Came here for Father's Day and it was so special! This was the first place my family and I went out to and it was spectacular! The service was amazing and our waiter was awesome. I took my grandson to the Daddle River Cafe yesterday. Heard good things about their brunch. My grandson ordered dish with eggs, chorizo, beans, potatoes. He said he was good. I ordered an omelette with cheese, bacon and spinach. It was awful!! VERY dry. I felt like it was pre made than thrown into the microwave. I have now been there twice, once for dinner. Wasn't that impressed with that meal either. I won't be going back. I have to comment about the work staff. They were wonderful. Could not have been nicer. FANTASTIC. The Asian steak noodle bowl was wonderful. It was cooked absolutely perfectly. Which is quite an accomplishment, because it's a thin slice of skirt steak. I've eaten at the Cafe several times. Since the expansion I find something missing. I ordered the Wedge salad today. It was soooooo sad. The food last night was the worst I have ever eaten in my life the French fries were soggy the fish was tasteless the water glass were too small so the waiter had to keep coming back to fill them. He told us they did not have enough carafes to leave them on the table . This restaurant is fit for foodies. The strip mall entrance makes for an unexpectedly lack luster entrance But don't be deceived . The food was exceptional. We had the pork Milanese and crab cakes with a side if Scallops. We started with the burrata which may have been the best I have ever had. The owner is the chef who runs the Saddle River Inn restaurant, so you know it is going to be good. It has replaced the long-standing Saddle River Deli as the informal eating joint in Saddle River and had a lot of competition to go up against. However SRC holds strong with excellent food and service. Nice and relaxed vibe. Came for lunch twice. The veggie burger is probably the best veggie burger I have ever had in my life. read more

Came here on a Saturday afternoon for brunch with my mom. It was pretty empty when we got there, and then soon figured out we beat the rush. By the time our food arrived, the place was packed. I got one of the specials of the day which was a burger with cheese, bacon and aioli. It was cooked perfectly and tasted great. It's definitely a place I'm coming back to for brunch. read more

Nothing special about this place - I struggled to find something to order on the unappetizing menu. I selected the burger & it was awful not to mention overcooked. It seemingly took forever to prepare & get to the table considering there was almost nobody left in the restaurant at the very end of this lunch service. The Cafe Burger is two small patties on bun with sesame seeds. Two small patties on a bun for an "upscale cafe" - just terrible, an embarassment. The Daves Double I ate at Wendys last week was every bit as good if not better. The Daves Dbl is served on a tasty brioche roll. I told the people I came with, "next time we'll go back to the diner" I would not be returning & this place is their go to spot - - Certainly,NOT a great endorsement. However, our server Ms Keegan was awesome thats who the third star was for, she was excellent!! read more

After reading the reviews and knowing the reputation of the chef i was so excited to visit here to have lunch. i got there early so it was not so busy, i ordered the salmon avocado toast and the other person ordered a salad with added skirt steak. It got busy fast but i felt we had our orders in before it got crazy. My toast was very cold and chewy like it had been sitting and the skirt steak wound up piled in a corner of the salad because it was loaded with fat. Finally a local cafe with both amazing food AND coffee! Been awhile waiting for a place like this to open up. This will be our new go to breakfast spot for sure. We had a open faced Reuben which was amazing but I think the omlet was even better! The cold brew and espresso were also awesome. Definitely slightly more expensive than most but very worth it in my opinion. Can't wait to try more of the menu in the future. The only bad thing I can say is that there is no high chairs for kids. What a great find. Had the open-faced Reuben with Old Bay Fries. This was my first Reuben and I'm glad I waited. The corned beef is homemade, the slaw was a little sweet ant spicy, the cheese meltingly delicious. My friend had the Benny, which she also loved. Maybe a little pricey for lunch but worth it. This place is an absolute MUST visit! The Coffee program/baristas and the fresh-pressed juices(try the watermelon/kiwi/agave juice) are the first indicator this place is special. The food(try the neuske's bacon omelette and the cafe Burger) are what told us there is nothing else for lunch destinations operating at this level in the area. The Burger was perfection with old-bay shoestring fries and the waffles with Valrhona chocolate for dessert were super "more-ish"! The decor is modern and beautifully appointed. The chef/owner is the eminent Jamie Knot of Saddle River Inn and the co-owner operates the best-loved restaurant Cellar 335, Jersey City. First time here for dinner and pleasantly surprised they renovated the whole restaurant last year. Still casual but beautiful colors and lighting. Our server Margo was wonderful - very attentive and friendly. Started with the crispy cauliflower. Never had anything like it and I've been in the NYC/NJ dining scene for 25 years. Where have you been all my life??!! So good. The Pork Milanese, and potato chip crusted cod over sautéed kale - outstanding. We will be coming back often. We've been to Saddle River Inn over a dozen times. Love both but I think this is where Chef Jamie gets to explore his creativity. Keep it going. read more

We had an early dinner at the Saddle River Café on a Saturday night in November. I was adverse to schlepping somewhere down 17 , 4 or a bridge or tunnel for a quiet decent night out because I had spent the day at the Moma and had enough of it. We arrived at 5 pm at opening time. We were greeted promptly and then seated in the forward area of the restaurant. We watched the maître de great a steady stream of guests. A great spot to be situated if you like to people watch and want to see everyone who comes in to the restaurant. There a good amount of tables with comfortable chairs. We never felt crowded even though the place was almost seated to capacity. The room acoustics were very good so it was easy to talk and it kept your conversations your own which I guess is due to the acoustic panels in the ceiling For me and my date $18 for the burger cafe sauce, cheddar bacon-onion jam on a sesame brioche bun. It was tasty, moist and tall well-constructed cohesive patty, the bun was fresh golden and buttery I will remember next to order the meat medium rare as to give the burger a chance to really shine. A good side of very crispy flavorful Brussels sprouts which I enjoyed to the last leaf. I pondered having the strudel but my date was glaring at me because they were full so I went with a melon ball sized ball of honey dew melon sorbet. There was maybe two mouthfuls worth of sorbet which is about all I desired. We took home a little morsel of leftover burger for a breakfast treat the next day. It went well with coffee and the morning soccer games. My date had the shoestring fry's. I stole a few from her plate. They were crisp and warm served on the side of the pate next to the burger. Let me preface this by saying we have been to the Saddle River Café many times and have had great experiences in the past. Unfortunately this last visit did not hold up to the standards we are accustom to at their establishment. Today we brought a few family members with us that flew in from the West Coast and we were so excited for a wonderful brunch. The server started off the day by stating to us that they have no seafood at all.... no lobster, no salmon, and no crab. A little disappointing, but we can get over it. We then all ordered freshly squeezed orange juice that is usually delicious! However, everyones orange juice was so tart, they made grapefruits look sweet! Next we decided on the Bennies House and French Toast, and to our dismay, they no longer serve french toast during the week. The third disappointment of our brunch. Regardless, we ordered the Bennies House and a side or corn beef, which is usually very savory, pulled or shredded and very tender. About 10 minutes before our meals come out of the kitchen, they place the side or corn beef on the table to get cold. The corned beef came out diced and extremely fatty. I explained to the server that we've never had it served this way, and she returned it to the kitchen and brought out dry, tough, cubed corned beef. Not what I was expecting or have ever received from them before. The worst part was our Bennies House which is usually fresh eggs Benedict served on a parmesan biscuit with rosemary ham. We also got a side of bacon. The bacon was so over cooked that it felt like I was eating peanut brittle. And the biscuit was cold and hard, and the eggs were so over cooked that the yolks did not run at all. I don't know if they are getting comfortable with their success, but the day after Christmas at the Saddle River Café made eating breakfast at McDonalds sound more appealing. read more
