Came for the kimchis and it delivered!!! Its crazy good!!! When words has it that they got the best kimchis; i was hesitant to believe it but danggggg; this is it!!! We got the napa kimchi; its briny, salty, so flavorful. The radish kimchi is slightly sweet and sooo much flavor The cucumber kimchi is so juicy and so perfect. We love them. We plan to go back to try their soy marinated crabs and other kimchis (they did not have the full stock this time) But so so glad we found this place. Aisles are narrow, but that's so they can pack in a lot of good Korean products. It reminds me of going to local Korean markets I've visited in Seoul. It's a great Korean market that is convenient and will have most of the goods that you are looking for. My only complaints are that there are Very small aisles & Slightly higher pricing than other Asian markets. To more than make it up for it - hands down the best kimchi you'll get in the Eastside. The cucumber kimchi here is insanely addicting. It's fresh, crunchy, balanced with heat and salt and slight tanginess. Also, you can get a variety of other kimchi here that I haven't seen at other markets. My fave kimchis are the ong choy and mustard green kimchi. I crave this stuff. It's perfect as is and compliments any rice dish. And if you've had it a little too long, the absolute perfect addition to any ramen bowl. Additionally, the Kimbap here is so good and so affordable. Honestly, this is the only place I'll get my kimchi from now. And it's nice that I can pick up any pantry staples that I may need while here. read more

Fairly basic kimbap with minimal ingredients in it, but it works if I need to get actual food for my clients when I used to work in Factoria. They also have in house made kimchi that I sometimes pick up. The grocery store is pretty small, but it has all the essentials if you need emergency Asian items. H-mart will have more selections, but this will do if you're in the immediate area. Southgate Mart is located in the same plaza as I Love Pho, be careful if you are turning in the light through the Nail Salon from the other side as there's giant decor rocks that is hard to spot at the sharp corner that everybody keep getting their car stuck and having to call a tow to get it out. I'm not sure why the landlord hasn't remove those hazardous rocks as so many cars have gotten stuck on it. My absolute favorite little Korean grocery store. Authentic home style Kimbob and Japchae made fresh daily. Abundance amt of selection for fresh, frozen or dried Korean food at an affordable price. The ladies at the counter is super friendly and if you're not familiar with Korean food, they can suggest things for you. If you love Korean side dishes, they have a fridge dedicated to selling the sides you would normally find at restaurants. This little Korean market is great! It's located in Factoria, so off of I-90, which is convenient. It's nice to have an option for Korean groceries other than H-mart (though H-mart is awesome too). Compared to H-mart, it's a lot smaller (the store overall is small and the aisles are narrower), but's it's full of stuff and it's fun to look around. They carry all the major ingredients you would need to make Korean food, plus they also sell kimbap and they sell homemade kimchi in jars in the back section (where the produce are). The chonggak kimchi (young radish kimchi) is really good! The prices are a little higher than they would be at a chain Asian grocery store, but if you don't want to go out of the way or just need to pick up something really quick, this is a great choice and you can support a local mom n pop shop! read more

The parking lot can get crowded, with neighboring businesses and such. But if you're looking to stock up on your Korean favorites, it's worth a visit and the parking struggles. I visited on a Saturday and the place was crowded with lots of people grocery shopping. Let's just say I was the only non-Korean person here! I love Korean ramen, so was happy to find a bunch of options here, including cheese and kimchi ramens! The space inside isn't large, but they seem to have a good selection of items, depending on what you're looking for. They even have a freezer section along the sides of the store. The Paldo in Bellevue closed recently. And I think it is having a domino effect as a number of businesses in the Lake Hills Shopping Center have closed and/or in the process of relocating. Though it was dingy, Paldo was the closest place to my house to find Asian food products. Not to mention Korean banchan. Really hope they redevelop that shopping center and some Asian supermarket (99, H Mart, etc.) opens as a tenant there. As a result of Paldo's closure, the closest Korean grocery is Southgate Oriental Grocery in Factoria. It is located in a strip mall across from Factoria Mall next to I Love Pho and two shops away from Boulangerie which is a Korean bakery. This Korean grocery is much smaller, but seems to offer a good selection of Korean products despite its compactness. The major difference between Paldo and Southgate is that there isn't a meat and seafood counter. Southgate sells meats, but of the frozen variety. Produce section here is decently priced for an Asian grocery. As it is a Korean store, there is a good selection of peppers and all that you need to make kim chee. If you want premade kim chee, they sell that too in big containers in the back. A good portion of the store is devoted to their selection of Korean banchan. The offerings are pretty comparable to the one at Paldo. Fresh back from a trip to Hawaii recently, I was looking for some taegu which is a dried codfish mixed with chili peppers side dish popular there. I couldn't find any. Wonder if this is only available in Hawaii? Anyways, the closest I could find was dried anchovies so I decided to pass. But I did get some cucumber kim chee ($3.99/lb.) which were nice and crisp. Lastly, I will say the kim bap (aka Korean sushi) here is tasty. I picked up one for about $4 which are found next to the pay counter. The kim bap was still warm. I think what makes it work is the seaweed inside the sushi which adds a moisture element to it. Southgate isn't an even trade for losing Paldo, but it is nice to have an option nearby to pick up Korean groceries and banchan. read more

This little market is the bomb. It has pre-made kimbop and fish cake along with an assortment of many other goodies. We usually order a bunch of kim bop. The little items can really add up. Southgate Mart is a cute local Korean grocer in Factoria. The reviews are spot-on for the side dishes. Love their japchae and kimbap, though the japchae was a little over-salted for my taste. They do not skimp on the sesame oil, making the food extra fragrant. I once forgot my mask when I was out on a walk. The cashier lady offered me a mask, and I really appreciate the gesture. The female cashier made it uncomfortable while shopping and during checkout. She looked pissy that I was in the store, and made a point to grab and toss things over while ringing me up. When I used my debit card it said accepted but she quickly redid the transaction and nicely said it wasn't excepted it needed to be reinserted. After I redid it she gave me the receipt for that transaction. The next day I look at my bank account and there is two transactions as I suspected. I decided to go to this store because of all the positive reviews here. However, I found this place a little sketchy and SUPER DISAPPOINTED. So I grabbed some chocolate near the counter when I checked out. Everything seems fine. I went back home and found that the expiration date of the chocolate is 3/8. Yesterday was 3/8. WTF?! It is not okay to sell food that's going bad to the customers. That's just really mean and cheap way of doing business. I wonder if those pre made food has been there for a long time too. I really enjoy this little market! The folks here are so sweet! They have a large variety of products for such a small store! I especially love their banchan bar! It's self-serve, enjoy some samples, fill up your preferred container, and get it weighed at the register for price. I come here for the banchan sides, but mostly prefer the large container of kimchi in the back fridge by the veggies since it's a set price. I love adding kimchi to everything I eat so I am always restocking jars of kimchi from here. When I do KBBQ at home, I grab the meat here as well. Now that Paldo World has closed, it's just Southgate and H Mart as the places to get Korean groceries. You also have Jing Jing (another Asian grocery store) only a quarter mile away, so this area is excellent for shopping for international food. The most noticeable thing about this place to me is always how they're so packed with instant noodles. But that's not what I come here to get; I like to buy Korean drinks that you won't find anywhere else. Chinese supermarkets don't always carry everything from all the Asian countries, and it's nice to have a little variety. I think the prices are rather high, but it's worth it simply for the convenience. They also give me cloth bags to carry my items, and that alone is worth a positive review. read more

I never really give this play a try as I assumed it wouldn't be a one stop get everything kind of a place, but after Covid, I didn't feel comfortable going to these larger grocery stores because at times it was Soo crowded I felt challenged keeping my social distancing. Although price is on the higher side, it's really nice little market to grab things. They have wide variety of things and I haven't felt the need to goto the larger Asian grocery stores much and been getting most of my needs from here. The reason for the 5 stars is because of their kimchee and the banchans (korean side dishes) Again~ it's bit pricy, but worth it. I am not big on buying ready made meals, but after trying their kimchee it was sooo good we decided to try other side dishes. My very picky eating family (they won't eat kimchee that I buy from other places.... ) loves the kimchee, side dishes that I grab from here. I grew up in Federal Way, which means I practically grew up on Korean food because Federal Way is where Koreans spawn from the stone jars that have fermented cabbage in them. I wish I were exaggerating, there was like an H-Mart in everybody's backyard. Not that I am complaining. Some of the best Korean restaurants are in Federal Way but I simply can't justify driving an hour there to have Korean food. This is where Southgate comes in and although it's a market and not a restaurant, they make some of the best kimchi and kimbap that I have ever had. I never leave this place empty-handed because everything is such a delight considering the lack of any good Korean places to eat on the Eastside. For one, their food is made fresh here and not just canned from an unknown factory. They have a spot reserved in the back where the elderly, gung-ho Korean women are hard at work brining all sorts of vegetables and fish. They have everything you could possibly want as side dishes from your standard cabbage kimchi, cucumbers, green onions, seaweed salad, bean sprouts, fermented squid, pickled lotus, dried anchovies, et cetera. You can either dish it out yourself, where they will charge you by the weight, or they have some pre-packaged for convenience. This is where the glutton in me really shines. And because they also love to tease, out in the front where the cashier is they have fresh kimbap, sometimes japchae (sweet potato noodles), pajeon (flour pancakes), and other miscellaneous things that might be a special for the season. Just today I saw that they had dried persimmons and dried red Chinese dates for sale. I've never had anything but their kimbap but I can testify that it's good, better than the ones at Uwajimaya because it hasn't been refrigerated past its rigor mortis stage. It's a relatively compact store but they make use of every single square footage. I am surprised, actually, at how they have utilized the space. They are able to not only have a decent frozen selection of Korean goods, but they have space for baked goods and Korean pastries, their kimchi buffet line, a refrigerated section for their pre-packaged goods, some produce and fruit, and your average shopping needs (sauces, seasonings, packaged goods, junk food, dried goods, and so forth). It's no Paldo or whatever but definitely a quality replacement. I could spend hours in this small market. read more
