I have learned to request a statement soon after my appt so that I have a clear understanding of what I'm billed for and what insurance will pay. Can't trust them to get it right and follow up in timely manner.

They sold me on a 2 year 0% interest credit card with monthly payments to complete payments and been paying my auto payments with interest charged from day one and they told me that was agreement.....and just realized (after no billing statements) that I have paid $4000 on a $5200 procedure and still owe $4500 in credit debt!!!!! As someone who…read morehas a severe astigmatism on both eyes and couldn't find contacts that I could stand in my eyes, I was very worried that this wouldn't be a "cure all" for me specifically. Today I am proud to report I no longer suffer from astigmatism but I can see BETTER than 20/20 in both eyes and they are still improving! I no longer need glasses or contacts and I do not suffer from any residual side effects including dry eye. I went to a lot of places in and around KC looking for the right Dr. for me. I liked Dr. Doane and his team tremendously. Dr. Parsons in the Independence office was there for my pre-op visit and did a number of tests to ensure I was a good candidate. Probably more importantly to me, made sure I had realistic expectations and had done my homework. I asked (and he answered) a lot of questions. I felt very, very comfortable moving forward after working with him and his staff and never felt rushed or pressured into making a choice or committing to anything until I was ready. When I was ready, the financing portion of their process was easy and uneventful. They will find a way to make it work for you if they can. The surgery center was so efficient that I couldn't believe how quickly I was finished! The pre and post-op staff at the Leawood office were so great and friendly, they made me feel very comfortable and so well taken care of. I also paid attention to everything they said to do, and I follow it to the letter. The surgery itself is painless. I didn't feel anything. It was the part I was the most worried about but it didn't hurt at all. Best advice I recieved: Go home and go to bed after. I ate something quick and took Advil PM after my surgery (in the car on my way home). By the time I woke up (6 hours later) I felt almost 100% better. USE YOUR DROPS!!! it will make all the difference. Your eyes will be uncomfortably "scratchy" and watery when you leave the surgery center...it will be almost 100% gone by the time you wake up. It's odd but true. If you are thinking about this surgery, go to Discover and at least do their free evaluation. I went to them because so many of my friends and co-workers went there and had great expirences. I can't believe I waited so long. It was the most life-changing thing I have ever done for myself. You don't know what you can't see until after you have this surgery. It actually makes me a little sad that I am just now really seeing the details in things at 37...but hey, better late than never. Thank you Dr. Parsons, Dr. Doane and all the staff that made this such a great, life-changing expirence for me personally. It has literally changed how I live my life every single day. (less than a business day from my appointment) They did not inform me when I MADE the appointment that this change would be implemented, so I had to search for another practice if I did not want to pay 100% out of pocket. I asked repeatedly why the decision was made, but no one could answer this question. This is a very disappointing action from this practice, especially since I had been a patient there for so many years.

Then I received a phone call a few days after my visit saying they forgot to bill me for my contact lens fitting and that I owe another $60. Received another call a few weeks later saying they "misread" my insurance and I owe another $110. This is not the first time they've called me after an appointment saying they made an error and I actually owe more than they originally told me. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Dr. Jeffry Gerson is fabulous and is located in Leawood, which is super convenient to me. The Doctors and staff are really fabulous. My kids love going to the eye doctor. No fears! I was told I was correct, I did not receive a text message reminder. I then asked they waive the late fee. I was told to talk to Dr. Gershon's office. I used to see Dr. Johnson at the Olathe office, a wonderful doctor, but had to switch offices. I spoke with the office today at my 8 am appointment for which I drove from Lawrence, Kansas. I was told, I was sent the text, I read the text reminder for July, they had proof and I had to pay the late fee by Dr. Gershon's assistant. I said, "we are through." His assistant said, "fine." I left in tears. I did nothing wrong. I am a 58 year old woman and I do not deserve to be treated this way and I will NOT EVER go back and neither will any member of my family. Please be aware. They are aware of this. Well, I had thought everything went smoothly. She received her glasses and everything. About a week later, I received a call from Children's Mercy Hospital saying they had a referral for my cousin because she had liquid buildup in her eye. Now, I kind of went silent for a moment and I asked who made the referral because I didn't know anything was wrong. They didn't say anything to me. Well, my cousin overhears this and says "Oh, the doctor referred me because something is wrong with my eye." So they left a 15 year old to tell me or her dad. They called me today to verify she had an appointment. I called them back and said "Yes, I made the appointment. Can you explain to me why you told the minor something was wrong and not the parent or the person who brought her in?" The lady on the phone then says that they don't have her father's information and there was no consent on file. But I called before her appointment, and they said we were good to go. I even asked if they needed a letter from her father saying I could bring her in and be told whatever may be important to know. They said no. Well, they claim they don't have it today. So, I said, "The next time this kind of thing happens. Perhaps ask for the phone number of the person you need to talk to. I have his number, so does she. My issue was that I was shocked to find out my cousin needed to go see a specialist at 15 for her eye with a surprise phone call from a specialist." Don't excuse your lack of action by lying to me. If you really didn't have his information, you knew very well you could ask for it. I was asked for it today over the phone. That made LESS sense.
