While on the second day of a leader summit, we stopped to check out Sabor. Located on the ground floor of the Paseo del Norte Hotel, we found it much easier to get into this one...but the reservation helped out. Compared to Ambar, down the street it was less busy. We were seated, and served water to begin with. Our server, Mario was friendly, and took our drink and lunch orders. The menu items and pictures of those items were available on digital pars We started off with some queso fundido. The queso was good, but a tad bit watery towards the end For lunch I went with the Hatch burger, which was a two patty cheese, hatch green chilies, and it really good and very filling. The tacos looked good. Liz chose the three shrimp tacos plate, which came with a side of green chile rice. It did not last long on her plate. Unlike many of the other locations downtown this place did not have much on the non-alcoholic drink menu, and did not have a lunch menu or special, or discount for military. I came to Sabor on the recommendation of friends. I thought the food was excellent. The short rib enchiladas were delicious. They appeared small on the platter, but were very filling. I absolutely loved the plantains as a side dish. Almost like a dessert, I'd go there again just for the plantains. This place could have easily had 4-stars had it not been for the dishonest and shady business practices: GOOD: - Convenient location (if staying at the Plaza Del Norte - Autograph Hotel). - Restaurant was clean and well maintained. - Quality of food was delicious. - Hostess (order taker) was friendly. - Buffet option available. - Early open time 6:30am for those who have to check-out early. BAD: - Ordered our food to-go (to take up to our room) and one of the plastic utensil sets was previously used by another guest as the plastic was torn open and a fork was missing. - They forgot to include the meat (bacon) in one of the two Classic Breakfast's that were ordered and had to go back downstairs to get it. - They only included one slice of toast cut into two pieces (the picture on the menu tablet shows two slices cut into four. I didn't go back downstairs as I already went down after they forgot the bacon and didn't realize the toast was missing until I was already back in my room. - Toast for both orders was barely toasted (see pic). UGLY: - ***BUYER BEWARE***: For $15.00, the "Classic Breakfast" is supposed to come with Two eggs, bacon or sausage, SABOR POTATOES, toast or biscuit. However, I noticed they charged me for two orders of Sabor potatoes ($5 each), in addition to the two Classic Breakfasts (see pic). I didn't realize this when I signed the original receipt as they didn't give me an itemized receipt (I assumed everything was accurate). When we were checking out of the hotel, I stopped by Sabor and told the hostess I would like to see the itemized receipt and I confirmed my suspicion. The hostess said that she was advised by Management they are to now charge for Sabor potatoes in addition to the Classic Breakfast. She said she tried to tell me after placing my order, but I had already left, yet she failed to tell me when I went back to pick-up the food a few minutes later or when I went back downstairs because they forgot the bacon. We stopped by this place as it was conveniently located across from the Plaza Theater which we had tickets to a show. My boyfriend had the Arrachera w/charro beans and he liked it. I go to the center side and do the same for the same people to tell me the same thing. Why not just tell me you aren't ready before I have to look under each empty container? I knew what I was getting myself into when we walked in. I read the reviews, but it was the closest thing near the convention center! That sat us down, but was never waited on until about 20 minutes. The menus are tablets! Also, there are no prices on the menu. I thought that was weird. Make sure you if you decide to eat here that you have an hour to pass the time. The queso was really yummy and super cheesy. It took them about hour to serve the burger and the soup. The soup was a bit spicy and was good. The cheeseburger was good but the fries were SUPER salty. My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for one night on our road trip. We got in about 7 o'clock, after eight hours of driving we just wanted a good meal and to relax for a second. We decided to check out Sabor and were extremely disappointed. We arrived at the host stand and were barely greeted. Then taken to a dirty table. The food is subpar at minimum. Not much flavor/seasoning. Moving onto service, I'd like to preface this by saying that we have both worked in service for a good amount of our lives. This may have genuinely been some of the worst either of us have experienced. Now I understand having a bad day, but to make your guests feel so unwelcome and uncomfortable is a different story. No greeting at all when he approached our table, no waters until we asked for them, wasn't even trying to act interested. Our server literally acted like taking our order was the worst thing he could be doing. He took our order and turned around so quickly I couldn't even tell him about my modification. Instead had to run after him to let him know and what I got in response was "I'll see what I can do". He proceeded to not check on us once, was on his phone at the bar, didn't refill our waters, didn't ask if we wanted another round of beer, nothing. When we were finally fed up with how uncomfortable we were my boyfriend had to walk up to the bar to ask him for our check and even then he didn't even look up from his phone until my boyfriend was directly next to him. During my week stay at Hotel Paso Del Norte, I wanted a place that I wouldn't feel under-dressed in leggings and a Jean jacket (while not leaving the hotel... they have 3-4 restaurants). My wife and I were staying at the Hotel Paso del Norte and ordered room service for dinner which is prepared from this restaurant. We were extremely pleased with this decision! Every time we stay at this hotel, it's our favorite in El Paso, we are hit with some savory smells from Sabor's outdoor grill as we walk into the lobby. Once in our room we called down and ordered off the dinner menu from the room's television menu. Because this menu didn't have any pictures we felt like we were taking a gamble (my only improve for Sabor is to provide a better menu that better advertises your delicious meals.) It worked out! We ordered the guacamole, the poblano chicken pasta, and ribeye ranchero. The food was prepared quickly and was fairly priced. The guac had a great fresh taste, the french fries that came with the ribeye (substituted for potatoes) were some of the best I ever had, the steak had a great Tex-mex flavor because of the peppers, and the pasta tasted homemade (not sure if it was because of their menu) and amazing. This review is for the Sunday Brunch. The term ballin' on a budget comes to mind. For $49/person you can gorge on ALL YOU CAN EAT hand carved ham, prime rib, brisket, smoked sausage, shrimp cocktail, smoked salmon, pozole, omelettes, freshly made pancakes and the most amazing maple syrup glazed brussel sprouts I've ever had in my life. I don't normally like brussel sprouts, they're usually cooked badly and burnt with a bitter aftertaste, but not these sprouts, they are perfect. I can wax poetic about these brussel sprouts, in fact I will: smoky, perfectly cooked moist interior with charred edges, with a sweet and savory maple syrup glaze interspersed with caramelized onions and a grated hard cheese, it was perfection. My only regret is trying it after all the meats and soup because I was really full and I literally bypassed the dessert table to grab 4th portions. I have a feeling that I'll be dreaming about these brussel sprouts for some time. This buffet is smaller but carried the greatest hits of buffets, with an emphasis on quality and presentation. It might be one of the most beautiful buffets I've been to, and I just came back from Vegas! Everything was so well thought out, they staggered the  staging so that each area (appetizers, main, carving station, sides, bread/desserts) was easily accessible and not crowded. The bread area was especially eye pleasing with the rustic touches on presentation. I didn't want to fill up on bread so it was hard to ignore the beautifully arranged jams. The appetizer area also shone with the delicious Italian style salad with mozzarella, arugula, and tri-colored heirloom tomato slices drizzled with balsamic vinegar, which I didn't resist and it was a great side to the meats. I also got a small portion of the smoked salmon with capers and cream cheese and didn't even bother with the bagel. The crab salad and shrimp cocktail came prepackaged in small mason jars and it was genius because I never liked having crustaceans just in the open as they tend to be dry. This way, it's not only beautiful, but practical, and I appreciate it so much. The tiny Tabasco sauce that comes with it is also adorable. They even have the wings platter separated by flats and drums! This attention to detail is why this buffet stands out. The only thing that it lacked was more fresh fruit. I really enjoy fruit especially when it's precut as I'm the one who does it at home for my kiddos and it's a small indulgence I have. From what I was told they usually have it but not that day. I also personally would prefer more salt in the food, but it was easily corrected with the salt shaker on my table. The coffee came in a pot and made it easy to refill myself. I liked it, but some might not. The other reason for the recommendation is the staff. I came during Halloween weekend and it was decorated slightly but the staff dressed up and some were really creative! I enjoyed guessing who they were dressed up as and they were kind enough to let us know if our guesses were correct or not. We didn't get the Telenovela star since we didn't watch those programming. I did get Marlon Wayans from Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood. The staff was so nice and accommodating, they really looked like they were enjoying themselves, from the chef in the back singing along to the country tunes from the live singer playing, the nice waitress taking time to explain how to dress up my pozole, to the staff hurrying over to give me a small Tabasco bottle for my shrimp cocktail since I missed it. I highly recommend this place if you want great service and amazing food, and ambiance. Everyone should try it at least once and if you have out of town guests, it's a great easy option to satisfy everyone with a little bit of everything. At $49/person it's worth it, just a note though that on Sunday and with parties of 6+ it's automatic gratuity of 20%. Service is more than worth that. You can do a la carte but the buffet is where it's at. It's only on Sundays from 10am-2pm and for an extra $10 you can have unlimited mimosas. The worse dinning experience I've ever had in my life! A group of friends & us went here & they raved so much about it! First off our drinks took 20mins! Then they all tasted like dirty water, it was horrible I returned them for tequila on the rocks cause all of our drinks were completely different & they all tasted like dirty water! We were greeted and sat immediately. Staff is friendly. The manager is actively circulating and interactive with the guests. Elite breakfast is the classic breakfast. 2 eggs. Choice of Sausage or bacon. Diced potatoes and choice of bread. Plus coffe, water, juice. The country potatoes were ok. Didn't taste like they were just cooked and there was inconsistency in the amount of salt dispersed between them. Often, like you were biting into the salt block. The waitress took our order without writing it down, and I could tell it wasn't going to go well. She called it back to us, I had requested scrambled eggs with cheese. She said it without cheese. I corrected her. She repeated it back. They still came out without the cheese. They offered to take them back and make it right. But we need to go. We lucked out.
