I don't usually shop at La Tapita, but I went with my mom who wanted to pick up some tea. While we were there, I decided to buy some fruit and a six-pack of IPA. As we approached the register, my mom asked the cashier if she could help us reach the tea since we're both on the shorter side. The cashier agreed to help as soon as she finished scanning my items, so my mom walked away to wait. While ringing up my items, the cashier told me the six-pack alone was $26, which seemed a bit steep to me. So I was like that's crazy void it. After I paid, I noticed she still hadn't gone to assist my mom, even though we had both asked while in line. Luckily, a gentleman from the nearby check-cashing area stepped in and helped her reach the tea. By the time my mom returned, a man (possibly the owner he sure acted like he was) came up to the cashier, seemingly assuming he knew what was going on... His attitude was incredibly rude and dismissive, acting like we were an inconvenience. Honestly, with customer service like that, I wanted to leave all the teas and let him put them back. But my mom is a person with more patience than me so she purchased them. In the end, I don't ever plan on going back to La Tapita. The high prices and poor service just don't make it worth it--especially when I could find the same products cheaper and with less hassle elsewhere. read more

When I'm in the north bay I like stopping here for their BBQ ribs and chicken. The wait time is typically around 30 minutes. They have a complete meal option which comes with beans and rice. My favorite burrito truck was still closed and I decided to try this place out. My niece told me that this store sells amazing super burritos in the back. I promised my kids and I didn't want to disappoint them. When I went to the back 2 lady employees were talking. I tried getting there attention but I faild to do so. The back was so crowded. Finally one of the ladies, the young tall brunette with curly hair, looked straight at me and I thought she would stop talking and take my order.. But instead she kept talking. She took my order and was very nice. But even though I bought my fam super burritos I promised I still managed to disappoint them. My whole family bit into out burritos and was soooooo disappointed. I'm very Upset over the way I was treated at this Market the owners are nice people but the employees are terrible for 20 Yrs my family and I have used the services there I was told by a Employee that my Checks were not authentic when I stated that I knew the owners and they have been cashing them for yrs he told me they were fake. My review is for the meat market and the super friendly employee at the checkstand. We came for the marinated Carne Asada ($5.00 pound) and we decided to try the Marinated Pollo (aka Chicken for us Gringos) which was $1.99 a pound. Since my daughter has turned us onto the Carne Asada before, we knew we would love it. But the Chicken? OMG!!!!!! I grilled it first and then finished it in the oven. It was so yummy! It was crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. It's funny because they cut the meat (it's the leg quarter with the thigh attached) in half lengthwise. Whats so cool about that you ask. It makes the piece one uniform size so they cook more quickly! You gotta try it. Searching for an authentic milanesa torta, I was recommended to try La Tapatia in Vallejo. La Tapatia is a small Mexican mercado with a Mexican fast food counter in the back. I ordered the milanesa torta with no onions or tomatoes. After waiting about 20 minutes, I got my torta but it had everything on it. I don't mind picking stuff out of my food but there's a reason why you order without certain ingredients. I hate when my order is messed up. They offered to remake my sandwich but when I got it back, it still had bits of onions in it...again! Whatever, I picked them off and tried to enjoy it. Seating area was simple and functional. No real atmosphere except that I felt like I was in Mexico. Bathroom was kind of messy with towels, but not dirty. When I am in town this is my spot to cash a check. Yes they do check cashing and money orders as well. The meat market has tons of options. Pre-marinated chicken or Asada which when you are short on time can come in really handy to whip up a mean dinner. I've also shopped here for groceries before but would not be my number one choice as the prices aren't very competitive. I will rate this place in relation to why I go here and not for all the other stuff. This is where we buy our posole making supplies. And by we I mean my husband because he makes it, not me. He gets pork butt and pork shoulder here plus all the fixins... hominy, lime, cilantro, cabbage, 3 different types of dried chilis and chicken stock.
