Went to this eyecare practice for over a decade, and was quite happy with the care I received. However, today I received a call that they had abruptly dropped my vision insurance. (less than a business day from my appointment) They did not inform me when I MADE the appointment that this change would be implemented, so I had to search for another practice if I did not want to pay 100% out of pocket. I asked repeatedly why the decision was made, but no one could answer this question. This is a very disappointing action from this practice, especially since I had been a patient there for so many years. read more

After almost 14 years doing business with WestGlen Eyecare, unfortunately, I must part ways. I was disappointed to learn that the Beatty family returned to full office appointments, and scheduled me with an appointment, after spending at least a week in Florida, and not following Kansas State Guidance for self quarantining upon their return. I would have never known had the appointment scheduler not contacted me to reschedule my original 2/17/2021 appointment because the Beatty's stay in Florida was extended due to last week's weather crisis. I was rescheduled within 5 days of their return for 2/22/2021, which I canceled. I appreciated the honesty, and explanation, provided by Dr. Eric Beatty, but it fell short of concern for my, or my families, safety, as he explained the steps he's taken to provide safety to him and his staff, through vaccinations. I am currently ineligible for vaccinations, as is my Type-1 diabetic son, and there is still no CDC/WHO guidance for transmissibility following the vaccine. My visit could have resulted in an increased risk, and possible great harm, to my son and elder Mother had I not inquired after gaining knowledge of the situation. Unfortunate, but I rely on my care providers to look out for my health and well being as diligently as I do myself. read more

It's difficult to rate a business that seems to ignore a customer looking for a pair of glasses. Entered the store wanting to select a pair of glasses but needed to review their selection. Was told to look things over first vs getting necessary computer information and some one would be with me shortly. I wandered through store for at least 20 min and only 2 customers came in and out quickly while I was looking. This was a very nice looking store but the service was poor at best. I gave them my Medicare card, which covers eyeglasses and exams. After the exam, they billed me, and told me they don't accept Medicare only AFTER taking my card and after the exam! I refused to pay it, and now have a collection agency after me for the amount! SHADY PRACTICE, to say the least! Dishonest and predatory. DON'T GO THERE if you are elderly and on Medicare! This was my first visit to an optometrist. Dr. Gerson was great and his staff is very friendly. However, I was told my glasses would be ready in 10 days. It's been 14 days and I had to call the office to check the status. It turns out they don't even have my frames in yet. If they ordered my frames on the day I picked them out, 2 weeks ago, they should have them by now. I'm not impressed with the customer service so far. I've been bouncing around to different eye doctors for the past 5 or 6 years and while none of my experiences have been particularly bad, none of them were good enough to make me come back. That changed today when I had my first appointment with Dr. Beatty (Eric). The office is very nice and front desk and eye care staff are welcoming. Dr. Beatty was so friendly and genuine. He spent a good 10-15 minutes talking with me and explaining some interesting things about my eyes. I never felt rushed or like he was just there to make his quick rounds and get on to the next patient which is something I've experienced nearly everywhere else I've been. Another great and thorough exam at WestGlen Eyecare. After moving to Shawnee, I wanted to find a place closer, and I lucked out that this place was just down the road from me. The staff here is awesome, and the health of my eyes is Dr. Beatty's top concern. He takes time to get your contact or eyeglass prescription right, goes over the results of the different tests performed in detail, and talks about things you should watch out for based on your family history. I like how their glaucoma test doesn't involve that annoying puff of air, but the retinal scan is my favorite. I'm not a fan of getting my eyes dilated, and their technology doesn't require it. There's a small out of pocket fee if you want to go that route, but it's minimal and definitely worth it to me. I'v had the same eyeglasses for a few years now, so I haven't had to purchase frames here. They have a great selection, but since I haven't made a purchase, I can't comment on that side of the business. That said, I did require a minor repair to the pair I had, and the young lady took care of them toot sweet. I do purchase my contacts here, and they have the top of the line. Nothings too good when it comes to your eyes. read more

I highly recommend Westglen Eyecare. I have been a patient for many years and have seen both of the Beatty's and received excellent service and eye care. Very recently I woke up during the night with a corneal abrasion and was in horrible pain. I drove out to the office and was there when they opened at 9 AM without an appointment. They assured me that they would be able to help me with this quickly. Dr Eric Beatty saw me quickly without an appointment and took care of me to diagnose the problem and resolve the pain. The staff was very sympathetic to my problem and all were so helpful and friendly. They really made a bad situation so much better for me. I followed up a few days later with Dr Beatty to make sure I was doing fine and he gave me some things for me to take on my trip in case it happens again. Wow. I used to like this place until last week. I would not recommend it to anyone now. I showed up for my appointment and discovered that there was no record of an appointment for me. Even though I had received a reminder email of the appointment several days prior to the date. Turns out someone from the office had called me to reschedule the appointment WITHOUT EVER LEAVING A VOICEMAIL to that effect. As the office manager was explaining why I had no appointment, the receptionist interrupted several times that I had not been in their office in several years (I had Lasik.), as though that would nullify the value of an appointment for me. I will admit that I had a great experience when buying glasses from this location. My experience was so good, I decided to go there for my eye check up. I honestly felt as though I was inconveniencing the eye doctor. She didn't seem to care about what had previous happened to my eyes or to even acknowledge that she knew. I had to explain all my problems to her "assistant" who supposedly relayed the information. She gave me some contacts to put in, but they didn't feel right and she never returned to see if I was fine. I had to go back to the front desk and ask to speak with her. She rude and uninterested in my problems. I went back a week later when my contacts were still a problem. I was scheduled to see a different eye doctor, but I never even saw this doctor. Instead, I talked to an "assistant" the whole time. He would leave the room, come back, and relay what the doctor had said. If you want to go to an eye doctor and actually SEE an eye doctor, don't come here. read more

We've had a great experience with Westglen. Dr. Andrea really takes the time with you. In my daughter's case, it was her 1st time to wear contacts & Dr. Andrea spent a lot of time getting it right. She has a really high Rx in one eye & she searched the contacts database to find one she could wear & then discounts to bring down the cost. My previous doc (Wineinger) hadn't helped me find a good solution for 40-something eyesight that was near & now farsighted, too. Her staff must have tried 5 contact Rx combos with me until we found one I was comfortable with. The staff is always nice & helpful & this year my husband started with Dr. Eric really likes the time he spent with him & the things he identified & shared with him about his aging eyes. read more

I will be taking my business else where. The doctor was okay but sorta rushed me through my exam, never had the one or two so dang fast. Didn't really care though cause she was nice but it was when I went to buy my glasses that this place failed. The lady came to help me with my glasses pitches was a blond younger girl. She was very peppy and nice, but very blunt and rude. I found funky frames I absolutely loved! I'm funky, I told her repeatedly I wasn't joking about like the larger tortoise frames I feel lots of girls are wearing. She told me I would regret my but and just was so rude. At one point ask me to hand her the glasses and put them on then said "See the larger look only fits people with fat faces like mine". I finely grimly said well tell me what to buy then and she ran around getting little square frames. I was done, I will take my else where. Just made me feel like I was an idiot. read more

My eye check was great, very pleased. The optical department - terrible, so it knocks my rating down. The day of my appointment, I walked around looking for glasses...no one came to help though front desk people saw me looking (they could have let the optical people know.) Finally an optical gal attended to me but zero customer service skills...a bit grumpy and not really helping when I was looking for a specific style. I tried shopping one more time (thinking the first time was an 'off' day) after I picked up my contacts. Again, I walked around for at least 15 min, no help or even acknowledgement I was there by optical employees...and one definitely saw me. I bought frames from Highpoint Family Vision (very helpful! there) which I discovered is closer to me anyway. read more

I have been visiting Dr. Andrea Spruyt, (now Beatty) for the past 7-8 years and she has always been very kind, prompt, and professional. About 5 years ago I was in for a routine check-up when she found what appeared to be a tear in my retina (with the use of their OptoMap machine) and referred me to a Retinal Specialist that same day. The next day I went in for surgery at Shawnee Mission Med. Had it not been for Dr. Spruyt's expertise, I would not have know about this tear until much later, and could have resulted in partial or permanent blindness. Thank you Dr. Spruyt!! read more

I have a overall OK experience. I did have to wait a month and a half for my glasses due to a mix up between the supplier and Westglen eyecare. I also have been back several times for adjustments as the fit of the glasses is not good as of yet. They have tried to fix the problem with immediacy and have been cordial. read more

This used to be a great place. I've done business with this organization for more than 15 years. I've been there 3 times in the last month and each time I've had a bad customer service experience. There has been major turnover in their staffing and there is no longer any attention to customer satisfaction.
