I was in the store this morning to purchase Signature Refresh spring water. The shelf sticker said it was $1.49 per bottle. I bought 10 bottles. At checkout it rang as $1.69 per bottle and your employee, Adarius, was at the self-checkout. I questioned the price. He checked the price on the shelf as $1.49 and corrected the price in my checkout. He was very friendly, helpful, courteous and competent. He is an asset to your store and should be complimented. Essential brand sucks! I went to the store, and I was looking for Pillsbury, but ALL they offered was the Essential brand pie crusts. I'm thinking 'how different could they be?'. Very poorly managed store. Seemingly understaffed - because nobody is doing checkout after 7:30pm???? Seriously??? Also I can rarely get help finding an item, ever. And the few times I have - they were pissed someone spoke to them. I work as a delivery driver and only enter here when forced to take an order. Solid supermarket. I love their fruit and vegetables section, it's big, extensive and has conventional as well as organic produce. The staff is usually pretty friendly and they've always helped me anytime I had a question or couldn't find anything. Their deli is pretty good too. I love the selection. Parking is not too big but It works, usually I get a front row parking and there is a Starbucks inside til that's ok. They have a good selection of product. read more

This store is less than a mile from my house. I like it because I can get in and get out without fighting big crowds. The store is in a high density, urban type setting, and I assume that is what is reflected in some of the more negative reviews. But I find it to be a solid store--they have what I need. I have gotten to know many of the cashiers, who are usually efficient and generally pleasant. And the two regular fellows who bring carts back in and will assist customers to load groceries are really pleasant and so respectful. There is a SunTrust ATM inside. The bagels are excellent. I often purchase the bargain bunches of fresh flowers. These folks try hard to keep up the level of service. read more

Okay, so management of this store seems to be getting better. I haven't been treated rudely in a while, although some of the cashiers seem fairly clueless and seem to have been taught to double bag everything which just seems wasteful. You can almost always get a great deal on meat here, I suspect because there isn't a lot of product turnover and they always have to put things on markdown to get them off the shelves. read more

You guys. Seriously. We live next door to this Safeway, and the cashiers are hit or miss (some are GREAT, others are counting down the minutes until they leave--verbally)... But I have found, on more than one occasion, food that was months expired sitting on the shelves. Just today, I went to snack on carrots with a Ranch To-Go cup, the pack of which I bought YESTERDAY, and it tasted a little funny to me. I checked the expiration date, and sure enough- MAY 4, 2015. Check the post date, people: Today is August 11th. Granted, one could argue that customers should check the expiration date before purchase, but it would never even OCCUR to me that an establishment would keep 3-month-old groceries on their shelves. That's seriously wretched. Safeway, you'd better get your act together before Harris Teeter opens, or you're going to go out with a bang. And not the good kind you see during holidays. SIDENOTE: I'm 6 months pregnant, and if anything happens to this baby due to consumption of spoiled food, there will be lawsuits. I have a morbid fascination with grocery stores. Why must I purchase meat at the store? Rather, someone first has to sell it to the butcher in the store. But I digress. For yrs, I have been going to various Safeways in AA County but hadn't been to this one before. This one is not too different from others. Prices and selection are reasonable enough. This location seemed a little bigger and not as cramped. But here's what I don't get - what is up with the music in Safeway?. Seems like the problem persists at various locations. I spend enough time in Safeway to actually hear the music. The mix is horrendous. You could hear something poppy like a lighter Van Halen song to be followed by some weird ballad that is unrecognizable from a completely different genre. It's a mind-boggling face plant into rock and the change in this direction appears to have taken places about a year or two ago. Recently, I was in Safeway in Severna Pk and heard a song by The Cure that I had never heard before and I'm a fan. But I had never heard this song on the radio or anywhere. If you're going to play a song by The Cure in a store it should be a hit and upbeat (perhaps Friday I'm in Love or Numberline). The more cynical side of me believes that some evil force at Safeway's corporate office is trying to drive customers from the store by playing weird music (and their employees insane). It's probably just a personnel change and the director of in store entertainment knows nothing about music or just doesn't care enough. read more

I've pretty well covered the bases about this Safeway in the past. Bad service, bad stocking, poor cleanliness, prices above the norm in the area. As I've said the neighborhood behind the Safeway is dominated by disadvantaged people many of whom don't have their own transportation and are treated by Safeway as a captive audience. I have tried to be tactful. Now I will be clear. Crime is an issue in the immediate area. Cars have been vandalized and broken into in the parking lot. Yesterday evening there was a gun fight (quite literally) in the parking lot. Bad things can happen anywhere. In this shopping center bad things happen too often and the situation is escalating. Other than the poor and disadvantaged who walk to Safeway (with whom I empathize) there are too many alternatives in Annapolis to shop at the Forest Drive Safeway. Go elsewhere. read more

As far as products go, I don't find this Safeway to differ from any other. I'd also say the employees display a level of friendliness and helpfulness similar to other locations. The downside to this location is there is no self checkout. Additionally, they usually struggle to have enough cashiers on-hand. Thus, if time is an issue, I wouldn't come here. Incompetent baristas! When I'm in a hurry, I have to stop forgetting that the Starbucks in this store sucks! I order a White Chocolate Mocha and it's like they dump it all in there and don't even mix it. The syrup is at the bottom and the flavorless coffee part is at the top. And this isn't my first complaint about this place! You know how you can check out groceries at the Starbucks counter? I wanted to pick up some creamer for the office coffee mess and so I thought I could use my coupons, get some creamer and a coffee. NOPE. When I present the cashier the coupon, she looked at me blankly and said that she had never used coupons before. I told her to just scan it. Well she did and for some reason it didn't take. She looked at me blankly again and I told her to enter the sku number and hit "enter" (I don't understand why THIS IS SO HARD?!) She stared at the register and then had the nerve to tell me that I needed to go to customer service because she doesn't know how to handle coupons. And I lost it.....I proceeded to yell at her and ask her how is it possible for her to be employed and be THIS incompetent!!!! She is a cashier, people use coupons, and therefore she should know how to process them in a timely manner! I have no regrets for making this girl cry. She should NOT have been working unsupervised if she can't operate the register on her own. Unacceptable! read more

Eww. I hate this place. We live less than a 2 minute car drive away so sometimes you just gotta stop there to pick up something you forgot at a more friendly, well stocked normal grocery store. We literally call it "dirty Safeway " in my house. As in "Can you run and grab some chicken stock for this recipe I am already in the midst of making, because time is of the the essence"... 3 years we've lived close to this place and while it's not actually dirty anymore and they are stocked pretty well we avoid 363 days of the year. Expect super depressed (and depressing) staff that looks like their hate their lives and manage to check you out (slowly and dispassionately) without actually saying a single word to you. Forget needing help to find something. Expect stuff to be expired and overpriced. This place is just super sad. read more

I really shouldn't blame the store for the type of clientele they attract, but...yeah, it's not an area I really want to be hanging around in at night. Come by yourself during the day folks, come in groups at night. Anyway, I hate pitting stores against each other, but since we have a much nicer Safeway on the other side of town, I kind of have to. This one is kind of the one in the chain they forgot to renovate. The store itself looks tired, if you know what I mean. Generally, shopping here has been an "You're on your own, folks" experience. I hardly ever see anyone stocking shelves, the registers are generally understaffed, and 9 times out 10, someone's pulling double duty on a register and the lotto counter, so you can be waiting some time until they can help you at lotto. To be fair, I've never had an issue finding an item. They must have night crews stocking, because the only thing I've ever not found to be in stock was Haribo Gummy bears. Probably better for me anyway. The pharmacy, I have to say, is pretty good. They just renovated that area, and the staff is competent. After going there for so many years, they know me on-site for my monthly refill! I'll have to agree with other Yelpers here, I do not like the Starbucks. I've bought a few lattes, and they just haven't tasted right. Go to an independent Starbucks folks. If I had my druthers, I'd probably visit the other Safeway, but since this one is closer to home, I'm loathe to move my prescription, especially since is a good stop for a quick after-work pickups, like milk, cereal,etc. But this store needs some new energy in it! read more

I think this store has more things that cost less than your other nearby grocery stores, of your larger grocery stores, so it has a tendency to attract more people from a lower socioeconomic status. This is where I run to when I need a quick thing or two that are your standard items. read more

I am giving this location 2 stars because I can frequently find specialty ingredients here that Giant on Bay Ridge does not carry. Plus, it is closer than driving to Town Center or other stores around Annapolis. The low rating is because they typically only have 1-2 cashiers, no self-checkout, and the store seems a bit disorganized and dirty. Worst of all, I visited the store on Sunday, October 14, 2018, and upon walking in the front door, there was a potent smell of seafood. I am allergic to shellfish and the smell was so strong it had my eyes watering and I started coughing. Fortunately, I take allergy medicine daily and I was just grabbing a couple of items and heading back out the door. However, they should not be steaming or cooking those foods in the store without proper ventilation! read more

The only reasons I still shop here are the convenience, the Just4U program, and the friendly deli and seafood counter people. I shop here almost every week and have had more bad experiences than good. They CONSTANTLY stock expired food. I have complained about this on their online comment form but it never changes - you need to check expiration dates especially on any bottled drinks and packaged items. I once bought a 4 pack of izze sparkling juice that expired over a year before, and I've seen many a package of bacon outside of the expiration date (which is only ever on sale when all of their stock is close to expiration). Be careful. I would complain at the customer service desk, but no one is ever there; if you're lucky there's a surly 20 year old assistant manager who is sarcastic and acts put out because someone actually needs service. Most of their cashiers suck too but there is one lady who works weekends - I think her name is Barbara - who impresses me every time. She is wonderful and so courteous, I wish she was the manager! The other reviews are correct in stating that the clientele at this store can be a little shady but I think saying you're afraid to shop here at night is a bit dramatic. Yes, it's not in the best area, but they do have security in the parking lot and I've never felt threatened by anyone here, even at night. If it wasn't so darn close to home I'd probably shop somewhere else, but if the choice is here or the infernal Giant down the road, I'll stick to examining all the expiration dates at Safeway. read more

I give 1 star to the friendly staff/cashiers I've had for years. As far as this Safeway (SPECIFICALLY the pharmacy) ... holy crap what a poor excuse of a retail/grocery establishment. I'm a regular pharmacy customer/patient due to the fact that this Safeway is 30 seconds from my home. Let me warn you; getting a medication here same day is like a full moon! The reason I've decided to finally write a review is bc I'm so sick and tired of getting the 'it can be ready tomorrow bc we need to order more' ... like, people, I'm a regular monthly customer for the same medication that's a very common med... really? really??? Drives me crazy. So then going to pick it up, and they give me 5 pills to 'tide me over' until they get the full dose! Ridiculous! So they didn't even keep their word. Awful. Don't get Starbucks here, go to an independent Starbucks - not worth the $4+ at all. The registers are usually understocked. I just read another person's review that loves the pharmacy ... One of my go to stores mainly because of the convenience of it near my home. But what has made my experience most pleasant this past month is a cashier name Ashley. My most recent interaction was the night of 8/25/20, but every single time I come in there she's the working definition of excellent customer service. Most times come in last minute after a 12 hour shift of work, honestly not really feeling the vibe of talking to anyone at all. Then I end up in her line, her attitude is warming and open. I honestly feel I like I'm talking to a friend. Anyway, I hardly ever write reviews for anything in my life, but she's deserving of this one and I hope the company recognize her for it. If you ever have the misfortune of having to use this Safeway due to convenience just do yourself a favor and drive the extra 10 minutes to get to the one in arnold or ANY other Safeway for that matter. The amount of dirt and grime collected in the aisles and cart handles is absolutely disgusting. Employees here are non existent and either joking and laughing while customers wait or leaving the one hard working guy stuck at the register while 20 people wait in a single line. This store is terrible. People on public assistance abound. The store has no self-checkouts so that thieves will have to get past a checker at the register.
