Southgate Mart is a small family owned grocery store specializing in Korean goods. The store is packed with unique snacks and foods that would be essential to any Korean meal. I visited the shop specifically for their kimchi as they have some of the best around. The kimchi is pickled just right and has a good spicy flavor. If you're in the area and looking for Asian groceries or good kimchi, make sure to check out Southgate Mart!

Came for the kimbob. Was not disappointed. Nice people at the registers. Store is kind of crammed and small but I like that. Fair selection of Asian snacks and produce

Came here for lunch today to grab some banchan. The store is small and the aisles are narrow, but it has all sorts of Korean things from snacks, ramen, produce, Kimchi, and there's a banchan section with things from marinated raw oysters, raw crab, mustard greens, boy choy, dry squid, bean sprouts, and more! And the cashier was nice and quick. I'm definitely coming back!

It's a great Korean market that is convenient and will have most of the goods that you are looking for. My only complaints are that there are Very small aisles & Slightly higher pricing than other Asian markets. To more than make it up for it - hands down the best kimchi you'll get in the Eastside. The cucumber kimchi here is insanely addicting. It's fresh, crunchy, balanced with heat and salt and slight tanginess. Also, you can get a variety of other kimchi here that I haven't seen at other markets. My fave kimchis are the ong choy and mustard green kimchi. I crave this stuff. It's perfect as is and compliments any rice dish. And if you've had it a little too long, the absolute perfect addition to any ramen bowl. Additionally, the Kimbap here is so good and so affordable. Honestly, this is the only place I'll get my kimchi from now. And it's nice that I can pick up any pantry staples that I may need while here.

Nice Korean/Asian Grocery store. Surprisingly had lots of variety of dried noodles, and frozen foods. The proprietor was very nice and friendly too! Bought some mung bean noodles and fresh rice noodles. Also purchased bean sprouts. Nice selection of spices and herbs, fresh veggies

This little Korean market is great! It's located in Factoria, so off of I-90, which is convenient. It's nice to have an option for Korean groceries other than H-mart (though H-mart is awesome too). Compared to H-mart, it's a lot smaller (the store overall is small and the aisles are narrower), but's it's full of stuff and it's fun to look around. They carry all the major ingredients you would need to make Korean food, plus they also sell kimbap and they sell homemade kimchi in jars in the back section (where the produce are). The chonggak kimchi (young radish kimchi) is really good! The prices are a little higher than they would be at a chain Asian grocery store, but if you don't want to go out of the way or just need to pick up something really quick, this is a great choice and you can support a local mom n pop shop!

I had no idea Southgate Mart was here 'til I was trying to find a parking spot to go to another business nearby in this Factoria business strip. But I'm glad I did! Southgate Mart has a lot of Korean food items. Get here early for the already-made food! As mentioned, Southgate Mart is located in a strip mall in Factoria. The parking lot can get crowded, with neighboring businesses and such. But if you're looking to stock up on your Korean favorites, it's worth a visit and the parking struggles. I visited on a Saturday and the place was crowded with lots of people grocery shopping. Let's just say I was the only non-Korean person here! I love Korean ramen, so was happy to find a bunch of options here, including cheese and kimchi ramens! The space inside isn't large, but they seem to have a good selection of items, depending on what you're looking for. They even have a freezer section along the sides of the store. I'm glad I discovered Southgate Mart and will be back whenever I'm in Factoria and in need of my ramen.

OK, still haven't stepped in this very busy, Chinese grocery store, but got to eat a birthday cake…read morepurchased from there. If one likes mangos, their mango strawberry cake is a dream. Costing under $60, the large cake was beautifully made and decorated. Like other Asian bakeries (e.g. Paris Baguette, Tous Les Jours, 85 C), the cake was chiffon with whipped cream and was quite good. But what made it stand out was how mango and strawberries were incorporated into the design AND how it tasted. Mangoes were thinly sliced and used like fondant to COVER the entire top of the cake. Then chopped mangos and whole strawberries were added on top to decorate it even more. Fondant is great to make the cake look good, but I don't like it as an edible product (it's like eating pure sugar for me). Ripe mango, on the other hand, I could eat all day...and this version was ripe without being overly so. The cake came well packaged in a travel container, and included a cake cutter, signage, and a candle. The four of us could barely make a large dent in it (maybe a 1/3), even though it didn't use buttermilk frosting, but used really good whipped cream instead. I think it's twice the size of a Tous Les Jour large (which is usually what our family gets for birthdays), and wasn't that much more.

When I asked an employee whether any vegetable bao were still available, she told me--clearly and confidently--that there were. I specifically questioned this, pointing to the "sold out" sign, yet she insisted that they were not sold out and proceeded to package four for me. When she handed me the box, I asked again--explicitly--whether these were vegetarian. For a third time, she assured me that they were. After a two-hour drive home, I opened the box to find that I had been given pork bao. This was not a minor oversight. I asked multiple times and received repeated, unequivocal assurances. At that point, this ceases to be a simple mistake and reflects either a complete disregard for accuracy or a willingness to mislead a customer to move product. Neither is acceptable. Customers rely on staff to provide correct information, especially when dietary preferences or restrictions are involved. The failure here was not just operational--it was a failure of basic honesty and accountability. This experience left me feeling violated, disrespected, and taken advantage of. It is extremely disappointing that such conduct can occur in a business that presents itself as reputable. One interaction like this is enough to severely damage trust in the store as a whole.

This market is smaller than its competitor in Tacoma, but we found it well-stocked and organized, as evidenced by its bright, airy, and friendly staffed atmosphere. Our biggest dissatisfaction was with their ready-made meals--unbeknownst to us until we reached the checkout area, we learned that à la carte items are priced by weight. Normally, in other Filipino markets that offer ready-made entrees, a la carte items are priced by container size (S, M, L) rather than by weight. In essence, they were expensive meals to swallow (no pun intended). Secondly, most of what we purchased lacked flavor and content. For example, the pork sinigang was not sour enough, and the pork belly lacked substance because most were very fatty rather than meaty. The large container also had more liquid/soup than meat and veggies. Moreover, the chicken and pork barbecue were subpar, again lacking taste--exactly the opposite of how they looked while cooking on the grill. The pork sisig was probably our 'good' buy at best, although at a whopping $32.00+ for a large a la carte. We also purchased empanadas, puto bong bong, and taho at the bakery. Price and taste-wise, they were okay, but nothing to write home about. Across the board, my next trip would be to try out Max Chicken and peruse other specialty items. Otherwise, I would probably return to the grocery section to buy ingredients, cook, and enjoy a more flavorful meal at home.
