Came here for a business dinner, and most of the food was good. A few of the starters were a bit dry. My lamb balti was excellent.

Yet we are not dog owners - No bitches with me. Seated us outside of restaurant in bar. Not willing to change eventhough I explained I have an injury seating is uncomfortable. Instead Mgr came to our table accussing me of being rude. Humiliation of a paying guest - where is that in Customer Service Training? When took our mains order Supervisor who noted the booking (with mystery dog left me out!). At end I went to pay for our party of 6. Was about to pay served by a member of staff who looked like an adult at till. Gen Mgr pushed me away. No excuse me, sorry, she barked at me rudely."I don't want to talk to you". Shockingly rude! Have Chronic Pain, being touched pushed is painful. Kept interrupting my Convo staff member serving me. How was I to know she was underage, just the lovely young lady who took our order with a bottle of Champagne. If underage and don't want her interacting with customers why employ her to take orders of alcohol etc. I was tearful. Then cake cutting the Supervisor brought over the wrong cake! If they let me finish explaining during payment they would have known which cake not the specially made one for a 30th Birthday! My son was 21yrs old and had a small cheesecake. I drove in pain from Surrey to Brum to take my precious son out for a 21st B'day lunch. Met with such hostility for a Special Occasion. Village so obsessed by dogs make up fictitious pets for diners and when they try to explain, discuss, call them rude. Unprofessional I regret just paying up in full for this horrendous experience. This level of service would be subject to a discount. 223 pounds - needs a part goodwill refund. I am still low close to tears. Meant to be a happy occasion.

The bar area is a pretty modern space, but still making the most of the older features and design. The bar is well stocked, with a top selection of beers and spirits that the bar staff are more than happy to chat about. The prices here are pretty standard for the area, not the cheapest in Brum but definitely not shocking. I love the fact that dogs are allowed inside here. In the time it took me to finish my Bloody Mary, two dog owners came to the bar with their animals not far behind. It's pretty rare to see such a relaxed vibe towards animals in a pub like this, for me it all adds to the charm. Worth a visit!

I've not eaten here but the menu has some modern flavours and smaller plates. I do like the quirky female cubicle toilet doors decoupaged with old retro magazines and newspapers mixed with cut flowers. In the summer it's got a cool seating area outside.

That aside the pub has been kept in great condition with pretty much all of the original features remaining which gives it that priceless 'back in time' feel when you walk in. However, if you're looking for a cheap pub that plays all the sports on TV then this is for you. I went with a friend to watch the football and have a couple of beers. Overall it had a nice chilled out vibe, unlike some of the city centre sport bars which can get a bit overwhelming at times. On a Sunday they have a free music event upstairs which plays everything from Jazz and soul to rock and country music. Personally I wish it was on every night as it really does provide the perfect soundtrack to such a characteristic classic venue.

If the TV show Cheers had been made in Birmingham then it would have been set here - literally, everybody knows your name. Even though I don't get down there as much as I used to (when I lived a few hundred years away!) I'm always greeted by name by both the bar staff and some of the locals. It's a genuinely friendly place with great beer that is a PROPER PUB. Some might call it an 'Old Man's Pub', which is completely fair, but that's what is so great about it. It's a particularly great place to watch sport, and football and cricket in particular. The locals are a knowledgeable crowd when it comes to both games and there is always a lively and friendly discussion to be had. They have recently started doing a different range of foods. You can get a pretty decent roast on a Sunday for around £4 and there is often a curry night that is well worth a visit. The curry is cooked by the landlord's wife and is excellent home cooked Indian food. The only word of caution I would offer about this place is to be careful when leaving late at night. It's not in the best or safest part of town and there have been a few nasty incidents in the park behind the place. These are pretty rare, in fairness, but I would recommend taking a cab home, or else going in sufficient numbers and with your wits about you, if travelling on foot.

Multi course taster menus are the order of the day here. We had 10 courses and, despite the prolific number, we left feeling satisfied but still fully able to walk. This is largely down to the attitude of the restaurant, as far as possible everything is local or at least British, plenty of foraging going on, and meat isn't the focus of every course. Yes this is a fine dining place that is perfectly happy to send out mostly vegetarian courses (and will be very happy to send out completely vegetarian courses for you), glory in the common carrot and takes a serious approach to food sustainability, you won't see more than a handful of meat. This fearless approach means that you will try things you haven't had before and there is a good chance you're going to be challenged so bring an open mind with you. Happily the kitchen doesn't lack for skills and any experimentation is only there with a purpose, using a flower to flavour cream rather than vanilla because it can be sourced locally for example. Service here is equally refreshing, the staff have a really great, relaxed and casual attitude, the kind that other fine dining restaurants try so hard to get but, of course, fail through trying. On top of that it's a bargain for the type of food on offer, £50 for 10 courses at the time of writing (£75 if you want matching drinks). Booking is essential so do yourself a favour and get onto the website.

We found it by walking down Theatre Approach and then turning right but I'm sure there's easier ways. The space itself is a little ramshackle with a wooden partition separating us from the rest of the building. Saying that, the walls are painted a lovely deep grey, the chairs were comfortable and it felt warm and intimate. The menu is ten courses for £50 at the moment, which is a lot cheaper than similar places. We also had the matched drinks for an extra £25. Not just wine, this included a Japanese beer, English sparkling wine and a splendid dessert wine which tasted of raisins. Our ten courses were of the wonderful standard we've come to expect from Nomad. They included several starters, a fish course, duck and three puddings. As usual, the emphasis is not on meat and cream and I left feeling comfortably full. Highlights included a little mallard 'lollipop' with pickled vegetables, perfectly cooked red mullet with ramson and the most delicious potatoes, poached pear with almond sponge and pretty much the whole thing. Nomad have an emphasis on using UK ingredients, meaning they used something called melliot instead of vanilla. I love how Nomad challenge your expectations and give you something you've not tried before. Service was lovely, relaxed and friendly but also efficient and knowledgeable. I really hope Nomad continue to push things forward and are rewarded for it.

Beautiful setting and food but during my visit I never felt fully comfortable....I think this was because of it being a nice day and the staff being rushed off their feet.... I decided to go for the haloumi salad (summer body....think summer body) which was decent enough with a few strips of halumi over an alright salad. When it arrived I had not been given a knife and fork so in an absolute hunger started picking with my fingers....I would however like to point out that this was after a few times of asking for a fork.....let's face it in these desperate times you have to take desperate measures....After a few bore picks I think the waiter finally took pity on my feeble attempt to eat the salad and got us the cutlery we needed. The overall salad was good....not mindblowing and a slightly small portion for the money.... I know this was probably just a bad day for the cafe but I have to review on the experience I had this time round. If you are reading this thinking should I go to kitchen garden....you most definitely should. its an oasis of calm tucked away on a side street of Kings heath busy high street....but my advise ask about wait times before ordering....they seem to be getting more and more popular and this can slow down the service. Ill be back!! But maybe for drinks and soup as with my previous visit which was amazing :)

And I mean that quite literally. From Kings Heath's infamous York Road, you must find the humble signage and walk through the the alley of greenery before you get to the garden area of the Cafe. The website calls it an "Oasis of calm" and you know what? It really is. With a feel of a conservatory in the garden rather than a restaurant; this place is rustic in all the right ways. I chose to sit inside the cafe (as the weather couldn't decide what it was doing) and sat by the large glass windows which look out onto the green garden area. I popped to the counter to order a filter coffee (a very reasonable £1.65), but they had run out at the time. "Not a problem", said my friendly server "I'll whip you up an Americano for the same price". Now that's service! The coffee was good too. Fragrant and not bitter, it certainly hit the spot! All of the staff I encountered during my visit were friendly, smiley and helpful. There was a lovely vibe in the venue and several different groups were enjoying a spot of food or a nice coffee whilst I was in there. Some people were (like me) clearly doing a spot of work, some people were taking the opportunity to have a good catch up with friends and some brave souls were sitting outside and celebrating a birthday. I didn't eat on this visit, but I intend to go back and give it a go at some point. The food that I saw looked delicious and defiantly warranted another trip to KH. I can't give this place 5 stars (as I haven't fully tried all that it has to offer), but if the menu is as good as it looks - it might get bumped up in the future. Just as a note, it does offer WiFi - but the connectivity wasn't strong (no biggie, I just tethered off my phone). I thoroughly recommend a trip here for a spot of dinner or a relaxed drink with friends.

We were at Carters with Edd's parents for a celebratory meal so we went for the 7 course tasting meal with wine pairing. There is also the option to have five courses. Water was topped up throughout the meal and we had a new glass of wine with each course. The wines were amazing and I highly recommend going for the pairing if you can. Expect light, fresh reds, crisp whites and a surprise rose. Plus Nyetimber demi sec. Service was fantastic obviously. They explain each course and each wine in such a relaxed but knowledgeable fashion. I've left food until last. Obviously it's a tasting menu so the courses are small. I loved that I didn't feel stuffed at the end. Food is British in origin and influence. We had several 'snacks' to start. My favourites were the chicken liver cereal and the Tamworth cured ham. My favourite course was the sea trout with vibrantly fresh green peas. I also loved the ewe's yoghurt with fennel and blueberries. This isn't the wackiest or most inventive tasting menu I've had but it's lovingly put together and cooked and was truly delicious! One for a special occasion, needless to say.

Went here for a valentines meal which we booked three months in advance due to its popularity…read more I know a couple of people who had been here and they said it was well worth going, so we was very excited leading up to it. Not long before we got a call to tell us the menu and the price, £85 a head!!!! We debated about weather we should go and actually pay that price and eventually decided to do it. It would be a one off and we really had only read and heard really really good things about the place. I wish we had decided that it was just too much because it was not worth that price. We had seven courses which were very small and oddly served on huge plates which made the portions seem even more ridiculous. I get that for a lot of courses you do not have a lot of food for each one but this really was tiny. I had hoped that for the price I was paying that the meal would be the best I had ever had and sadly it wouldn't even make it in to the top 5 despite having paid about triple the amount. Some dishes were nice but there was no where near as much flavour as I expected or the creativity I had hoped for a Michelin starred restaurant. Some of the dishes were just bad such as the kale grains and seeds. The best one was roast red deer with parsnips and by far the worst was the pudding which was a Yorkshire rhubarb tart. The rhubarb was extremely sour which it shouldn't be and the rest of the dessert consisted of a wafer on top of sorbet. Both were nice but it's not what you expect for the money in the slightest. I left with a sour taste in my mouth (was it the rhubarb or the price?) and wouldn't be going back. People have labelled it as an 'experience' and that its 'fine dining' and people assume that you don't know what you are talking about if you don't enjoy it, you must be in the wrong. I'm not saying I'm an expert on food but I could tell this was not worth the money. It represented the stereotypical nature of Michelin starred restaurants that you assume is a myth e.g big price, pretentious customers and lack of food. I cannot however fault the service. The way we were treated was excellent, they were attentive, constantly were asking us if we needed anything without feeling obtrusive and seemed to have a good knowledge of the food and drink that was served. They are the reason that I felt I couldn't give this a one star. If people were curious to go I would say 100% go for lunch first to get an idea of what it's like without paying such a huge price tag. But don't get your hopes up as the cheapest is still £35 which for lunch is crazy. The tagline on the website is simple, affordable, fun. Don't be fooled.
