Not my favorite escape room. While it's always fun to try and solve puzzles with your teammates, I didn't really like the way the game was organized. We had a group of 9 people, all part of 1 team. There are 4 rooms in total to solve. They move you through each of the 4 rooms for 7.5 minutes and then it's open time for the last half hour so you can solve the rooms in which you didn't yet crack the code. The puzzles here are quite complicated and it would have been better if they allowed us to break ourselves up into mini groups to divide and conquer the different rooms. As the rooms themselves are small with only 1-2 puzzles really to solve, you end up having way too many cooks in the kitchen and only a couple of people actively working on cracking the code while the others loiter around. Also, not good for people who don't like being crammed into small spaces. I'm also used to the game master walking us through each of the puzzles at the end to explain how we should have solved it, which ours did not, even though I had requested her to. read more

The Mad Hatter game is definitely different than other escape rooms I've been to before. My experience was different than the game play that other people had described in their reviews though. We had a group of 8, and the game master kept us all together for the first half of the game. Then, we got the option to do whatever we want for the second half of the game. I do like this format, but I think having 3 ppl per room was probably enough to solve the puzzle. Maybe it's a personal preference, but this game required too much brain power from me LOL. I like finding and piecing together the puzzles with my hand, but the puzzle here requires logical thinking (the type that requires jotting down notes). read more

Came here for a team outing event! It's also my first time ever trying an escape room. This escape room was innovative and clever, each room with their own twists and turns of solving puzzles and riddles. It stayed true to the theme of being in Wonderland. Our party was split into 2 groups with 7 sec to spare for each room. It requires a lot of thinking and teamwork! All the clues for each room was pretty challenging, so using your hints will definitely help. Was super fun overall! read more

Went to this escape room recently with a group of 8. The room and theme with time limits was unique out of the escape rooms I've been to. However, this room has the same problem as many others in that if you have more than 4-5 people theres not enough things for everyone to be doing so some people inevitable stand around. The 2nd half of the room helps somewhat but the problem can still be present. Still, the puzzles were pretty good and fun with a classic puzzle game for each larger section. This is a 3/5 for me, but would probably be closer to 4-4.5 with a griup of 4 max. read more

One of the most fun I've had doing a room with strangers! Definitely need teams of 4 or more with at least half being experienced/good puzzle-solvers, if your goal is to escape in time. 6 is ideal. Medium to very difficult puzzles. Diverse puzzles, totally in-theme, and the chaos was just organized enough to be exhilarating. We escaped, but were short one bonus puzzle! So painful to be so close, yet so far away! MILD SPOILERS: This one is fast-paced as you only have 5 minutes to try and understand/solve a puzzle before you're moved to the next room (circulating between four rooms in three rounds). While production value wasn't perfect with some well worn items in the rooms, it was enough to get a sense of the Wonderland theme. And while the time in each room was short (5 minutes feels like 1 minute when you're solving puzzles!), each individual room had its own standalone puzzle. As a result, in each room you don't feel overwhelmed, which I found a refreshing change from some other rooms I've done in the area that try to do too much. All of the solutions were totally fair, just required fast thinking. It really helps to divide and conquer if you want to escape! Our game master was awesome as well and gave just the right types of hints without giving it away. Note to owner: please check the mushroom as there is writing all over the underside of it that looks like clues but were actually just previous teams cheating by taking notes, lol! read more

Of course, we have no recourse and my kid's celebration is ruined. She made home-made costumes for her friends for this themed party. We can't find any alternatives on the same date. Had a team out and did the mad hatter one! It was the first time my team has ever been to an escape the room and it was a wonderful experience! Kylie is amazing, she walked us through the way it worked and was on site if we need clues in person! Usually clue are give through mics, but the in person gave it a great touch! Attended a team event here, the hosts (Grace and Kylie) were very enthusiastic and accommodating as we had a group greater than 30, the puzzles were great and overall our experience was super fun ! The Mad Hatter helped us way too much. Technically you're only allowed to ask for three hints, but for a single hint he gave us multiple clues about the room. We escaped with nearly 15 minutes left and I'm not sure whether to feel accomplished or not. Once we finished escaping, we took a victory picture and sat around in the waiting room. The other teams could see us this entire time, by the way. It felt a little mean. For our slot, there were 4 different teams. We rotated rooms every 5 minutes. It is a stressfully short period of time, but resetting the rooms was very easy. 6 is the maximum size for a group. We had 5 and I think 4 would have been enough. The puzzles were unique and very doable. The lighting in the rooms made solving some color-dependent puzzles unnecessarily hard. I would recommend this room if you're competitive and enjoy escaping, because you probably will get out. read more

We came for a team building exercise for work and it was a little bit different than the other escape rooms I've been to, but the concepts are pretty much the same. When we arrived I was a little bit shocked at the quality of the place. It looked more like a warehouse since you can see the insulation hanging loosely from the ceiling and things didn't quite look "new". We had all four rooms to our group (not sure if this is the norm or not) and we were split into three teams and switched rooms after 15 mins or so. The "Mad Hatter" kept time and also gave us hints as needed. I'd say that the clues were pretty difficult to figure out and without the hints I think we would be stuck. In the end, all teams were able to figure out the clues but the "Mad Hatter" helped us wayyy too much. read more

Not worth it. Meh. Try a different company. Summary: This was our 12th escape room and it was just not to the caliber that we're accustomed to. The last time we were disappointed with a room it was the same company. I was very annoyed and irritated by the San Mateo Ryptic Room escape game and it had been so long since playing that we didn't realize that the Mountain View location was the same company. If you haven't played an escape room ever, don't try this one first. It's not very intelligently crafted. Not Linear: Most games are very linear and provide a direction via the clues (and some distractions too). This game does not provide the players the ability to successfully complete puzzles and then move on the the next puzzle. They've created rooms with 1 puzzle each. There is no deviation from the solution and there aren't multiple routes to get there. It's not as intellectually pleasing or stimulating as most of the other games we've played. Live Assistance: If you like strange drama kids in your personal space you'll like the assistance. They have LIVE people in your rooms with you giving you hints. Most games are digitally monitored and hints are provided as needed. We find that the live person in the room is distracting and not welcome. One positive: the format of the game was interesting. Without giving too much away, I will say that the game is divided into teams and it's a challenge. We won based on the fact that we made it a bit further than the other team--but, in no way did we escape. LAST POINT: It's NOT AN ESCAPE ROOM. There are no doors to open and there is nothing to escape. It's a puzzle room with no clear denouement. read more

I spent an exciting and fun afternoon with my colleagues at Ryptic Room Escape in Mountain View. It is a little tricky to find the location, once you enter the complex, look for signs to direct you to the entrance. The entrance/lobby is quite cramped and has limited storage space to keep bags and purses, so avoid bringing in huge items. We were a group of 11 and had the whole place to ourselves. The concept here is a little different from other escape rooms that I've done in the past. Here we were divided into two teams and had to compete to win. The puzzles are quite challenging, so make use of the hints you're given. It's a good idea to have teams of at least four people so you can solve things in parallel. Our game-master was friendly and helpful and ensured we all had a great time. If you've found other escape rooms easy, come here for a challenge! And if you've never done an escape room before, come here for the fun! read more

Challenging escape room but really fun. This one has four rooms of puzzles within the room and they all tie together at the end for the final solve. They made you move through the rooms every five minutes which made it all harder as you had to reset your thinking when you got back into the room for the next opportunity at that puzzle. Went here for my son's elementary fundraiser . Majority of the players were 5th graders with some parent chaperones. The kids in my group did quite well for the puzzles and games but some were just advanced for them . Everyone had s great time and the staff is nice and professional. Great fun! read more

Fantastic experience! I booked the event for my interns and Brenna was super helpful and accommodating with all the rescheduling and re-ticketing I had. Whatever you need, they'll do their best to help you out and get the best value from your experience. Kylie was our Game Master for the evening and she was also great and totally had the escape room on lock. The service was absolutely fantastic! The puzzles were pretty challenging and we really had to put our brains to the test. There are a variety of challenges that had a little something for everyone. It was also great to move from room to room that kept me from getting too claustrophobic being locked in one space for an hour. Another great part of this escape room is that it can accommodate groups up to 32, and I think the competition aspect can really get you going and adds a lot of fun to the experience. I've done a few other escape rooms and although it was interesting that the layout of this one was different, it just wasn't fun. The design of the room in general was a bit randomly put together and the game itself was extremely vague because at times we just stood for 5 minutes not knowing what to do. It felt like the game master was just helping us the entire way. I don't think it was worth the $30 we spent per person not to mention we were told to just leave when the game was over. This is a review of the Mad Hatter escape room. It was a lot of fun! You're not stuck in the same room all the time and the puzzles were of medium difficulty. I really liked the idea of challenging other teams to see who can finish first. The best part was the moderator, I think his name was Nathan, was always making sure we had a good time. He was very friendly and engaging and was more excited for us to finish than we were ourselves. I would definitely come back in the future if there are new puzzles to complete. read more

This escape room provided an hour of much needed immersion and escapism - you can forget about everything else for an hour and just be sucked into the game. The format of the game is unique with having to change rooms every 7 minutes and the puzzles are challenging but were achievable for our group of four (with the help of a few hints). The themeing is delightful and well done. It was all brought together by our wonderful Game Master Mike - from the moment we stepped in the door he was exuberant and his presence through the game only enhanced the experience. Beware, escapists, this room is very basic and not so well designed! - The setting is very poor: a few items that recall the Alice in Wonderland theme, but it all looks very empty otherwise. Nothing really puts you in the atmosphere. - There are 4 rooms to solve, each room has only a couple of items that can be worked on in parallel, so for teams of 6, there is a lot of watching others do. - You only have 5 minutes to solve each room before you *must* move to the next one, and you have 3 attempts in each room (hence a total of 15 minutes in each room)... However, if you've solved one room the first time you get there, you still have to go back twice and then wait for 5 minutes without anything to do!!! What the?! That's a lot of wasted time... That is just a terrible design! - The puzzles are OK, but then again, you have 2 puzzles in each room for 6 people... At least there's no key locks, phew! Overall, it looks like an old escape room from the early 2000, which could really use a refresh. With all the space, they could do at least 2, maybe 3 great escape rooms, but at the moment, it looks overall cheap, old and, sorry to say, is not very well designed :-/ read more

This was one of the worst escape room experiences I've had out of the roughly 20 I've played. The puzzles were lazily designed. There was an incredibly disjointing "gameplay" mechanic (can't get into more detail without ruining the game). It was also the absolute least-immersive experience I've ever had in an escape room. Escape the mad hatter was a lot of fun, and definitely a bit different from other escape rooms. I would preface, that there was not actually a room to escape form, rather a set of puzzles split into 4 different rooms that we had to solve. Difficulty: The escape rate was around 25% -- and all the puzzles were definitely doable given enough time. I'd say a team of 6 has a good chance of escaping if you've done a room or 2 before. Setup: this game was different than others in that it had a strong competitive component. we were split into two groups fo 6 players and competed against each other. We were continuously aware of our competing teams scores via a scoreboard and a clever lock hanging contraption on the wall. This was definitely unique. Finally the host was great. He helped us with hints for some of the more difficult puzzles without giving away the farm. Would definitely recommend for team building! read more

This is my 35th room and sadly my least favorite of them all. For once I did not feel the excitement or adrenaline rush of what an escape room should be but instead was literally taken for a loop. 1) Design - the most flawed aspect. 5 min in a tiny room with only one puzzle is not my idea of fun. Not only do you lose your train of thought and have to pause for the following 15 minutes until you get back, but once you solve a room you do nothing when you get back and can't stay in a room you need to solve. So this means you waste time doing nothing with no advantage for solving things earlier. Makes absolutely no sense. 2) Quality - this place looks like they asked a high school drama club to make it. Paint is low quality, props are cheaply made, things are drawn in with no finesse, and no care for design or aesthetic was taking into consideration at all. Furthermore, the puzzles were not made well so mistakes were easily made and there were no aha moments at all. None. 3) Service - There is no point of service at this location and checkins are done remotely so for some reason they couldn't find our reservations under one booking and were confused on why we were all split on their end when we clearly had confirmations shown that were all in the same group. The host had to text someone to confirm payments and was clearly confused. Also, hints to the rooms basically told us what to do so you could literally do nothing and just ask for a hint in the end and you would solve it in a minute. And since you only have 5 minutes that last try, you pretty much had to use your hints since you wouldn't be able to come back. No logic whatsoever. The vast space between what an escape room should be and what is a half hearted attempt is clearly apparent here and although people may enjoy what inherently is fun at its core, which is a group activity with puzzles, one who has tasted and seen true ER challenges has now even more appreciation for those in the upper echelon. Now that I've cycled through most in the Bay Area I've started to notice predictable patterns. This was my first escape room and I was impressed. I don't think the pictures do the place justice. It had minimal furnishing and isn't a room in which you are locked, but the puzzles were enjoyable. The host was nice and appropriately helpful without being overly generous. They have the operation divided into five puzzle rooms through which you rotate every five minutes. Once you finish one room completely, you bypass it in the rotation. We had a private group and were the only team in the building. Had there been other groups rotating at the same time, I would have enjoyed it less because of the distraction. We were told that only 30% of the teams make it through in the allotted hour. We did make it through but it took us 58 minutes. You really have to be thoughtful about how you approach the problems. One important tip is written on the front door: check in on Yelp or Facebook and receive an extra clue. Another tip: ask lots of questions before starting the game. read more

I helped organize a team event here, and it was awesome!!!! We did it soon after a "Colors" exercise and I thought the puzzles really showed off everyone's strengths in a really constructive, team-building sort of way. I've been reading the other reviews and maybe the place isn't super fancy looking (don't expect the Venetian type style here), but it is incredibly fun. It opens up people's thinking hats, creativity, and healthy competitive spirit. Resource allocation and ability to focus is really key. Maybe I'm a little slow (haha) but a lot of the clues we powered through and I didn't fully understand them until an hour or two after finishing. Overall, really really fun. We had a team event with two teams competing against each other and it was just hilarious to hype up the competitiveness, and that "mad hatters" were really easy going. If you want a haze-type clue culture, this isn't it. If you're looking for a fancy schmancy shin dig to kick back, this isn't it. What it is though, is really creative, team building fun. The puzzles are all kind of different, and in looking back the one designed by the mad hatters really was quite special (I won't say which one it is, you'll have to figure that one on your own!). Nice job guys! Extra bonus is that parking is really easy to find in the back, and there are lots of easy automated reminders to make the planning process incredibly easy and seamless! I do think maybe onnee potential improvement (tho not at all super high on my list) is that for the people that do indeed do this for instagram, create the right lighting for those ops. But totally a fringe benefit -- if you're looking for a fun time to spend with friends or people you'd like to get to know better, this is definitely a great way to do it! read more

Unfornatunely, we didn't have another team to compete against, but it was a good experience regardless. The concept of Ryptic is very unique, so I would recommend people who enjoy escape rooms to try it. However, they should invest more in their props and decorations to improve the vibe. It was cheaply designed. The Host, in my opinion, gave out too many hints. They should limit their amount of hints to 3-5. 6 players would be recommended for this escape room or 4 experienced players. The games are not linear, so you will be solving multiple puzzles at once. Manpower is needed. read more

All I'm gonna say is in one room there was a hair dryer that's was supposed to unveil letters to solve a riddle but wasn't even a big help. The designs are very poor DIY, but was still a fun experience with friends. Riddles were interesting and hard, but managed to escape anyways. Just went for my daughters birthday. Took a group of 12-13 year olds and they had a blast. We were split into 2 groups...it was different to compete not only against the clock, but against each other. Kylie was our game master and was awesome. She was very helpful in leading the kids through. One thing ...I'd like to mention is maybe adding on extra time for younger age groups? Possibly adding it as an option. Just a thought. Had an amazing time with my group of 15 here! I have played multiple room escape games in the Bay Area and this one has been the best so far. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. We had a last minute addition to the group and they let us add them onto the game without any trouble! Pros: 1) Lots of parking at the location!! I have played mostly the ones in SF and there is barely any parking by any of those escape rooms. This one had a massive parking lot and was within minutes of downtown mountain view. It was very convenient for us - we grabbed a bite in downtown and hopped over to the escape room in less than 10 mins. 2) Puzzles were challenging, creative, and unique. Most escape rooms involve objects you need to take apart or find throughout the room, but this game was setup very differently. Mostly logic based puzzles but they were all very enjoyable. Definitely higher on the difficulty level but worth your while! Cons: Nothing at all - LOVED IT! Highly recommend to everyone read more

This may not be a totally accurate review since it was my 1st time doing a escape room. Let me just say this, the staff was really friendly and very helpful, my review is not based on them, 5 star for them. There were 4 rooms that you have 5 minutes and rotate through the whole hour, it seemed really rushed. This is not really for beginners and more of intermediate/advanced in my opinion. The thing I notice is that you should the full 6 people in order to have the best chance you can get. We had 3 and it was really difficult. Between seeing like we were rushed and it was more like escape "rooms" I reviewed it this way. More like a 3.5 star for me. read more
