I enquired to see how much they would charge to replace the intake pipe that connects to the MAF sensor on my GTi (which is like a 30 minute job). They said it's $200 for the part (reasonable) but that labor would be $440. I was blown away by this. I immediately hung up and called somewhere else. That other place I called after quoted me $50 for labor, EMD auto in Anaheim. Ridiculous price for such a small job. After reading the reviews I was hopeful they place as fair, it's a shame they tried to rip me off. read more

Save a bug is a great resource. They have many parts for busses and other vws. IT seems they have the most competitive prices on bus parts. Some others are a little higher than other suppliers online. If you dont want to wait for shipping these guys are usually the place to go. Some other models and special order I would Take it case by case but I would always call them for a quote because chances are you will save...... A bug. OR bus. read more

I had been looking to purchase a 1970s vintage VW bus. I stopped by and spoke to Josh from Save A Bug. He had just purchased a dilapidated 1976 Bus from a little old lady in Pasadena. His plan was to fix it up for his self. I sweet talked him into restoring it for me. He was patient and informative during the process of the restoration. He reupholstered the interior completely. Provided a super paint job with an original color available for that year bus. Made sure the engine was squeaky clean and purring like a kitten. He sent me pictures as the work on the bus progressed. He and his dad as well as the other personnel that work at Save A Bug were as excited for me to have the bus as I was to get it. He charged me a great price! READ THIS! I simply cannot believe the few negative reviews I see here. I'm a San Clemente resident that has been looking for a VW Bus for years. I've watched and monitored all the Samba ad's, etc. I connected with Josh (the son) and explained what I was looking for. After several conversations he showed me an old, beat up bus and told me to "have vision". He then showed me some of his work / buses at various stages of completion. I put a deposit down and let the SAB team go to work. He kept me updated throughout the process and sent pics at various stages. I now own the bus I've always wanted. Worst place to take your classic vw. Very little actual quality to there work. If you are looking for a place to get fast cheap not very high quality work this is the place to go. They may or may not steal your bus from you while they were supposedly working on it. I would not trust the son. The father isn't much better tho. The son will be the downfall of the business. I wouldn't take my classic vw there if it was the last place on earth. If I had taken my bus some where else I would be driving it around still to this day. Instead a kid at the time got his bus stolen from him by a thief. read more

Great place! My family has two VW (2003 VW Golf and 2005 VW Jetta) and we have been taking them to Save A Bug (SAB) for about 5 or more years. We only rely on them for our oil changes and anything having to do with VW because we know they will do them right. We used to go to outside places before we found SAB and they were not using the correct oils and parts for a VW, so once we found this place our cars having been running smoother and do not break down as they used too. It's a family run business and they are all very friendly and approachable. They will tell you what is wrong and do it all for a reasonable price. They ALWAYS inform you of whats needs to be done, detail by detail, before they do them and never pressure you into doing everything at once if you cannot afford. They will be honest and let you know what are the most important things that need to be done soon. I completely recommend anyone who lives in Riverside and who has a VW to come to SAB! read more

I officially love Save a Bug! My VW Cabrio was overheating with the AC on while in traffic or idling. Josh and Luis were so awesome - they took their time figuring out what the actual problem was. My car is from the East Coast so there was a ton of rust but that didn't stop them. Now I have AC! Woot woot! Luis walked me through what he was working on and really made me feel like my car was in good hands. They were honest and took me and my car seriously. :) I will be going back! SWINDLERS! So I called this guy for an air hose for my 1998 Beetle. I tell him its the hose on the top shape like an L, he tells me its 37 dollars so I go down there and he then tells me after looking at it its 67 dolars so I order the part and the part comes in. I decide to check the dealers price and its 57 dollars. So I go to this place and tell them I changed my mind because the dealer was 10 cheaper he tells me theres no refunds on special orders . I then remind him that he intially quoted me 37 dollars and proceeds to argue that he thought it was the other hose so I said whatever I will just take the hose and chaulk it up to experience he says no Im giving you your money back. I said so your refusing to sell me the hose, he said yes. I said I guess your company doesnt care much about reviews or what people think about you, he stayed silent and gave me my money back. I was also worried because he failed to even give me a receipt. I would advise everyone to look on line for parts or go to other dealers for parts these guys at least the fat one is a swindler and will size you up to see if he can get over.They have a poor businees practice and wasted my time and gas.If you have money and time to waste try them out, but there attitude is were exclusive we dont need your money and could careless what you think. Maybe if you dont have an old bug they assume you have money who knows who cares would never do business with them again if the were the last VW dealer on the earth. read more
