We used Saf Keep for some temporary storage needs while we were moving to a new house. The rental process was super easy, cost was comparable to other facilities I checked, and all the people I interacted with were super helpful and friendly. I am very happy with the exceptional service I got at Safekeep 3rd st oakland. My move was a two part process-- after the first trip the movers recognized the size was not adequate. The office staff couldn't have been nicer adjusting the unit and price for the bigger size. I've stored my belongings at Saf Keep Oakland for almost 3 years and I highly recommend them. I always felt everything was safe while it was there! The facility is monitored 24 hours a day. The employees were always friendly, yet professional and always helpful when needed. Marta has been the manager for over 15 years and is present at the facility. I have had to move out of state for a bit. Thus the need for storage. Saf Keep has a free truck for moving, a really nice staff, and units which are clean, and safe! The clean and safe aspects of Saf Keep are particularly important for me. I had stuff in another facility and could not believe the filth. I made my first out of state move recently and everything that could go wrong, went wrong with the exception of Safe Keep storage. Sandy assisted me with obtaining my storage unit over the phone prior to my arrival and allowed me to arrange my friend to pick up the key and code ahead of time. We arrived much later then expected on a Sunday (2 hours before closing) and had some challenges with the size if my truck and trailer navigating the property. Not only did Gabriel (Saf Keep employee) go above and beyond in helping with the truck and trailer (that got stuck and had to be manually moved) he also helped us get most of my belongings in my unit (I had a 22' truck, a lot of stuff). This is the definition of expecptional customer service from beginning to end. I hope that I won't need Gabriels assistance again however if I do I know that I can count on him and Saf keep helping me in any way possible. In addition the facility was clean, well lit and very secure. I highly recommend Saf keep to help you manage your storage needs. And what a great welcome to California. read more

Greetings Yelpers , I have read some great reviews about this place but I'm sure none of those folks have been a customer as long as I have. I have been a SAF keep storage customer since 2009. They have a wonderful staff person who works on Sunday's. I can't say much for the others, the manager Marta is very non compassionate toward her customers at this location. They have no appreciation for long term customers. It's all about the money to this location manager. Attitude from this management is if you don't like it move. Having spent nearly $100,000 over the years and not once offered a one time or anniversary discount or anything else says to me it's about greed. They don't offer water anymore it's a dollar or something like that or coffee after the morning pot gets cold. I'm in the process of looking for a better place to move my things. Somewhere my long term business will be appreciated. Oh one more thing that number posted in the office to contact the owner is a joke because no one ever returns your call. So shop around before choosing this location. Third street in Oakland because your business will not be appreciated I can assure you of that. If you're wondering why I stay it's because I'm busy and haven't had time and access to the help I need to move. I do hope Marta doesn't retaliate or her employee at the desk I believe her name is Elizabeth. Everyone else there are great folks but those two are greedy, selfish, rude and self centered people. read more

There are cheaper facilities around, but they don't have the access hours, scrupulously clean facilities, great maintenance, choice of dollies and multiple elevators that this place does. I've used Saf Keep Storage for over a year, and the only problem I've had is with other renters occasionally hogging the elevator. The staff has been polite, attentive and very capable. I relocated to Oakland from Los Angeles just recently - late August 2009. In preparation for this move, my local contact put me in touch with Saf Keep. I spoke with Sandy via tele, pre-move to determine availability, size and price requirements. Sandy was very pleasant, professional and patient with all questions asked. I had the opportunity to meet Sandy upon my arrival with moving truck and life's belongings in tow. Sandy and colleagues could not be more accomodating, (I was offered a 6mo 25% discount off published flat rate and was even given a free car-washing detail and a storage lock!) If that wasn't enough after unloading at the storage unit and at home location, a call was received by Sandy indicating that she had determined once closing out her cash drawer, that during my confusion upon check-in, I inadvertently over paid $20 and that the refund would be available for pick-up at my convenience. Saf Keep just keeps on 'showing up' with kindess - a month ago I received a call from Sandy advising that during a local drawing I won a $100 Arco prepaid gas card. Timing couldn't be more perfect - I was driving back to LA to tie up some loose ends within a few days and the prepaid gas card was a god-send. My latest interaction was on today when I stopped in to pay monthly rental. As I entered the office, both front office personnel were engaged with a customer on the phone and one at front counter. Despite their involvement, both workers acknowledged me with a friendly hello and they would be with me shortly. The in-office customer had retrieved a couple cups of water finished her business and was about to pour another cup of water when Martha (Saf Keep manager) polietly and surprising to me asked customer if she coulod get her a bottle of water to go, customer was delighted and said yes. Martha returned with *2 bottles of water. In conclusion, since my arrival to East Bay, I have had contact with Saf Keep on 4 or 5 ocassions, each exchange (whether it be on tele or LIVE) has exceeded my customer expectations. This is a very safe and very clean facility - well-maintained. Great security and very nice people. It is never crowded so you always have good access. Plenty of elevators for upstairs storage, plus nice roll-ups on the asphalt level. They have many carts for moving your stuff. And a free van you can borrow to help in your move! Saf Keep Storage has truly gone the extra mile to resolve my situation. They are are now staffed adequately and are very serious about providing the finest service they can. They compensated me for two months storage and helped me move my things into another unit. It all went very smoothly. And, of course , they did repair their roof, so no more leaks! My unit was only very lightly impacted by the leak and nothing of consequence was damaged. Plus they have, if not climate control, exactly, a very clean and dry building which is earthquake retrofitted and carefully maintained. The staff there feel like family and I really appreciate their warmth and caring attitude. And thanks to Paul, the general manager, for helping to keep me happy as a customer and seek a resolution that benefited all parties. After having visited many other storage companies I feel this is definitely in the top two in Oakland, for sure! read more

Such a great experience. Sandy and Edwin were amazing. I got the free truck with move in and didn't realize my insurance form wasn't up to date. sandy let me sign into my insurance there to print. I appreciate that they need to keep their records straight and at the same time were willing to help me print the current form. Saved me on that one! In addition, halfway through the days I realized that a 10x10 wouldn't be big enough and Sandy worked magic in the background while I kept packing and moving. By the time I came back she had all the paperwork and money figured out and saved me a ton! Can't say enough good stuff about the team at Saf Keep. Would recommend them to anyone in need of storage. Absolutely top-notch customer service, which is very hard to find now. They treated me like a VIP and answered every question I had before I even had to ask. Every employee was kind, gracious and helpful. The place is very very clean, the front desk is extremely organized and efficient. I am very happy I chose them. Moving is really stressful and I had a horrible experience with Public Storage. This place was like a complete opposite of that. They even have hot coffee and comfy chairs in the lobby. It really is the little things that count. This seems like a very well run business and they haven't lost thier humanity. Also the location is very convenient for me.
