Such a disappointment on this visit, especially when I'm craving a good, fresh, hot taco. I ordered the grilled shrimp taco, fried fish taco and the potato, egg and cheese. Both of the seafood tacos were covered in purple cabbage, I mean A LOT! The grilled shrimp taco had a half of a lime, peel and everything, so unpleasant, then the shrimp itself, tiny and dry. How is that possible?! Then covered, drowned in some chipotle mayo sauce. On top of that, none of the tacos were hot, the breakfast taco was severely under seasoned and way too egg heavy. The measure of a good taco place is in its hot salsa/ sauce. The reason being mostly because you wouldn't go to a sauce shop to try tacos so you go to a taco shop to try sauces and salsas. That is my theory as restricted to this review and subject to change at my own whims. The thing about tacos is they have high saucibility. You pour the sauce in top but it also gets into the food due to the open top and you can see it as you eat it so you avoid the out of sight, out of mind effect. That's one of the reasons sauces works so well with them. So that tangential thought aside back to Rusty and his Tacos. Pretty good. There was a large variety to choose fromand I ended up with blackened shrimp (devine), fried chicken (mmm good) and brisket (not bad). They were all flavorfully enchanced by the excellent hot salsa which inspired this piece of writing. Yay! read more

Stopped by Rusty Taco after visiting the post office next door. I hadn't been there for about 5 years, when I lived and worked in Plano. Ordered two fish tacos, husband got the nachos and the food was delicious. The staff were extremely nice and courteous. I went back and ordered a guacamole and chips and got a nice size cup and a huge amount of chips for $4! Amazing! Chips were warm and delicious. And she said she would give me more chips if it wasn't enough?! I had enough to last me a week! They have self-serve fountain drinks and picnic table seating inside and out. read more

First off, I recommend this place. The food is pretty good. I did have one thing I considered going up and ordering one more, but that was on one of five tacos I tried. I started with the Texican and it was a spicy ground beef lettuce tomatoes and cheese, so your standard but nothing about this one was standard. This is a top notch taco and came in 2nd on the five. The Picadillo left a lot to be desired. It was bland and far from what I consider good. I am a native Floridian so I may be biased but I don't think so. This came in 4th. The Fried Chicken was frankly, just not up to the standards of their other tacos. There is nothing positive to say about this one. It struggled to even come in 5th out of five. If I may recommend, get a better piece of chicken to fry. This was dry and screamed of bagged chicken patty. The Rusty Taco is Achiote pork with pineapple, onion and cilantro. This one wasn't bad but not earth shattering either. I did like the sweetness of the pineapple up against the pork. Still, it was missing a wow for me. Came in 3rd. Now in 1st place and the one I almost went up to order another was the fried shrimp taco. I am a huge fan of fried fish and shrimp tacos. They have both but I went for shrimp today and boy am I glad I did. Compared to other places, they are in top contention on shrimp tacos. Loved the creamy Baja sauce, cabbage and cilantro. The shrimp were not over cooked which was a big win. Would I come back? Of course, but I would order the fried shrimp and the Texican only next time. I might try a new one as well. The churros were 1.75$ each but pretty huge, and I believe the nachos were around 6.50? Each. ( also giant.) Ya girl is cheap. So Rusty taco being packed full of flavor at a low cost was a huge win for me and my lunch alone. This gorgeous little brisket boat and caramel packed churro was less than $5. Their little boats (the size of a small paper "boat" like you see in the photo) are any taco made in a boat on lettuce instead of a taco and cost less than $3 each. Since my days in middle school when Rustys opened, it has established itself a Plano staple by dominating the street taco market. In this retrospect, I've had many trips through their doors for a great compromise between freshness and affordability, but it's difficult to say it has lasted the test of time. Quality over the past visits have been fluctuating- sometimes well seasoned, often times dry meat. I doubt my opinions at this point will alter the crown of Rustys in Plano, but I can only wish for more consistency going forward. read more

Overall this place was disappointing. We ordered 2 picadillo, 1 brisket, 1 egg/potato/cheese, 2 black bean tacos. The potato in the picadillo was very firm and not cooked all the way.
