Delicious, fresh, authentic. My husband was in the mood for pupusas. I was on my way home from work so looked up something on my way. It's a little hole in the wall place with only street parking. On Tennessee in the not so nice area. I was able to park right in front of the place, so didn't have to walk around too much. Walked in as someone else was walking out. It smells heavenly! No frills, old faded menus on the wall, 2 ladies behind the counter cooking. Not much room to wait. Pupusas are $4 each but they told me they were running a special 3 for $10 so I got 6 for $20. Carne asada with cheese. Yum! Was told 30 minutes and it started to get smoky in there, lol so then waited in my car. Please note, It is cash only, take out only. Before I went back in, the lady who took my order came out to me, (it was more like 10 min) with them all packed in a foil pan. And the pickled cabbage mix and sauce packed separately. It stayed hot and fresh. They are thick and full of meat and cheese. And so delicious! It was wayyyyy too much food. I could have ordered 3 for us. One pupusa filled me up ! Overall, this is a nice place to stop in and get a pupusa fix in Vallejo. The pupusas I received were greasier than what I'm used to, but nothing that a pat with a napkin can't fix. I enjoyed the salsa, def recommend getting some of that with your order. I found the curtido to be a little underwhelming compared to what I'm used to at my normal spots. They offer asada pupusas, which is something I'm not used to seeing. Out of the two that I ordered, that was the one I preferred. They're cash only, but I did see a sign indicating that they accept Venmo. Everything is fresh to order, something that I really appreciate. Called in for 10 pupusas, seen online listed @3$ per. When I called in they asked if I wanted a dozen for $40? lol, they didn't have their updated price listing online and now they're $4 per. Obviously I'm taking that deal anyways, I was happy I did. I got a dozen mixed with cheese and meat (I think it's pork?) and they made them fresh as I walked in a few minutes before their 20min time frame they told me. Maybe it's because I was getting over allergies messing up my smell and taste but the taste wasn't anything to brag about. However, the freshness in it was obvious and the cabbage was on point so I figured it was my allergies holding back me tasting the fullness of the flavor. Anyways, I'm definitely ordering another dozen this coming weekend to watch the fights and grub. Highly recommend if you are looking for some pupusas. My go to place for pupusas. I believe the only El Salvadorian restaurant in Vallejo. They have other Salvadorian dishes fried cassava, tamales etc but I mainly go for their pupusas. (That's a big thing) They're not greasy and they put the perfect amount of each ingredient. I cannot believe I lived in Vallejo for most of my life only to find this gem now. Apparently, they've been in business since the 90's. It's pretty small and definitely not the place to dine in - currently it is take-out only. It's a small place where there's really only room for 1-2 people to order and wait outside. I came in around 3pm and to my surprise, no one was here. This place deserves more recognition for the quality pupusas they serve. I waited five minutes tops for two fresh pork and cheese pupusas and I paired it with some salsa verde. It was a perfect lunch for me. The pupusas go for $3.50 each, and honestly felt like I spent the best $7 ever. I cannot wait to come back for more. Tip: BRING CASH. Best pupusas in town. It's hard to find a place that offers at least 1 (non salad) vegan option but this place had it. We ordered the bean and cheese, chicken and cheese, and vegan pupusas - they were all good! They cook them right there and then from scratch so expect a bit of a wait - that is totally worth it! The food here is out of this world, fantastic! Portions are generous and prices are reasonable! I ordered two pupusas and two tamales. Pork & Cheese and Jalapeño & Cheese. The cabbage and salsa served with the pupusas is excellent! This place is a little hole in the wall. The feel is really authentic when you're in the establishment. The decor is fun and makes you feel like you're truly south of the borders, yes multiple borders, like all the way down in South America. I was able to snap a couple pics of the place while I was waiting, since I ordered my food to go. When I got to my office I forgot all about taking any more pictures because the food looked so good. The reason for the 4-star rating instead of 5-stars is because they weren't quite opened at 12 noon, when their signage and Yelp posting says they open. This man has been making papusas for 30 years and he knows what he's doing. He's friendly and engaging and told me stories of people who regularly drive from the boonies to order dozens of his vegan papusas to freeze and air fry. And if you can dream up the combo, he'll make it for you. I soaked up his stories, then took my bag of papusa crack down the street to the Marina to eat in my car with my eyes closed. ALL were delicious: pupusa perfectly cooked with crispy bits, tamale in a green leaf had a fresh taste, I used the red sauce (also fresh) which ROCKED. Then the cabbage slaw: a better version of sauerkraut because it had carrots too. Finale: plantains were MAGICAL not greasy or too carmelized: perfectly ripened to a tartness. FUN FACT: If you look closely, you'll realize that this place is right across the boxing gym used in the Netflix series, "13 reasons why". But just a heads up, before coming here just know IT IS A CASH ONLY STORE. Be prepared, I came with $40 but only ended up spending $10. The inside looks a bit run down, the area where you dine in has displays that look like they haven't been cleaned in awhile, the color scheme seems like I walked into an episode of "I love Lucy" or "pleasantville", but I suppose the adds to the charm of it. The seat I sat by was located right next to the screen door that they leave locked. It was like a movie. The heat from the outdoor creeped into the seating area as the lady walked my order over. I imagined a low rider outside & the voices outside linger in. And in the background, I could hear the grill in the kitchen sizzling. The pupusas were so good. I had planned on eating 5 pupusas but forgot how filling the dish would be. I did not even have a drink to accompany the food. Thought I would try this place based on the reviews. So first it's cash only which can be a bit of an inconvenience if you're like me and typically don't keep cash on me. So a quick ATM run was necessary before heading that way. The location is not the best if you're familiar with the area( little sketchy/ busy main street) but not too bad. A hole in the wall but sometimes they are the ones with the best food. I ordered a plate with the 2 papusas( shrimp and jalapeño) and a separate vegan order. Super hot inside so waited outside for about 20 minutes and watched the liveliness of Vallejo which not surprising! The lady that took my order brought my food out to me and she was nice enough. I was craving pupusas and came across the reviews which led me to place an order here of 6 pupusas de queso con chicharrón and 2 revueltas. The curtido (cabbage) tasted really old and the pupusas of queso con chicharrón were the worst I've had in my life. Also, our food was bagged in old used bags from random restaurants such as Sushi Obsession. I don't know where or how those bags are stored, but I'm certain it's not sanitary.
