Popped in with a colleague for an early lunch on myway to a meeting in Coventry Lots of parking narby. Easy-going,friendly atmosphere. Tasy looking breakfast menu still being served at 11:45, but we opted for a cheee platter and a cold cuts platter. Well presented qualty produce ham, potted chicken, slami and a gorgeous hot tomato, red pepper and chorizo dish (the tenderest chorizo I have tasted melt in the mouth). The cheese platter had a good array of cheeses complimented with chutney, appe and celery. Washed down with a pint of Ubu or Doom Bar a worthy lunch time treat! BTW looks to be a favourite Mumsy morning meeting place lots of Mums and kids in evidence when we arived at 11:30 :-) read more

The Almanack - British Near Me - Kenilworth, WAR

This is one of those rare places that I would actually want to locate for. From the outside, it is a brick and glass building that somehow manages to look as welcoming as many traditional buildings. When you enter through the large double door entrance, you are greeted by a wide open space, with the extensive bar featuring in the middle. At the front, the bar area, there are a wide range of seats and tables, and all of this area is dog friendly (happy dance!). At the back (though I didn't explore) there is a dining area so dog lover or not, you can go and enjoy the ambiance, and a great meal. The menu is certainly interesting, though a bit of the pricey side. That said, from the food that I had, I'd say that it is worth the slightly higher prices, as it is a real delight. The decor is fresh and modern, bright and welcoming, with a retro feel to it. In the bar areas, framed album covers line the walls, and look out for the resident pig! There's a book shelf, cosy leather sofas, and an eclectic mix of tables. Now, when a pub boasts that it's dog friendly, I want proof of that as I find that allowing dogs in isn't always the same thing! The Almanac provide fresh water outside for dogs (the girl made sure it was full before letting us go out in the rain!) and all the staff (it seemed!) wanted to come over and say hello throughout our visit. The service was friendly, and the food delicious, well presented and moorish. I didn't try dessert, but plan to next time I visit, or when I visit their sister pub in Warwick! One particular little quirk that I liked that was the coffee. First of all, it was a delicious cup of strong coffee. Secondly, they served it with an old Golden Syrup tin filled with sugar cubes (makes such a refreshing change from paper sachets!) and finally, I had a little container of smarties with it. It was a lovely touch. So, yes, I'm a fan. There's good dog walking at Abbey Fields park (and free parking) and from the car park, its perhaps 10-15 minutes walk through the park to the pub, so perfect in every way! This was one of the first places I tried out after moving to Kenilworth, and I was not disappointed! The restaurant is cosy, well decorated, and is as good for drinks on a night out with friends as it is for date night with your partner. The staff is super friendly and quick to come take your order and bring you your food. The food itself is really good too, Have been there twice so far, once for the Sunday Lunch and another time for a simple dinner, and I left happy each time! Would definitely recommend. read more

Really Disappointing I'm Afraid. We'd been trying to get a table here for a few weeks and they've been booked up every time we tried (they've only been open since last Autumn), however, when we went on a Monday night the place was largely deserted. The menu looks quite varied and the food is - as far as possible - locally sourced, but Charcuterie board we had as a starter was (apart from the Chorizo), bland and unimaginative. The Fishcakes (plural) on their menu turned out to be a tennis ball sized single monster Fishcake that was impossible to finish, and rather uncooked in the middle. I asked for French Mustard with my (overdone)steak and it was SEARINGLY hot and rather more yellow than I thought 'French' mustard should be. The desert that was described as 'Cold Chocolate Fondant', was a brownie. I may have made poor choices on the menu, but I won't be going back for a second visit to find out. There are far better options in Kenilworth. The service was OK, but I think the Almanack doesn't know whether it wants to be a bar that serves food (the Space is dominated by a massive bar), or a brasserie. "Small town restaurant with big impact." There is a moment, that happens not so often, when something ordinary - like a breakfast - becomes an experience. Even if I were to try, I would not be able to count the amount of times I have eaten out. Sometimes I'm disappointed, while other times I leave satisfied but either way, it's soon forgotten. After all, it's easy to take for granted; being able to eat a meal is a human right. Then there are those moments where that human right is turned into something that little bit special. I've been to the Almanack in Kenilworth many times before and each time there has been an excellent service from it's attentive and friendly staff. It has the atmosphere of a village pub but the style of a hip, young restaurant. Even if they don't know you, they will greet you like an old friend, but they're not overly friendly or familiar. They don't need to put your name on your plate to make you feel like you're not just another table number. (Once, I had a birthday meal there. It was not a big table, just an intimate group of five. Anyway, they guessed by the birthday cards and a present under the table it was my birthday and after I'd ordered dessert, informed me that my ice cream was on the house. It's the little things, right?) Breakfast is something different; a tea or coffee entitles you to help yourself to the pile of bread - wholemeal and white - on the counter, and to make yourself some toast. Butter, jam, marmalade and Marmite all free for taking, while parents are encouraged to grab an apple for the children. I ordered the 'Eggs: Almanack' from the menu, decently priced. Two poached eggs - no runny centre - on a muffin, with spinach, some of the nicest smoked salmon I've ever tasted, and a hollandaise sauce. I'm not usually a breakfast person, but I managed to empty the plate without hesitation. There was only one complaint, and that being that they had run out of Black Pudding for the Traditional Breakfast my friend was having. Upon being questioned, the waitress was more than apologetic and enquired if there was anything else he'd like as extra to replace it, which he declined with thanks. The Almanack have tried to corner a niche; a village atmosphere in a small town. They have newsletters that offer discounts and promote their frequent themed evenings - remind me to make a note for the Cheese & Wine night!. It offers itself out as a place where you do feel important, you do feel like you're not a number, or a ticket, but you're valued. It's relaxing atmosphere is complimented by it's staff and by their fresh approach to running a business. And the biggest surprise? That this is part of a chain. I truly recommend a visit - whether it's popping in with the dog after a walk on Abbey Fields, for some post-work drinks, or if you're passing through town and your stomach is growling - it offers something for everyone and everyone is looking for something, right? read more

Almanack is the hip, elegant but very down-to-earth spot you want to have a night-out in Kenilworth for dinner, coffee or just beer. You feel comfortable with wearing jeans/casual shirt or being dressed up. The restaurant has very nice bar, open-designed space but cozy atmosphere with nice out-door tables. The best part of this restaurant is that I don't have to dress up but still feel like I'm in very upscale nice restaurant and being with down-to-earth crowds.Very friendly staff, generous portion for all the dishes. Daily specials for meat, fish dishes. I had fried cod and it was good. My friend had pork with mashed potato. Nothing extraordinary but good food. Don't miss their capuccino or dessert. The souffle was great to end your meal. I am visiting this small town and I didn't expect to find such a nice restaurant/pub. read more

I am normally not writing reviews, but this place was so terrible I need to warn other people. Either they had a bad day (barley any guests so at least not stress in the kitchen). Had the 3 course Monday deal, got deep fried fish which was like 10cm per fish, and they called it whitebait. I got a stake which had been cut of sides before severed to me, probably because those parts was to burned for even them to dare serve it to me. The stake it self only tastes burned coal even though it was medium rare. The Bea that came to it had less taste than pure butter. I am now afraid of the dessert... but not even if it's the best desert in the world, do this place deserve more than 0 stars. Never been so disappointed in my whole life for a meal read more

This is a fairly big place in the centre of town, so is pretty convenient for larger groups and casual dinners with friends and family. The restaurant is nicely decorated, and the staff are friendly. The menu sounds lovely, but often the food does not quite live up to the description, with expensive or luxurious sounding ingredients not seeming to make it into the meal. On one occasion, "patatas bravas" turned out to be roast potatoes with a tomato sauce. Not quite the same thing! read more

oooh I couldn't disagree with you more. My family love the almanack. I think it's just what Kenilworth has been looking for. It is a relaxed and friendly place. I love how light and airy it is and the fact that I can go in for a coffee with my little boy, meet my husband for dinner or just meet friends for drinks. It caters for all sorts of people. Last time I had Chicken Ballontine which was nothing short of divine. My husband had a great steak (think it was a bavette??) which he said was cooked to perfection. We shared a bottle of Malbec which was yummy and not too expensive The service was really good, friendly without being too intrusive. It was reasonably priced (I find some of the restaurants in kenilowrth very overpriced) and the quality was excellent I would recommend it to anyone read more

I have to agree. I went last week with my wife for a meal on grill night. The Steaks are just unbelievable. Had a T-bone Steak which comes on a wooden board for 2 to share. Onion Rings, Chips, Tomato, Peppercorn Sauce etc. I think it was something like 25oz! The Staff were great, very knowledgable about the meats available. A really good fun night. A member of staff told me that they were getting cowboy hats & a 6ft John Wayne to Theme the evening! Thats has to be worth a visit!! read more

Almanack is great. It has a nice atmosphere being both a decent bar and a decent restaurant. The food is always nice and interesting enough to make it a worthwhile experience. If you are staying in the area but are not a local resident, it is a really good place for a comfort feel with decent food and lively atmosphere that is smarter than a pub. You can eat better in few other places in Kenilworth (Harrington, the Cross etc), but the Almanack is probably the best for an easy evening out. read more

Fantastic atmosphere and really child-friendly. They've just introduced a kids' menu (my son loved the tomato pasta) and have free apples at the bar to encourage healthy snacking for the kids. The staff are very friendly and keen to help with any problems/requests. It's easily the most relaxing place in Kenilworth! read more

We didn't eat here, didn't get past the astronomical drinks round. Two large white wines, a pint of Peroni and a bottle of Peroni........£19.45. They're having a laugh, so we left. Went to Ego just down the road. Fantastic food, amazing staff and reasonable price read more
