3 Piece Oxtails a la Carte
    Lovely B.

We've been searching for good Caribbean food in the area and had no idea this gem was here! The inside is stunning--modern yet cozy with a luxurious touch. The owner herself greeted us at the door with such warmth, letting us choose any seat, and her energy made the whole experience even better. She was welcoming, friendly, and kept us entertained the entire time. I ordered the oxtail with rice and beans plus sweet potato, along with a tamarind drink--and wow, everything was incredible! The oxtail was so tender it literally fell off the bone . My husband went with the jerk salmon, and let's just say he couldn't stop eating. He was practically licking the plate clean!

CLOSED but still taking orders and charging!

CLOSED!! I ordered take out online through their website, and my husband drove an hour to pickup to find this place is CLOSED DOWN. Empty! No note on the door explaining that they've permanently closed. Nothing. Website running as usual. I even got an automatic message asking me to review them. They charged $128 to my debit card. Now I'll have to report with my bank. What a disappointment and giant hassle.

We came here looking for some authentic Caribbean food and that is exactly what we found in this hidden gem. Ruthie was extremely gracious and welcoming: The ambience inside of rhe restaurant is clean, refined and luxurious. The service was amazing, Ruthie was such a gracious and inviting host. The food is amazing! I had the jerk salmon and my wife had the oxtails. Both dishes were 10/10. I love this place, I will definitely be back. If you like authentic carribean soul food and an amazing atmosphere then come to Ruthie's and get a little slice of heaven.

Found this restaurant on the Too good to go app and ahhhhh the food was soooo GOOD! I ordered 2 surprise boxes and received the one box with oxtail, plantains, red beans w/rice and one box with jerk chicken, red beans w/rice and Mac & cheese. The portions were MORE than worth the $ I paid and the owner Ruthie was sooo sweet! I now REALLY REALLY love this restaurant. Literally a hidden gem in Vallejo, and sooo worth the drive over the bridge.

I have been wanting to go sit inside this established for last couple years. We ordered dinner a couple years ago doing the pandemic and wasn't very impressed but I read other reviews and really wanted something more authentic so the other day my broke best friend and I had dinner. We got there it must have been right at their beginning of dinner time because it wasn't anybody in the restaurant and the lights weren't even on in the dining room however it's soon lit up the owner came in who obviously is Ruth and a lot of doordash and take out orders were being rotated out the door; we sat and had an order of the red snapper and my daughter had jerk chicken both dinners come with two sides one being the staple of red beans and rice and then you can pick the other one. I chose salad while my teenager chose mac and cheese. Once the interaction started the service was done entirely by Ruth who's very pleasant seems very warm and accommodating. Food did not take very long to come out especially for the amount of food the really healthy portioned dinner. It was enough food for us to both take food home and we had good flavors. I would definitely go back again although I had to kind of fight Ruth over some hot sauce because that good hot sauce be giving life.

The napkin, which they did not provide, is tacky. Just like this first and last experience.

Personally, I will never patronize this establishment again. And I'd never recommend it. The food was EXTREMELY underwhelming and lacked that fire, spice, life, Caribbean food is known for. I ordered Fry Bread and was given Fried Plantains. I HATE PLANTAINS. How does this place not have flour, cornmeal, baking soda, sugar, salt, water? These are pantry staples... in every kitchen. In fact, this place is vomit worthy. I'd give them a minus 0, if I could. And please note, I was trying to be kind in this review. There was too much emotion to put on paper. 0/5 (worst) 1 - 5 (best)

I was a bit nervous but I finally used the Too Good to Go app and have been looking at this place for a minute. They didn't disappoint at all! I got the surprise box and the food was great, well seasoned, hot and fresh etc. Staff was welcoming and sweet as well when I came inside. I definitely recommend.

I love Jamaican food and found this place, which is a quick drive from home. Ordered some takeout and sat at the bar until the food was done. The hostess (wish I got her name), was really nice. Another customer came in and bought some sea moss, which she had made and already packaged. I started asking questions about it, preparation, etc and she was very knowledgeable. I bought a small batch and really liked it especially since it's healthy for you. Definitely coming back for more sea moss, but the ox tail I ordered was really good. Very tender and the whole meal was full of flavor.

Food excellent as always. I am hooked on their jerk chicken wings. The curry chicken is definitely new and if you have extra bread around the house, please soak up curry sauce. Ambiance is gorgeous and friendly service! My go to spot!

I felt like doing some Caribbean cuisine. I'm at Ruthies Caribbean Kitchen in Vallejo tonight. When I arrived, it was empty, and it only picked-up after I got my meal. It feels like a cozy Café I would find on the road somewhere at a Beach. I had me Jerk Chicken, Red Beans & Rice, and Fried Plantains. The Red Beans & Rice, tasted like Red Beans & Rice. I had worse, and I had better. The Jerk Chicken had some heat to it, I liked how I can taste the Scotch bonnet pepper. Bonnet pepper is very distinct. The Gravy was better than expected. The Gravy is slightly different than other Brown Stew Chicken that I had out there in a good way, it was savory but not overpowering. It got better with every bite, when I mixed in the Gravy with the Red Beans & Rice. That was the move. And the best part, was the perfectly Fried Plantains. It felt like it was cooked homemade. I asked for a large cup of Tamarind Mango Pineapple, but I don't know if it was the language barrier or not, because it wasn't in stock and a new batch had to be made, so I got Guava juice instead which was OK. I used to be neighbors with some Jamaican people out there a very long time ago, and I haven't seen any Jamaicans since I came back from the East Coast. It was good to see some Jamaican people out there that happen to be in the building when I was there. I was thinking this was going to be a 3.6-4.1 stars, this could be a 4.3 stars on a good day, but I give this 4.2 stars.

Being a pescatarian, I am sadly not able to eat at most soul food places unless they have seafood options, which many don't. Urban Fusions even has vegan collard greens on their menu! I was expecting the place to have the traditional greasy spoon diner feel that a lot of soul food places have. Instead this place had more of a artsy urban feel to it, which I loved. My son got the fried okra and the southern 3-way plate with the fried chicken, fish, jumbo shrimp and fries, with Mac n cheese for the side. He loved it and of course couldn't finish it all, so he saved it for later. His friend had the sticky ribs and fries, which he said were amazing. I ordered the fried basa with vegan collard greens and of course fried okra, which my son and I order any time we see it on a menu. The fish was PERFECTION. It was seasoned just right and fried to the point of being crunchy but not at all greasy. The okra was flavorful and not too salty the way it can be at some places. I tasted the mac and cheese and really liked that it was seasoned with a touch of garlic. Yum. Our server Lyla was sweet and attentive. Be sure to tip her well when you come to this place. None of us could finish all of our food and had to take the remainder to go. We all left feeling super full and happy. All three of us slept like logs. Urban Fusions is a must-return spot for sure!

I initially didn't expect much since every Haitian restaurant on the west coast seems to flop pretty bad except for the one in Moreno Valley, CA. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Things to consider about Haitian food. Oxtails and anything jerked (jerk chicken) are NOT typical Haitian dishes. Leave those to the Jamaicans that's their specialty. I would NOT order that at a Haitian restaurant. If you order these we know you don't know anything about that culture. Now that we got this out of way. I've ordered the legume (stewed veg with no meat), fritay griot (fried pork shoulder) akra, fried green plantain, kremas, pikliz to go. Pros: Located in a vibrant part of Oakland this restaurant is very cleaned and spacious with arts displayed throughout showcasing the Haitian culture and spirt. There's even a huge outdoor seating. The service was fast and I am not talking by islands standards. Before i can blink was food was in front of me. To my surprise, I really enjoyed my food and ordered some to go. I thought to myself maybe I was really hungry hence the reason it tasted so good. So I went back a 2nd time the very next day, you could tell the food is made fresh because they don't have the same thing on the menu. Oh boy was I surprised again about how delicious the food was. Subsequently, I am giving this restaurant a 5 Cons: There's only street parkings which can be hard to find and it's not the restaurant's fault. I agree with some of the comments that the greeting might need some improvement. Then again this is a family owned business, where their young son is in charge of greeting & seating folks down. He may not have an inviting smile but he was not rude per se. Overall: I have travelled to over 65 countries there are certain things you can't except from people. Not every business is ran based on American expectations. This is a small family owned business with delicious & authentic Haitian dishes. What people want to know is "does the food taste good?" Yes or no. Also, while I was eating there I saw many Ubereats and/or Doordash couriers coming in and out, that might be an option for those who don't want to dine in. I would absolutely go back whenever I am in the Bay area. Lovely family and I wish them the best. I hope they open a restaurant here in Los Angeles.

I suggested Caribbean food since I just had Peruvian food the weekend before. You should look for my review of Límón in downtown Mountain View. Since there's construction going on in the area, I didn't realize there was a parking lot adjacent to the entrance of the restaurant! Lol I circled back around and parked in the underground parking. It smelled really bad as I walked up, but I guess whatever they were cooking in the City Hall is what made the parking garage smell? It didn't matter because from the street I could hear the joyous Caribbean beats and I really like that music. It just makes you feel happy and want to dance even if you don't know how!! Apparently, just before me was a giant catering order so the four employees were quickly getting things set up and chefs were moving back-and-forth and saran wrapping and packing up this big order. I asked if I could do takeout and they handed me a menu! I ended up ordering two different dishes. I ordered: *chicken jerk- dark meat * 2- Jamaican patty; chicken * vegetable stirfry * side; mac & cheese and coleslaw * rum cake * pineapple upside down cake My aunt had never had Jamaican jerk before and she loved the spice of the chicken! My three-year-old niece, however thought it was too spicy, but she really liked the plantains! We picked off the chicken skin for her and she ate the meat underneath. We ate the spiced Jamaican jerk!! Lol my niece also loved the macaroni and cheese, and the vegetables! My aunt loved the coleslaw as did I since it had a delicious crunch and the vegetable had a good spice mixture and I was really surprised with how filling the vegetables were since I got that as my dish! I wasn't hungry for any meat, but I ate a Jamaican patty, which is more like an empanada and that thing was freaking delicious!! My three-year-old niece also loved the empanada, Jamaican patty! Both of the cakes we got were delicious and had so much flavor!! I actually didn't eat my cake till later that afternoon with a cup of coffee, but goodness that rum cake was just as tasty as my grandma used to make but a different style. I can't wait to go back there again and I'd love to eat at the actual restaurant since there's definitely a vibe! I like the idea of their different cocktails and they had a cute little sports bar area so I wouldn't mind watching a game there! Can't wait to go back!!
