For our last proper meal in Montreal, we decided to have breakfast at Régine Café. This was somewhat impromptu, as I did not read up on this place in preparation for my trip - instead, I did some quick research the night before and found that it consistently ranked as one of the best breakfast/brunch spots in the city. That being said, I booked a table and we made our way over. Régine is apparently a popular spot - indicated by the rope they had set up outside which suggested that a line can form. Since we booked a table, and it was a Monday morning, there was no line and we were seated right away. The restaurant is broken up into two main dining areas with large windows that let in a lot of light. The decor was tasteful but not my style - it definitely gave off that afternoon tea feel with upscale accents and an overly feminine aesthetic. It was nice but just not my taste. The menu has a really good variety of breakfast and lunch items - I was taken aback by how many creative dishes there were, not just standard breakfast items. I needed caffeine, so I started with a cappuccino which was really good, one of the better ones I've had. For my actual breakfast I went with the Chic Croissant; this was essentially a breakfast sandwich with pulled ham, egg, arugula, and an aioli. Due to the fragility of the croissant, I did not eat it as a sandwich - but despite that the dish was delicious. Everything tasted super fresh and all the flavors worked really well together. I don't think I ever had pulled ham before, but felt it was super creative and elevated the sandwich. We wanted to try some of their bakes, so we also got the cinnamon roll and the scone. We were given the option to have the cinnamon roll covered in frosting but we opted to have it plain. Even without the frosting, the roll was excellent - I usually find cinnamon rolls to be dry, but this was super m-o-i-s-t with a generous filling of raisins and cinnamon; it was one of the best I've had. The scone was lavender and white chocolate; I don't usually like lavender but this was pretty good and not overly heavy. It came with sides of macerated strawberries and mascarpone which I don't think were needed but nice to have. Service was great - everyone was warm, friendly, and efficient. Overall, Régine Café exceeded my expectations - the food was excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to return for another meal. Overall tasty brunch spot. They don't have a huge menu but they have a good mix of sweet and savory items that are a generous portion. There was a small line outside but the wait wasn't terrible. I did enjoy that they allow for you to take your time to eat and chat without feeling rushed. We didn't stay too long but there were many tables that seemed to be doing some long catching up. Arrived here about an hour after they open on a weekday and got seated right away with kids utensils and crayons all set up. Our waitstaff was so sweet and greeted us with aperitif juice shot. We ordered Chic Croissant and Oeuf beouf, along with kids meal. Both dishes were spectacular in all aspects: presentation was beautiful and clean, no nonsense. The Chic Croissant -- spinach béchamel sauce made the pulled ham irresistible and for someone who's not fond of ham like me, I ate it up like there's no tomorrow. The eggs on both dishes were ideaaaal. The cheek meat in the Oeuf Beouf was so tender and flavorful that even my picky kids asked for more. The kids meal that we got was the berries waffle with mascapone creme&choco sauce. Nice portion with fresh berries and the cream and chocolate on the side so you can limit the sugar. We ended the meal with hot chocolate and some bubble gum tea which our LO loved. All in all this is one of the brunch/breakfast places that I could not find any fault. Came to Regine cafe 30 minutes after they opened on a weekday and we were seated immediately. I got the beef and egg benedict and it was amazing! The beef cheek was so tender and flavourful. Poached eggs were cooked perfectly. Hollandaise sauce was so creamy and velvety. The mashed potatoes were a bit on the salty side but with the rest of the dish, was well balanced. Hubby found this place and it was voted top 100 places to eat in Montreal. We don't speak French, but all of the items are detailed in English, right under each one. It was definitely something different to try, and everything was good. We ordered the cafe lattes and the hot chocolate. Both delicious! I had the French toast and it was good. The bananas and cream on top were amazing. Everyone enjoyed the food. The presentation of every dish was a 5 of 5. The decor and vibe are pretty cool. It is definitely a cutesy brunch spot. We got lucky that when we got there, there wasn't a line, and we only waited about 20 mins. However, that line grew pretty quickly!! I don't think I would wait in the cold to eat at this place. I'm upset with myself for not having any photos of my meal because the picture along would make you want to come here. This was probably one of the best breakfasts I have had anywhere. First thing you should know about Regine is it is an adorable restaurant. Everything about the ambiance and environmental feel welcoming and warm. Service was, like basically every server and host/hostess we encountered, was superb and friendly. You should also know that while they do not take reservations most of the time, they do take reservations during the week so that is when we scheduled our visit. If you have reservations, ignore the line waiting. We got in line because we thought everyone was waiting to be helped but my wife, who likes people more than me, actually asked and found out that was the wait. Therefore, we walked in and sat immediately. As you know, service can be friendly and ambiance can be lovely, but you go there for the food. I got the Champi, which is rustic bread, cheese, poached eggs, sauteed mushrooms, with cream and sage and potatoes and greens. I also got a side of vegan sausage. My wife got their Brunch Vege - tofu scramble, vegan sausage, pistachio bread, and sweet potatoes. Both meals came with a red pepper coulis (sauce). This was one of those meals that was so difficult to savor. It was so delicious, I just wanted to shovel it in my mouth as quickly as possible. I forced myself to eat slowly just so I could enjoy every taste. I wish there was a Regine Cafe in every city we visited, though I am not sure if I would get brunch anywhere else. Wow! Best brunch ever. Even when the snow was coming down, Regine Cafe was packed. There was so many people waiting to be seated. Thankfully we had a reservation at 10:30 am. Service was amazing, everyone was very nice. Although we didn't speak French, there was English words right below the French and people communicated with us in English as well. Food was impeccable. Absolutely amazing paired with a mimosa that was I think pear and grapefruit? I really wanted to try the pastries but we were so full we didn't want to order more and not be able to take it to go because we were leaving Montreal soon. This place was amazing. We didn't have reservations Friday morning but thankfully we arrived right after they opened so we were able to score a table. They are strictly a breakfast/brunch spot so I would recommend coming early or booking a reservation. They do COVID check so I appreciated the safety check. The Champi won us all over. Poached egg were perfect, the rustic bread soaking up the sauce was wonderful, mushrooms were cooked perfectly. We also got a scotch egg on the side of the dish which was delicious- beef wrapped around a yolky egg and deep fried! I loved that it was a well balanced meal, there's greens, protein, carbs, and even fruit to enjoy at the end. We also had the Gaufre. Corn waffle, salmon, poached eggs, pickled onions, baby tomatoes. This was so so good. I would definitely come back and order these two dishes again, in addition to more. The matcha latte was more milk and super light matcha flavor where as the regular hot chocolate with 70% was very cute with a large marshmallow on top. What an AMAZING brunch spot. We were not sure what to expect since we were visiting from New York but we were blown away. The decor inside was so cute and antique which added to the unique vibe this place gave off and the service was exceptional, the staff was so sweet. We visited this brunch restaurant twice, our first time being at the Wellington location named Janine Café. On our second visit to Café Régine, we ordered the Grilled Cheese, the Champion and the Gros Jambon. For the beverages, we ordered some coffee, hot chocolate and a matcha latte. The Grilled Cheese was delicious. The complex flavors of the duck confit and the balsamic glaze balanced each other out well, elevating this simple diner dish to a memorable brunch item. The Gros Jambon is quite good as well. It is one of their more classic options with eggs, sausage and ham. The pork, duck and orange sausage was tasty, but we could not really taste the duck and the orange. We really liked the old-fashioned pulled ham. It tasted different from the regular ham they serve in other brunch establishments. The Champi was quite tasty as well. It's their version of an eggs benedict with mushrooms and a red pepper sauce. For three main plates and three drinks, our meal came up to 130$ with tips and tax included. Since they only take reservations on weekdays, make sure to get there early if you want a table on the weekend. We went to Café Janine for our first visit with a reservation on a weekday. For our second visit, we decided to try their Plateau location (Café Régine). We got there 30 minutes before opening (at 8h30) on a Saturday and we had to wait over an hour outside. If you are wondering which location to choose, we would suggest you try Café Janine. They seem to be the least busy of the two locations. Their menus are slightly different so check in advance which one looks more enticing to you. For example, their (delicious) Fried chicken and Waffles is only offered at Café Janine. I highly recommend coming here as early as possible if you plan on coming in the weekend. We came here on a Saturday morning at 9am and it was just the 3 of us. There was already a line to get in and the dining room was packed. By the time we left around 11:30 there was a line up out the door even around the corner The decor: this place is so cute so definately ask the server to take a photo of you and your table because it's Instagram worthy. All of the walls have something different to look at and gives you inspiration for your own home The food: the menu itself is very condensed but there is a section for lunch (served at a certain time), sides and desserts. They have sweet plates, savoury plates and even a vegan plate. There were so many things I wanted to eat and coundnt decide but I'm glad I went with the Champi since I wanted something savoury and this dish is definitely savoury and quenched my tastebuds. There were a ton of mushrooms and the toast was delicious with the gravy. The service: the service here is great. I like how the servers are attentive but they don't hover over you either. We had actually finished eating around 10:30 and ended up staying an extra hour before they finally asked us to leave since there was a huge line up. I'm actually surprised they let us stay for that much longer since there was a huge line when we had left. This place is out of the way in a residential neighborhood with nothing much going on. There's consistently a line outside but don't fret, it moves along pretty quickly. We were sat at a communal table but did not feel cramped. Before we even ordered, they started us with a juice shot. It was very refreshing. I ordered the pear and raspberry cocktail which was tart and delicious but way too thick. It felt more like a chunky smoothie than a juice. I ordered the grilled cheese with duck confit. I added a scotch egg on the side because how often can you order one? My girlfriend ordered the Champi which was basically the scotch egg, bread and mushrooms. The line was long but we got delicious tea so I can't complain. We didn't get the best spot, in fact we were placed in the corner, this place is best for bigger groups. I loved my pear raspberry smoothie and the Frangelico oat latte. The tofu scramble vegan brunch was honestly subpar compared with many others I've tried in Montreal, it needs more flavor love and perhaps some breakfast potatoes that aren't covered in duck fat, maybe ;) The staff was really nice but confused about what vegan means, I guess. We were visiting from NYC and was in Montreal for a few days during summer time. We were looking for a French brunch place and found Regine after researching online. It has many rave reviews. Tried to book online one day and found it was nearly impossible to reserve. Luckily I found out that half of the restaurants is reserved for walk-ins. I am so glad we went back the second day. There was a long line waiting for lunch upon arrival. Always a good sign! The location was a bit far from Montreal main, but still easy to get to. It was an amazing brunch experience. Food was fantastic and the atmosphere was chic. Our waitress was super friendly and tried her best to speak English and answered our questions. Can't sing enough praises for the food. My entire family of 5, very tough crowd to please, mind you, gave this place unequivocal thumbs up. The drinks were so yummy (we ordered the fresh fruit cocktails/came in small shot glasses). The sweet and salty food blends very well. The Cinnamon roll with caramel is out of this world! Every single dish, the flavors blend well. It passes the test of satisfying the toughest food critic: my wife! We would like to come back and definitely highly recommend this place in a heartbeat. Food here was exceptional, but be prepared to wait. I came here with my fiancé last Friday for brunch, at 11am. There was already a line. They have drinking water available outside, and occasionally someone would come out and offer bite size of their cinnamon buns while we waited. I thought that was super sweet and thoughtful. Although I do think they can be more efficient with seating people quicker. We waited about 45 mins, but for at least 15 mins there was an empty table for 2. Guess what, we ended up sitting there. They could've seated us 15 mins earlier. Not sure what the hold up was for. Aside from the unorganized seating, service was great. The staff was super attentive. I was treated to brunch here by a friend for my birthday. It was in the middle of the week in July, however, there was still a 10-20 minute lineup at the entrance. I have to admit, I was impressed by the decor and ambiance of Regine Cafe. As soon as I entered, all my senses were delighted: the aroma of baked goods and eggs benedict filled my nostrils; my eyes were drawn to the upscale and opulent adornments that decked out the restaurant, etc. The waiter was very friendly and courteous. She provided service with tact. The menu was also very creative: they offer imaginative drinks and breakfast/brunch items. I personally ordered a latte and a "croquette" (which is a salmon cake, with yogurt tartar sauce, poached egg, and greens). Both items were delectable. All in all, it was a great experience. One of my new favourite brunch spots! I've been meaning to try this place for ages but the lines on the weekend are very long (and for good reason!). Finally the opportunity came up to go to brunch on a Monday. Service was prompt and polite and the interior is so cozy. They have a great menu and it was difficult to decide which dish to pick. I went for the sandwich, which consisted of scrambled eggs, avocado, tomato and caramelized mushrooms and onions on a homemade brioche bun. It came with fruit and mashed potatoes. It was delicious! Our visit to Regine Cafe while on vacation in Montreal was an experience worth doing at least once. When we arrived at 11:15am on Saturday, there was a line around the corner of the block, but we decided to wait it out based on the reviews and pics from Yelp. Once we were admitted we were taken straight to our table which was ready and gave an excellent view of the interior. Immediately we recieved a small shot of Basil, Raspberry, and Strawberry juice, which was very refreshing. Our server (Liliane) immediately introduced herself and asked if we preferred English (which we appreciated as we don't speak very much French), the menus are in both languages too. We ordered a Latte and an Espresso which came quickly and were excellent. We ordered the Chic Croissant and the Gaufre & Canard, along with Crumpets and Bacon Jam. The Crumpets were okay, a bit dense and thick for my tastes. Should be a bit more bread-like, less like a biscuit and thinner. Bacon jam was flavorful but simple. I had the Gaufre & Canard. The duck confit and corn waffle combination was decadent with each part executed with skill. The waffle could have been slightly more crisp, which would help it stand up a little more under the other ingredients, but as a whole the dish was excellent. I made a reservation on Wednesday at 12pm, but our table is not yet ready despite we had made the reservation. The host was extremely apologetic and came to us frequently with the update of our table. He was so gracious and brought us water and their famous brioche while we wait. After when we got our table, the host brought us another treat, home made raspberry donuts (see pic). This is what I call service in which other high end establishment cannot compare. This place is 150% worth the wait! I was completely blown away by the service and the food! We arrived at 9:30 am on a sunny Saturday. There were already a good 20 people in front of us. The staff promptly took our names. They had a water jug outside with citrus mint water. A staff member even came out during the wait and gave us cinnamon bun tasters!
