My dear friend's birthday was approaching, and her husband had booked a room at this winery for a group wine tasting. Before the tasting, we had a tour of the grounds, where we learned about the wine-making process, storage, and grape cultivation. The facility was exceptionally clean, which I was pleasantly surprised by. I don't think they would offer tours if the facilities weren't up to par. Back in the room with the long dining table, we were served charcuterie boards that complemented the wine. Although I'm more of a beer guy, I couldn't resist the allure of the wine. As one after the other wines improved, my wife and I decided to buy a bottle as a memento. We ended up getting the Rubicon, which we'll save for 25 years. We plan to return to get a more aged Rubicon so we can share this experience with our family. However, our host (the birthday girl) made a mistake and forgot to update the headcount. As a result, the bill was slightly higher than expected. If I were a member of the service staff, I would have politely informed them of the error and insisted on a refund. But the staff was incredibly accommodating and helped the host by removing the guests who couldn't make it. Their exceptional service made the experience even more memorable. read more

Tour guide gave wildly inaccurate information about wine and, surprisingly, space. He stated that Napa Valley iis responsible for over 90% of wine produced in CA (it's actually about 4%). Also, he went on and on about the Artemis moon mission which is a controversial subject that the majority of awake people know is nothing more than a laughable distraction. read more

Agree with all of the other reviewers. Only came here as part of the Uncorked St Helena wine passport. The only positive thing is that the views are stunning! It's next door to Auberge du Soleil, so if you want to enjoy views somewhat similar to those when dining on the Auberge patio, without the lofty price tag or experience, come here. Seated outdoors in a cabana as the temperature was rising... server bounced around to several other groups and would pop in with a new bottle. Whites were not cool enough, even the server agreed. It was too warm outside to really enjoy the reds. Not the experience we remember, and the tastings really should be indoors instead of on a hot concrete patio. Been coming here and members for over a decade. Wine is okay, we used to live sitting on a bench with a bottle of wine. Nice view, and a little cooler than the valley. Today was the last straw. We showed up at 3:30 pm, they had 3 tables sitting outside at the new tables and picnic area. Everything is off limits, you can't sit at any open tables. The younger brunette we spoke with told us we couldn't sit anywhere. We asked to speak with a manager, just asked to purchase a bottle and have a table, there were tons open. He confirmed we couldn't sit at a table, but did give us a glass or rise to stand and drink. We are canceling our membership, the wine has always been just okay and the view is what made this place. The current management seems to want to run this place into the ground. The restroom had no toilet paper and the garbage was overflowing. They do seem good and putting up signs everywhere to check in at the main desk, then denying service. Pro tip, hit up somewhere like Alpha Omega, very welcoming. read more

As someone who visits wineries often I thought I'd check this winery out. Unfortunately I did not feel like it was a Very Welcoming establishment. The sommelier/server was not giving my friend and I the attention that he seemed to be giving other parties. However that was not the initial problem. When we were served the wine it was being splattered into the cup and was not to the expectation of the service I thought the winery offered. The initial welcoming wine was poured from a bottle that barely had any wine and the sommelier/server didn't bother to open a new one and you could tell the difference in my friend and I's glass. Tasting middle of the road wines for $95 with one glass that you have to carry with you around the property and sip it while standing or on the go is the worst tasting experience one can get in Napa Valley. Our guide was 20 min late to start the tour. Then our group of 8 walked to the cave to find no tables available to sit down for tasting. Ended up in another back up tasting room where no wine was available. Another long wait for the guide who had to procure more wine. Not much was shared with us about the wine making process. Overall, we felt neglected and scammed. Yes, this winery has one of the best views of the valley. But it does not justify the price, and even more so does not deserve the time we wasted on coming there. We left the tour after wasting full hour to make two sips of wine. To managers credit, he acknowledged our complain and returned the money. Our next tasting was at Odette, where for same price we had an amazing sit-down tasting with wines 4 times more valuable then Rutherford Hill, cheese board included and our name printed on the tasting chart. The premises are absolutely beautiful. However, the staff was unable to accommodate our group of four, even though the parking lot was almost empty and there were only two other parties tasting. My partner and I did the "ATV" tour and tasting at Rutherford Hill Winery and bought two bottles of wine. It was a first time to this winery and we booked online via Tock. While the description centered the "ATV" (a literal four person vehicle that acts as a shuttle to the hillside grow) I'd say it didn't add much to the experience other than the view. While we didn't expect to drive the ATVs ourselves we didn't know much what to expect given the very brief description online. I wouldn't say it was a "bonus" I'd go back for. Overall, we were a bit underwhelmed. Lori (our guide) was knowledgeable and friendly. She was kind and navigated unexpected obstacles (such as a broken cork while tasting out in the field- she was able to save it) very well. However, as an end to end experience there were opportunities for improvement. It was a bit off from the beginning, we booked a tour at 11am in advance (our preferred time). My partner was actually contacted in advance and asked if we'd switch to the 2pm tour to join another couple. We are very flexible (having come from fine dining myself, I understand how this might be easier for the establishment and the staff). However, I don't think they reached out to the other guests to confirm their tasting. When we arrived, we were impacted by late guests and cut short by their schedule since they voiced they had scheduled their flight immediately after their tasting. While the winery did give us a little extra taste of a port at the end (upon our request) we felt they could have been a bit more accommodating at the end to compensate for the time we lost out in the vineyard m. It was a bit of a disappointment since we were looking to take our time, planned our time in advance, and we're convinced to adjust to their schedules. Having switched to a time later in the day it was very hot on the hillside, and we were not offered water while in the vineyard. If you have the opportunity to maintain the 11am, I'd recommend you take advantage. Their winery is know more for production of the typical style of the region, Boudreaux blends and varietals. While the wine was full bodied, there weren't any distinctive characteristics or narratives behind any of the bottle that captured our attention for membership. read more

Karen H was a great host during our tasting. We actually called last minute and was able to get a reservation for 6 when they opened our favorite wine which we purchased was the Sauvignon Blanc. The black label is gorgeous and it was crisp and refreshing. We were able to tour the cave which was so cool to be inside. They held our bottles until we finished having lunch down the way at Auberge du soleil. There's also ev charging on property which was nice and convenient. The views from the hill is pretty amazing. I was introduced to rutherford because my family friend owns a well known restaurant and rutherford is one of their vendors. Rutherford has been known for very favorable solid red wines. Jimmy and cam were our favorite server. They quit since management has changed and extremely disappointing. We've been membership for over 10 years but after this visit I really cant recommend them anymore. They let our kids sit on the floor for 25 minutes because they lost our reservations. They couldnt take any accountability. The clerk said " I dont even work on Wednesday" when we made our reservation. I wasnt making any accusations but simply just trying to sit and enjoy since we had guest in from London. They lose your reservation and only can offer one taste for one person while a party of 8 waited in the heat . They emphasized that we had kids so they couldnt help up. This actually use to a family winery. And, they have a new policy of one bottle for every two person. The legality of this crazy. To enforce someone to drink a half of bottle. I actually should've taken pictures because the $30 board was really like a five dollar waste of our time. we arrived 10 minutes early for the tasting. there was no one to greet us. When they finally did sign us in they said to have a seat and someone we get with us about 15 minutes later, someone came out with rose and our board. It was then 30 more minutes and someone came out with water about 10 minutes later, we decided to leave. not sure what is going on, but this would not be worth your time in my opinion. After being seated in the hallway of the cave (view deck closed for weather), it was 15 -20 minutes before I finally got up and walked around to find our server. Tasting was four pours of an ounce or two (like $10-$20 per ounce- $80 for four pours). Seems like new management is trying to nickel and dime by charging for additional two ounce pour of their nicer wine, which cheapens the experience. The main tasting staff was laid off this year, which made my last two tasting experiences/pickups this year being served by inexperienced new part time servers. At the end of this tasting, and as a member I had a pickup, but wasn't told where it was and couldn't find our server who disappeared and was busy in a different room again. Finally I went back to the main building to find my shipment, when the receptionist who was busy setting up an event yelled across the parking lot asking if we needed help. Finally she found my shipment. It's a bit disappointing as a long time member to see the property and product improve and to have the service and member experience drop off so much. It's too bad. Tourists will still love it and the stunning view but as local members it's disappointing. read more

This is a multi-layered review. I was really looking forward to buying one of my favorite wines (Episode) which I had written to them about in my reservation. However, I ended up being very disappointed by the customer service experience. - "Episode" wine from Rutherford Hill gets 5 stars from me. For the price, in my opinion, this is one of the best red blends in Napa. I love it. - Karley, the woman who served us gets 4 stars. What I loved about what she did was that she actually did a Google search on me and she knew who I was and what I did for a living. That was unbelievably impressive. What I wasn't pleased about was the tasting process was very slow. Slower than it should be. - Now let's get to the manager, Logan. He gets one star. If I could do ZERO stars, that's what I would give him. I come to Napa to buy wine that I really care about. They knew I cared about Episode because I put that in the reservation. Not only was that not included in the tasting, Logan would NOT allow me to taste my favorite wine until I agreed to buy a case first. In all my years of coming to Napa, I have never experienced something like this at any good winery. Frankly, I would have bought two cases if Logan hadn't managed like the customer "no-service" department. The difference of a great enterprise has to start with the management. My message to Rutherford Hill... as a businessman who has run a global businesses - I'd take a good long look at whether you want Logan representing your brand. read more

Got to try some special things that were open as well as our server was very accommodating. They are very busy so if you can snag an early morning reservation he will get the place to yourself. There's also nice picnic area across the parking lot but you have to get a reservation for that now. Ample parking and a nice drive through a winding wine country road. I'm not really sure how to start this review just because I'm incredibly grateful and appreciative of all the hard work and intentionality with the staff at Rutherford specifically Karen, Melissa and Carrie. My sister and her fiancée are members at Rutherford and I had a firsthand experience of their excellent customer service and exemplary attention to detail. Karen has been our wine educator, who is AMAZING and very well versed on wine. Not only is she detail oriented but a true light and emulates kindness and professionalism in all that she does. I totally have to rave about my sister's surprise proposal in the cave which was the epitome of romance and intimacy. Through the excellent assistance and support of Melissa and Karen, we transformed the cave dining room experience into a magical yet intimate space. I couldn't have done without the help of melissa, Karen and Carrie. Melissa is your go to person for details, innovation and has a wonderful attitude and it shows in her work. I mean seriously, these women are hard working, kind, and will do whatever it takes to get the job done! Even though my husband and I are met members (yet), we look forward to coming back to Rutherford because we experience a different t level of customer service and a family like love and appreciation.
