Moseley is filled with so many good independent pubs (the Fighting Cocks, The Bulls Head and, of course, the legendary Prince of Wales) that it's not somewhere I would choose to go on a night out. Saying that, again, you know what you're getting. The food is always passable, the drinks are cheap and the selection is pretty good. They've recently included a lineup of craft ales and gins, so you can at least find something you will like (and end up spending much less on a round than in some of the other pubs in the area). On a Saturday morning (at 9:30am) there were already what I assume to be the "regulars" sipping on an ale, but it wasn't too busy, noisy or raucous. The place was pretty clean and the service was quite fast. All in all, if you're looking for somewhere to grab a bite or a quick drink, you could do worse than popping in here. The downstairs of the venue has not changed too much either in fairness but now has a cuban theme with flags and a bit of paint job. Its pretty simple on design but it works. For the event hosting by Dine Birmingham we were given a background into the production of rum and its origins while tasting five different rums. There was also a live band playing in the downstairs area of the venue which was a nice touch. To soak up some of the rum we were give half time snacks of patatas bravas and a bean stew, both were really tasty and have probably helped me not feel terrible today! I'm not sure if they are original. Its one of those pubs where you can hang out and feel cosy on a cold day with a roast and a pint. I do like the quirky female cubicle toilet doors decoupaged with old retro magazines and newspapers mixed with cut flowers. In the summer it's got a cool seating area outside.
