The service was quick and friendly but the food came too quickly to have been freshly prepared. It was very expensive considering the fact that the vegetables had clearly been frozen and thrown in the microwave. I had dinner at Ryan Christopher's last night; I was with my two sisters. It was the first time I was there. Our serves, Jean, was as sweet as you could get. Our food was good enough but one of my sister's said her chicken was tough, hard to cut and chew. Our waitress repeated this to the chef; his choice on handling this was to do nothing. This small family owned restaurant is a neighborhood gem. I have never ordered a single thing that wasn't delicious. The pesto served with the Italian bread is something that you will dream about. Owners take so much pride in their restaurant especially their homemade deserts. Always consistent, you won't walk away disappointed or hungry!! Ryan Christopher's earned my highest rating and then some! What a delightful venue from start to finish. The current owners are a wonderful husband and wife team (he's the superbly-talented chef and she's the hostess/manager and they named the restaurant after their grandson!), who purchased the restaurant, formerly a breakfast and lunch location, and turned it into a neighborhood dream over the last few years! We happened to arrive on a Wednesday eve for dinner when they offer a complimentary glass of Chardonnay or red wine with every entree. The wines offered were enjoyed by all at our table of 4. They offered fresh bread to be enjoyed with our wine and we then savored a delectable appetizer called the Jersey Tomato Napoleon. Having been raised in Philly for 37 years, until I made my way out West, I can tell you that Jersey tomatoes, especially the Jersey Beefsteak tomatoes, are so ruby red and tasty that they can be enjoyed as a meal unto themselves with just some salt and pepper. These were equally delicious. This appetizer consisted of breaded ripe Jersey tomatoes layered with smoked mozzarella, pesto & roasted peppers and drizzled with balsamic glaze. At $7.99, we could have stopped right there and each enjoyed this appetizer as a main dish and left very happy, thank you! But, the main entree was equally as delightful. We each shared the Shrimp Pomadura, which consisted of sauteed tiger shrimp with roasted garlic and several slices of garlic toast, Italian plum tomatoes and fresh basil tossed with penne pasta (perfectly cooked al dente mind you!) and parmesan. At $16.99, this entree was large enough to share and we enjoyed the sauce so much that the owners could have placed our plates back on the shelf without having to clean them any further! We were simply in culinary heaven by this point. However, when our superb waitress showed the day's selection of wonderfully prepared desserts, we had to share at least one. After much debate, which included the idea of getting one of each, we selected the peanut butter whipped cream pie selection with 4 forks. Was it delicious! A perfect end to a 100% delightful evening. Ryan Christopher's is a "find" and is the consummate treat for any occasion. Trust me, you'll only want to ask yourself how soon you can return! read more

This place is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO average - AT BEST. I go here with older relatives monthly. Sure - it's reasonable BUT not good. Pasta dishes are 80% pasta; sauces are bland; entrees have NO imagination. Once, I ordered an eggplant dish - the eggplant was literally cut, cooked and served in minutes. You do NOT prepare eggplant like this. No excuse - just "sorry". This place will do well because it's inexpensive & a BYOB in an area that has very little to offer. Go down the street to New Habana for quality and taste. read more

I had the pleasure of hosting my daughters wedding shower at Ryan Christophers. It was the best idea I ever had! We had a luncheon that included salad, guest choice of a crab cake sandwich, chicken parm with a side of pasta or a turkey waldorf panini. The guests all raved about the food. Not only the taste but the presentation was perfect! The waitresses were all so nice, they treated us like we were family. The atmosphere is very comfortable and inviting. We went in at 7 PM on a Saturday night; the tables outside were fairly filled; inside was a little dark and not that crowded; waitress/hostess asked us if we had a reservation and made it seem like it was a bit of an issue that we didn't. Got water, etc., took a bit longer than average for server to take our order; seemed to be some confusion figuring out where to take various plates when they reached the pass; also with groups outside may have stretched them a bit. Overall, pretty friendly place and chill, neighborhood atmosphere. I had a chicken parm dish and was offered to have it not-breaded which I thought was a nice option. Chicken filet itself was kind of skinny with lots of red pasta; a bit overpriced but no biggie. My wife had a scallop special that had lots of veggies; I tasted the scallops and not too convinced that they had just come in from the day boat. My wife prefers gluten free options and they seemed to be able to accommodate; wouldn't risk it if you have a major allergy, IMO. My daughter had a veggie pasta dish that was fine. Salad had pears and walnuts which was fine but the pears looked like they came from a can. Compared to my expectations the food was actually tastier than I expected and the overall experience was positive. Wouldn't run back there but also wouldn't object to going back occasionally or trying it for brunch. Also the name of the place gives you no idea that the dinner menu is primarily Italian food. read more

Had a fantastic dinner date at Ryan Christopher's last night. The muscles in pomodoro sauce were delicious some of the best I've ever eaten. The orange roughy special entree was also very good. Portions are decent and we were too stuffed to order their award winning desserts (next time). The service was the best part of the experience. Our waiter, definitely a high school student, had so much charm and was very professional. A great move is they spaced out the food so we had time to actually enjoy ourselves and didn't feel rushed one bit. We will definitely be back! read more

superb, priced right BYOB. Went here on a friday night for dinner, arrived at 7:30 and only waited 5 minutes to be seated. I went with the waiters suggestion for the entree and he was right! It was the most delicious salmon dish ever. The special lobster crab over capellini and equally the chicken with portabello and artichoke dishes that my guests had were as delicious. There gave nice portions but still had plenty of room for the fried cheesecake with ice cream which was over the top. Great wait service too. Fabulous dining experience , highly recommend. read more

We like, we like... Great brunch spot in wee little Narberth. My favorite part of the restaurant is just the general feel of it, casual, cozy, lively, yet slightly upscale, and I love that we can walk here on a Saturday morning if we feel like doing a fancy breakfast. There are outdoor tables too, for fair-weather days. Everything we've tried here has been quite good - not knock-your-socks-off-good, but mmm, that's-pretty-damn-tasty-good. The food is very average, not very refined, but if you like comfort food, big plates, american food chain (although this is not a chain, the food could be) then this is a good place for you. a little BYOB gem hidden in Narberth! celebrated recently with a party of 7 -- everything was delicious: whiskey onions on Texas rib eye, sesame salmon with spinach and wasabi potatoes, mussels, Tuscan soup, desserts and cappuccino - everything was perfect. Friday May 11 was such a beautiful evening that my husband and i decided to go somewhere with outdoor seating. We were both excited about coming here as we had been to the previous restaurant at this location and were very pleased. We thought we would be WOWed after reading the menu. What we found was a pleasant but inattentive server and bus boys that seemed to be clueless. The food was mediocre at best. I had the poached pear salad. The flavor was very good on the pears but for $8.50 I wanted more than 4 thin slices. it was supposed to have smoked Gouda. I think there was 6 pieces that appeared to be box shredded. I could not find the craisins or walnuts and the greens were starting to turn brown. My husband had the wedge salad. Again, over priced for the quality and amount. I had, as an entree, the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes. They had no flavor. The mashed potatoes had a lump of cheddar in the center and were overpowered by Old Bay seasoning. My husband had the Seafood Pescatore which he said was OK. I will say the desserts where beyond excellent. We were told they were homemade so KUDOS to the baker. We shared a Chocolate Mint Torte. My mouth waters thinking about it. The server, while she was pleasant, came over to take our order and then we did not see her again until she gave us our bill. We asked for flatware as our food was served with no implements to eat it with. Had we had the set ups at arrival we may have had a luke warm rather than cold meals. When we asked for red wine glasses it too over 20 minutes for a bus boy to provide and when we asked for water you would have thought we had three heads each. We will not be returning however, if the person who made the desserts opened a dessert eatery, we would frequent that establishment. read more

This is my 5 year old's favorite restaurant. They give her a little coloring book and crayons to take home every time we come (and not just because we're regulars...just a very child-friendly place). Her grown ups like the salmon with wasabi mashed potatoes and the turkey with gravy. For brunch, the banana's foster french toast is great for anyone with a sweet tooth. read more

Crowded, no parking, and Worst service ever - don't expect to even get looked at let alone waited on!! Wait staff walks right by you. Loretta was our waitress and she obviously doesn't want to work there. Took 20 minutes for our drink order; 10 more for an app order and when we were FINALLY finished with the meal, no one came by to clear the dishes or give us a bill. The only thing awesome about the meal was the dessert. It rocked! But, we can go anywhere for better food and way better service, so why would we go back? We wouldn't. read more

I've personally driven by this restaurant so many times in the past two years that my curiosity had been overdrawn. I found a posting from my neighbor down the hall who claimed to have had dinner there and I broke down and finally went. My experience was pleasing beyond my dreams. The restaurant is cute, quaint and extremely charming. Beyond the delight of the fun atmosphere I encountered, I was equally pleased to find that it was a family owned and operated establishment. Now here is the kicker, the food is extremely above par and although I am no critic...I do believe the food is of a 5 star quality for not only presentation but of exquisite taste as well. As I mentioned already this is a family run restaurant so you will receive nothing but the best service anyone can ask for. Ryan Christopher's is far from "meh." The menu is beyond fabulous, the chef is truly an artist. The outside just opened up which gets me and my family extremely excited. The chef is flexible with any changes I needed. The wait staff was amazing, and the hostess was warm and welcoming. I recommend both outside and inside seating to all friends and family. I have been going to this place since it was Cavistons; a good place for good comfort food. This morning I went for breakfast by myself. The place wasn't crowded. I took a seat at the counter, which I have been doing for years. The woman behind the counter (the owners daughter) gave me a look as if I had taken the last seat in the place. I then asked her if I could sit there. She replied with an abrupt yes. The rest of my meal was spent watching this woman freak out about all of the incoming reservations (isn't that a good thing?), speaking to her young staff unprofessionally, and running around frantic. The worst was when, in her haste, she tried to throw something out in the garbage and ended up hitting a customer sitting next to me. The food wasn't bad (eggs Benedict), but the show behind the counter ruined my Sunday breakfast out. read more

A friend of mine has been pushing me to try Ryan Christoper since I moved back to Narberth. He raves that the food is good and the prices reasonable. We finally went last night and found neither to be true. Everyone in my party of four felt compelled to stay away from the entrees which were priced in the high 20's and up. I had the worst shrimp bisque I have ever tasted - it was pasty thick and the pieces of shrimp had the texture of gnocchi. The hamburger managed to be practically raw though only 1/4" thick; a pear salad consisted of wilted greens and lots of onions with a gelatinous dressing. Veal parmesan was an unappetizing pile of greyish slabs atop a plate of penne. We were really glad we hadn't opted for the high priced items on the menu. On the positive side, the ambiance is neighborhood friendly, though I wouldn't go earlier than 8 pm unless you want to eat with children. I'm sorry this place isn't better as Narberth needs a casual restaurant with good food. BYOB is a plus, but our wine didn't make up for their food. read more

I actually really enjoy the food here. For that reason, my boyfriend and I are regulars. I have to say, though, that every time we go we have to overlook the uncomfortable environment in the restaurant. The staff are very nice to customers, but they constantly bicker with one another. There is one woman in particular, who appears to be "in charge", who treats the rest of the staff poorly. It makes us VERY uncomfortable. The younger wait staff seem to be doing their best (given that they appear to be high school students), but the older woman who seems to run the show is impatient and rude to them. It's difficult to relax and enjoy my breakfast when I just feel sorry for the "kids" who work there. read more

I used to love eating here. But now I have to follow a gluten free diet for health reasons. I got the gluten free penne pasta with my shrimp saute once before and it was great. I'm not much of a complainer, but this time the pasta was mush under the shrimp. When I told the chef/owner, he just said the gluten free pasta was "inconsistent". I said that was nonsense, as I cook it at home and it's just mushy when you leave it in the water too long. His attitude was terrible and unapologetic. I think they've gotten used to being full on a weekend night and so don't care whether you come back or not! read more

We really wanted to love our first experience here, but a few things made it less than memorable. It's a cute little place, very cozy, and we were seated in the window, which was very nice. Our waitress (Katie?) was energetic, personable, and attentive. She learned our names and used them throughout our visit, making us feel very welcome. Our first course was superb - my partner had clam chowder and I had a seasonal salad with fresh berries and goat cheese. The goat cheese was served in rounds, coated in a flavorful nutty mixture and lightly fried - very tasty. Nice bread with dipping oil also. So far, everything was great! For main courses we ordered dishes recommended by the server - a wild salmon topped with a delicious cranberry panko topping, served with sweet potato hash, and the chicken Chesapeake. Both were served with fresh green beans. The salmon was very good, and I was impressed that it was wild caught, when so many places in this area only serve farm-raised. The main reason for my three-star rating was the chicken. When my husband sliced into it and took the first bite, he discovered it was raw inside - gelatinous, pink, and cool, not thoroughly cooked. He felt nauseated after that, and the waitress quickly took the dish back. Needless to say, it took awhile before the dish was re-served, and I was nearly done with my meal by then. On the second try the chicken was very good. However, what also surprised us was that no manager, owner, or chef ever stopped by our table to apologize or check that everything was okay. Having been in the restaurant business ourselves, this is what we would have done, and expect from any quality establishment. The other aspect of the visit that was less than perfect was that no one ever seemed to notice when our water glasses were empty. This was all we were drinking, and we repeatedly had to flag someone down for drink refills. The young girl who was roaming the dining room with a water pitcher never seemed to look closely at our table. We will give this place another try because overall we did enjoy our experience, but at $80 (without alcohol) the standards should be pretty high. read more

After eating here for years with my family, sometimes more than once per week, I'd never come back. We never went for the food or the ambiance (not since it was Caviston's...wonderful memories). The food since Caviston's nearly all has a strange orange sauce applied. This sauce appears on eggs, me at, salads...is fattening, greasy and spicy, and nit in a good way. So we continued to come since we were comfortable there. We even forgave how they transport food in their trunk, and how they talk loudly over diners heads, or at diners if the owners are involved. But for some reason, they've become increasingly unhappy or burned out. The owners fight with each other and their customers. Suddenly, we realised that the food has not even been that fresh for at least 3 years and the decor is sad and depressing. When they bought this place it had just been beautifully redone. There are so many better choices. read more
