I want to start by saying the 4 stars are for the food. That's it. If we're considering atmosphere, location, customer service... This would be a 3 star review at best. Let me explain: The Good Stuff: We ordered 4 revuelta pupusas. These babies are stuffed with cheese, beans, and pork (ground chicharrones typically). So texturally, they're pretty one dimensional. However, flavor wise, they're delicious when eaten fresh. The best parts are when the cheese oozes out a little bit and gets that crisp on the griddle. SO good! Top them with the curtido, which is a pickled slaw, and some salsa. Their salsa isn't spicy at all.. so if you can't stand the heat, go to this kitchen. LOL We also tried the empanadas, tamale de elote (sweet corn), horchata and a plantain plate which came with fried plantains, crema, and refried beans. The tamal was soo good! The masa was light, fluffy, and perfectly sweet. This was served with crema and a small block of salty cheese (cotjia? not sure). The empanadas were sweet. They're basically mashed plantains, stuffed with a light, sweet custard, which is then fried and rolled in sugar. This wasn't bad but I could have done without it since we already had the side dish of plantains to work with. Plantains with crema and refried beans are such a comfort food to me. It feels grounding, which is kind of weird considering I didn't grow up with this type of dish (or anything similar) at all, but it just hits all the flavor notes! Sweet, creamy, salty, just yum! Horchata was delicious. Not chalky, perfectly creamy, cinnamony, and sweet! Get this to wash your meal down with. The Not So Great Stuff: This location can only be entered from one side of the street. If you don't come from the same side of the street the restaurant is located on, you won't be able to cut across from the other side. Parking is small, but this place isn't really poppin like that, so most likely this won't be an issue. Wait time is looooooooong so if you're calling in an order for pick up, give yourself a good amount of time. If you're dining in, prepare for at least 20-30 min. I feel like this is fairly typical, but it can feel long if there isn't even anyone else in the restaurant. It looked like they had a lot of to go orders and door dash orders though, so that might set the kitchen back a bit. When we came in, there were two really young girls working the front. They weren't really friendly, and they definitely gave off the "I have to work here" vibe. A family business is something you should feel even more invested in, because it's yours.. right? Anyways.. we asked a few questions because their menu is pretty small and not self explanatory. When we asked about a few items on the menu, the girls were not able to provide descriptive answers at all. There was zero enthusiasm on their end.. but that's okay. I'm here for the food anyways. After we ordered, we took a seat and watched Final Destination on their TV. The atmosphere was sooooo lacking. Can I just say I'm not in the mood to watch full on sex scenes or people dying and their guts flying while I'm eating? Maybe that's just me. When we finally got our food, they forgot to bring our horchatas, the curtido, and the salsa. I had to ask for the curtido and salsa twice. Their salsa is different from any salsa I've ever had. It tastes kind of like tomato sauce, without any herbs. It was pretty bland. The curtido was served in a jar and meant to be self served with tongs. I do wonder about the cleanliness of this but I like that I was able to eat as much of it as I wanted. So do with that, what you will. If you're worried about hygiene and Covid safety practices, this is probably not the place for you. The salsa was served in a syrup style pitcher. It was honestly kind of hard to open and pour, but I might just be uncoordinated lol All in all, I will always be back for the food. This is my first time dining in, and I'm not really in a hurry to be back to do it again. read more

I've been to this restaurant more than a handful of times. The taste of their food is very delicious. It's a small restaurant off a busy street. It's very clean and employees are very nice. Its kid friendly and they do not sell alcohol. It's a Salvadorian restaurant and they also sell Mexican food. I normally get pupusas. Today I had a pupusa of Jalapeño with cheese, a corn tamale and fried yucca. These are my preferred dishes on their menu. The food is very authentic and delicious. I recommend you try this restaurant when in Vallejo, you will not be disappointed. read more

Unfortunately, I have to leave a one start review. Placed an order and was told about 15-20 mins until food would be done. No issues with that wait time at all. The issue is that every time we order from Riconcito Salvadoreño, it is always emphasized that they are in a rush (on the phone) to hurry up and close the restaurant. When we arrive (three separate occasions) they have the chairs up and are mopping. The restaurant is supposed to close at 6pm. The order was placed at 4:45pm. To add insult to injury, we are told our order isn't ready at all. We have to wait an additional 15 mins for two pupusas. I really want to support small businesses but this will be our last time visiting this establishment. read more

This place was recommended by a friend, so we were really looking forward to trying this local Salvadoran restaurant in Vallejo! The food: We ordered two combination meals. The first combination included 2 pupusas revueltas and the second combination included beans & cheese and cheese & chicken. Both meals came with beans and rice. We also ordered a side of plantanos and tamales elote. Overall, the food was delicious! My favorite was the revueltas. The fried plantains were such a treat! Love this local and family-owned restaurant! I've been here a few times already and the food has always been consistently amazing. I recommend ordering ahead of time through phone or online because it can sometimes take long since they make the pupusas fresh! My go to order variety is the revueltas, queso y jalapeno, and the queso y pollo pupusas. They're cheesy, flavorful, and such a comforting food especially knowing that they're homemade. The pupusas are also a very good size. I have a big appetite and 2.5-3 pupusas usually gets me full! The service was great. The food seemed very fresh. We ordered pupusas, tamales, soup, and desayuno típico. To drink we had horchata and it was blended to perfection. A couple reasons why the loss for the star were that the curtido for the pupusas was very poignant and sour not sure if it was sitting too long and soaked up the juices and also the sour cream was salty not sure if it was made in house or not but usually Salvadorian sour cream does not taste salty. The chicken soup was also a little bland but the veggies in it were cooked just right so they were not too hard not too soft but the taste of the broth was nothing special. They were not stingy on the amount of queso fresco, sour cream, chips and salsa they provided though and pricing was not bad. The plate sizes were very filling. Hey for a new mom & pop spot, it's really good. Just came here today because I wanted to try it out. I love Salvadoran food. I used to get it in the city and since I have been living in Los Angeles. So coming home to Vallejo and excited to hear there is one here, boom, I'm gonna get my fix. Lol The order I got was Pupusas (2 each) of plain cheese, cheese & jalapeño, and cheese & pork. I got one order of their pasteles (beef and veg), and tamarindo drink. I really wanted horchata but they had the mexican horchata. Their pupusas were fluffy and gooey and it was aoo good with curtido. Pasteles is also yummy and very crunchy. When available, Ill order their garnachas. read more

AMAZING FLAVOR. This restaurant is fantastic, real salvadoreñan food, this is the real thing. On top of the flavor being amazing, the inside of the popusas are nicely filled. I'm use to popusas being more masa (dough) than filling and this was prefect. The curtido and sauce was great too. You guys have to check them out, prices were prefect too. Since I don't get Salvadorean food very often I was excited to pay this place a visit and try their pupusas. I ordered jalapeño con queso and puerco con queso pupusas along with beans and rice. They call this a combo plate and charge $11 + tax. The establishment is clean and the decor is pleasant. They're not very quick at meal preparation and servings are pretty small. Particularly the rice and beans. Everything was very tasty, the cabbage and salsa served was really good, although I definitely could have used a little more salsa; well I could have used more beans and rice, too! In any case, I thoroughly enjoyed the pupusas. I'm not sure I'll be back based upon the portions served for the price charged. Maybe they could serve a bit more of the side dishes and add a drink; then the price would seem appropriate. read more

I've only eaten here once, but literally one bite of my order and I was inspired to write this review. I wish I took pics to add to this post but I couldn't stop taking bites of everything. TLDR: Hidden gem, order here. Every single item I ordered was delicious. They very clearly care about the quality of their food down to the ingredients, which is more than I can say for a lot of other spots. The plantains were sweet and well fried, the empanada was perfectly mashed - still slightly textured. The pasteles tasted so clean, so crispy, with a flavorful meat filling, while other places' can taste like they use multi-purpose, 5 day old oil. The curtido has that sharp mexican oregano flavor that you look for and tasted very fresh. Now the nuegado sugar cane sauce... maybe not my favorite thing personally, but the nuegados themselves were deliciously fried, and I would recommend anybody try something new. Regardless... I still finished them sauce and all, I'm not into eating something not as they are intended to be eaten. My only negative thing to say was that the salsa tasted closer to tomato sauce, although I'm not sure if that's how it's intended to be. If so, disregard my comment. But I do wish it was spicier. Some of the best Salvadoran food I've had! I grew up eating pupusas and these were just as good as the ones my family friends made. The flavor was perfect along with their delicious, crunchy curtido. It was my first time trying riguas and I haven't stopped thinking about them since. The cheese it came with was so soft and tasted so fresh, next time an extra order of that cheese is a must! The caldo de res was also delicious, full of a bunch of different veggies and juicy tender meat, and came with a small side of some really good rice & handmade tortillas! Prices were very reasonable and service was outstanding as well. Everything was great, 10/10! Riguas were definitely my favorite. I can't wait to go back again soon! read more

The place by my house was closed. Therefore, I did the typical search "pupsas near me" and ended up finding this place. I thought ,"oh what the heck, they have decent reviews and the pictures seem promising", plus I was really craving pupusas. So needless to say I gave it a go. I ordered the beans and cheese, the chicken and cheese, and the mixed pupusas. I highly recommend the chicken one. It was fantastic! And don't get me wrong all of them were great but the chicken was exceptional! I also ordered a tamal de elote and an horchata. Now, when I tell you the tamal brought me back to my childhood, I'm not kidding. It's small but savory and filling. The horchata was almost like how my mother makes it. This is my 3rd time ordering from this restaurant. I'm a fan of their beef and chicken tacos. I also love their Cheese & Chicken & Cheese Pupusas. The servings are very generous. I've had my orders both delivered and picked-up and the food quality is very consistent. The chips and salsa are also great. One time I went in to pick-up an order and the person on the register was super courteous and made sure my order was correct before leaving (I believe he might be the owner). Not only is the food amazing here, but the service is spectacular. I had placed a large order for dinner time in the morning and for some reason it hadnt gone through. It was for a birthday and so I called when I started to get nervous. Long story short, there had been a problem with the connection in the morning and the Grubhub order hadn't gone through and I had called when they were about to close. The owner William was extremely kind and understanding and reassured me that we will get the food on time and put the order together within twenty minutes after they were supposed to be closed. I greatly appreciate that level of service and the kindness I was treated with. Came here at the recommendation of my Salvadorean friend. Quite surprising that it's a hole in the wall type joint but they're the best pupusas I've had in Vallejo! I tried the revuelta and pollo pupusas. The revuelta was my favorite and two (plus the complimentary chips & salsa) were definitely enough to fill me up. No longer Baldos, this little restaurant has up'd the ante with Salvadoran food in the neighborhood. My first time I came in for the papusas. A dish I use as my starting point in gauging this sort of place. Instead I walked away with the chicken soup. First I thought it a little pricey at $12, but after having my fill, I changed my mind. Big bowl of broth and veggies. On the side is a deep fried,fresh and moist, piece of chicken that the customer is supposed to rip apart and put into the soup. Next to the chicken was a nice helping of really good Spanish rice. The rich broth was extreemly flavorful and had to be homemade. Vegetables cut thick. I ended up drinking the last of the broth from the bowl. Today I went back for the papusas. They were exceptional. Best in the area, I believe. I had pork and cheese. These were stuffed more, and the masa was perfect. I likes the cabbage was not to vinergery and had a great flavor, better than I've ever had. That include when I used to live in SF. Let me break it down. So far, very tasty. I wish the chicken had not been deep fried. The prices are not cheap, and not too expensive. Papusas are about $2 each. Every thing is really tasty and I'm looking forward to trying out other items on the menu The ambiance is a little rough, but I think as they get more profitable the owner will start smoothing out the rough edges. The papusas were real good. We had one of each of their 4 types - cheese, cheese w jalepeno​, pork & bean. The picked cabbage gave crunch to the mix and the salsa mildly spicy.
