Just to make things clear for the purpose of this review - I haven't eaten here. I was here last week for a book launch in the Laurent Perrier Champagne bar (I know, get me right?) so haven't sampled the food.
To be honest, I didn't think I would ever have a chance to get to this venue. Situated on top of the Cube (just next to the Mailbox), this venue is well known for being posh, and as such; pricey. Now, I don't mind paying a bit more for a drink if i know it's going to be an experience... And I'm pleased to say that that's exactly what I had.
So. Yes. Back to the Champagne bar. To get to it is currently a bit of a mission. With the work being done on the Mailbox, you have to navigate your way through the construction site to get canalside. Once you have - follow the path around until you get to level 6 (I believe it's level 6) of the Cube. To access MPW, jump in the lift in the hotel (this is signposted - but not clearly) and travel to level 25 (the top floor of the lift). Once you are up there it's left for the restaurant and right for the champagne bar.
The champagne bar looks exactly how you would expect it to be. It's plush, white, leather and immaculately kept. On our visit the weather was scorchingly hot, so the room became a bit of a greenhouse but there is air conditioning by the bar. The views over the City are worth roasting for. It's got to be one of the highest viewing points the public can get to and a brilliant backdrop whilst you are sipping a glass of something nice.
I was surprised that the bar wasn't as pricey as I thought. Yes, you ARE going to pay more than most of the city pubs - but if you are looking for a place with kudos to visit for a date or a special occasion, it's a great shout. The balcony that links the restaurant and the Champagne bar together is fabulous too. On busy nights there is live music and the views, again, are unparalleled.
This isn't the kind of place you go to grab a drink with a mate just because... but you HAVE to go just to see how the other half live. Honestly. Just do it. read more
