In around 2017 or so, I called and asked for how much it would be to weld a catalytic converter into my Explorer (Ford '91) and was given a excellently fair price. I went on over and waited and observed that the job was taking quite a bit of time. When the work was finished, I was told that I would only have to pay the price that I was quoted over the phone. I was surprised and grateful. So, I told him that I saw that the job took quite a lot of work and the welder said that the job should have cost a lot more. I gave him an extra ten bucks to show my appreciation. I believe that Jerl's Muffler and Brake has honest and fair people working for them. Based on that experience and speaking with them over the phone, I recommend them to everyone who needs their vehicle serviced according to their abilities (mainly Muffler & Brakes). I am going to see if they can work on my current vehicle and do a job on it. It has a broken off lug bolt that I need taken out. They can attempt to do the job but because their price is uncertain and a bit more than I would like to pay, I will go with a different shop. Initially, they referred me to America's Tire but they don't do that kind of work. America's Tire referred me to Brake Masters. I called them and they sound more than fair. They in turn referred me back to America's Tire for mounting and balancing... Just goes to show you how a good reputation means a lot and is hard to come by, especially in the automotive industry. read more

I always took our cars here before new owners and everything was great. But this time we paid over $400 for front brake repairs and just.a couple of days later my brakes sound the same. Grinding just like they were when I took them. I have kids in my car. There are numerous reviews with the same issues. One person stated he found out brakes were never fixed from another mechanic. I was visiting my boyfriend from out of the area. My car fan was continuously running and hence my temperature gauge was rising quickly in the hotter weather. We spoke to Don and he arranged for my car to be dropped off and provided me with a comprehensive overview check, as well as look at my fan issues! The car was there less than a day and he provided a list of suggested things to do "at some point" in the future which I was grateful for. No hard sell, just a "hey, pay attention to these areas..." He also discovered a faulty shredded serpentine belt that my mechanic up north had overlooked, possibly saving me from additional costly repairs. I wish there were 10 stars! I went here to have my brakes done. When I walked into the shop I was impressed with how clean and welcoming the waiting area was. They carefully checked my brakes and the repairs needed were diagnosed. Most shops you may need to wait over an hour for parts. The brake items were there in less than 10 minutes! I switched over here to get my brakes done a month ago, heard some squealing. So I got the front ones done, a month and just over 2,000 miles later I still hear the sound so I go back to them to check it out. The first visit I was told would be around 4 or so hours, I got there at 9:30 and they hadn't let me know about finishing it until 3:50, which I know is busy, but 6 hours for just the front seems very excessive for a place specializing in brakes among many other things. The second visit they say the front still seems good and the rear needed brake pads and rotors replaced from the grooves on both and lip on one of them. I took it back for the moment and about 2 days later I hear not just more squealing but scraping as well from the front. The people I met there were very nice and the service was straightforward, but for the time it took to get to this point let alone this result, was honestly unreasonable and disappointing to say the least. I don't doubt there's things they are easily trustworthy for given the reviews, and I am open to having my mind changed down the road, but this hasn't been a good experience all in all unfortunately. read more

So I came in one morning about 9am, I was the only person in the shop, and none of the workers appeared to be particularly busy. I was greeted by a friendly sales associate I presume, and he proceeded to ask if he could help me. I went on to tell him that I was looking for a new muffler to put on my vehicle. He went on to give me his recommendations and educate me on the different type of mufflers. After a short discussion, I made a selection on the muffler I wanted to be put on my vehicle. He asked me if I was looking to have it installed now, and I proceeded to tell him, absolutely, if it could be done now that would be great! So the sales associate went into the back office, and asked a guy in the back, "Hey, do you feel like installing a muffler for a customer?" And the guy in the back, obviously thinking I must be hard of hearing, said to the sales associate, "No, not really..." The sales associate came back a few moments later and apologized telling me, unfortunately his muffler guy wasn't in today, and asked if I wanted to make an appointment. SO LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT, you obviously possess the ability to install the muffler, but you just don't feel like it. Bad business, at least have the decency to have that conversation out of my earshot. That's how you lose customers. read more

I needed a single catalytic converter and the Chevy dealership said they were backordered. I called a couple places which they did not have any available or could not get at any moment. Josh said to bring the truck in and they would take a look at it. I dropped the truck off and I was thinking it was going to be two or three days. CARB catalytic converter compliance is a joke in my opinion as it causes an over abundance of difficulty in getting parts and increases the cost to NASA levels. Jerls gave me a price and I accepted with the additional condition that I wanted all three catalytic converters changed as I didn't want to do this again next year. They said they were able to get the parts which is awesome. They replaced all three cats in the same day they received the truck and stayed a half hour later after closing to receive me so I was able pick it up the SAME DAY... Done! My daughter had her catalytic converter stolen and we needed a repair as quickly and and efficiently as possible. The young man I spoke to over the phone was very nice. When I get to the shop I get a 180 degree difference. The young man's father is trying to have me along with another person in the shop a $130 inspection fee????? None of the other shops did this. Maybe I'm wrong but after I questioned it in front of people he said you don't have to pay that part?? I already showed the picture of the cat and it just needed replacement. No rewiring or major repairs. Just seemed a little scammy! Beware out there. I went to 5 shops that day. All of them were great except this one. Seems like it's more about money and not service. They were also almost $200 more then the shop I took it to and that is not including there inspection fee. read more

Just brought my Subaru Forester in to fix a loud noise coming from the rear of my vehicle. They put my SUV up on a lift and showed me exactly what the problem was. I have brought it to DCH Subaru 2 weeks earlier, and the Subaru guys told me I needed new Struts. They won't show you what is wrong, but just tell you to trust them. I spent $1100, but when I left the service center lot, the noise was still there. Went back a few days later and this time they said it was a rear bearing -- but again, they couldn't show me the problem, just offered to fix it for $715. I said no and took it to Jerl's (where I had new brakes put on my Subaru the prior year). Jerl's fixed it for $543 (parts and labor). I had work done here because of the great Yelp ratings. My wife's old SUV needed a steering rack, shocks, struts and alignment so I called Jerl's and spoke with Menno. He had quoted me prices that were higher than I expected. I had performed research on the parts and had a good idea about how much I should be paying. I told him about my research knowing that he had to make some money on the mark-up for the parts. He had contacted another supplier and had given me a much better price on the parts. I preferred to have a parts and labor warranty rather than furnish my own parts and have no warranty. I arranged an appointment and brought the car in first thing in the AM. The shop has a nice waiting area with a TV and free coffee. Bottled water is sold here for $1. After it was confirmed what I needed, I Uber'ed out of there and came back to pick it up towards the end of the day. I drove it out of there and immediately noticed that the car was pulling to the right so the alignment was off. I called to let him know and he told me the alignment machine was being replaced and I was headed out on vacation the next day. I brought the car back a week later and he had the SUV re-aligned and it worked good this time. This place has friendly service, fair prices and they stand by their work. I wish that the car would have been perfect upon first pick-up but they took care of it and made it right. I will be coming back for sure. Four stars! read more

Lets start off with the initial attitude. When I first contacted Jerl's Muffler & Brake they were pretty nice over the phone which is why I went with them. When I went in person the guy named Don was pretty rude to me, I asked him to diagnose my nissan 350z's exhaust noise problem and to install some exhaust heat shield tape, just to diagnose and install some tape was about $150, crazy yea. I get a call from them later that day saying the exhaust springs are making the noise (A $5 a piece part) would need to be tig welded which is about $250 (got quoted from them) he emphasized it needed to be done or it wouldn't go away. Never mentioned anything about getting different springs or any other kind of solution. I call him back later saying I found springs and will just want them installed, which Don said no problem, we got you covered and will install it for FREE, even though I paid $150 already. So the springs come in and then he wants me to pay an additional $62.80 for some bullsh*t labor on top of being extremely rude AGAIN, at this point i'm like whatever I don't care to argue with this rude guy. I get the car back and the work is done, But they ruined the bottom of my leather steering wheel which I just got, its all scratched up and rough. On top of that it was covered in grease and needed to be wiped down. In summation, this place isn't a very good place if you are young, they like to take advantage of you and charge you outrageous prices. I will never come back and this is for the shop, You need to fix my steering wheel that YOU guys damaged! read more

The owner was super cool and everyone there was friendly and works hard to do a good job. They didn't have the mufflers in stock that I wanted so the owner's wife personally went and picked them up from the distributor so they can get my car done that day. We went in for a diagnostic and they weren't able to come to a conclusion of what the problem was but they did gave us a few recommendations on what it could be but ultimately we have to take it in to the dealer. Do not go here! I took my car to have front and back brakes replaced they also said i needed new rotors so I had them replace those too. Just by chance the following week I had to go by my car dealership to have something looked at and they told me I needed new brakes and rotors I told them I just had them fixed the week prior. So I went back to jerl's pissed and they said they would fix everything. Well here I am at another brake shop and they just showed me that nothing was done. They told me that jerls has new owners now and the service has not been the same. Go anywhere but here they are crooks! The place I went to said back when Mr and Mrs Jerl owned the place they was great did business with integrity but the new owners are thief's! Do not go here. This is not a fake review. By the response of the owner that shows the lack of integrity this business offers and the lack of customer service they provide. The unprofessional response below is your proof... Attached are screenshots of the hostile message exchange the owner sent me. Please keep in mind I paid them somewhere between $500 and $600 for brakes and rotors and I went to two different places that confirmed that i still needed brakes. I am the person that is out not only the money I spent there but also the time I had to spend there. Then I'm out the time and money I had to spend at another business. It's extremely apparent she does not care about her customers. She wants a law suit???? Seriously what good caring business owner behaves this way. Called ahead at 9:30 A.M. Was told they could look at it shortly and complete muffler repair that day. Dropped off car and asked how long it would be and was told to wait since it wouldn't be that long. Waited an hour and they hadn't done anything yet, so I told them I would leave and come back, which was fine. No communication. Called back at 12:30 and nothing had been done yet. Came back at 1:00 and nothing had been done yet. It is now 1:30 and nothing has been done. Why did I waste 3 1/2 hours dropping off my car, waiting, taking a Uber back to my house for $10, taking another Uber back to the shop for another $10 and then sitting at the shop while they worked on everybody else's car? I could've just showed up at 1:30 and not wasted my entire Saturday morning because these people refuse to tell the truth. Just be honest with the customer up front. I was told at 10:30 to wait in the shop since it wouldn't be that long. ITS ONE-FREAKING-FORTY and I'm still here. Edit: at 1:45 they told me they put a temporary fix by welding a crack in my muffler but that I would still need it to be fixed in the near future. Luckily they did not charge me because they knew they messed up, but that does not change the fact that they wasted 4 hours of my time and I will have to dedicate another Saturday to have it done right - SOMEWHERE ELSE. I went to advanced muffler down the street. Needless to say....They did an awful job. Screwed up my whole vehicle. Welds were awful and the list goes on. I drove on down to jerl's after realizing it would be foolish to let the other guys attempt to fix their crap work with more crap work...so I figured im better off having jerl's fix it... Real good choice on my end...I drove in, talked with the owner who immediately understood my situation & he told me they would fix the other shops terrible work. To my pleasant surprise they did everything I had asked and more. Fixed all the awful welds, installed proper hooks & hangers for the exhaust, and repositioned the exhaust tips in the proper position. All at a very reasonable price..
