This is a follow up on my previous review. After S&W claimed they rebuilt my transmission along with the Perkins diesel for the amoun of $13,000.00, it turned out they only painted the transmission and told me they went through it!! I had it removed and actually rebuilt by a reputable company in Newport Beach. This reputable firm showed me all the bad parts that weren't replaced and steered the shaft that was causing the leak.They informed me that nothing was done to the transmission by S&W, as they claimed they had! Stay clear of Scott in my opinion he is just another used car salesman. I am so sorry because it used to be owned by a reputable honest man!! read more

I had used S&W for many years. I thought their work was good, UNTIL son in law SCOTT took over for Don. Carlos and Luis were kind, but I have never met a guy that was so rude and disrespectful than Scott. He swore and cursed at me yelling obsenities and telling me that you recreational boaters expect everything for nothing?? The sad thing was that Don and the other staff coward down when he went off on his rant cursing at mein their front office. I have a small business that has one boat. The original quote for the work needing to be done was $5000.00 I was told that they would "get right on it"?? That right away took over 2 months? And when work was done the Price was $10,000 Which was double without any notice or change orders notifying me of their changes? Scott had my engine apart in their shop and I would only call every week or two for an update. Scott got on the phone and cussed me out and told me if I did not like it you can come and pick up your F motor. What chance do you think I would have had getting all the parts that they took off my engine? He was the most disrespectful person running a business that I have ever scene. I will tell every person that I know not to use S&W due to Scotts disrespect and lack of communication about what the status of your jobis . Please save yourself a lot of headaches and find someone else to do your work. Good Luck read more

Absolute nightmare working with these people. I called upwards of 12 times last year in order to make an appointment for my annual service. This year the unfortunate pattern continued. After calling in for the 3rd or 4th time I lost it. I asked them for an explanation for the runaround I regularly receive. If you are so busy why don't you just put me down for the first available date you have? If the first available is in X number of months (or even years) why not just schedule me rather than placing customer in a situation where he feels compelled to call back over and over again? A straight answer was never provided. Perhaps they are busy, but this is not how a company should treat their customers. Contacted another Yanmar approved service facility, they scheduled me after one call. Alas, I have awoken from the nightmare, and it is a new day. read more

Scott and Chris are extremely knowledgeable with Perkins engines. I highly recommend them. Keep in mind they are under heavy demand because of the knowledge and quality of work they do so you will have to be patient. read more

S&W Diesel are excellent, I originally went to them a few years ago for some Perkins parts. This year Chris and Scott have been enormously helpful in the rebuild of my Perkins 4.108, apparently Chris builds 15 to 20 of these a year and from working together on mine, it's clear he knows all there is to know about these engines. read more

This is an awesome shop that has been in business a very long time. You can tell they take pride in their profession. Very clean and organized. Don was very patient and generous with explanations showing how a diesel's filters are changed and the fuel systems are air bled. I need to know this...there are no diesel mechanics on any of the Channel Islands when I plan to visit. Super nice people. read more

These folks are always fantastic. I'm wrapping up a two year program of catching up the maintenance and renewing two 40 year old Perkins 6.354MGTs and a Perkins 4.107, and the surrounding systems. Don and Scott (and Bob earlier) have been great about helping me to figure out how to prioritize the work to get it all done while keeping the boat in continuous service, getting all of the parts I need, and getting the advice I need to get it done. Chris came out and did a tune-up on all three engines, setting all of the valve clearances. Great work! They've always been happy to work cooperatively with this DIYer and Martin Ball, another local Perkins specialist, who has done some of the major work, including the cooling systems. Everyone has played on the same team, and let me play, without any turf wars, finger pointing, gaps in the middle, etc. read more
