Also, other things, but those are the staples. [they have yummy pan dulce, cakes and desserts, and all the chips you can dream of, some imported from MX Direct] The location could be better, but they have a private lot, and we haven't had any issues in the two-plus years of coming here. Most items are reasonably priced, and the folks here are helpful and welcoming. There could be seedy characters around, but most mind their business. We tried a few other markets closer to our neighborhood, but their selections weren't as good as Castillos. Castillos has most things you can dream of and their carniceria is also bomb, we've tried most meats here, they're pretty high quality. The only con here is the price of the meats, but it's understandable that since they're a small market, they're less competitively priced than the larger grocers. Also, I don't want to hurt their reputation by getting into the details; all I will mention is to be very careful with the Chorizo. Make sure you chew it thoroughly and inspect it carefully while cooking.

When we arrived, we were told by a kind and energetic female employee that they didn't do that and they only have prepared tamales. She did let us know that there is a Mexican restaurant on the other end that had rice and beans and we thanked her then left. The store itself was very clean and there was plenty of space to browse around but it is a bit cramped. The meats here looked very fresh and the prices were very fair too! I was thinking that we should probably get some snacks and decided to pick up tortilla chips, fresh made guac, and 1/2lb of chicharron which ended up being $20.20 and that seemed like such a great deal especially with how much chicharron we got and it was so delicious! My brother told me that chicharron is usually eaten with guac and their guac here was fantastic both with the chicharron, chips and on its own. My boyfriend wants to come back to get more options, he saw that they did a specific specialty for a good price and wants to try that out.

This is the place where you are in the center of White Center where there's a taco truck 25 feet to the south and one of the best Mexican food restaurant to the north that's about 20 feet away. Or, go here and buy some tamales where they have both mild and spicy, meat or chicken tamales, guess it depends what they are making that day. Don't pass up buying some of the salsa to go along with your tamales.

La Canasta is a great all around Mercado for every thing you need for home cooked tacos or burritos. They do not sell liquor, so for Mexican cervesa you'll have another stop. They also have an in-house restaurant with dine-in, take out, and delivery that is very good. The best thing that La Canasta does is their chorizo seco!! I have tried all of the local varieties from here to there, and La Canasta makes the best! I recommend grilling (be careful as it is oily and will flare up) and then crumbling on tacos, burritos, breakfast burritos, etc. I also will prepare a bunch in advance and freeze, so I can pull out for quick reheat. Overall, La Canasta is a delightful Mercado for authentic Mexican/Latin food!
