Delicious and homey Guatemalan food! The portion sizes are pretty large and filling. The garanchas, churrasco, and the hilachas were our favorite things that we tried. Everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection. Our server Mike has impeccable service. He was very generous and explained what all the dishes were to us. Inside, the place was clean with lots of places to sit. Overall, would definitely come again!

Such an amazing experience. Every time I come their customer service is so warm and welcoming. Their food is so tasteful and delicious. I always look forward to coming to their restaurant. You have to definitely give it a try.

Their meat was tender and juicy and the meals are quite nutrient dense and filling. I would come here again by myself or with friends and/or family

Food was great! Family owned business and service was great also. Owner and son made you feel welcomed. Definitely will be back for more.

Walked in: cramped, no polish, just shelves of cola bottles and cookies from back home, kitchen haze thick enough to taste. Three pupusas landed--soft, cheesy, edges crisp--and that smoky smell rode home with me. Nothing fancy, kinda rough around the edges, but damn if it doesn't feel like a quick dip into Latin America. Worth the detour if you're craving real over pretty. For payment, make sure you have cash or zelle. They won't take any other method.

It's a little hole in the wall place with only street parking. On Tennessee in the not so nice area. I was able to park right in front of the place, so didn't have to walk around too much. Walked in as someone else was walking out. It smells heavenly! No frills, old faded menus on the wall, 2 ladies behind the counter cooking. Not much room to wait. Pupusas are $4 each but they told me they were running a special 3 for $10 so I got 6 for $20. Carne asada with cheese. Yum! Was told 30 minutes and it started to get smoky in there, lol so then waited in my car. Please note, It is cash only, take out only. Before I went back in, the lady who took my order came out to me, (it was more like 10 min) with them all packed in a foil pan. And the pickled cabbage mix and sauce packed separately. It stayed hot and fresh. They are thick and full of meat and cheese. And so delicious! It was wayyyyy too much food. I could have ordered 3 for us. One pupusa filled me up ! We had leftovers that our sons came over and enjoyed. If you live any where near, and love pupusas and authentic Salvadoran food- GO!

I honestly don't know why there weren't lines out the door of people waiting on a table…read more My husband and I have been here twice, and both visits were outstanding. Let's start with the salsa. I don't know what they put in their salsa. I know the main ingredients of salsa, but their salsa? Oh my gosh. It is delicious. It's my favorite salsa. I'm sitting here stuffed from dinner, and I still want some right now. My husband loves the chorizo burrito. He's ordered it both times we've visited. It's this big, gigantic burrito that looks impossible to eat, but somehow he manages. On our most recent visit, we ordered the chicken flautas as an appetizer. First of all, the flautas themselves were delicious. The seasoning on the chicken had flavors that felt familiar, but with a twist of something I've never had before. And the smokiness of the sauce on the flautas? Delicious. Just absolutely delicious. I also ordered the salmon, which was perfectly seasoned. I believe it normally comes with vegetables, but mine came with a salad instead. Whatever the reason, that salad was outstanding. It was so fresh and flavorful. There may have been apple, pear, or jicama in it... I honestly couldn't tell... but every bite was delicious. The atmosphere is fantastic, too. Elena took care of us on both visits. She makes it feel like you're visiting somebody's home. She is absolutely warm and hilarious at the same time. What really surprised me was that she remembered the beverage my husband ordered on our previous visit. I was like, "How long ago was that? Three months ago?" Another young lady came around and asked how we were doing as well. Very hospitable. Again, I really can't believe there weren't lines out the door. I mean, it's a cool crowd, don't get me wrong. But y'all are asleep. Don't sleep on this place. Y'all need to get there. I'm telling you... just wait.

I came across La Esperanza while looking up the phone number for my usual spot in Vallejo and decided to give them a try. They're located in American Canyon in the Lola's Market plaza, next to the pho restaurant. We arrived around 4 PM on a weekday, and there were only about three occupied tables. Although staff saw us come in, no one greeted us. After waiting a few minutes, I finally asked if we could sit anywhere. We were seated near the door and received menus shortly afterward. A gentleman came over to take our order and asked if we wanted water. We waited about 20 minutes, possibly longer, for our food. Unfortunately, our water never arrived, and our order came out incorrectly. We ordered six pupusas but only received four. Nobody explained which pupusas were which, so we ended up accidentally eating each other's food. As for the food itself, I wasn't impressed. The pupusas were much too soft and mushy for my taste. The beans were chunky, which is something I've never experienced before in a pupusa. Having eaten pupusas from countless places over the years, I know there are much better options out there. Overall, I won't be returning. The prices are high for what you receive, and the poor service made the experience even more disappointing. Eating out and supporting local businesses is already expensive, and when both the food and service fall short, it's hard to justify coming back.
