They're always so busy here but they take of you instantly when you set an appointment here. Only went here for a laser. Laser off the lashes that's been bothering and I believe one of the doctors is so hyper but he got a steady hands. The way he numbs before and then laser is kinda scary. I can see blood and smell the brunt hair. He gave ointment to help with the pain and healing. Still trying to figure out if it's good or bad. Check back for a follow up. read more

Cataract surgery went well, but...Medicare and my health insurance have issues with the billing. Billing dept number never answers. Patient portal doesn't receive messages. Text messages say to reply back but bounce back because they can't receive messages. Just frustrating stuff. P.S. The chipped paint all over the inside of the building give it a shabby look...now that I can see. read more

Having all your eye care in one building is a good thing. Years ago, our independant optometrist/ophthalmologist joined Sabates, and our family have been a patients ever since. From general exams to complicated surgery, they have covered several generations of our family for many years now. They are fairly efficient at handling patients, but not very accurate as to the scheduled time for appointments. Expect a little bit of a wait. Otherwise, they are friendly and thorough. You can trust your eyes will be well cared for. Note: The eyeglass retailer in the lobby is not Sabates, and I recommend finding a different place to take your prescription. read more

On 4/10/2025 I had an annual eye exam with Dr. Herretes, and it was great. She is a very caring and personable professional. However, when I went to check out, I asked if I could make my next-year exam appointment, and the woman told me, "No". She gave me no explanation and offered no further assistance. When I asked her why, she just told me that Dr. Herretes is leaving. Then I asked if I could see another doctor, and she again just said "No." No explanation and no offer to help at all. With that bad attitude, I feel that you no longer want me as a patient, so I will not be returning, and I will certainly never recommend you to anyone I know. I was a dentist for 34 years, and I would want to know if the person at my front desk was this rude and uncaring. read more

We really like our doctor at the Sabates on Nall but their staff is a whole other issue. They are never, ever on time and most usually you wait anywhere from 20 minutes to 90 minutes, sometimes longer, than your scheduled appointment. Its totally ridiculous. They never bother to call and ket you know they are running late but if you happen to not be in time, they cancel you and charge you fir not showing up. read more

Having eye surgery here has been one of the worst decisions of my life! I was able to see better with my cataracts and glasses than I can now after having cataract surgery with premium implants. Dr. Krishna was always very rushed and didn't listen or communicate well at all! After the surgery when I questioned why my vision was so bad he was very rude and condescending towards me. Unfortunately I trusted him as the doctor to be knowledgeable with my procedure but from here on out will always do my homework before trusting doctors recommendation. This very expensive surgery has taken from me all of my distance vision and even worse made my up close vision completely nonexistent! Night time driving is full of glare and halos around all light fixtures and stop signals. This surgery has incapacitated far more than I was before. read more

Nelson Sabates should not be allowed to perform surgeries. He performed macular pucker surgery on my left eye, which left me partially blinded with extremely distorted vision. When I expressed my concern when the eye wasn't healing, he kept lying to me, by telling me it was getting better and the swelling just had to go down. He was also very condescending. Also after my cataract surgery on my right eye, a steroid was over-prescribed which resulted in my having to go to a corneal expert to save the eye. Please find another eye doctor and practice, unless you want to have problems and be treated with very little respect. read more

We were treated absolutely horribly at this office! I will start with stating I am visually impaired and my husband and I came in for his appointment. We arrived early and approached the desk and the receptionist told me that I needed to wear a mask to be helped. I informed her that I could not wear a mask due to my disability. Besides the fact that mask mandates have been dropped. Schools are in session without masks. The CDC silently changed their mask requirements again, masks are no longer required. So tell me why an eye doctors office is requiring masks? I have a guide dog and cannot see and they want to limit my ability to hear & speak with a mask on my face. They obviously don't know the rules for masking for persons with disabilities. She then asked me to stand outside for 2 hours without my husband in 80 degree weather to wait for him. Then they asked me to wait in my car without my (guide) husband. I was discriminated against because of my disability. The office receptionist and manager were completely rude, out of line and utterly disrespectful. I do not recommend this place as they don't accommodate persons with disabilities. Take your business elsewhere. read more

Your eyes, indeed, are your view into the world. As you get older, the eyes become older eyes. Especially if you've had to "do things" to them over time to maintain your vision. Sabates, and in this case, Dr. Walline, are doing their best to help maintain vision as time passes. I'm pleased with their work. read more

Eye (see what I did there) would like to give a major shout out to Sabates for servicing my aged eyes for over a decade. Each time without hiccup, no painful billing hassles, being on time/not having me wait in the waiting room for minutes on end wondering if they forgot about me and having such a friendly, knowledgeable and personable staff. I've been seeing Dr. Baumfalk (aka Dr. B) and she's fantastic. She's thorough, attentive and cautious. My eyes have been declining year-after-year since I've graduated college and she helped me identify my constant eye strain due to blue screen and prescribed me digitized glasses to help fight computer screen eye fatigue. They have an onsite Eye Glass Center for you to browse glasses and fulfill on your prescription there which is nice and convenient. This place works with most eye insurance, too. Dr. Camejo is one of the most caring doctors on the staff. He tries really hard to find out what is going on with my eyes , even collaborating with my medical doctor for my care. I have had a lot of older doctors who just don't care. This young doctor does. I am so grateful to have him for my doctor. read more

Don't trust their billing! On Sept 6, 2019, I went in for a routine annual eye exam. When I received the bill for the appointment, I realized they submitted the charge as a Medical Exam instead of VSP Comp Exam. With a Medical Exam my insurance considers the service under deductibles and would need me to pay it in full out of my own pocket(this is a fully covered service under my VSP plan). Essentially Sabates scheduled my appointment with the wrong code, submitted the wrong insurance claim, and charged me for their mistakes. And they refused to correct their mistakes!! read more

Sabates eye center is so wonderful and professional. Dr. Nelson has done a superb job with my mother. He is on staff with my husband at a number if hospitals in greater KC area. Unfortunately, the administrative staff is unprofessional and lacks customer service. You can't even get past anyone who answers the phone to talk to a nurse or doctor. Several years ago, I had a gold weight put in my eyelid by Dr. Lyon. I was referred by 3 other doctors to have him do the surgery. He did a fantastic job and have had no problems. Recently the gold weight became visible on the lower part of my eyelid. When I called to get a referral, talk to a nurse, or Dr. Lyon himself, I was told I just needed to make an appointment. I have since moved from the area. I let them know I had all my medical records with the communication between Dr. Lyon and my other doctors. I told them I could send all the information over since it was so long ago. That is when they told me to just look up a doctor who is an eyelid specialist in my area and go see them. I let them know that I would be happy to travel to come back and have anything done to fix the problem. All I wanted was to talk to his nurse, or Dr. Lyon before making unnecessary trips back, or get a referral to a doctor they would recommend in my area. I decided to go ahead and send an email with a picture of my eyelid and the 3 letters of communication between my other doctors. I even had my eye doctor in Texas call the office and send over a referral electronically and by fax. A week later I still hadn't heard back. I called again and they said they had not gotten the referral letter. My eye doctor sent another fax and let me know that he got confirmation that it went through. It has been 3 days now and still nothing. At least my eye doctor here in town has given me a referral to an Ophthalmologist . Their receptionist was very kind and let me know if I needed anything else to give her a call. Considering the situation with my eyelid, the doctor is fitting me into his schedule. I am sure that all the doctors are fantastic just like Dr. Lyon is. My main reason for writing this review is that one of the doctors will read this review and find out what is going on with their front desk. My husband and I have a business and we would be devasted if our clients or past clients were being treated this way. read more

Dr. Palouse has been my Ophthalmologist since I moved here over ten years ago. He is extremely knowledgeable and adept in his practice. Rude, unprofessional, unorganized. Not a place to go for something so important. This is my first time on yelp. I just had to vent and hold this company accountable for the 3 descriptions of this company above. Came in as scheduled after 2 visits prior. I was very excited! All the measurements for my eyes were checked, prescription checked, taking off work checked. I sat in the waiting room for about an hour, sat in the "pre medical room"for 4 hours. They gave me a medication to relax me and just before we were suppose to go in they said they need to reschedule because they don't have the proper equipment today. What??!! (Unorganized). I thought after waiting 2 months to get this scheduled surely they would get me right in! No, they said I would have to wait another 2 months. (Unprofessional) I waited for a call the following Monday, never received one... Tuesday I get a call from the schedule department. I told them that I was very disappointed and think they need to get me in in the next couple weeks at least. So the lady said that she would talk to the CEO or COO or who ever and get back with me that same day. Two days have passed and still no call back. (Rude) I'm checking into some other eye clinics now. I got some referrals and won't mention them just to stay credible on yelp. I think if you choose a place that is one of the most expensive, they should be the most Professional, Organized, and polite company in town. This place fell short by a long shot!! read more

Dr. Lyon and his staff are the best! Donna and I think it's Amanda (sorry, I'm not confident of her name) are sooo nice. If doctor Lyon is busy, they sit and visit. They don't just leave you in the room. I have had several eye surgeries and even the nurses at the hospital say how awesome Dr. Lyon is and if they or their family needed eye surgery, they'd want him to do it. I have an inch scar on both sides of my nose from blocked tear ducts. No one has ever told me they can see my scars even after I tell them they are there. He did an amazing job. So if you want someone that knows what their doing and has great "bed side manner", Dr. Lyon is who you should see. read more

Because my insurance plan only covers a no-cost annual checkup, this is what I requested and instead, an additional new test (tear osmolarity) was given that was outside of a standard checkup. Consequently, I was charged a $50 co-pay when I should have been charged. This is my first experience with Sabates and unlike all my previous experiences with annual exams, this is the first time I was charged a copay. I was never informed about the extra test would cost me since it was labeled as nonstandard. Had I been informed I would have declined this extra test. I won't be back. read more

Dr B and her assistant were extremely professional and thorough! No waiting--Was in waiting room less than 5 minutes and then examined immediately. My pre -appointment paperwork was mailed to my home so I could complete the authorizations in the comfort of my home which also sped up the initial visit. Don't go there if you need contacts. The first year we got contacts, it went fine. The second year, they gave us a different doctor (Hollins) and it was a terrible experience. Before we ever saw the doctor, I verified three times with three different people what the price of a contact lens fitting would be, and was told $50. At checkout, I was charged $75. I questioned this, and they went and got Dr. Hollins. He said he charged more because my prescription changed, and that the $50 quotes I had received were all estimates. I even had a copy of paperwork I had signed that morning with $50 circled. They said that I didn't have to pay the $75, but that if I didn't, I couldn't have my prescriptions. This experience was all bad enough. But once we filled the prescription, we found that he had written it incorrectly. Don't see Dr. Hollins. He can't get it right and he charges extra for it. read more

My husband and I both visited this location last year for a basic eye exam and prescription. At both of our visits, we had an incredibly long wait to be seen. Who wants to wait for 45 minutes for a 5 minute exam?? And I was very surprised to find out that the doctor didn't even do an exam. Her assistant, whoever she was, did all the testing and all the doctor did was come in, greet me, and write my script. ??? She did the same thing for my husband and he ended up having to go back multiple times to get his prescription corrected. But we gave them a second chance and my husband came back again this year and saw someone else in their office. Once again, he waited for over half an hour before asking when he was going to be seen. Finally he was brought back, declined to have his eyes dilated (because he had done it last year) and when the doctor came in, she refused to complete the eye exam without his eyes dilated. He explained that he had done it last year but apparently that doctor didn't put it in her notes so unless he would consent to do it again, which he didn't want to do, he would have to pay out of pocket for a general eye exam that day and come back to see the other doctor at another time. Then that eye exam could be filed with our insurance company as his yearly exam. Seriously! He refused to pay for an exam that didn't even involve the doctor, especially since she wouldn't release any prescription. I called the billing manager and explained the situation. Why should he have to pay out of pocket for an exam that the doctor didn't do, didn't result in a prescription, and would require him to come back in to do it all over again with a different doctor? The billing manager said she understood and would get back to me by 4. She never did. I also called and spoke to the manger of the company, expressing our frustration at the situation. He explained that the doctor had in her notes that she DID an exam and created a prescription. So apparently making an appearance in the room is considered an exam here. He also stated that he would talk to the doctor (i.e. get her side of the story because I, as a customer, must be lying for some reason) and he'd call me back. He also never did. Can you say "customer service at it's best!" Oh, and as a side note, they sent us his prescription in the mail. read more

My husband and I went to Sabates for comprehensive eye exams with Dr. McNaughton in Leawood. The entire process was easy and seamless, and the office personnel were extremely friendly and helpful. While we currently don't need any specialty services, it's very reassuring to know they have all kinds of specialists under one roof, if we should ever need them. I'm so happy we've found an eye care provider we feel good about. I highly recommend Sabates! read more
