We bought a few grocery items and some live oysters and clams. Some how an error was made, we were charged and paid $100 dollars over the correct amount on our debit card. We called on discovery, spoke with the manager, "we will fix it next time you're in". Next time in "done deal'. A life time customer, just like that. The oysters and clams were all alive, and wonderful. Uwajimaya has great shell fish and a great staff. I will drive the 90 miles to shop there, by passing the 'fresh fish' store 25 miles away. read more

Decided to drop by this Uwajimaya store location in Bellevue today, 3/27/26. Bought some food from the deli - a Combo plate, a Roast Duck, Bubble Tea drinks from the drinks aisle, some Asian Snacks, a Donburi Bowl, and a couple of Vietnamese Banh Mi sandwiches. Got very good service from the deli as well as at the checkout line. The store had a decent amount of hot food selections, Sushi, Noodles, Teriyaki Chicken, drinks and snacks, among other things. Prices are a little high for the prepared foods, but you get what you pay for. The variety of items at this store is good. Aisles can be a little tight to maneuver around if it gets pretty crowded, though. read more

After a unsatisfying experience with product at a different grocery store, came here to get fish roe. The product and experience was good. Uwajimaya ("store from Uwajima" a city in Japan) is a premium grocery store focusing mostly on Japanese food. They have 4 locations in the Pacific NW, with this location in Bellevue having a great selection of fresh foods. They do sell sturgeon caviar here, but we decided to get much cheaper Tobiko (red and black). It went well with the blinis that we had bought from a different store. Grew up with Uwajimaya when it was a small Japanese goods store in international district. Big fan , of every iteration of the store over the years . I rarely write reviews but had to take exception today because the pork "mixed bbq" package from the hot food take out section (see photo) was literally so terrible , inedible , that it is almost criminal to be selling this as a food product . It was only $7.34--and literally garbage. I have very eaten a lot of bbq pork in my life , so it isn't because I am not used to the fat/meat ratio. It's a criminal endeavor . 4 stars for the spam musubi and egg salad sando and other stuff I bought , and the store in general . Negative 10 for the mixed bbq pork . I'm not sure what changed more recently, and this was NEVER a problem at the Uwajimaya in Seattle where I used to eat very frequently because I worked just across the street. But my son vomits almost every time he eats here and I've been having signs of mild food poisoning, which is really rare for me - I have a exceptionally strong stomach. Obviously, I can only speak for us, but it's very sad that things seemed to have gone downhill for us with regard to this particular Uwajimaya over the last year or so. Maybe a little longer. As the attached graph shows, I waited a very long time to really establish a trend given how rare food poisoning of any kind is for me. (My son just refuses to eat there after the nth vomit episode, for a pretty high value of n.) read more

The most unassuming place to get the best lunch while you get your fix of all Asian groceries. The service is fast, the variety of food is great even for vegetarians. Their noodles and mapo tofu are amazing. Slightly in the pricier end but totally worth it and the portions are huge. The original pan-Asian (But lean Japanese) supermarket in Seattle. Well, the Bellevue branch of it. It's fine, you can get a lot of things here for your Eastern cooking and enjoyment that you can't get at the QFC, but like most other Asian-oriented supermarkets you always end up leaving wishing the overall quality was just a little bit better. When it comes to your essential packaged, tinned and canned stuff, Uwajimaya has you covered. Need some Kewpie? Check. Need some mirin? Check. Fish sauce? You get the picture. It's not all Japanese products but I wouldn't describe is as multi national as some other places I've shopped at in the world (Tian Tian in London comes to mind as being much, much more diverse and cleaner quite frankly) but you can probably find most things you're looking for. The issue is everything "fresh", prepared for the store or in the meat section. Like H Mart, the quality just isn't there in any of this stuff. If you're like me you really wish there would be some PCC equivalent of a Japanese or Korean supermarket but alas, you'll have to settle buying your beef and veggies from somewhere else. They do get a special nod for carrying a daily selection of Tres sandwiches which for most people is a real treat as getting to the actual Tres in Bellevue is a bit of journey. They have a produce section but it doesn't carry as much Chinese veggies but has enough for basic dishes. The meat section is all pre wrapped. No fresh fish section that I saw with butchers. I love Uwajimaya and it seems to just keep getting better. Uwajimaya in Bellevue recently was renovated, so the layout is much more open, spacious and looks a lot more like its Seattle location in Chinatown. The store is also brighter, with more hot food take-out selection AND my most favorite thing here is Waji's, the poke bar!!! I freaking love the poke here. It competes with poke restaurants around town, but is a much better deal. Uwajimaya has many Asian specialty items that I can't find elsewhere and I love the many local goods they sell here, supporting the local restaurants and shops. I don't need to trek to Seattle for my Hood Famous ube cookies anymore because Uwajimaya sells that, as well as the large ube cheesecake I get for guests. Or the broth from Happy Lamb for when I want to make my own soup. They even had one time a local farmer outside the grocer, that was selling their custom floral arrangements and bouquets. The selection is a treasure. And there's always plenty of staff to help you find products and such. One of the gals at the poke counter remembers me every time I visit to get my poke plate and always asks me how my travel plans went or how work is going. It's as if I made a friend! I love it. Uwajimaya is my go-to for Asian products and best deals for takeout. Yes, the poke is my favorite here. But also, my absolute favorite teriyaki is from Uwajimaya's hot deli. The teriyaki here is not slathered in that sweet, teriyaki sauce, which I hate! It's just grilled, tender chicken that's been marinated. I have no complaints. After going to the main Uwajimaya in the ID for decades, I finally have visited their East Side outpost a few times this year. The plusses? Parking is plentiful and also easier (no ticket validations). The lighting is better and the aisles are wider too. However, the ID store just offers much more of an experience in terms of selection, food court, additional shopping with Kinokuniya (although being next to Total Wine is also a plus). read more

This Japanese grocery store is located in Bellevue, WA and it reminds me of a higher end Mitsuwa, Tokyo Central or Marukai Market in California. They have a lot more selection here and, while I didn't find the specific product I was looking for, I found other products to take back with me to CA. During my visit, it was pretty crowded in the store - my fault, I did come on a Sunday afternoon. They also have a large parking lot but very busy parking. They have a ton of frozen and refrigerated food - meats and veggies. One obvious challenge is that they are not in packaging with English so if you have food allergies, this is probably not the place for you unless you can read the language. The have a ton of high sodium shelf-stable noodle just-add-water food, rice, etc Sooooooo many sauces, etc. that you will not find anywhere else. This is where I got really excited!! Racist disrespectful and unethical. My girls appreciated few things there and went to the store. The security guard, who gets support from the store manager is a jerk. White male guy, about 5.5 height and about 50 years old. He crossed boundaries approaching little kids and his intentions were beyond his job. My girls thankfully took his video of doing that. The store manager (female) also supported, also in the lies he told them. They ended up getting embarrassed themselves as they were wrong. Me and my friend were in there about 25 minutes ago, trying to buy a duck for Thanksgiving. 10 minutes into shopping we noticed we were being followed by a 'secret shopper' some guy in a brown hoodie, and not only him but a police police officer was also circling us untill we got to check out. I travelled from North Bend to shop at Uwajimaya. Their produce did not disappoint. Great selection and fresh. It seems that they are carrying more organic now, which I like. The big disappointment got me was their spicey ahi poke and salmon poke. It used to be really delicious! Completely different recipe. I also bought seaweed salad which was decent. I noticed that since they've industrialized the store, there aren't many Asians working there. The neighborhood Asian market feeling is gone. I knew there was a Uwajimaya in Seattle, but did not realize it was a chain. Silly me. We walked over from our hotel to check it out. What a great store! Even better than the one in Seattle IMHO. All the amazing fresh produce, lots of premade items and the kitchen section has so many amazing cooking tools. Teapots (I want them!), chop sticks, pans, just too much stuff to list. It was fun wandering through. Also plenty of H&B items. We purchased a couple of impulse items and I'm super glad we stopped in.
