I went with a group of friends; 5 of us total. We were able to complete the rooms, but not without a few hints. I've done a couple of other escape rooms and enjoyed this one the least. It was 4 mini rooms in one. It wasn't very intuitive, the hints were more of answers to get to the next step and 5 minutes in each room was more frustrating than fun. We ended up making the best of the moment, but I would recommend this room or go back. read more

We went her for a company team bonding activity and it was awesome. It was great to have 15 of us all solving the puzzles at the same time. Created some friendly competition. We did Mad Hatter today and Grace was our GM. I had done the Asylum one at one of the San Mateo locations and I have to say Mad Hatter was much better than Asylum. Although there were a decent amount of locks and crosswords, the theme was on point and consistent throughout. I have done 61 rooms now and this one falls solidly in the top third. I scheduled a team event for 28 people here. Every single person had a great time. That is a hard feat to have everyone happy with a team event. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating. I highly recommend this to anyone who is thinking of a team event for a large group. We did the "Escape from mad hatter" room and that was very challenging. We brought our family to experience the Ryptic Room escape. It was a fun and delightful experience. I have since recommended the room to several people. Alice in Wonderland is a great theme! It was my first experience in an escape/puzzle room and it was a lot of fun! The manager of the Mt View location, Ethan Giles was a terrific and enthusiastic host and was very attentive to the groups going through the rooms to give some vague hints but let the group solve the clues. We never felt frustrated. He has a flair for acting and his role as the MC made the experience especially fun because his joy was contagious. The puzzles were challenging but not impossible. I came here last weekend to do the mad hatter room with some friends I had visiting. A few of us had been to escape rooms before, so we kinda knew the drill! I felt like the puzzles here were hard (but not too hard) and our host was always making sure we were having a good time. I'll be back to try another room soon! read more

This was an excellent escape room. The puzzles were not the most difficult, but the physical mechanic of multiple rooms (I don't want to spoil the full mechanic) and the competition with another group, made for great fun. Within that context, the puzzles were pitched at just the right difficulty, maybe with one exception that was a little easy. The hosts added to a really positive experience. This was our first escape room, so nothing to compare it to, but really enjoyed it! The mad hatter told us this one is probably one of the easier ones in the area, so great for first timers. We'd agree. Our hosts were welcoming and fun. the puzzles required some creativity and trial and error, but were ultimately solvable in the time provided (after using a couple of the available hints to be sure we were on the right track). Only thing I wasn't impressed with was that some of the puzzles / props were clearly well used, so it felt a little run-down. But it didn't affect the game, and must mean this place is popular and well-used, so congrats to the owners / game masters on a great set-up! We would recommend it to others. read more

The Mad Hatter was a real disappointment compared to three other escape room experiences we have completed across the country. Helpful staff. Run-down decor (my wife was less than impressed with rest room). Interesting puzzles completely disrupted by requirement to rotate every 10 minutes among 4 rooms. We were also competing against two other teams, so we had to spend part of each turn resetting the room to not pass our progress on to the next team. We're glad this was not our first escape room experience. It would have soured us on the whole concept. It will certainly make us more picky on future experiences. read more

I have never done the Escape Room experience and was all set to do so (even though I was still a bit leery) with my son and husband right before my son went back to college. Unfortunately, I fell ill suddenly before it was time to go. I called to see what could be done about experiencing the Escape Room another time since my son was leaving the next day. I was fortunate enough to have an extremely positive experience with Alan Petterle, Customer Service Representative, at Ryptic Room Escape. A big 'shout out' goes to him with regards to how he handled the situation and the compassion he expressed towards me for not feeling well, knowing how badly I felt about having to cancel this new experience. Because of the how he treated this cancellation, it only made me want to try the Escape Room experience more, and I assured him when my son came back from college, the first thing we are going to do is head out to Ryptic Room Escape! Thank you Alan for not making me feel bad in canceling as well as for your kind, understanding nature. A real rarity in customer service these days, so for anyone who needs anything handled with care, I highly recommend you go straight to Alan for help! See you in May! read more

We came for my daughter's birthday party and had a great experience. We had 10 kids ages 11-13 and two adults. We divided into two groups. The puzzles were fun and challenging and the hosts gave the right number of hints so that we weren't totally stuck but still felt a sense of accomplishment at the end. The puzzles were complex enough that everyone had something to do. The hosts were great with the kids and really committed to making sure we had a great time. Highly recommended! read more

SPOILER ALERT: details about the puzzles below, don't read if you haven't been. tl;dr - wouldn't recommend unless a lot of broken stuff is fixed. This was my first escape room, and I felt like the story and puzzles were haphazardly thrown together and not very well thought out. There wasn't a natural flow and shuffling between 4 rooms just made things more confusing. Many of the important items in the room were broken. The syringe/bottles didn't work at all, most of the chests wouldn't open automatically (the staff member had to do it manually), the temperature-sensitive paint didn't change, the UV light was missing in the red room, the string on the rotating tables was broken, the locks on our chest were VERY worn and we couldn't read most of the numbers, when we finally did get our chest open there was no UV light in it (but another team's had 2 UV lights) and the key wouldn't come down after we played the correct notes. Overall it wasn't a great experience, and just led to frustration from my entire team because of all the things that were broken or missing. One of the only bright sides was that the staff member was very nice and apologetic about things being broken. But seriously, there were so many things broken that it is obvious that the owners don't even attempt to keep the place in good order. As is, would not recommend. If you fix all the broken stuff I'd reconsider. read more

This place ended being a fun team exercise (little cooperation, little competition...) and overall a really clever good time. Everything was within reach but had a trick to it, and the problems were varied enough that by the end everyone in the group got to contribute a little something to the success. Our family went as a group of 10 to the Mountain View location. It was by far the most family friendly escape room we've seen or heard about! The staff were very friendly (and helpful with clues too!). Our baby sitter had called off last minute, but the staff were so accommodating of our 6 year old and 2 year old into our games. Went here with a group of co-workers and we had a lot of fun! It's a slightly different setup than other escape rooms, but it adds to the "madness" of the setup. A few items were broken and didn't work correctly but it didn't detract from the experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the puzzles were definitely challenging.
