The wow factor here is HUGE! Billed as 'Your Urban Home From Home' they have certainly delivered this. Here we have a fully open plan layout, a fireplace with wood burner, a flock of flying duck ornaments above it, a MOOSE'S head above that and high ceilings. On this early Winter's afternoon, I feel like I've been personally invited to this log cabinesque sanctuary, such is the level of all-round warmth emanating from this parlour, its punters and its staff. I've only just sat down with a tankard of 1799 porter and I'm being asked if I'd like water for my table. (The staff are sharp here as well as welcoming). I'm not eating on this occasion, though browsing the menu, I've promised myself I'll be back within the week.
At my second trip to the bar, I see that there's lots of choice of ales courtesy of Green King, and a well-stocked top shelf with a good range of premium spirits.
There's a tendency at the moment for pricing wine at a cost that makes it the reserve of the wealthy, when it should be priced for all. The Village seem to be following this trend. A large glass in here costs what the bottle would in an off-license. The wines here are pretty high-end, mind, with a Chateauneuf du Pape as the king of the list.
And al fresco? Oh yes. There's what can only be described as a delightful smoking area, with a phrase in artificial turf on the wall which might well make lone smokers who've left their group inside get talking to others. There's a more open smoking terrace too, which will be welcomed come the Spring.
The new owners have certainly upped the ante in terms of Moseley & Kings Heath pubs with this £800k make-over.
Totally transformed, The Village is now a lovely place to be, with friends, with family or with visitors to the city. You feel wanted there and you want to be there. read more
