Updated. Service can be good or iffy -- all depends on which high-school student takes your order. Guy who runs it isn't particularly customer-friendly unless you're his bud. Food's OK -- the descriptions sound about 30% better than the food actually tastes. This place is more like Fuzzy's Tacos (but better) than Torchy's Tacos. Torchy's is definitely a step up from Rusty's. Couple negatives -- 1) they REALLY need to clean the napkin containers, especially out on the patio. They've always got dried food on top, clearly not just from that day either. Gross. And 2) this place is often absolutely packed w kids -- like entire soccer teams. They're usually under control, but excited kids + Rusty's acoustics tend towards the VERY LOUD. On the other hand, the patio is surprisingly peaceful and shady much of the time. The food: Queso -- bland, really just cheese and what I believe to be bits of onion, but good for what it is. Substantial chips, not the light crispy kind. Picadillo -- not really traditional picadillo despite the name, but still a good mostly American-style ground beef taco with small potato cubes. Try scooping it up with chips and queso! Fajitas -- missable. #12 -- vegetarian black bean taco. Simple and tasty. Rajas taco -- Tasty and not a typical menu item at these budget taco outfits. Also a nice option for vegans (hold the cheese) or vegetarians. The various pork tacos -- all pretty good. Generous meat portions. Breakfast tacos -- always available. Strangely tasteless except for the fajita beef one which is pretty good. #10 fried chicken -- meh. The trailer park at Torchy's is way better. This one's pretty ordinary to me. Fast and cheap. Loved their salsa, they're chips were a little stale, but the tacos were great. I had the brisket taco and fried fish taco; both were delish. All of the taco sauces were good too, my favorite is the Salsa Verde. read more

Rusty's is a regular stop after debate tournaments for my team, but ever since I became vegetarian the food options and quality have gone down. I've became accustomed to eating the breakfast tacos and chips as dinner. But on a higher note, the food I do eat is always delicious, and the meat tacos I used to have were superb. First time trying rusty tacos and was very very disappointed... the food was actually good! Which is why everything else was so upsetting. I ordered a bunch of different tacos for my coworkers and myself and not one of the tacos was wrapped in the foil that it was supposed to be.. we had to unwrap every single taco and guess what was what and who's was whos... ordered chips and salsa and the bag of chips wasn't even full!! Maybe half.. it's really sad that I don't want to go back because after 20 minutes of trying to figure out who's tacos were who's they were actually good... cold, but good. Glad to see Rusty Taco up in Plano. I like the service, cleanliness, openness, and overall execution of this location better than the Rusty Taco I tried (~Greenville & University). Minimal wait, fresh food, friendly staff. Good job at this location. One drawback might be the communal tables-long, picnic style tables, but we didnt go at a crowded time so it didnt affect us one way or another. read more

I was so happy when a Rusty Taco opened up in Plano. Great tacos and a relaxed environment. I like the Baja shrimp the most. I'm also a fan of their queso (yes, they have this...the lid of their cooler covers this part of the menu). Expect to wait about 10 minutes, but this depends on traffic. Best tacos I've ever had! Great brisket tacos.

I think this place is exactly what Plano - and particularly that location - needed. The food tastes fresh and well seasoned, the decor is bright and open, the atmosphere is welcoming. I came in right when I suppose the elementary and middle schools let out, and was pleasantly surprised to see a small pack of boys with backpacks, some parents with their kids, as well as a couple of adults on lunch breaks. Yeah I eat here all the time and have never had anything but good to say about this place. The franchise owner is there most of the times I've been there and customer service is just top notch. It's good, but I like other tacos better. I don't really get excited about going here and eating. The baja shrimp taco is probably my favorite, and I like it very much. It has fresh ingredients and I really liked the sauce on top. But I tried a breakfast taco and it was kind of lukewarm and the cheese on top wasn't melted. It was kind of salty. After living my whole life in SoCal where we know some Mexican food...had to live in No VA for 2 years (Mexican Food Void) and then was reassigned to Dallas...living in Plano near Coit & Legacy, we have been by Rusty Taco dozens of times...So yesterday after a couple errands the wife suggested we try the place...Cannot express how glad we are that we did...huge variety and the brisket tacos were great..Wife really enjoyed the shrimp tacos as well....One of the best things is that they're quick with the food and you can be in and out in 15-20 minutes...Perfect Place!!!! read more

I love Rusty's. To me for the price theres really no beating it. I don't think any of the tacos eclipse the $2.75 mark and the chips and salsa are $2. The manager/owner is an extremely friendly guy even running into him at the gym he has no problem talking about the restaurant and telling you its back story. Gotta love the little guy that makes great food. This was my first time at Rusty's and I was impressed! When we got there we were hoping to grab something fast to go but the place was packed. So my sister and I prepare to wait for a little while before getting our food. Imagine our surprise when just a few minutes after placing our order the tacos were ready! The staff were not only fast, but friendly. And most importantly the food was delicious! I had the Baja shrimp taco, fried chicken taco and bbq brisket taco. Loved them all! Tried Rusty's today for the first time. Had the #1, 2, and 5. I found the #1 and 5 bland. I liked the #2's pork. I thought it tasted great. What blew it for me was the pickled onion. Too much acidity. If that would have been left out it would have been great. Also, the food overall was not seasoned with salt. I give them a two because maybe it was a bad day for them. read more

Went in and there was a wait to order, but once I ordered, the owner gave me his card, asked me to come back soon and said my next purchase would be on him! I have been reviewing ttaco restaurants for several years while living in Los Angeles which has the most authentic taco restaurants on the planet. But I was pleasantly surprised when I visited rusty's tacos. They have the best barbecue tacos on the planet! Definitely to die for! Do yourself a favor and try them. Worth a trip to Texas to taste the best! But the best thing about rusty's is they have Erica, the nicest server I have ever met! He always asks how I'm doing and remembers my face every time I come in. Food is tasty and speedy, however they do not heat the corn tortillas enough, they get cold right away, as they need to let them cook longer. If the tortillas would be handmade the tacos would be superb. The salsas are great and the service is good. It is more Tex-mex but their chips and queso are great. When I go back, I'll just ask them to cook my tortillas longer, like them enough to go back. read more
