The day before my trip from California to Pennsylvania, I called to confirm that I could drop off my live leopard gecko for overnight shipping. According to UPS policies, certain live animals, including non-venomous reptiles, can be shipped through approved services. I had already purchased the shipping label, had the proper packaging, and had documentation from the reptile shipping company confirming that the shipment was authorized. My main interaction was with the manager at this location. He repeatedly told me that the shipment could not be accepted and insisted it was a USPS shipment, not UPS. I explained multiple times that it was a UPS label and shipment, but he continued to tell me otherwise. The way the conversation was handled made me feel like I was being dismissed rather than listened to. I also called the other Salinas UPS Store location for a second opinion and was simply told they would not accept it. Because I was told the shipment would be refused, I had to contact the reptile shipping company directly. Thankfully, they were extremely helpful and arranged for someone to pick up my gecko from my home. Unfortunately, the pickup didn't occur until around 6:00 PM, after the cutoff time for overnight shipping, causing an unnecessary delay and additional stress right before my cross-country trip. Fortunately, the next day, while I was already in Pennsylvania, the shipment was picked up on time and my leopard gecko arrived healthy and safe. This entire situation could have been avoided if the staff were properly informed about approved live animal shipments through UPS. Prunedale Storage is a smaller facility compared to others you may find in surrounding areas, but…read morewhile living in Prunedale, I found the location to be very convenient, I was just 5 minutes away. The facility is clean and in great condition. Entry/exiting from the grounds required a gate code and the units were each protected by individual alarms which I found to be very secure and reassuring that my belongings were safe! While some of the bigger units were accessible from the outside, which you could easily drive right up to and unload, my smaller unit was accessible from inside a building. There was usually a flatbed dolly stored by the entrance door I used which was very handy and helped with moving several boxes at a time. The access hours (7 days a week, 7am-7pm) were very convenient and allowed a few extra access hours outside of their regular business hours. I was able to easily set up auto-payment through their website to ensure I was never late. I only went to the office a couple of times but my limited interactions with the staff was always pleasant. I was renting a 5x5 unit here but due to recently moving to Marina, I was hoping to upsize to a 5x10 unit. Unfortunately, there were none available at the time I inquired and there was a waiting list with a few people already on it. That being the case, I opted to find a new storage facility closer to where I live now. I had not done much research on storage prices prior to selecting Prunedale Storage (I went with them right away for the location) but based on what I have seen recently while looking for a new facility, I believe they are one of the more reasonably priced locations. Fortunately for me, I was able to find a larger unit elsewhere at a really great discounted price. My new facility was running a move-in promo which actually came out to be less than what I was paying here for my smaller unit (with insurance included). The downside is that other areas may not be as convenient or up to par with what I experienced with Prunedale Storage, but I hope for the best. I wish I didn't have to move from Prunedale Storage but was in need of the extra storage space. Overall, I had a positive experience here and anyone living in or near Prunedale, I would recommend this facility.
