As soon as you sit- has a restaurant employee ever told you to eat quickly because they need your table promptly for other reservations? YUP!!! My mom made a reservation for 3 people, June 19th, 2026. Upon arrival, staff advised our table was occupied by other patrons, & would have to find another table. They proceeded to sit us at a table meant for 2. We did not fit comfortably, and plenty of other tables seemed available. I approached front desk and requested a change of table. The staff (3 women) proceeded to explain me about their reservations, table availability, restaurant occupancy, table #'s, etc. They were not polite, were flustered & stressed out. They were checking but stated it was not possible, I basically had to beg, to be moved to another table. it worked, and we got moved. This took about 10-15 minutes. it really was a hassle... I was ready to walk out...How could you start your dinning experience like this? Anyway, we ordered drinks, appetizers & main course, as soon as we got the 1st appetizer, a an employee came to the table she told us: They have other reservations, & need our table, and we need to rush so they can take care of their reservations. I could not believe her. By the way, no other patrons were getting rushed out, just us. This woman really ruined the mood. Ive never been told to eat quickly because there are other reservations in need of my table. I told her- to go ask other patrons for their table, and to STOP disturbing us. she walked away.. on to the food review: I got the Jamaica Mezcalita- it really was great tasting & a beautiful presentation in a coupe glass, nicely garnished. Highly recommended- or not? (the waitress told me to rush & get out?? Mezcal is meant to be zipped..) My mom had the mandarin mezcal drink- beautiful presentation, she loved it. See pictures. Appetizers: we had the Jalea de mariscos & tuna nikei. Beautiful presentation & delicious- ( but did we enjoy it? not really, were told to rush.) My parents each had the tacos de pulpo, I got the Maracuya Ceviche- again beautiful presentation & taste.. as we started eating, we had another visitor- the woman from the from desk, this time saying she was leaving, and she had the nerve to tell me to not stress out & enjoy, proceeded to mention everything about the reservations, tables etc. It was annoying. I stopped by because the photos made it look like a great spot, but unfortunately, my experience didn't match my expectations. I ordered the tuna appetizer, and the tuna was very pale in color and did not look like the traditional seared tuna I was expecting. After tasting it, I sent it back, but there was no real attempt to address the issue or offer to remove it from the bill. I was hopeful the tacos would be better, and while they weren't terrible, they also weren't enough to turn the experience around. Overall, the food quality and the waitress's demeanor left a lot to be desired. I wanted to share my experience so others have a better idea of what to expect. read more

Love coming here! Another favorite in El Paso! Attention to detail is on point, I accidentally made my reservation for bar top and also requested a high chair, they called me immediately after making the reservation to put us at a table instead of waiting til we arrived and possibly having to wait to get a table. This Peruvian Restaurant reminds us of our favorite place to eat in California. The taste of the food is always consistent and just the perfect temperature when it comes out. The drinks are so tasty and picture worthy. The inside has so much character to it, perfect for a date night or a cute girls night out. It feels like you're in a different place the second you step inside. If you eat outside they have heaters on so you don't feel cold at all and it's covered. Service is on par, always coming to check on you and nice enough to make simple changes to a dish with no pushback. read more

Came on a busy Saturday night, they asked if we had reservations, we didn't but they had room for us on the patio, which was covered and heated! So better to make one if you want to seat inside. Two words.... Lomo Saltado. So, so very good. Anytime I'm traveling, and see a restaurant with Peruvian food I have to go. I'm glad I stopped by Amar. The hostess and server were very friendly. I love the decor. The random light fixtures were a nice touch. I'm not a drinker so a Topo Chico with lime was perfect. They didn't skimp on the limes either. The Lomo Saltado was very good. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner tonight at Amar after seeing it come across one of my Instagram foodie pages and also recommended by local locals here in El Paso. As I am here in town for work, I've made it a mission to go out and check out different restaurants. I love Peruvian food so this was a no-brainer after I found out about it. I was seated immediately, and I took in one of the delicious Pisco sours followed up with the ceviche Amar. The ceviche was so fresh and full of flavor from the various components, even the aesthetics of the dish was amazing! I ended the evening trying Tallarines Verdes. The green sauce was amazing. I definitely recommend those looking for good and fresh Peruvian food alongside great customer care, and the clean establishment. the price to food quality ratio and portion size was spot on. All I can say is WOW...as a yelp elite from back in the day, I had to take the time to give Amar a review. We came this Sunday after Valentine's Day because my husband works in the restaurant industry and had to work on Valentine's Day. Let me tell you, it was our first time here and we will DEFINITELY be back. Our server Ashley was above and beyond. She took such good care of us and the food was AMAZING (see all pics even though my husbands fave the blueberry cheesecake didn't survive before the pic.) - we started with the ceviche, yucca fries and cabbage salad - for mains we got the picante seafood pasta with habanero and the whole snapper. Finally had the opportunity to try Amar & I was not disappointed. Joined a friend for lunch and immediately was surprised how nice the dining space was upon arrival. Asked Christina what she recommended and she gave a number of her favorite recommendations. Ended up starting with the elote appetizer & it was delicious! A bit awkward to eat and messy but I'd definitely order again. For the main course we ordered two ribeye tacos & two shrimp tacos to split and try one each. First of all - the plating was very pretty & eye catching. Made you want to jump right in. Secondly, the plate sizes were very hefty - piled up with tasty goodness. I enjoyed the really great food and look forward to going back to try more of the menu. My personal preference was the cheesy shrimp tacos but the ribeye definitely won't disappoint. read more

Ever had Peruvian food? I hadn't before this place. I've been twice now and both times have been wonderful. Kind of on the expensive price for lunch but it's the same meal as dinner. If you go for dinner, make a reservation. I went on a Thursday and we got the last two seats at the bar. Lunch was very open though. It's near UTEP and not really a college kid lunch destination. This might be the the best Ceviche I have ever had. The notes of lime were heavy and the fish was light. Large pieces of octopus if that's your thing. The garnishes of the fried corn kernels and onion were amazingly complimentary to the ceviche. Can not recommend this enough and the portions were more than I needed. It was the recommendation of the waitress when I couldn't decide. She said it was very Peruvian. The Lomo Saltado. As the name might imply was salty in a great way. I could not tell you a single spice in it but it was perfect and not your normal Mexican spice palette, there was something distinctive about it. Have to try it for yourself. It can be a bit loud inside so not a quiet romantic dinner location but a nice night out place with friends. Will be back a third time read more

I was excited to try this place that. I kept getting bumped by people that were walking past me so I sat in a different chair. Then I got pumped by people sitting behind me. The chairs are big and shouldn't be so close to each other. Our waiter was new and had to continuously confirm the questions we had which is fine. My friends and I were visiting El Paso from LA for the BTS concert and stumbled upon this place on yelp. So glad we did! We went for dinner with no reservations but were seated at the bar quickly. The ambiance was so cute. We ordered the BTS themed drinks which came with cute little cards that we got to pick at random. We ordered the Ceviche Amar Mixed as an appetizer and the sauce on that thing was amazing. I ordered the pasta which was so flavorful and portion size was great. The star was definitely the desserts. I visited Amar on a Sunday immediately after they opened. I thought it would be jam-packed, but we were the only table for a while, and I am grateful for their customer service. Amar is a beautiful decor restaurant on Mesa Street; I had heard fantastic things about it but was impressed with their food's taste and authenticity. Delicious! I ordered fire-grilled elotes for appetizers, and the taste was terrific. I ordered the shrimp soup and a colossal serving, which was exactly what I was looking forward to. We took one of our coworkers here for brunch to celebrate her birthday. I ordered the tamale. I was extremely disappointed as I think they could really work on the filling. This tamale needs a sauce in the first place. What you get is a 4 inch piece of chicken at the very end of the tamale, and an olive with a pit inside. Being a foodie, I would definitely leave out the chicken and mix olives and possibly a veggie in there or corn; Just because the MASA has a great taste. We showed up and were offered indoor or outdoor seating, we stayed indoors, but outside would have been fine since it was after sunset. We ordered some soft drinks, and a combination of appetizers and entrees. The shrimp empanadas were amazing. They had the right balance cheese, and were not skimpy with the shrimp. Noah tried the ribeye tacos and we had split the lomo saltado plate. The beef in both were seasoned well and cooked appropriately - nice and tender. The portions were not too big either, just enough to want more. Max was helpful in choosing the dishes for our group. The service was pretty good. The table asked if there was anything to be done there for a birthday and their server brought a Explosion de Amor, and some sparklers, an acapela feliz cumpleanos, and voila. It came out well done. And flavorless. Needed some seasoning. The pesto sauce was good though. But small portion and no sides. Other disappointing things. Chair was very uncomfortable. Table was super wobbly. No salt and pepper in the table. Server brought me some, but it took a long time, and they were dirty. Location is nothing special. In a strip mall next to Albertsons. However, now with Kevin tonight, the price increases, the removal of the potato with stuffed meat entree, and the poor service overall, I will not be returning. I made reservations for a birthday dinner Feb 11 @ 6:00. I stopped by the day before to make the reservation and to inform the host what we wanted written on the chosen dessert. At dinner, the server didn't know anything about the prearranged dessert. After informing the server about the birthday dessert request it took over 20 minutes for the birthday dessert and the presentation was sloppy. I was disappointed with the service and didn't receive the attention required to make for a birthday celebration. Came here while visiting my sister-in-law; we were a party of seven including one toddler. They have a really nice patio and even in the El Paso heat with the big fans and misters. It felt very nice and I was a little skeptical at first! I ordered the lomo saltado and the meat was cooked just like I asked, and the whole dish was so good. Do not skip desserts as a table we ordered blueberry cheesecake, Tres leches, and tiramisu mousse. All were delightful! For being such a big party, we were seated promptly and the servers were really great about checking in on us and making sure we had everything we needed. My Peruvian friend wanted me to try this restaurant. I was a little skeptical because I cannot eat heavy things at night because I'm old. Luckily they were able to make some fish tacos grilled instead of deep-fried. They were served on blue corn tortillas a little on the thick side, which made them nice and chewy. It really was delicious. My friend had a dish labeled stuffed potato, but in reality is maybe mashed potatoes surrounding a meatcenter then deep-fried. We also had the corn drink which is also tasty. The manager came over at the end and took our bill, but the waiter never appeared again after getting our order. Nobody refilled our water glasses, but it was OK. Nothing to cry about. It's a nice cute little restaurant connected to another restaurant. You have to go to that restaurant to use the bathroom because they're interconnected. Amar means love, and they couldn't be more correct. I LOVE everything about this restaurant. The ambiance is perfect, which is a rarity in El Paso. I experienced nothing but great service in this city and Amar is no exception. The real draw though is the food. OMG THE FOOD. We ordered two Carajillos (pistachio and marzapan) the bone marrow, tacos de ribeye, and tacos de pulpo. The pistachio Carajillo was definitely the preferred one at our table, while the marzapan was a bit creamier. If you get the bone marrow please, please, PLEASE get the cheese on it. We popped a couple of lactaids and enjoyed rich, flavorful, cheesy goodness. The tacos de pulpo also can't be missed. You won't find a better meal in El Paso. This is why. One of the main gripes I have with El Paso is a stereotypical trend known as the "good enough" mentality. An ideology that I believe plagues American society at a macro level due to our extremely focused culture towards safety and comfortability. This mentality, I have noticed, permeates deep into the restaurant industry within El Paso. The food at most restaurants is always just, okay, at best. Usually under seasoned. Usually lacking any depth of flavor. With no one experimenting into any new culinary styles or trying to push the boundaries of new cuisine. In comes Amar. A Peruvian + Mexican Kitchen that is now my go to place for dates and out of town guest welcome dinners. The Atmosphere: When you walk in, you are greeted with endearing vaulted ceilings covered with a variety of modern lamp shades basked in warm light and surrounded by hanging plants. Chic. Modern. Cute. Cool. The Price: $$$ Enough to be expensive, but affordable enough to go monthly. The Food: Unnecessarily good. I ordered the Huancaina Truffle Pasta, one our server recommended as a Top Seller. It looked different from the picture where the noodles were so yellow we thought it was mistaken as Mac and Cheese. We were gratefully wrong. The noodles were drenched in a deeply flavorful, smoky/velvety sauce with some of the best chicken I've had in a while with a couple sprigs of parsley, I believe. Highly recommend. Dessert: Our group finished with the Torta de Elote and the Avocado Ice cream. I recommend the Torta de Elote as the sweet bread was some the most decadent, moist breads I've had in a while and it paired very well with the corn shaped ice cream. Both desserts used the main ingredient it mimicked (that's right, that picture of corn is actually all ice cream and the avocado is all ice cream) as a base with the avocado ice cream being the most prominent in taste. The avocado ice cream was a strange, yet intriguing experience as it was the creaminess and taste of a regular avocado but cold and flavorful as an ice cream. Weird, but I like weird. Overall: Amar, thank you for bringing me hope again with the restaurants within El Paso. I hope you are able to find great success and open even more restaurants that will bring a spotlight to El Paso cuisine standards. You rock. read more

The service was poor. It took 30 min to get water and over an hour to get all the drinks ordered. Between the first entree served and the last entree served it took 45 to an hour. Three of us were finished eating before the last person was even served. They made 2 items twice (one drink and one entree) but completely forgot another's food. Oh and we were charged 2x for one item... Waiter was not good and it seems the kitchen was unorganized. Food great. Good value. Service was so bad it was a train wreck we will not forget.
