I grew up on Tops Diner but everytime I've dined here it's always been a home run. Last visit, I came for breakfast. They were crazy busy and the waitress was even a little rude because it was the end of her shift but that a Jersey diner for you! We still got everything we needed and the food was delicious. Giving it 3 stars cause it's a good place but the food is average. Not that there's anything wrong with the place. I got the basic 2 eggs with a side of home fries and turkey sausage plus a side of french onion soup. They have one of the best French onion soup and is the star of the meal. Eggs were good (you can't mess that up). Sausage was alright. Didn't have that snap but was inedible. If I rated the home fries alone it would be a 1 star. They were just sad. Had a coffee and orange juice and it's unanimous that all diner coffee sucks. Service was prompt. Sat at the bar and the gentleman there was nice, kind, and took my order as soon as I was ready. The Vegetable panini was to die for and someone else had the pulled pork sandwich with grilled pineapple. She also went the extra mile for me- the Diner doesn't really have Vegan food, but Nicole found that they do serve Vegan Chicken nuggets- you can get them Buffalo style, too. For some reason, mine didn't come with the sauce, but no matter- I added Chulula sauce. Had mine in a wrap with lettuce, tomato and onion- crazy-good!! Stopped in for a quick lunch the other day. Good diner fare here. Had the cheese burger deluxe with fries. It was perfectly okay. I asked for medium and it was done perfectly medium! Fries were fine too. My partner had chicken soup and chicken salad sandwich on rye bread. She reports a perfectly delicious lunch. I had decent fried clams here a few years ago, so when my wife and I visited relatives in the cemetery, we had lunch at the Saddle Brook Diner. The place is clean, the staff is nice, service was decent. We started off with nice salads that were very fresh and nicely presented;they were the best part of our lunch. My wife ordered grilled cheese with bacon and French fries while I opted for the fried clams I enjoyed on my last visit. My fried clams were tough and greasy as were the onion rings on the top. My wife's grilled cheese was very greasy too. The fries were OK for both of us. All in all, everything but the salads was overly greasy and both of us had indigestion after. read more

This place is an old reliable spot for whatever you feel like you want to eat. In my opinion they make some of the best matzoh ball soup around. Their soup has vegetables and real chicken chunks. This is probably my dad's favorite place to eat. I am a fan as well because my son loves the trains in one of the rooms. If you are not familiar, one room has a couple circular train tracks elevated around the edges of the room. I typically go for one of the breakfast specials. Some have included eggs with hollandaise sauce on a large English muffin, specialty omelets, and breakfast burritos and wraps. They are flexible when it comes to custom orders as well. For lunch, I recommend the gyro platter. Not surprising in view of my Greek heritage but hey it's good! Basically, I think you can't go wrong with any choice. There's about 5-6 people around the cashier waiting for whatever it is that they're waiting for. The older woman hostess who was standing right next to the younger one was fiddling with receipt machine and did not acknowledge me. I was legit standing right in front of her. Following the old dude leaving, the young hostess and the old hostess began to have a conversation. I'm standing there like a moron for approximately 15 seconds and I'm not acknowledged until the old hostess lady looks at me. I found the look bizarre so I whipped out my card to pay (I guess I am a mind reader). Handed me my receipt and I left. Yea I get it it's Saturday but you can do a better job of managing the people around the point of sale. Be a little more attentive with everyone around. There are some good things and some bad things about the Saddle Brook Diner. The biggest problem is the attitude problems with 1/2 the wait staff. You cant sit there and have a meal without one or a group of them -always- complaining about how much money they made or this table left me only that amount, they think about themselves and nothing else. They need to learn have a personality. There one waiter that's cool. First day there, waitress was slow as xxx 20 minutes 6 tables and none of them had their order taken. Later we find out that's the one that complains all the time about anything that enters hair empty blonde head. Complains and then thinks the mirror in the desert refrig. is her personal makeup counter and starts to brush her hair for about 20 minutes in a food prep area, no one says anything! Food is good and well presented but don't expect 99% of the wait staff to know anything about it. They go through their motions and even in 24 hours they don't know you, so that's a big minus. The food well presented and it has good presentation. So best part of the kitchen is the food that comes out. There are some bus boys that work hard and are always attentive. What brought the place down is the attitude of these employee's that most of them seem to care about themselves. They complain about not making the they were making pre-covid and are totally cluessless that customers are paying $15 for something that used to $9. Ordered Long Islands and asked the price before I decide to order more than 1 round. Waitress said $10 and when I got my bill they were $15. This is one of my favorite diners and go to places to eat. The service and food are always excellent, and the prices aren't too bad either. It is usually pretty busy no matter what time you go but everything always moves quickly. I've only had a few different things from the menu, but they each tasted great. My favorite thing to get from here is the BBQ chicken panini. It is the best and most filling panini I have had. I usually get it with curly fries with cheese. These fries are delicious and you get a huge portion. The portion you get for the price you pay is a really good deal. I've also had the happy waitress which is a grilled cheese with bacon. I am a huge fan of Saddle Brook Diner. The menu is quite varied and I have yet to have an unsatisfactory meal. I especially like breakfast items that, in true diner fashion, are available all day. I like to treat myself to their eggs benedict with hash browns - consistently first rate! My wife is a big fan of their panninis made with a variety of fillings. And I have to mention the baked goods and a big variety of special desserts that are on display as you enter. Yum!! Every server we have ever had is pleasant, courteous, and attentive.
