area but I parked way over by the theatre. Tactical error but at least I found a nice grocery store! read more

Overall disappointed with the price for quality of food. It's 8.99 a pound which I didn't realize until I got to the counter and rung it up. 8.99 is a little overpriced in my opinion, totaling 12 bucks and some change ~ I don't recommend the salad bar but instead buying everything separate. I really like this Safeway. It is large, has restrooms, has self-checkouts, and has PLASTIC bags (haha). There is also a Starbucks right near the entrance too. Safeway is located conveniently right off the 550 bus line. The Safeway location is right in downtown Bellevue, next to the Bellevue Square mall. I find the prices of the Safeway goods to be rather reasonable, especially when they have sale prices. I see the sale tags frequently - my favorite is when they do 2/$6 boxes of instant Quaker oatmeal packets. Unlike Walgreens, you don't have to buy two to get the sale deal; if you buy only one of the items, it is just half the price. At least, this has been my experience with Safeway so far, and I have yet to see otherwise. The store inside is very clean. I like. I also like its pretty wine display in the back; there is this cool fake waterfall. I thought Bellevue would be immune from the crazies, but unfortunately I have seen one or two outside the Safeway. We routinely walk to this Safeway as well as QFC as we live downtown. I have to say, going to this location has become very uncomfortable due to all the homeless/panhandlers hanging out at the entrances. Last night there were 5 of them, all grown men, verbally begging. My absolute favorite place to grocery shop downtown. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen and so far have always been able to find what I was looking for. Never a complaint with the freshness of their produce or meat departments...which usually keeps me from shopping somewhere. However, the cake department of their bakery needs some serious work. A special nod of respect to Bill, their wine steward. Although not the largest, they definitely have a great selection of wine. Then Bill walks up and makes you feel like you're at an upscale wine tasting event (sans the full glass of wine in your hand) and all your problems are solved. He doesn't just recite the literature from the last Wine Enthusiast Magazine, he has real knowledge. An overall great guy to get to know. Safeway better keep him around. read more

When I think of a downtown Bellevue grocery store, I think of this Safeway. Brightly lit, clean, well organized, a little pricy with some neat offerings - an olive bar, a roasted nut counter & freshly ground nut butters). BUT this place is always busy. There are definitely times where it seems like 90% of the store is waiting in line...which is surprising because they do have self check-out lanes available. The sitting area is a nice space to get some studying done- I've noticed its quite the gathering place for group study sessions, people on their laptops, people reading newspaper - the people you might see lounging at a Starbucks. But later at night the people can trend towards the homeless variety. read more

Probably the best Safeway I've visited. So convenient to shop here when you park at the lower level parking garage. Just take the elevator down after checkout, WITH your cart. Being in a downtown location, they really made sure it's accessible and easy to shop here. Fresh donuts even at night, clean setup, fresh produce as well. Never call me back for my refills are ready to pick up. After waiting for a few days, I called them again, and find out they didn't process my refills. I lived in the Avalon condos/apartments in Juanita and loved it. The only thing that would make me consider moving out of my place now for another Eastside dig would be to live above this Safeway! Everyone that knows me knows I have a hang up on grocery shopping. I LOVE IT! If I don't have a full fridge, freezer and cupboards I freak a bit and head to the grocery store. I think you can learn a lot from the way a person grocery shops. My personal style is to walk down each aisle admiring all the pretty labels, new products, and taking the time to bring it all in. I love the people watching and making funny faces at the smiling babies and toddlers. I have never gotten along well longterm with someone who couldn't enjoy grocery shopping at least occasionally. Events should be savored including food shopping. Moving on, this Safeway is the greatest of all Safeways and many grocery stores for a few reasons. 1. They have a make your own nut butter bar. Not station, bar! I call this a bar and not a station because you name the nut and they have a grinder to make it into nut butter with a flip of a switch, you are not just limited to boring peanuts. I like to swirl mine around in the container like it is ice cream personally. I also like to create an assortment of nut butters under one lid. I call it the Sarah and Stephanie Nut Butter Creation. It would make millions if it was released to the general public. So in synopsis you can make macadamia, almond, cashew, peanut, honey roasted peanut butter and I am sure a couple more I am forgetting. The Nut Butter Bar is also situated behind the roasted nuts, chocolate yumminess bar so you remain hidden. So if by chance you want to dip and lick your finger into the nut butter goodness you have created then feel free to do so. I have yet to be caught. 2. Adjacent to the Nut Butter Bar is the honey bar. They have the bear shaped squeeze bottles (necessary for the most tasty honey) and 2 different kinds of honey you can pump yourself. Again you are hidden and I lick my fingers when filling the honey too! 3. On the opposite side of the Nut butter bar lies the "Mix It Up Bar." This provides a plethora of delicious treats. My favorite is the yogurt covered pretzels! Delicious! 4. On the other side of the store you will find "The Salad, Taco, Nacho and Baked Potato Bar." Yes you read that correctly and it is amazing. Often I come here famished from tanning or going tanning after a long day of errands and eeerrr shopping... and this bar always saves me. Whether I grab a container of fruit and cottage cheese, make myself a soft taco, or best yet a baked potato loaded with goodness to munch on while I wait for my tanning appt it always hits the spot. 5. "The Cheese Bar" runs along side the "Potato Taco Etc Bar" and for a Safeway the selection isn't to shabby. (I still do the majority of my cheese shopping at Costco.) 6. The deli is a constant source of nourishment for my lazy days. They have everything from yummy Caprese and tortellini salad that I adore on afternoons and quiche. Never as good as what I make personally but once again this is for my lazy days. 7. The Safeway Select brand and Safeway Organic brand always meets and/or exceeds my standards level. I am a big fan of their stocks (both chicken and beef) and their garlic basil tomato sauce which I use as the base when I am not making my sauce completely from scratch. The importance of a good stock or tomato sauce is completely overridden by most but not I. 8. The service and customers that shop here are amazing. Any questions get answered with a smile and they lead me right to where it is. The customers that shop here are always a hoot and delightful. I always get complimented on what I am wearing or share recipe advice on one of the aisles. I tend to get hit on in the produce section it seems. Weird but true, so ladies looking for a date need to shop for more fresh fruits and veggies. 9. Self Checkout is always a constant source of amusement. I never was a grocery store checker but I think I would be quite good because I rock at the self checkout. Occasionally I do ring in my sweet onions as yellow onions! Sorry Safeway! I love this Safeway. They've modified their deli section into a lunch room with a salad bar, sandwich counter and soup station. They will have the standard deli options of premade sub sandwiches, salads, etc.and they've got two checkout cashiers with beverages behind them to boot. The quality and selection isn't quite up to par with Whole Foods but now I don't have to spend beaucoup bucks for my lunch and feel good about it because I'm pretty sure Safeway's CEO isn't some crazy right-wing nut that posts on the Internet under a psuedonym. read more

Holy Belleuve... I'm tempted to stop there. I'm also torn between one star and five stars as this is the most atrocious display of American excess that I've seen in some time. However it was beautiful. And massive. And wow. Wow. They.. they had a nut bar where you could choose what nut you would like to grind. They... they had a honey machine where you could choose your flavor: clover, lavender, blossom, set or solid, runny honey for you today? I could go on. It was like Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory of grocery stores. You know what, it wasn't a grocery store... it was a grocery experience. So while this is a place I'd love to hate, I hate to say... This is probably the best Safeway I've been to in Washington. Not only does it look new and clean inside, but the parking lot has got covered parking as well. It's kinda like a garage without the dungeon feeling. I like that this location is conveniently located near the 405 exit and also next to Bellevue Square. In terms of the groceries (cuz this IS a grocery store, after all), it's got a large area for meats and vegetables. I would say the most unique aspect of this Safeway is that they have a nut counter - kind of like a deli counter but you know, for nuts. As a nut lover, I thought this was really neat. One drawback is that I found the organic produce selection to be rather small. But if you're not into organics then it makes no difference. read more

This is my regular grocery store. I love how clean the store is and they have a good selection of organic vegetables, healthy drinks and excellent, excellent wine selection. Unsure why there are so many negative reviews on the staff here. This Safeway is close to home and I have visited often since moving to Bellevue. Perhaps it is that I take the time to ask employees how they are, but I try to always make a point to be personable especially at my regular stops. As much as I am not thrilled with the recent moving of aisles and items, they are helpful and I find the staff as friendly. On another, I recently used their delivery service and I am beyond happy!! Holy Shit this place is big.- Its probably bigger than the whole foods store in bellevue.They should attach little GPS units to the shopping cart! Overall this is a Safeway on steroids. Its got Gelato, Starbucks, a wine cellar (wtf?) Cherry wood floored Pharmacy.... you get the point. My main pet peeve with this store is the lay out. Its so fucking huge you can't just walk in grab a loaf of bread and veggies. ALL the isles are SUPER high that you can't really see over them, and to make things worse some isles have to rows within one row.... Their half sized smaller carts are much nicer though, makes shopping smoother. In the end it's still a Safeway. My past experiences there have been so bad (moldy food on several occasions.. yuck). CUSTOMER SERVICES SUCKS HARDCORE DUDE THANKS TO ALEX. The cashier guy that helped us on my lovely Saturday night, his name was ALEX. I double-checked it through his name tag as well as on my receipt because he was SO RUDE & I knew that I was going to have to write about my horrible experience & how he contributed to it. First of, we went there at like 10pm & there was no one who had access to the key to open up the liquor cabinet. How? She's told us that there was only two of them but I didn't understand why that was even a factor in whether or not someone has a key. You're open for business, SOMEONE should have a key. Okay, ALEX was our cashier & we originally were going to split the bill between my friend & I but when the total turned out to be just 26 dollars my friend told him that she would just pay for the entire thing. Guess everyone & their mom heard my friend say that she would take care of it besides our cashier ALEX so he continued to split it. When we realized that he didn't hear us, I obliged & ran my card but the WHOLE FREAKIN' time I was waiting for my card to process ALEX was mumbling under his breath that "well I did what you wanted...... it's not my fault." blah blah blah. Dude, it wasn't even an issue to begin with! At least wait until we walk away to start talking ish. I was a Customer Relations Manager for 6 years & ish like that would not fly. SUPER RUDE & he turned what was a non-issue & escalated it to this review I am writing right now. The first time I visited this store, about four years ago, I was given a tour by the person in charge of the wine section. I was planning a cocktail party and Washington State was still in full force celebration of the Blue Laws and I was having a difficult time finding the accoutrements on my list. The person helped me to find alternatives to the items that I was unable to find, very sweet! This store now has a fabulous selection of liquor to go along with the nice wine choices. I enjoy the deli and cheese selections as well. When am headed out somewhere and need to bring breakfast, I get the fresh made breakfast burritos in the deli, they are fantastic and the price is reasonable. My burritos get a much better reception than donuts and I save quite a bit too! The fresh fruit and vegetables are hit and miss, many times I am really disappointed in the quality and leave without the items I need. I buy fish in the seafood section and it is usually really good. The last time I bought some salmon fillets, some had so many bones that we had to toss it and run back for more. I was hosting a dinner party and it was so embarrassing! The prices on beverages, frozen items and many of the other items can be perplexing. At times a twelve pack of soda will be priced at $8 for one, but if you buy two, you get a third free. I have also noticed some items with inflated prices, unless you buy ten of the same items. I have been noticing this more and more and having been making more trips to Target and Costco in for groceries. I don't like being manipulated into buying more than I need to get a normal price. Safeway cannot convince me that $8 is a normal price for a twelve pack of soda! Some of the other "normal" prices are just as silly. I really like this store, but as I said, because of their new pricing strategy, I only drop in a few times a month and spend about 20% of what I used to spend at this store. read more

This lovely new Safeway opened a few days ago and is doing a great deal to invigorate downtown Bellevue. This newly opened 55,000 sf store is a flagship - its about 10,000 sf larger than your average Safeway. Plenty of parking can be found below the store. Glass elevators take you upstairs to a lovely new store. Cool features of this store includ: Gelato Bar Fresh Sushi Starbucks/Jamba Juice Virtual Wine Adviser Nut Bar (over sixty types in climate control) Huge produce section Meat/Seafood that is about 30 feet larger than the average Safeway Salad Bar/Deli read more

I'm updating this review because I just found out that they have permanently removed the bulk food section. I'm so disappointed! QFC is just down the street, and I'll try to be shopping there from now on. It's really the straw that broke the camel's back. I also still recommend that If you do shop here, don't go around 6 p.m. on a week night. There are very few registers open, and the lines are ridiculously long. I asked a cashier about it, and he said that management won't let them put many people on the registers. Other than that, I feel like the produce has improved a bit. Aside from the moldy red pepper I saw in the organic section on Wednesday, I'd say it's not bad. read more

The rating here for two stars is "meh. I've experienced better." Very true. Yes, this Safeway looks nice inside, but things are more expensive because of it. Their produce is around the same price as whole foods, but with less selection. The worst thing, though, is that Safeway is very sale based. This may sound good, but it's not for two reasons. One: the non-sale price sucks. Two: if you don't shop before 6pm half of the things you want are gone. This is very annoying if something you want on a normal basis happens to be on sale. Last time I went in the lean ground beef was on sale and I was there at 7pm. The shelves were completely empty. Ugh! I just find this to be a pretty common thing here. There are so many options in Bellevue that you don't need to shop here. Whole foods, Fred Meyer, trader joes all beat out this place in my opinion. read more

I'm a Florida girl where Publix is THE grocery store to go to. I didn't think I would find another grocery store that I would love... but I have found love again. When I moved to Bellevue I discovered Safeway was pretty much my only option and I'm very happy with it! It's a huge store and the staff are always very friendly. They actually say "hi" and if you're looking for something they will walk you to the aisle, instead of pointing or saying "aisle 10." I've never been to a grocery store that has a nut bar and gelato bar... which is open daily until 10:00pm. There's also a Starbucks and TV/seating area. I really really like self checkout. Be sure you sign up for the Safeway card and scan it each time you make a purchase. You won't get stuff on sale unless you do. They are open until 1:00am, can't beat that! read more

WOW, I love this location, I live in Factoria and at times drive farther just for this location. Here are somethings that make this location worth a trip: - Decent size seafood department -A peanut butter bar ( you can mix different type of nut butters with different type of honey to make your perfect peanut butter!) -A herb bar, wish I wished I knew about earlier! (you can buy any amount you want instead of buying a whole bottle) -Huge selection of everything in General. Make sure to bring a reusable bag. I like this place so much more than QFC. I always told my boyfriend QFC was overpriced, and it was confirmed when I came here to pick up a few things. They also have cheaper wine than QFC, which is great for me. The parking is either underground or in a covered lot right next to Safeway. It's right on Bellevue Way, so it's easy to find and easy to get in and out. The only qualm I have is some of their vegetables did not seem as fresh and I would have liked, but that could have been just a rare instance from my visit. Whenever I am down by 4th st, I would much rather go here than QFC. read more

Occasion: Buying Produce Probably one of the better Safeway's I've ever been to. It's very clean, but maybe that's because of Bellevue Standards? Will need to re-evaluate , because for the first time in a very long time I handpicked everything fresh and I was in a rush!
