    California Roll - IG: @nelson_eats

If you're a Seattleite, you know about Maruta Shoten in Georgetown. They have the best California Rolls in Seattle and if you go during their Happy Hour at 5pm, it's 50% off. If I come during the lunch time, I also love to get a Chinese Deli Combo at their Hot Foods Bar. Make sure you pick up some Chicken Wings and Croquettes. And if you go on other side, you can do all your grocery shopping and find all your Asian ingredients. They have an extensive ramen aisle as well as sauces. The staff are so nice here and I love talking to everyone at the Hot Foods area. This is one of my favorite grocery stores and I always stop in when I'm in Georgetown.

Asian quickie mart in Georgetown! Ive been frequenting Maruta Shoten for years. Its my go to stop for a quick take out lunch fix since I have an office in the area. A nice variety of ready made sushi and sashimi to choose from. They also have a take out counter for hot foods panda garden style. I will usually grab sashimi and some pre-made grilled fish for lunch. The market has some Asian staples but not is not a full on grocery store. More of a grab and go situation!

Whenever I'm in Georgetown, I make it a point to stop by Maruta Shoten. I enjoy their hot bar and chicken karaage by the pound. The sushi and miso cod are good options too! The garlic wings are next on my list.

Another Georgetown hidden gem! This Asian grocery store has a deli counter and serves bento boxes, fried food, sushi, and even Chinese deli items. They have really good prices on food and definitely more bang for the buck. For lunch, I picked up a tray of the mixed sashimi, 1/2 lb of chicken kaarage, and spicy tuna and salmon poke. The karaage was crunchy and still piping hot. The sashimi plate was also fresh and decent sized slices. The poke bowl was a good portion and had edamame, seaweed salad, onions, and tobiko. In addition to deli items, this is a full grocery with decent selection of sauces, noodles, teas, and other goods. This store reminds me of Shima's Supermarket in Waimanalo. Service was friendly and efficient. They have outdoor high tables for dining. Parking is available.

Stopped by here on our drive back from Seattle and wanted to check this place out. The market was small but had plenty to offer. There's plenty of parking behind the building. Upon entering the store, we noticed the store is divided into two sections with one going towards hot/cold foods while the other side is your typical grocery essentials. We immediately head straight to the hot and cold food section. We came around lunch time and there were plenty of bentos selections for easy grab and go. There was also a small ordering counter for hot foods. The workers were friendly and assisted us right away. We decided to try their fresh made karaage and katsudon. For the cold foods section, we were having a hard time choosing what to get. So we decided to get a variety of bentos and a California roll to try. Overall, the prices were very reasonable and the quality were fresh. We definitely bought too much on our first trip but it was a great splurge! I do like this concept similar to Hawaii. I'm so glad this place has so many Japanese food options especially if I want something quick. I will definitely come back again whenever I'm around the area.

Side quest of the day: stopping by Maruta Shoten. I mainly came for their deli items, which included everything from sushi and poke to a variety of hot and cold dishes. I was craving poke and got the spicy tuna, it was only $10! It's not as saucy as what you'd find at typical poke spots, but the fish quality was really good. I also tried the sushi rolls, and they tasted freshly made as in the rice was still soft. The karaage had great flavor, though since it was sitting under the heat lamp, it lost some of its crispiness, I'd recommend tossing it in the air fryer at home. Service was great and quick! Everything seemed reasonably priced. The grocery store itself was cool and gave off that authentic Japan feel. Definitely a fun little stop if you're in the area.

Bentos and sushi - IG @bougiefoodieboi

This is a Japanese grocery store that is most famous for their bento boxes and sushi. They have happy hour after 5pm for 50% bento and sushi which is a crazy good deal, since the bento boxes cost no more than $10 to begin with and large enough for a meal!!! Prices shown below are regular price, so imagine 50% off - Salmon bento ($9.25) - salmon is dry but flavorful. Rice is good, and they have tamago which is nice. - Chicken karaage ($8.99) - well seasoned, not the best but satisfies my cravings adequately. The egg is hard boiled. Mac salad is okay. The potato croquette was so good. Pickles and sweet potato were okay. - California roll ($5.45) - 6 large pieces. The sushi rice is too vinegary but the imitation crab is pretty good. Dipping it with the soy sauce and ginger enhances the food. - Washington roll ($7.45) - 6 large pieces. Salmon, cream cheese, avocado, and cucumber. The rice here is better and the salmon is quite fresh. I love this roll. - Egg Fu-Young with rice ($5.25) - egg, imitation crab, flour. Relatively simple and inexpensive to make but still hits the spot. They do limit the bentos to 5 a person which is nice since the 50% off makes these items' prices too good to be true. Imagine $3-5 for a meal made beautifully with lots of variety! With this rule, there were still plenty of bentos available even at 5:15pm (revisiting the area after a 20 min line to checkout) All of the above for less than $20 after tax!! 4 filling meals. All you need to do is microwave 60-90 seconds (as they recommend if you microwave with the container directly) and you can enjoy the bento, since they're served cold. Downsides are parking can fill up quickly as people visit ahead of time in anticipation of happy hour pricing but there's another lot next to it (separate entrance from the street) that had ample parking. And also 5pm is a small window since they close at 6pm and for most including me, I had to brave rush hour traffic which is especially disgusting on Thursdays. Food is 3/5 but value is 100/10 so it's really hard to not give a 5 stars. Prices felt like I am back in a 7/11 or FamilyMart or Lawson in Japan except that I didn't need to book a flight and fly many hours to get there!

Great Japanese grocery store that carries lots of Japanese goods, groceries, and prepared food. I came here specifically for the prepared food section as I heard it was big and fairly affordable. I was shocked at how much variety they had! They have rice, bowls, sushi, sashimi, bento boxes, etc. I was there around 11 AM on a Saturday and there were lots of options. I settled on a bento box that came with a few pieces of sushi, chicken karaage, mac salad, a croquette, rice, and a few other things - all for $8.99! This was a perfect bento box to eat for lunch - I was very satisfied with the portion. I did some shopping as well and thought the grocery prices were fair. I will definitely be back again!

Albacore, salmon and tuna. 5 bucks.

What an absolute gem this place is. Top tier quality sushi at a great price is not something you experience often. Masquerading as an unassuming grocery store this place has a wide selection of rolls, Sashimi and Bento. I was in and out quickly due to my 2 year old but next time I will be taking a full lap to get the total scope of everything offered at this swiss army Japanese market.

I believe it approximately 2:30ish when I was here today, New Year's Eve. Managed to grab the last CA roll. The deli section was nearly empty! I was not really surprised but I was surprised. I suppose based on the reviews they sell out fairly quickly. Yummy CA rolls though. And the price can't be beat. I had the gyoza pot stickers for a picnic lunch at nearby Seward Park. Delicious! The little side of sauce was so good. Not a straight soy sauce, but a vinegar style soy sauce. Salty and tangy. A perfect accompaniment with the pot stickers. I also got some miso soup paste, noodles, tofu and seaweed. Not a huge fan necessarily of munching on seaweed but this brand had a great flavor. I made some miso broth the seaweed was a perfect accompaniment. The parking lot is tight. The store wasn't quite as large as I expected but I was very happy with I made it there. Definitely if I come back I will come earlier to catch more sushi choices. It was nearly empty when I was there. Friendly service when I checked out. Great neighborhood vibes. Enjoy Seattle! Treat yourself! SYOY!

    Nigiri options

I remember when I first discovered Maruta Shoten. It was pre pandemic. I would always drive passed and was always curious to know what this place was. I decided to walk in one day and to my surprise it was one of those gems I only told a select few people about. It was great then and is still great even now. What is it? It's a local Japanese market that carries a variety of Japanese goods and groceries. Some you may find at other local groceries and some you may find at Asian specific markets. As well as food for take out. What I mainly go here for? I come for the ready made/packaged food and take out as well as their hot bar. More specificly if you're into sushi like sashimi, nigiri, and rolls. If you're into bentos and dons( rice bowls with accoutrements) The quality of the food is satisfyingly good in relation to the time it takes to get your food, pay and leave to be on your merry way. My go to items to get here are the packages nigiri to go as well as the packaged aburi salmon sushi to go. I do recommend coming around noon or slightly earlier. Try to make it before the rush to increase your chances of a better selection. It's risky but they do have a happy hour near close in where they discount the remaining items. You just might be disappointed at your options.

Black & White Cookies (4/5): I expected this to be cloyingly sweet, but this was actually scrumptious with some fresh lemon flavor in the cookie itself. Absolutely massive as well.

My note should have inspired some reflection with the business model but it didn't. Your level of greed was insane and that is not forgiven here. You started hot and decided to squeeze more than your share from this business and this is what happens. You messed around and found out. It's sad because I actually supported the business when it opened but quickly had to end my dealings due to the high level of greed. You did this to your own business by wanting more, more and more, so please don't play the victim here. I'm sorry that you're saddened by this but what you did to the community is far worse than what I said. Actually ripping people off with your product is not having humanity.
