Absolutely the worst restaurant experience ever. We booked a table here to celebrate our engagement with family. First red flag raised when the staff looked blankly at a request for 'peroni,' and couldn't decipher the cocktail names printed in their own menu. Don't visit with a Scottish accent, apparently.
Unbeknownst to us, a kind uncle and aunt had called to pre-order champagne for the table. No champagne when we arrived so one member of the party queried this. Staff member said she would check with a colleague. She and a colleague discussed the query with a manager in my peripheral vision and I was a little concerned to see them giggling and looking over. Cue the same manager waltzing over and announcing to me(!) that the card had been declined for the surprise champagne. As if the lack of tact wasn't bad enough, she didn't bat at eyelid at announcing this to the whole table and literally didn't understand why I had concerns at their giggling. I asked to speak to someone else as the communication difficulties and unprofessional, childish behaviour had already driven me up the wall. Another manager came over and failed abysmally at addressing the situation, offering simply to add the totally absent champagne to the bill for the table. No class whatsoever. The original manageress proceeded to argue with me, telling me that she had in fact been entirely professional. A contradiction in terms when you are arguing with your customers. Meanwhile the waitresses stood awkwardly looking us up and down...
By this point we were adamant that we were leaving to go somewhere else and I asked for the contact details for the owner. The general manager appeared several minutes later and although I think her apology was genuine, her facial expressions suggested that we were either exaggerating or out and out lying about the staff's conduct. She did request that we stay so that they could "look after us" but none of us felt like we could "celebrate" there.
We went off somewhere else and had a great meal in the end. Would never return here, and they need to do some serious training with the staff - in hindsight, it wasn't all that surprising that there were only two other tables in the restaurant on a Saturday night. Both managers who initially responded to the escalating tension were incapable of basic communication and the female manager made things far worse by her unprofessional giggling and subsequent outburst. read more
