Rude, bullying Gen Mgr & lax Supervisors. Booked table for Sunday Lunch, a day in advance via phone. Supervisor noted down we are bringing a dog. Yet we are not dog owners - No bitches with me. Seated us outside of restaurant in bar. Not willing to change eventhough I explained I have an injury seating is uncomfortable. Instead Mgr came to our table accussing me of being rude. Humiliation of a paying guest - where is that in Customer Service Training? When took our mains order Supervisor who noted the booking (with mystery dog left me out!). At end I went to pay for our party of 6. Was about to pay served by a member of staff who looked like an adult at till. Gen Mgr pushed me away. No excuse me, sorry, she barked at me rudely."I don't want to talk to you". Shockingly rude! Have Chronic Pain, being touched pushed is painful. Kept interrupting my Convo staff member serving me. How was I to know she was underage, just the lovely young lady who took our order with a bottle of Champagne. If underage and don't want her interacting with customers why employ her to take orders of alcohol etc. I was tearful. Then cake cutting the Supervisor brought over the wrong cake! If they let me finish explaining during payment they would have known which cake not the specially made one for a 30th Birthday! My son was 21yrs old and had a small cheesecake. I drove in pain from Surrey to Brum to take my precious son out for a 21st B'day lunch. Met with such hostility for a Special Occasion. Village so obsessed by dogs make up fictitious pets for diners and when they try to explain, discuss, call them rude. Unprofessional I regret just paying up in full for this horrendous experience. This level of service would be subject to a discount. 223 pounds - needs a part goodwill refund. I am still low close to tears. Meant to be a happy occasion. read more

The wow factor here is HUGE! Billed as 'Your Urban Home From Home' they have certainly delivered this. Here we have a fully open plan layout, a fireplace with wood burner, a flock of flying duck ornaments above it, a MOOSE'S head above that and high ceilings. On this early Winter's afternoon, I feel like I've been personally invited to this log cabinesque sanctuary, such is the level of all-round warmth emanating from this parlour, its punters and its staff. I've only just sat down with a tankard of 1799 porter and I'm being asked if I'd like water for my table. (The staff are sharp here as well as welcoming). I'm not eating on this occasion, though browsing the menu, I've promised myself I'll be back within the week. At my second trip to the bar, I see that there's lots of choice of ales courtesy of Green King, and a well-stocked top shelf with a good range of premium spirits. There's a tendency at the moment for pricing wine at a cost that makes it the reserve of the wealthy, when it should be priced for all. The Village seem to be following this trend. A large glass in here costs what the bottle would in an off-license. The wines here are pretty high-end, mind, with a Chateauneuf du Pape as the king of the list. And al fresco? Oh yes. There's what can only be described as a delightful smoking area, with a phrase in artificial turf on the wall which might well make lone smokers who've left their group inside get talking to others. There's a more open smoking terrace too, which will be welcomed come the Spring. The new owners have certainly upped the ante in terms of Moseley & Kings Heath pubs with this £800k make-over. Totally transformed, The Village is now a lovely place to be, with friends, with family or with visitors to the city. You feel wanted there and you want to be there. read more

The Village is a lovely relaxed pub with a friendly atmosphere. The interior has a modern vintage twist of chandeliers made from bicycle parts, a gold bicycle wall decoration and black framed silhouette artwork. There are spacious large booths which I book to accommodate a few friends. I've been here a couple of times for Sunday lunch. The starters and mains are very generous portions and wonderful flavours. The menu is varied with traditional English and modern classic such as burgers on brioche buns. I had a starter of pea soup and a classic roast beef lunch. The beef was very tender however the Yorkshire pudding was slightly dry and the orders arrived late but it was a busy Sunday afternoon and the village apologised and offered free cake or dessert from there wonderful display of cakes and for the child inside large sweet jars sit on a shelf above the cakes to pick and mix. I would still recommend going here, the staff are very helpful and accommodating. read more

I've visited the Village a number of times now - typically either to meet business contacts, for lunch, or both. Each time I've enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. The staff are friendly and attentive and the place is spacious with outdoor seating for the Summer. For working, there is free Wi-Fi. The food is good, although a little pricey compared to other nearby pubs. Parking at the rear of the building is chargeable (although refunded with your purchase) and the car park can be a little tight, although there is plenty of on road parking on the nearby streets. read more

Underrated. Seriously. This is a classic Moseley kind of place. Not as cool as some of its neighbours - there's no hidden tiki bars out the back a la Prince, it doesn't serve on trend plates of delicious BBQ like the Dark Horse, and there's not 100's of wines from around the world or small plates like Cheval. What it does is great, pub food, provides excellent and friendly service and doesn't cost the earth. We were here for the Mother's Day special menu, which delivered no duds during our 3 courses. Being the sharing kind of folks we are, I tried pretty much everything that we had. Starters were great - wild creamy mushrooms on Peel & Stone ciabatta, the same P&S bread with hummus and a classic prawn cocktail all hit the mark. The mains were traditional Sunday fare - beef (which had a fabulous smokiness to it, hitting from the first bite), pork belly (ok) and my own fish pie, which was creamy, jam packed full of prawns and cod and the fluffiest potato topping I've ever had. Desserts (which we kind of forced ourselves into finishing due to our collective fullness...) were spot on - my brownie with cherry ice cream and cherries was stunning, and a white chocolate parfait which was creamy and smooth all went down a treat. This place is a little off the main Moseley drag so is easy enough to rule out. But it's well worth a visit for honest, no nonsense grub and drinks! read more

Really love the new look Village. It is a really nice atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I had the pulled pork sandwich which wasn't great. The bread was not very fresh and the pork was very fatty. That said I will try it again and try something different, the venue and the service deserves a second chance. also a bit pricey! read more

The Village came under new ownership at the end of 2013 & from then it's been the main pub/restaurant that I visit when I m in Moseley. It's a versatile venue that suits all weathers - it has a spacious bar area & a large relaxed dining area alongside the large terrace which is perfect for sunny afternoons. The bar areas includes some large sofas which can be booked & we often use these when going as a group bad taking small children. On that note, I'm not sure if it's just Sundays but it is definitely the gastro pub of choice for all those with little ones. Just worth remembering if you have a bad head after a late one the night before. The decor is beautiful & quirky and feels like an interesting place to tak someone who may not have finished before. You can see there's a lot of attention to detail here including well finished bathrooms which are a pleasure to visit. I ve sampled the food a couple of times which was enjoyable. A pulled pork bun which was very tasty, not too spicy & a fish burger which from memory was delicious & very filling. The menu has changed a little since then so I'll need to return and see if this 4 becomes a 5! read more

I was eager to visit The Village Inn from seeing Ben C's review and great photos - and it certainly did not disappoint. Externally, it's a very impressive old pub which has been lovingly cared for. Stepping inside is the real "Wow" moment. Straight away I spotted the wonderful wallpaper, the vintage bike and the high ceiling over the dining area. It's a bit of a T.A.R.D.I.S and is much bigger on the inside than you might expect from first look. It has several different areas; the bar area, the chilled out sofa area, a "pub" area (with chairs and tables) and a large dining area. As it was quite busy (which you would expect for a Friday near Christmas), we opted to sit in the beer garden. Not as as weird as you might think when you see the comfy heated garden area with large wooden tables. There are much larger outdoor areas (could comfortably accommodate a few hundred people), but the area nearest the wall with the fake grass words; "Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet" really compounds the design aesthetic of this impressive venue. It was Dan G's round by the time we had hit the Village (so I cannot comment on the price of a beer), but I believe a pint is pretty pricey (above £4). The selection of ales isn't huge, but does cover most tastes. I opted for a St Edmund and Dan went for a pint of Directors. As with all the pubs we visited, the Ale was well kept and tasted fresh. We didn't eat here, but I was told a Roast Dinner is pretty pricey (and a tad poncey) at above £15; but I would give it a go (if not just to sit in the fabulous Dining hall). This was one of the most Stylish pubs we visited on our CMYE (and we visited some very well designed pubs), and I look forward to my revisit. Give it a go, even just for one (be prepared for steep prices) to have a nose. read more

Came here to celebrate Mother's Day with the in laws. For starter I had the beetroot humus with pitta bread. Really tasty and beautiful in colour. For mains I had the veggie sausage and mashed potato from the kid's menu as I wasn't a fan of the other veg items on the menu. I have to say the kids meal was value for money as it came with the main meal, a drink and ice cream or a brownie. I had a brownie with ice cream for dessert. It was beautiful. My mother in law had the ssquash pie with potatoes. It was very dry. She did not enjoy it. At all. I should have told the manager but I didn't want to embarrass my mother in law. The service was very good. The decor is absolutely beautiful. There is a bicycle on the wall along with a moose head. The toilets are stunning. It is like a museum. You just want to look at everything. read more

I had only been here once before the refurb (when it was a bit chain-bar ish), now the place looks really lovely with a lovely teal colour on the walls and comfy sofas There is also a real log fire, so it will be so lovely to sit in there on a winter evening. One area of the pub is reserved for diners only, but it is a fairly spacious bar, so no problem getting a seat. Service at the bar was fairly quick too. Yes, I would go back again despite the fact I would have to get a bus there! read more

The Village is a (semi) local pub for me. I have visited pretty regularly since the new owners took over a couple of years ago and it had a complete makeover. The decor is professionally cultivated and there is a general air of space about the venue. It is child friendly, which is always a bonus for a mum with a toddler, and there are seating areas of a variety of arrangements. Last Sunday I went to The Village to celebrate my brother in law's birthday. As always there was a lovely atmosphere and the staff were very accommodating. I ordered a beef roast. When the food came it was very well presented. My only complaint was that there wasn't much if it - three slices of (good quality) beef and three roast potatoes accompanied by two small bowls of vegetables to share between three people. However, despite the disappointing size the meal was delicious. The meat was tender and the potatoes were perfectly cooked. I especially enjoyed the cauliflower cheese despite the fact that I don't like cauliflower! One of my favourite things about this venue is the toilets. They are simply the type of toilets that you are happy to visit. They are always clean with lots of interesting things to look at. The venue provides both soap and moisturiser, in addition to good quality hand towels which is a great improvement on the standard hand dryer or paper towels that fingers burst through when wet. I'm fortunate enough to be able to call The Village my local. It's a smartly turned - out pub, spacious and with contemporary decor. It always feels homely. The beers and ciders are well kept and the food has progressed from being quite hit and miss to consistently good. It offers a different vibe to some of Moseley's more lively spots, and I personally really like the laid back atmosphere read more

I go for the papers and to people watch staff are v friendly parking is refunded fab. Mar 2016 had bagel with poached eggs and guacamole and hollandaise pots outstanding. Was perfect. Enjoyed every mouthful. Tried again for the same dish a few weeks later. Not a patch. After a refurbishment 2 years ago, the Village is a very spacious and attractive place to go. The choice of wines and beers are pretty good (though a little overpriced) although the food seems to vary hugely in quality. I have eaten there 3 times and I don't think the dishes justify the price tag. One time I ate there I had to send my food back to be reheated as it came out close to cold. I also find it strange that it is clear the pub has made a joke of its own name by putting a picture of a bicycle under the word "Village" (see what they did there?) and have decorated the whole place with bicycle memorabilia, but don't have a single bike rack anywhere on the premises, in an area of Birmingham where many people travel by bike. read more
