I had ruled out the upstream O2 sensor, catalytic converter (both new), MAP sensor, and fuel injectors. I explained all of this to Matt before bringing the car in. He assured me they could perform deeper diagnostics with their equipment. After dropping off the car, Matt called and told me they had "confirmed" exactly what I had already told them, and that the next step would be pulling spark plugs--for an additional fee. At that point, I decided to go elsewhere. What I don't understand is why I was still charged the full $85 diagnostic fee, plus a $4 hazardous materials fee and $3 shop supply fee. Plugging a car into a diagnostic scanner does not generate any hazardous waste--no fluids are drained, no chemicals are used, and no parts are replaced. There's nothing about a basic scan that would justify a hazardous materials charge. That kind of fee typically applies when disposing of things like oil, coolant, or other regulated waste, none of which occurred here. In the end, I paid $92, wasted time and gas, and learned nothing new. The most concerning part was Matt admitting he didn't even know spark plugs would need to be checked as part of further diagnosis.

The owner and technicians are really awesome and so professional. The pricing is very reasonable for the superb quality of service i received. At the advice of AM Auto, I am now currently back at the previous shop that did my alignment to hopefully get the issue addressed and fixed. Super grateful that the AM Auto guys helped me find out what was wrong and had me take video evidence to show the other place exactly what was wrong. They went above and beyond and i trust them to do a great job at all the services they offer.

I had a really disappointing experience at Valvoline Instant Oil Change…read more I went in for a routine oil change, and during the service they checked my tires and ended up breaking the valve stem on one of them. Instead of taking responsibility, they blamed it on my "new tires," which made no sense since there were no issues before I arrived. They only offered me a $35 discount, which didn't come close to covering the damage they caused. Because of this, I had to go out of my way to replace the tire, which cost me $80 plus additional time and inconvenience. What's even more frustrating is that THEY took a picture of the damage themselves, which I'll be uploading. So there's clear evidence of what happened. Overall, I feel like this situation was handled poorly. If your employees damage a customer's property, there should be accountability not excuses and partial discounts that don't fix the problem. I would not recommend this location based on my experience.

Here's a professional tip and how it's done: You're due for an oil change, you pour Liquid Moly Engine flush into your vehicle just outside of Calbest, let it idle per instructions, then get your Groupon cheapest oil change, drive the vehicle for a day or so to loosen more sludge and to rinse the solvents out of the engine. Then go to Valvoline in Pasadena across from Whole Foods and see what a top quality oil change looks like. Yes, Calbest takes longer and might be a waste of time to save ~$50 but I never feel guilty tossing out new oil & filter after just 50 miles or less when going there. The saving about pay for the engine flush. You're welcome.

Stranded and towed after the cable connection he made failed -- and no accountability taken…read more I contacted him through Yelp about a corroded negative battery cable on a 2018 Ford Flex. My written message said the cable needed replacing, not repairing, and asked for a quote on parts and labor. He quoted $200 flat rate. The cable was not replaced. A new end was crimped onto the existing damaged cable by hand, and the old cable was left bolted to the ground point alongside the new one. The car lost steering assist afterward and he came back out to correct it. On the next drive the connection he made failed, the car shut down while I was driving, and it had to be towed. He refunded $50 of the $200 and maintains his work was not responsible. He was polite and easy to reach throughout, and I'm sure there's work he does well. But based on my experience I'd recommend going elsewhere for electrical work.

I filed a formal complaint against this shop with the state agency, Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) and BAR ordered the rude and arrogant owner named David to refund me $900 for repairs and labor that they recommended but was deemed by BAR as unnecessary and totally unrelated to my car problem. The owner refused to refund me the $900 as recommended by BAR unless I remove the first 1-star review I did on this shop. Avoid bringing your car to this shop. Totally and blatantly dishonest!
