Lovely Jennifer in pick up orders customer service has gone above and beyond being helpful, always cheerful with a positive 'can do' enthusiasm . Jennifer helped me fix an online sign in issue I was having with my pick up order. During the recent ice storm we were unable to get out of our driveway to pick up our order , I called Jennifer and she voluntered to bring our order to us after her shift ended. I think she knows I'm a senior citizen and my son has Early Onset Parkinsons Disease ,but I believe she would give everyone her joyful service . The employee tried and was nice but had no help from managers or other staff. Giant corporate (and whoever owns you), a couple words for consideration - Aldi & LIDL. The online shopping and pickup process works well. It allows me to follow my nutrition plan without the temptations of the treats that are featured at check-up and across the store. I also shop the specials and use the basket rewards so it's a good value approach. The service itself is free and specifies no tipping. There is a nominal 10 cents per paper shopping bag charge that the groceries arrive in. Using the substitution feature allows me to select and alternate product if what I want isn't in stock. The in-store experience over the years has been disappointing. Using the online and pick-up approach allows me to avoid it. read more

Very limited selection. Always sold out of items and the store is very outdated. This store needs to expand. I can never depend on running up to the store for an item as I'm not sure it will be in stock. I truly wish a new chain would be built in this area. This store would be out of business. Self checkout has gotten worse here, the scale is super sensitive and if you take a second too long you need help from a clerk. The clearance items almost never scan or if they do its the full price and the checkout persons are too busy to help you with them. After being told to "just scan it then we'll fix it" two other registers to buy one item it wasnt worth it and paid $10 for eggs instead of $4 for eggs and the item I wanted. read more

I am really pleased with the latest updates at our Giant grocery store. They have updated the lighting, the shelving and the cash registers for self check out have been updated with the new arrangement. There's never really a line and there's more cashiers here each time I've gone in the past two weeks. This Giant now has a cleaner look and organized much better than before. Even the seafood department is looking great and not smelling like stinky seafood. I used to try to avoid this store but now I'm actually changing my shopping habits to go here more often, mostly because of the cash register situation it is easier to get in and out. I wish they had more small shopping carts but unfortunately people seem to steal, or borrow, them and push them into the neighborhood next-door. I know the shopping carts are very expensive so hopefully they come up with a remedy for that! read more

It looks like things are changing for the better. The new manager has brought an upbeat, friendly and helpful attitude to this store and it appears it be trickling down to the staff and to the customers. It is a joy to walk into this location now. I am really seeing a difference and am so pleased. What is still needed is for corporate to upgrade the self checkout registers. They are clunky and outdated. You have to press the screen multiple times for the register to acknowledge anything. Customers get very frustrated (and unfortunately blame the employees who are there just trying to help). The registers at Whole Foods are much, much easier to use. Customer satisfaction would go up significantly if these registers were easier to use. read more

I have been going to the Bay Ridge Giant for decades, as it's the only one between work and home. In general, it's OK and in the last few years has improved, but some things seem to remain consistent. Sadly, the meat mostly comes in already vac packed, so you usually get what they get. Frozen produce apparently doesn't come in often enough to keep it stocked. Regular produce and fruit has been fair. Just this morning I opened a container of strawberries I purchased last night at about 5:30 pm. Pre-mother's day breakfast component for brioche French toast. They were moldy anywhere they were touching each other. We have had rotting problems with Giant's produce across the board. Their distribution chain seems sorely lacking- or is it me? Organic, high dollar and it didn't even make it 18 hours? It's my fault- I should have gone to Sam's. I keep giving them a chance and am up to about Chance #158. I need to become more steadfast in my commitment to Sam's. Their meat is WAYYYY better as well. read more

Inadequate staffing causing long lines. Cleanliness isn't a priority at this location. Rude employees who are put out when asked for assistance. The scanner tool system and self check out set up is exceptionally inefficient and typically doesn't work well. I do not plan on patronizing this store again as there are other options. read more

I use Giant Food curbside pickup on Forest Drive regularly. I miss ordered items (out of stock) which I know are on the shelves when I go in to check. This occurs frequently yet there is little recourse. Staff in such a hurry that I rarely get my complete order? This Giant Food is very close to our daughter's home. We finally stopped in during our most recent visit with her. There were two frozen foods that weren't available at our local Giant and I wanted to check to see if this store had them. The seafood item we were looking for wasn't available here, but it's not one of the most familiar brands so that wasn't a surprise. But they had plenty of the other frozen item we were looking for, which made us happy. Our daughter picked up a few items too. The store seemed clean and well-stocked. The self-checkout line was somewhat long, probably because it was a holiday week-end, but we found a staffed register with no line. One negative of this store was our cashier acted like she would rather be almost anywhere else so no greeting, no smile. We were on our way to pick up carry-out so didn't have a lot of time to explore the store, but what we did see seemed nice. read more

Another update from a regular customer. The grocery scheme in Annapolis has changed a little. Shoppers Food Warehouse is closed. An Aldi and a Lidl are coming but still at least a year away. Giant continues to be our regular shopping place. A little Fresh Market, monthly at Sam's Club, and the odd stop at Grauls. Giant continues as it has. Good selection of food. Clean. Generally but not always perfect customer service. The signs out front have pretty well solved the problem of rude, entitled people parking in the pick-up zone. Giant Food on Bay Ridge Rd is our regular grocery and we're happy about that. We've been long time users of the "membership" program. These keep track of what you buy and send you special offers. In return for data harvesting *sigh* you get better pricing on some items. In addition you can load electronic coupons on your account from the Giant website. Fifteen minutes a week saves us a good bit of money. Further, you accumulate points that save money on gas at nearby Shell gas stations. We regularly save 0.30 per gallon and sometimes 0.40 per gallon. This really adds up. Between lower prices, coupons, and gas a little information about how much broccoli I buy. We shop around. We keep returning to the Bay Ridge Rd Giant Food. read more

The location is super convenient to my home and they just had their big grand reopening last weekend. The staff is helpful and always busy looking - no one is just standing around. Everything seems to be stocked well and organized. I've been multiple times and different days of the week, it's always clean and full. Love the Giant rewards points as well! read more

A slightly below average supermarket. I usually come here to get groceries for the week since it is very close to my apartment. Unfortunately, this store is not managed very well. lots of items are out of stock, the store is not very clean, staff members are not sure where products are, and the meat and seafood containers are usually found empty without someone to help. I am grateful that I can usually still find what I am looking for, but my trips to the grocery store take more time because I have to properly wipe down my cart and look for most of the products myself. Some of the cashiers are very friendly and nice which is great! However, this store can make more improvements by hiring more managers, and educating their staff on where products are. read more

Sincerely the worst grocery store in a 10 mile radius around Annapolis. Only go here out of the desperation of convenience, as this is only grocery in bay ridge area. 9/10 I walk in to Giant, and walk out with about 40% of my list. The produce is awful, and partially stocked at VERY best. Today I walked in, and it looks as though there was a major hurricane over the weekend. Almost no produce was stocked, and employees/ boxes were everywhere. They certainly made it known that they had the right away. Couldn't this be done early in the morning, or before store hours? This place has continually gone down the tubes, and it is becoming more, and more frustrating to even make an attempt to go here out of convenience. I like this Giant and go here often. It's the one closests to my house and like Nina somtimes I shop commissary but the one in Annapolis is just not that good and the one at Fort Meade is amazing but too far. Giant is a great option and usually carries everything I need and want. If not I have requested them to carry items and they have been good about getting them in. Prices are good too expecially if you read ahead on the specials. They also have a fast check out (you beep all your stuff, bag as you shop, pay on your way out and your cart is already bagged). It's nice. I like it. It gets busy for holidays and pay days, but not too bad. They normally have rotisserie too for those nights you just don't feel like cooking. So they also have a little organics/naturals section and I also like their store brand products that are natural. They keep growing that section which I am a big fan of. What else... seafood, I would stick to purchasing elsewhere, but they do have live lobsters. In the freezer section they have an amazing ice cream selection - always a treat!!! All in all for not being a huge store, they have a great selection and they have a pharmacy and a deli and the seafood and the fresh veggies which I love. I do the majority of my shopping at the military commissary but when that trip is not worth the savings, I like to think GIant is a good option. It's convenient and just down the road and has a great selection. If I only want to make one stop, I go to Giant. They have these nifty little scanners that allows you to scan and bag as you shop. That way when you get to the checkout stand, all you have to do is pay the cashier. Brilliant. It also lets me pretend I work in a grocery store and that was my dream "let's play store" go-to past time when I was a kid. read more

I shop at this location on a weekly occasion. I've never encountered the issues that some others have described. The store is always stocked, employees have been very pleasant, self check out is awesome, store is always clean. The only issue I've had is with other shoppers being rude. Living in this area for years, you kinda understand that the pretentious attitudes come with the area. This is a great location, fantastic store, wonderful employees and checks off all the boxes in my opinion of what you'd expect. The parking lot is a disaster at peak hours but that's understandable. All around solid grocery store, with plenty of options, fresh seafood, meat and produce. read more

Giant Food Bay Ridge Annapolis - Zero for customer service. On a recent shopping trip their credit card terminals were not functioning properly. As a result, I was charged three times for my order. I presented my bank statements to store management and requested credits. After a couple of days, I was told "there's nothing we can do. Call the number on the back of your credit card and ask them to reverse the charges." Why was I responsible for correcting their problems ? Only the veteran staff at this store provide any semblance of customer service. The newer staff is ill trained and ill mannered. read more

Many times before and after Covid 19 they are out of items that are commonly stocked The cashiers do well when no crowd, otherwise lousy On weekends when they know the store is busy, there are often lines in the aisles Today I waited 10 minutes. There were 5 cashiers when I got in line. Lines in all extending into the shelved aisles. The cashier in one announced very loudly, I'm going on a break and shut down. I frequently shop at the local Giant Food grocery store and every time I shop there, I try my best to leave as quickly as possible. There are better grocery stores in Annapolis, but for those in the Bay Ridge area, it's what we have. The shopping center is okay overall. There is plenty of parking outside but in my opinion, there isn't enough places to place your shopping cart in the lot. There also needs to be more lighting for the evening time. The store is clean and typically stocked well. I have gone in the store a few times where there was a lack of produce so that was frustrating. I have tried the bakery and deli services and had no issues. I have not tried the seafood service so I can't comment on that. The biggest issue with the store is the check out lines. There is always a long line for check out. The self-check out lines are always long, and they have few employee check out lines where someone else is checking out your grocery bags. It leads to long wait times and a lot of frustration. I have also gone through the self-check out line and there are no bags to actually bag the groceries. There is a big positive about the store though. One of the security guards (the gentleman who wears the sunglasses) is a sincere and caring man. On top of making sure that the store is guarded, he welcomes everyone in with a smile and will offer free fruit to the children. Overall, the grocery store is okay. The check-out lines need to be looked into to make this store at the very least, average. read more

You need to go back to the old registers, now they are like Safeway's. They are horrible. It takes three times as long to check out with that type of checkout register for self check. I know I am an Insta cart shopper and I've been doing it for two years. This used to be one of my favorite stores because it was so easy to get out of now it's going to suck. I've taken to shopping elsewhere for major grocery trips. I only use this place when I have to. (I've seen management be verbally abusive to employees in front of customers on more than one occasion). If you can get by with the self checkout and you only need a couple things it's okay. If you need to use the human lines it's awful. They never have enough staff and those at the checkout move at a glacial pace. As I stand here it took 5 minutes to complete my shop and 15 minutes waiting to be checked out. I'm still waiting. If you see skeletal remains wearing a green jacket at aisle 9 I didn't make it out. read more

It is a pleasure for me to say how much I love shopping at this store. It is clean, bright, has great selections, a good quality of food, is generally attractive, and has very friendly customer service representatives. The leadership is great as well. The store manager (Marianne) takes time to reach out to customers and see that their needs are met to satisfaction. She is a stellar performer and is very beholding. I have lived in this community for many years and have an extensive background in customer service, and have worked in that industry. This store is constantly improving and is on the move. I cannot say enough about the work and progress that is being done/made to satisfy my personal shopping needs. For me, there is no other grocery store. For my first review, I could take aim at one of the myriad restaurants in the DC/Baltimore/Annapolis corridor, or maybe one of the many vibrant, local theater offerings ...but no...I am going to actually review a grocery store. And not one of your upscale, snobatoriums, either. I'm going to review Giant Food. I am pretty pedestrian. I've been shopping this Giant for going on eleven years now. Not out of loyalty so much as convenience. And that is how this particular Giant has built their business...on convenience. BUT...miracle of miracles...this winter the powers-that-be decided to renovate. Sparing no expense, upper management descended upon this fortress of mediocrity, whipping listless managers and employees into shape, converting displays, adding technology and infusing the staff with a sense of urgency and dedication that I would not think possible. This lasted for several months. UNTIL... Upper management, their jobs completed, left, riding into the sunset. And, after making sure that their corporate overlords had actually left, the staff of the new and improved Giant, fell into the same comfortable pattern of indifference and laziness that has been their hallmark for years. Only now, they were doing it in a new facility, surrounded by better technology that served as a bitter reminder to customers of a world that might-of-been. So, with that background, let's take a look at the remnants of a better world that never actually stood a chance. Walk from the parking lot towards the Giant. Weave your way through a seemingly permanent line of cars parked in the fire lane. They're always there. At this point, Giant management might shrug and say, "Hey, that's not OUR fault that people don't park in the parking lot." Yes it is. Tell your manager that if he's going to constantly smoke in front of the store, he can at least chase cars away. Oh, and that's the other thing...if you can ever count LESS than five employees smoking out front while loudly complaining about their jobs, I'll give you my firstborn. By the way, stop flicking your cigarette butts on the sidewalk. The first thing you see is the new, high-tech deli kiosk. That has been out-of-order since installation. Anyhoo... Produce section. No real improvement in the quality of produce. Hit or miss. Mostly miss. In the market for grapes or berries? Check them carefully for mold. Bagged salads are often at or near expiration dates. Garlic and potatoes are either spouting or rotten whenever I get them home. Your apples may be okay now, but the cashiers usually carelessly toss them into the bag area, bruising them, so it really doesn't matter how careful you are during the selection process. Directions to the bread aisle should come with a bus schedule, as it is at the opposite freaking side of the store. Brilliant. Deli. This one is, and always has been, a real test of wills between employees and customers. Generally, the deli is manned by three listless associates. They are not thrilled with their jobs. You could try to use the new number system, but the employees won't use it. You could try the kiosk by the deli, since the one in the front doesn't work. But no matter how you request your meat sliced, you're gonna get it the same way. Most of the deli employees don't like to thinly slice the cold cuts since it requires more effort to operate the slicer that way. Therefore, no matter how thin you request slices, it will always be done the same way...in thick, clumsy slabs. A stunning display of apathy and inefficiency. The deli is Achilles Heel of the Giant. And that is saying something. The meat section is vastly improved. The butchers seem to be fairly enthusiastic. Checkout. I don't even know where to begin. They've added a ton of self-checkout lines BUT they've reduced the number of cashiers. Now, actually, that would normally be a good thing, because Giant cashiers can be slow and bordering on surly, no matter what their stupid slogan states. Self-checkout does not always work properly, requiring the help of a slow and surly key-bearer. Let's talk about the self-checkout guns. Fantastic concept! I walk around the store, scanning my groceries and bagging them as I go. Now all I need to do is pay and I'm out of here. Wait. I'm stuck behind five people who are forced to self-checkout at the register because Giant has four cashiers open during rush-hour. Now all the time I spent self-scanning is wasted. I emailed Giant headquarters suggesting that they treat the lines like an EZ-Pass. I can scan and then pay in any line OR at a line dedicated to the hand-held scanners. "Great," they said, "but we need you to talk the manager into that idea." Um...doesn't he work for you? Besides, he's outside smoking...again. Get my groceries, and go outside. Run the gauntlet of smoking employees, edge in between two cars idling in the fire lane and peek out to make sure no cars are coming. I'm home free. Safeway is just up the road. read more

I just moved down the st frm this store. I hate going there but also hate Safeway more since their RAP gvs me migraines and wish I cld afford to shop at Grauls which is the coolest store ever. I agree with everything all the reviews hv said. Except I think the Bakery cld offer much better products and shld since there r no bakeries anymore! U cannot find anything in this store! Nothing makes sense. Amys froz fds r up frt and not in the isle with the other froz stuff?? WHERE's the bread? That's just an example. I hv learned NOT to shop during prime times or u wait in line. Checkers hv been ok. At least they put the bags in ur cart. This they do not do on KI and elsewhere. So things cld be worse. And if they treat me as anomymous, I don't really care. Terrible customer service!!! I moved here in 2008 and shopped here for convenience. The service has gone down significantly over the past year, seriously! My husband and I made the decision last summer to stop shopping there altogether even though it is 5 minutes away. We have been going to Graul's on Taylor Avenue since the fall and we love it!! Graul's is such a breath of fresh air for us...what a difference. Giant's employees are slow, indifferent, clueless and never helpful. When did they stop bagging groceries?? Most of the younger cashiers have no work ethic at all. The customer service desk is terrible. The one older lady there at the desk is fine, but man, everyone else there is miserable. What did me in was the young cashier I had stopped bagging my groceries after I paid her and moved on to the next customer...leaving me to bag all of my groceries. I was livid. She didn't help at all. Then there was an employee who didn't say a word to me, not one single word, when I went to return the carpet cleaner I rented. Not a "good morning" or a "thank you"...nothing. She treated me with such an attitude! I know an older employee from this Giant and he said management is pretty awful, which may explain everyone's terrible attitude there, but still, the people really need to improve how they treat the customers.
