It was scrumptious and had a nice heat level - "a good burn," as the restaurant employee described it. You can adjust the spice level to your liking, so if you're spice-averse, then order "no spice" (notice: "mild" does not equal "no spice"). While it's not the most amazing southeast Asian food I've had, it hit the spot for lunch. Consider visiting Sabbai yourself if you're craving some Asian flavors. read more

One of my greatest finds! Let me tell you why: 1. They have Tum Yum 2. They have Chicken egg rolls!!! 3. Also their customer service is one of the best I've had. With my Tum Yum, I had the option to get it with any protein: chicken, beef, or shrimp and get it as spicy as I want it. This soup was served HOT & just the way I like it. Now there are a couple different styles of Tum Yum; Thai & Vietnamese. The one made here is Thai style. The broth was delicious and the kind of rice they serve is glossy which I haven't seen before, also delicious! I've been on the hunt for chicken-anything but pork egg rolls and to my surprise the lady at the counter said they have chicken egg rolls! It was nuts to me and I made 2 orders! They were fresh, crispy, & HOT! Not spicy hot, but temperature hot. It was juicy and had so much flavor, I didn't need the sweet and sour dip. That's when you know their egg rolls are good though. My parents make egg rolls all the time and I grew up oblivious to any sauce for egg rolls. This place has every other place beat! They also fill their rolls with a lot of meat and vegetables and less of the roll sheet. I love when places don't hold back on their fillings. I love this place! I work in an adjacent building and frequent the Midtown Global Market. I would recommend this place over Phams. Food: get the chicken pad Thai! This is cooked to order and it's delicious! Lots of egg and really tender chicken with a nice citrus sauce. Add some extra lime for flavor. Very well priced at like $9 and well worth the wait! Sometimes the noodle are a little undercooked, but love it! Large portion Wing: the have large cooked to order wings, like six of them, either oyster or sesame. I recommend the oyster. They. Are. Delicious! Perfectly cooked and crispy, with tender chicken. Love them and had them for lunch today! Like $10. Sesame chicken is really good most of the time. A little inconsistent because sometimes the sauce isn't as good or it tastes like sweet and sour. But way better than Phams! Still good after all of these years. I often times get the Tom Yum with shrimp. This last time I spooned through it and thought they forgot the shrimp. It turns out they now cut off the tails, which made them look similar to the cauliflower (with my bad vision). Why do they trim it now? Get this: they found that younger people were freaking out and complaining because they couldn't use their hands to grab the shrimp and pull the tails off 'cause they'd get their phones dirty. They couldn't cope with that (probably couldn't cope with using napkins either). They can't enjoy a meal because being on their device is more important. I've also had a couple of nice talks with one of the owners about cooking and recipes. It's all very good and I fret going because it's hard to decide what to get, but I'm about to leave now to go there. read more

This has become a new go-to for me at Global Market. I have had five different items in past few months - pad thai, green curry, drunken noodles, kung pao, and fried rice. All are 9 or 10 out of 10. They can do anything vegetarian and make everything so fresh to order. Perfect little tofu triangles are just the right size and texture. Family run and always great service. Love love love Sabbai! The Mi Katang is wonderful. Freshly made to order, with generous portions of protein (I got the chicken, which had shockingly large and full flavored slices of fresh cut meat) and a voluminous portion of very fresh veggies. I asked for it extra spicy and, man, did it kick. The supple and complexly spiced - think a marriage of 5 spice and and South Asian aromatic spices - brown gravy that the noodles are cooked in (and which they soak up) perfectly complements the bird's eye pepper notes. I'd highly recommend this if you like your heat. A more than satisfying dinner on a cold night for under 10 bucks. What more could you ask for? We live close to the market so we are always happy to see a new addition to the area and Sabbai has been a great go to place for busy nights when we don't want to cook. My boyfriend eats there much more than I do as he tends to eat out when I'm not there to cook but he's addicted to their fried rice. He must have had it over 10 times now and he loves the beef spicy version. HIs only compliant is sometimes when he orders they make it too spicy, but that never stops him from eating it all! I've tried the chicken curry dish and mine was very spicy too because I ordered my BF"s spicy rice at the same time and I think the communication broke down and I ended up getting a abnormally spicy curry as well. But it was huge portion so I could make two meals out of it and with enough rice to cut down the fire, it was very good. I'm sure the normal spice level is just right, so next time I'll be sure to try to be clearer. Service is fast and friendly and you can take food to go as well. I don't think some of these reviews are entirely fair. First, it's incredibly difficult to be an Asian restaurant in the TC and it's not fair to compare cuisines that are completely different in philosophy and taste. Restaurants have to cater to tastes that range from the quest for "authentic" to those who prefer Americanized sweet versions of the original dish. Striking the right balance is difficult, and I think Sabbai's problem is one of marketing. People don't know what Cambodian food is so they also make Thai food (but people already have preconceived ideas about what that is). People should be ordering more of the Cambodian dishes. OK enough of my soapbox rant. I've been to Sabbai Cuisine many times and have tried a few other dishes, but honestly, I almost always order Mee Katang (which is made to order). It's basically the Cambodian version of chow fun with just the right mix of wide rice noodles, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, mushrooms, snap peas, egg and your choice of meat (beef is best). If you like spicy, this is definitely the right amount of spice! It's my go to comfort food in the market. I always get fast, friendly service here. read more

Every time I have a craving for Pad Thai I come here. It is good, close to my house, and they validate parking. They make the pad thai to order and you can see how it being prepared, this makes me feel better knowing that I am not getting something that has been sitting under a warmer. After a trip to my local DMV (in the basement of Midtown Global Market), I decided to grab lunch on my way to the office. It was early (10:30ish) on a Thursday and there weren't many lines or anything as many places were just getting their grills hot, etc. Sabbai caught my eye because they offer a mock duck rice noodle salad which I figured would hold up decently on my ~30minute bus trek to work. Service was fast and friendly which I appreciated. While prepping my food, I was offered the choice of a peanut sauce OR the house dressing. I asked what the employee preferred and she said she personally liked the house dressing best but admitted that many people love the peanut. I decided to go with the house per her recommendation and it was tasty enough but did not really stand out above any other typical dressing provided with these types of salads. When I got to the office, I noticed that in addition to the dressing, they included a little container of crushed peanuts. I did a light sprinkle on my salad but soon discovered they were very stale (as in, I had to spit one out because it nearly broke my tooth) so I'm glad they were kept on the side. The mock duck was good but there was not a ton of it. The noodles were slightly overcooked but the cucumber was ample and gave the dish a refreshing edge. Overall, I thought this place was just okay. While it satisfied my need for a convenient lunch, in the sea of delicious cuisine that is Midtown Global Market, Sabbai was unable to convince me of the need for an urgent return visit. read more

I love Midtown Global Market- for the atmosphere and the ability to get quick, good food from diverse and POC-owned vendors. My go-to places are Safari (Somali food) & Manny's Tortas, but I felt like noodles today so a friend & I decided to try Sabbai for the first time. I've always told people to not eat Asian food at Midtown, since Pham's is mediocre & Rabbit Hole isn't open on weekends & it's fusion. This is why I was excited to try Sabbai's. I got the mee katang with beef & my friend got the drunken noodles with chicken. It was amusing that our two dishes looked and tasted the same but luckily we liked it. They make the dishes fresh to order so that really helps the noodle from getting too sticky & rubbery. I also like the chunks of fried egg. We both got it "spicy" and it actually was spicy (doesn't always happen in MN). My friend thought it seemed a little spendy for what it is ($10/dish) but I thought it was worth it to have it cooked fresh instead of sitting out buffet style. To preface this I would give the place a 2.5 stars if I can but willing to round it up to 3. At 3PM with no breakfast or lunch I was starving and made a mistake of going to Midtown Global Market (MGM), given it has so many options and I am very indecisive. My boyfriend finally suggested I grab two things, one from each place; and bless his heart (sarcasm), he would be willing to help me finish half of each. I was craving some asian food and wanted to try a torta (see Manny's Torta review). I end up getting the drunken noodles here. Overall with tax it came around to be like $10. I must say that it was about meh. The noodles were cooked just right, chicken was tender and vegetables were not soggy but fresh -- so i was convinced they made it on the spot. However, there was also nothing particularly special about it. Maybe I have higher standards for MGM, but the dish seem to be more like asian fast-food booths in a shopping mall. The portion was on the skimpy side and there wasn't actually much to share. For $10 for a skimpy and forgettable dish, I would be more willing to pay a bit more and eat at a sit-down restaurant where I know the standards are higher. Overall, I'm not entirely sure I would come back again given the many options they have at MGM. The food was just too mediocre and nothing in the menu screams original to me. This was probably one of the most "fast food" experiences I have had at MGM given food at other places actually taste like it was made with more care in a restaurant style format. read more

I haven't been to the midtown market for a while, but I was pleasantly surprised when I stopped at Sabbai Cuisine. I've been to many Thai restaurants, and I didn't think that such a small place like this would be so good, especially for the price! I ordered their Chicken Pad Thai, and I have found that it is hard for a lot of places to get it right...not here. It wasn't overly greasy or salty, but still was able to retain its flavor and spice. My girlfriend ordered the Hot and Sour Soup (Tom Yum Kung), and it was...amazing! She doesn't even like traditional Hot and Sour soups that you would find at a buffet, but she loved this, and so did I! This is real homemade stuff here. No processed BS that you would find at other places. Even their Thai Tea was homemade and the best I've had. Everything was very authentic and delicious. If you don't like this, you probably just don't like Thai food. Nuff said. Flavorless? You must have been in a terrible taste bud accident. 1 star? There is no critic in the world that would EVER give this place a 1 star. Or even a 3 star for its price. This is _quality_ authentic Thai food for a good price, period. read more

Unfortunately the Sabbai Express is less than average, I agree with Gordon K. although his review was some time ago! First I ordered the over priced shrimp pad Thai it was lunch time so I asked about specials and if perhaps the portion came with soup. I was told No because Tom Yum soup is a meal in itself "Wrong" so I went ahead with the order and a drink. It was not only the poor service but the food I received once my order was corrected. I ordered Shrimp and received Chicken with an apology. No worries right? well when I opened the box it had two shrimp on so I was forced to search for them before letting the cashier off the hook. She told me "Oh no we put plenty of shrimp there are seven, we use 30's; yeah its the market price so yeah" After her speech she rolled her eyes, shook her head and went back to her less than humble crew to voice her conversation....or so I would hope. They all looked over at me as though I had done something wrong. So I decided to open a YELP account because I am so sick and tired of poor service, poor attitudes, and poor food. Everyone who has a restaurant shouldn't, just as everyone who has one shouldn't be put under the microscope for the bad ones out there. My 13 year old like to go out and support the community by eating at places such as this however this one missed the mark on so many levels. The Shrimp pad Thai; too many onions both white and spring onions, the sauce; not nearly enough lacked the sweet undertone with a spicy kick.This tasted like some Americanized bottled version of a classic dish. The scrambled egg,well take a look at the scrambled egg blob! Really who does that ?? Small bite sized barely there pieces are the norm! There was bean sprouts, I counted 9 in one corner of the box with a juicy lime wedge in the other and crushed peanuts just opposite of that. All in all this meal was a D Service an F, my thirteen year old son decided to take a taste he said the shrimp was dry and the noodles were too gummy: his version of not enough sauce. Went here on the way home from a school field trip. I have been on a quest for the best tasting Pad Thai, so of course I had to try their Pad Thai. I would say next time I should definitely get it medium spice instead of mild, because it was missing that aspect. So far it has been the second best Pad Thai I have had. I enjoy their service it was as fast as they could go with the customer to staff ratio. Also the staff was kind and very pleasing. I also got the Taro Smoothie, I have had taro bread in Hawaii so I thought I'd give it a try. It was a purple smoothie with a taste that hangs around for a while like coffee would. So if you enjoy coffee, like me, then I would recommend this smoothie. Note if you don't know already, this is in Global Midtown Market, so there is no seating just for this restaurant its seating for the all the surrounding restaurants. This is another great addition to the Midtown Global Market. I had the chicken pad Thai. I liked the spice level (fairly spicy), but it lacked the sweeter undertone that I like about the pad Thai found at Sawatdee. I also had a mango smoothie, which I really liked.
