Do we get a complimentary dessert if it is one of our birthday? I mentioned it's our cousin's birthday. We ordered the lava cake which was off the menu. It's called chocolate explosion on the receipt. There was nothing "molten/fudgey" in the middle though. I tried to explain it to our waiter, and he said there's ganache in the middle. Ruth Chris doesn't hold back, you know exactly what to expect when you get here. Quality food, amazing service and a great atmosphere. The wine room looks amazing and all the decorations are fantastic. While the place was really busy you really couldn't hear anyone else conversations and it still remained elegant with your friends and family. They decorated the table for the event that was being celebrated and the staff was very attentive and made sure that their service didn't interrupt your privacy. The manager checked on all the tables and the staff knew their menu back and front. Everything being a la carte seems expensive but all their sides are for 2+. They also have the fixed price which includes a protein, appetizer, limited side selection and a dealers choice dessert. I normally let bad service go. But discriminating behavior doesn't fly with me. We travelled from Panama City Beach to eat dinner at Ruth's Chris in Destin, an hour and half drive. We requested to sit in the dining room. We had to sit for 10 minutes in the lobby to wait on the hostess. We were dressed appropriately for a fine dining restaurant. She said we could be seated if my girlfriend took her hat off. She has alopecia. And was wearing hair extensions held in place by a very nice baseball hat. And she was very rude about it and never looked at her only me. When you are prepared to spend $500 for dinner, you would expect decent behavior from the hostess. It's concerning to me that the hostess treats people this way. There were only 2 people in the dining room at 5:30 in the afternoon. I can only think of how many people going through chemo have been turned away by this restaurant and hostess. And by the way we are in our 60's. My wife and I went to Ruth Chris steakhouse for our anniversary last week. The steaks and sides were excellent! We asked about wine and the sommelier came over, recommended a wine which was great. After the meal we spoke to him again, asked about dessert wine, he recommended on, and we bought the bottle! We asked for the check and the wine manager brought it to us and explained that he couldn't charge us by the "bottle" and charged us "by the glass". In other words, we paid much more than we expected for our dessert wine. $139.00 for a small bottle of wine. No forewarning. Just, here you go! My friends didn't get their food. Service was slow. There was a bug in one persons food. My food tasted ok but this was my first and last experience with Ruth Chris. Food is/was amazing and service was fantastic. I had the sea bass and my husband had crab filled shrimp with family style garlic mash and lobster mac and cheese. I had the traditional lemon drop martini and my hubby had the old fashioned. Both fantastic. We did the chocolate chip pound cake to take home. Would 100% recommend. We had the wedge salad and it may be my favorite wedge salad alongside the Americano in Scottsdale Arizona. So good! My husband and I both had the petite filet mignon with mashed potatoes. Made reservations to celebrate hubby's birthday and had really high expectations for this visit especially after recently dining at a similar steakhouse locally. In reading reviews online I was prepared for a dated space but, what I was not anticipating was the visibility soiled chairs at vacant tables and remnants of food that had fallen on my chair as I prepared to sit. The server staff were attentive and overall excellent and they get 5/5. Kenau and Landon did their part in ensuring all items came in a timely manner. What was lack luster was the food - hubby did enjoy his steak, with even marbling, perfectly cooked and being he was the celebrant I was thrilled that went well. The petit filet was not up to par in any category, fries soggy, asparagus mediocre at best. The kids mac n cheese was very well seasoned however, below the melted cheese baked top was a cheese sauce that was way too runny. Ruth's Chris Destin is one of the best looking locations I have ever visited. The ambience is unmatched. The glass wine wall upon entrance in the main dining area is such a nice touch. The service was great! We were immediately greeted when we arrived. Then seated shortly after. Our server Jimma and her helper Benton were phenomenal. They were very attentive and detailed with their service. The food is where I was really shocked. Ruth's Chris is one my family's favorites because of the consistent quality. However, this is the first time the food has been subpar. The bread came out cold. My husband's steak was not seasoned well. The lobster Mac n cheese was dry and not creamy like it normally is at other locations. The appetizer, my lobster tail and the dessert were fine. We will give this location another try. The 3 stars is for the service which was exceptional. The ambiance is also lovely and the restaurant is very clean. The food was disappointing. The crab in the crab cakes was awful and I'm assuming it wasn't fresh but the kind you can buy in tubs. The lobster on the Mac and cheese was terrible as well. Being a local, I am a seafood snob but my husband isn't as discerning and he wouldn't eat it either. The Mac and cheese was watery and the pasta was undercooked. My first bite of ribeye was cold like it'd been in the fridge. The rest of the steak was rare, definitely not medium rare (I am not someone who doesn't know the difference). My husband's ribeye was sooo salty that it was hard to eat. I'm sure the restaurant would have made it right if we'd have sent back the steaks but I don't ever send back food. I expect everything on the menu to be edible and cooked well at this price point - if it's not, then I chalk it up to a bad night for the kitchen or just don't come back. I go to dinner to have fun, not to critique the staff. We came here for my birthday dinner, and Ruth Chris didn't disappoint! When my husband made the reservation, he had informed them about the special occasion. As soon as we were seated, they wished me happy birthday and began with their specials for the day. We ordered a bottle of the Silver Oak, which you can never go wrong with! Then we tried their Escargots. They were not the best I've had but were still good. For dinner, we had their filet with shrimp on top with a side of mashed potatoes and asparagus. Hubby ordered their special, which was filet with lobster. We both got their Caesar salads as well. Then we tried their bourbon and martinis as well. Everything was pretty good. Dining at Ruth Chris is an experience and you enjoy your time there. Every time we go as a couple, it turns out to be a 2 hour dinner but totally worth it! Service was excellent and they kept checking on us regularly. The place looks great from the inside. Lastly, I loved their cheesecake dessert with "happy birthday" on it as shown below in the photos. My family and I had a first-class dinner at Ruth'a in Destin. We arrived and were greeted by the valet parking attendant. He was genuinely kind and helpful. Even though we chose not to valet, he was nice enough to guide us to a parking spot. Once inside you can't help notice the beautiful space they've created. The ceilings are high and the decor is airy and soft. It's lovely. The employees at the host/hostess station weren't welcoming and didn't seem to be happy we were there. We gave them our reservation info and received a blank stare, then they appeared to go about their business for a couple of minutes while we just stood there. They eventually got some menus together and we were seated. Strange experience for Ruth's. Now more good stuff. Our table service was perfect. Our wait staff was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgeable. Our courses weren't rushed and we felt comfortable chatting and taking our time. Now for what we consumed. I started with a blueberry mojito, and it didn't disappoint. Oodles of fresh blueberries and so refreshing. My meal - Calamari to start - delicious! Lobster Mac - very rich, so tasty Brussels sprouts - yummy but I've had better Petite filet with blue cheese crust - perfectly cooked, melted in my mouth, amazing. My daughter had the chocolate cheesecake and I had a bite. It was over the top scrumptious. My only other complaint was that as we were leaving no one acknowledged us on our way out. It was as if we didn't exist. 4 people were at the host/hostess area and although they saw us, they couldn't be bothered with a goodbye, a thank you for visiting, or a please come back again. I just think that after spending $500 on a meal, someone should say something. My husband was a friend of Ruth's and he laughed about how heads would've rolled had she seen this. And I'm not removing a star because of the front desk inadequacies. This was my first time at a Ruth's Chris and I was impressed. Our server Kyle was amazing. He was very nice and attentive to us. We started with the caesar salad and it was nice. Plenty of dressing, just the way I like it. We ordered the petit filets, I added the blue cheese topper. It was delicious, but there was a hefty amount of the blue cheese-- so if you aren't a fan of the flavor I don't recommend it. It balanced with the rich flavor of the steak perfectly. I had the mashed potatoes. They were so creamy and buttery! Needed a pinch of pepper though. My mom had the sweet potatoes and oh my gosh! They were stunning. Very, very sweet though. The restaurant itself was very nice. Quiet and dim. We were sat at a booth which I was happy about because I saw another review saying the chairs weren't comfortable. Sadly for a steakhouse this specific one has definitely gone downhill in the last year apparently since Darden Hospitality took over. Last year we came and it was great, however came back this year to sub par food and service (seems more of a lack of training issue) Servers were very friendly and helpful but not trained in fine dining as one would expect paying the high prices of this steak house etc. Same situation with hostess staff. Food was another story. Portion sizes were extremely small. French onion soup and the salad were pathetic. Not to mention mashed potatoes were definitely from a bag and the gratin potatoes were a disgrace. (Chunked potatoes, which were probably frozen from a bag, heated with melted cheddar on top! Like really! ) Steaks were at least cooked appropriately. However for a $400 bill this experience definitely missed the mark. They could definitely use some staff training all round not to mention a kitchen staff who actually cared about the food that was served, but I guess being in a place like Destin you can serve barley mediocre food and get away with it because of the amount of tourists in the area. We will not be coming back and I strongly caution others depending on your palate and what you're willing to spend for subpar food. read more

Even helped me facilitate a surprise dinner payment from the daughters of one of the ladies I dined with. I will say I think this place is overpriced I mean my steak was OK, definitely not worth the $60 I paid for it. My Dad has grilled better. The sides are pricey but shareable. I feel like we could've ordered 1 of each side and my party of 10 could've enjoyed a tasting of everything. I tried the sprouts, yummy but standard tasting. The lobster Mac and cheese I thought was pretty bland and kind of watery, but good amount of lobster inside. The sweet potato casserole was a highlight for me. We'd visited this Ruth's Chris location a few times before. This time we spent about twice as much as last time for a reasonable meal for 2 with no alcohol. I'd like to have a glass or two of my favorite wine with dinner but I've NEVER been able to here because Ruth's Chris has NEVER offered a White Zin by the glass. The food alone brought me but that changed with this visit. Our salad starters, nothing special, were $14 and $16. Our 8oz filets were delicious, as always, but the current price is $114 per pound. They're good but they're not worth $114/lb. The $38 lobster mac & cheese was tasty but it didn't have much lobster. The $14 cheesecake was ludicrous. It was the size and shape of a frozen pot pie. The crust was hard, dry, and about 1/2" thick all the way around the mediocre filling. A $28 dessert unfit to be served in ANY restaurant. Overall, it was not a $300 meal.
